The pho here comes in two sizes- large and small, but don't be fooled. The small is still a hefty serving and would actually considered a large in most places. You definitely get a good value for your money here-one bowl will probably fill you up for the rest of the day, and that's not even including what meats you get. In a time of widespread shrinkflation where it seems like everyone is raising prices and decreasing sizes, places like this are all the more important to support. Hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant in the San Jose area imo, singlehandedly beating all the hot viet spots in town looool. I have lived in Vietnam my whole life and just moved to San Jose for the past 2 years, no other place has such authentic and great taste like Pho Nguyen. This restaurant is so underrated for some reasons, when they're literally better than Pho Ha Noi or Pho 90 degree to me imo. My uncle's to-go pho spot in Milpitas, or so it seems. It's a small restaurant located in a very busy plaza with Paris Baguette​, L&L BBQ, ​and Lee's Sandwich. The couple times I've been here I ordered Pho Tai ($8.25/small). Now, I think Pho Nguyen is the only pho restaurant I have been to in Milpitas. So it was odd to me that you are given the choice between regular noodles or fresh noodles (+ $1.50). I always order the fresh ones so not sure if the difference is significant or not. The noodles are slightly thicker than normal pho noodles. The broth is tasty and portions are average. Decent, not bad. Service here is meh. People here just take your order and leave. My experience here wasn't memorable, but I'll probably be back with my uncle next time I'm in San Jose. Maybe I'll try something else on their menu... read more

The service was fast and friendly. The broth was hot and tasty and the noodles good. My main issue was the meat was chewy and had a lot of gristle, at least the flank cut did. This is the best Pho place to go to in the Bay Area. Trust me! It's super cheap and portion is so big! Be careful when choosing between a small and large. A small is pretty big already! I would order a large only if u have a super big appetite or sharing with someone! The soup is so flavorful and it's not like other places that adds so much MSG! Make sure u add ur lemon, basil, bean sprout, and couple slices of jalapeño to make ur soup taste on a complete different level! After u have a taste of this broth, you will know this is super authentic and no other places could ever compare! A small is $10 and a large is $11! My go to is always #1 house special! If I'm not feeling soup, then I go with #32 dry with yellow noodle! With #32 dry, they will give you a side of small soup! If you order #32 dry make sure u add hoisin sauce, Sriracha, fish oil, and vinegar to the bowl and mix well to get that amazing flavor! Can't really tell u the amount I use but play around and adjust to your liking! Maybe I'll try to measure it the next time I go and edit my review at another time! Not only is their pho good but their rice places, egg rolls and drinks esp Thai tea ( I usually order without the boba) are also amazing! For the rice places, try to get their red rice/tomato rice instead of plain white rice. It is so good and flavorful! The bun bo hue is pretty flavorful. It tastes great after I add the sate chili sauce. They are generous with their portions; there was a lot of noodle, cha, and beef in the BBH. However, I did notice there was no pork hock. They also do not offer banana flower with their vegetables. Not all places offer both of these in their BBH, so it's not as if it's a rare phenomenon. Just good to note if these are things you really want in your BBH. And again, they were generous with everything else. Service was good. Came in and was immediately seated. Probably my favorite pho place that's not in San Jose. The broth is rich, but not too oily, and they don't skimp on the meat. They also let you sub out certain meats for something else. A lot of places won't let you do that without an additional charge. Oxtail is so tender here! Delicious!! I used to like this place until today. We've been going to this place since it was introduced to us by my coworker back in 2008. I brought many customers here from my work. Just for a simple napkins, they have to throw that away. I've asked nicely for a napkins, they didn't give. I asked again, still no napkins. I asked nicely how much for the napkins with a thought they charge for extra napkins and am willing to pay because I use a lot of napkins. But, the lady serving us gave me an attitude, with strong tone and telling me just ask and she'll give it to me. Maybe, just a pandemic thing, but at least be nice. I do appreciate them being open despite of the pandemic. I just told her don't be mad, I'm just asking. We paid and still gave them a tip. I talked to the manager in cashier with a thought of maybe talking to his staff. Instead, I got the attitude too saying they don't care. After a night of heavy drinking, pho is the way to go. Prior to coming here, I've never heard of Pho Nguyen, but my two girlfriends insisted on coming here (farther from home than our usual spots).The drive felt super long since I was starving and when we finally got there (around 1pm on Sunday), there was a line to get seated! I guess that's how you know a place is good, yeah? Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long. After about 10 minutes, we were seated. However, our food took forever to come out. It took 15+ minutes! That's typical for any other restaurant, but ridiculously long for pho. I've never had to wait so long for pho before... but maybe that was the hangry me talking. Now on to the food... First we started off with an order of spring rolls. It comes with 4. They don't skimp out on peanut sauce! They give 1 per spring roll, so you get 4. Not the best spring rolls I've ever had, but they'll do. For my entree, I ordered bun rieu. It was a bit too salty and not as satisfying as I expected it to be, so I kinda wish I had ordered regular beef noodle soup. But I got to try my friend's bun bo hue and my boyfriend's beef noodle soup. Both were delicious and the fresh noodles ($.50 extra) were awesome. For dessert, we got green waffles! Ugh I freaking love green waffles. They stop serving them around 2pm. The whole meal was pretty pricey. Although, their portions are humongous. I've never had leftover pho to take home before. This is probably a great thing for people with large appetites but not so great for people like me with little stomachs, because I would much rather have the option to spend less for a smaller portion. I've been stuck working in the Alviso/Milpitas area for a while now, and not being all that familiar with the area I've been asking for people's recommendations. I just happened to be working with my Phô-Sensei (who also happens to be a Milpitian) when I asked him the ubiquitous, "What's for lunch?" He suggested Phô Nguyen (PN) because that's his family's "go-to" spot for Phô in Milpitas, and after three days of bitterly cold temperatures something warm and soothing sounded great. Plus, the opportunity to try one of my Sensei's go-to spots was too good to pass up. I ordered my standard (and one not-so standard item) order when I go to Phô: Large Phô Dac Biêt (Combo), Spring Rolls and Pandan Waffle. Here is my analysis: Pandan Waffle- This is an off-the-menu item that I learned about while perusing the pics here on Yelp (I like to study before I eat!) This was my first time trying a Pandan Waffle and I enjoyed it. Pandan is a tropical plant -that has an aroma similar to jasmine rice- that's mixed in a waffle batter that also includes coconut milk. So it's a lightly-sweetened, coconuty, green waffle is the best way to describe it. Think of it as Vietnamese Dessert. 4* Spring Rolls- Pretty average Spring Rolls with above-standard peanut dipping sauce. The best thing about them was their freshness. 3.5* Phô: Broth- The broth tasted pretty average nothing too special but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little hot sauce, chili-garlic and Hoisin sauce. 3* Noodles- For 50¢ extra you can upgrade to the fresh noodles and I must say it's worth every penny. They tasted great; had a nice chewy texture; and they're very generous with the amount they give you. Perfection. 5* Meat- PN gives you a profuse amount of meat in your Phô; we surmised it's almost a 1:1 ratio of meat to noodles. It was all very fresh and delicious, but my one complaint is they were pretty stingy with my favorite: the tendon. Brisket and tripe lovers would be very happy, though. 4* Condiments- Standard array of condiments (e.g., Hoisin, Siracha, Chile-Garlic, etc.) to spice up your soup and they provide you with a harvest of fresh veggies, too. 4* Service & Ambiance- PN is a pretty small location that fills up fast at lunchtime; I highly advise you get here early. The service was amongst the best I've gotten at a Phô restaraunt (which really isn't saying much) and they weren't trying to give us the heave-ho when the place started filling up (one of my pet peeves) 3.5* PN is a very good little Phô restaraunt on the south side of Milpitas. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for some authentic Phô at reasonable prices. It's not quite the best Phô I've ever had but it has a lot going for it and you've gotta love a place with off-the-menu items. read more

I wanted to try a different spot for pho after months away from San Jose. Based on the "Pho Quest" rankings of the prolific pho-o-phile Randy F., I chose this place. Pho Nguyen is a Milpitas restaurant that's not too far off from the Highway 880 exit. It was pretty busy at lunch time on Sunday, notable with boisterously loud Vietnamese clientele, but we were able to be seated immediately after we found parking toward the Goodwill store side of the plaza. I went for the large #13 Pho Chin Nam Gau Gan Sach ($9.25) with fresh noodles (+$0.50). First, they brought out the plate of greens (Thai basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño, lime). The bowl of pho followed shortly after, which confirms that (like all good pho shops) they indeed have piping hot broth ready to serve in the back. The broth is a little lighter than what I typically hope for, but it was still enjoyable, perhaps because it was a touch sweet. I could sip it through a straw. The broad, flat noodles are as good and soft as I expected. The meats were plentiful, but some (well done steak, brisket) were somewhat less flavorful than others (fatty brisket, tendon). I've found myself less than fully impressed these days with NorCal pho in general, but Pho Nguyen compares fairly well to other beef noodle soups that I've tried recently in San Jose. It's a little far, but I'll definitely consider adding it to my rotation. read more

Lately its been Cold and Chilly at night . I was feeling Chilled to the Bone on the Tarmack so I jumped into my New Work Whip aka Ken-worth and rolled to Pho Nguyen bumping some Tupac . I was able to park my Whip in the lot. I rolled in and grabbed lucky table 7 . A Waiter brought me a menu and hot tea . I went with a small Bowl of Pho Number 13 on the Menu . I was brought my Pho 10 minutes later . It had plenty of Noodles ,Tripe , Tendons , Thin Cut Flank Steak and Beef Balls. I added the Bean Sprouts , Mint Leaves and Sirachi and Plum sauce.
