Just visited Song Hai an hour ago aat around 11:30 AM for the first time. We had to wait for 10m to get in. We oreder two small bowls of Pho Gà and a dish of chicken organs. The prices are reasonable. It took them longer than normal to serve - 15 minutes. Pho gà soup hot but was quite diluted, no chicken aroma or taste. Nước mắm & chicken organs was delicious. I love the pho ga here. It has to be the best in terms of the quality of the broth which is a balanced blend of savory and chicken flavor. No MSG in the broth which is a huge plus as you won't have to worry about drowning yourself with water afterwards and running to the bathroom multiple times to per! The small portion of pho is already enough food for me. The chicken is well cooked-tender and juicy. Their ginger fish sauce is also a good compliment to the chicken. Don't forget to order a side of chicken gizzards to accompany your dish! I also tried their beef pho here as well and it is pretty decent. But they are more known for their pho ga. I came here at 10am on a Saturday with a party of 5 and we already had to wait 30mins to be seated. This is a busy place if you plan to go for weekend brunch. I've been going to Pho Song Hai since they were located on Westminster Boulevard. The chicken pho and chicken rice are good here. I'd probably give them a higher score but they never have giblets (liver and gizzards) available to order no matter if it is at the beginning, middle or end of their business day. And if you're lucky that they do have them when you visit, you have to order it extra as a separate side order plate. Some times they have it, but don't want to sell it to you unless you're a larger table. Most other Vietnamese restaurants that serve chicken pho it can be added as part of the entree. Preferring dark leg meat, their serving size of of chicken is meager and barely enough, so I usually go with white meat breast. read more

I went here for Pho Dui Ga yesterday. I was told I had to wait for 20 minutes for the chicken legs noodle which I was fine with. I waited for 30 minutes and they started bringing out chicken plates for customers that came after me. I asked where our orders were and were told they were coming. We waited again and finally they brought out our chicken plates. We waited again for pho. Once again, they bring out one bowl at a time for other customers who cam after us. We finally got fed up and paid for our drink and left. The service was so bad. This was not the only time we had experienced such a mediocre services at this place; they simply did not know how to run the business or know which customer came in which order. At the same time I was waiting, at least 10 other customers were also waiting. Some customers were upset because of a long wait and the slow and poor services. The workers walked straight without making eye contact with any customers because everyone was unhappy. They brought out the food for the customers who complained louder and not necessarily who ordered first. I do not recommend this place if you expect some decent services. After all we are paying a premium price for a bowl of pho we would expect a minimum courtesy and this place did not have it. read more

I came into this restaurant very optimistic until I had to wait 2 hrs for our food. The wait time was attrocious and being told misinformation regarding the availability of their food made the experience that much worse. Every time I am back in sourthern California, this is my first Pho place to hit up. I'm a lover of beef pho, so I tend to want to get here in time for the filet mignon pho dac biet. I had that the first time I dined here and it blew my mind. The line, however, is always long and the wait has been at least an hr for me. But I would say for the taste and cost of the food, it is worth it. The most recent time I had dined here, just a bit after 12pm, we waited for about an hour. I was so excited to finally order my pho dac biet filet mignon, but they had ran out of the beef pho already. :( :(. But it was ok, since they are pretty much mainly known for their pho ga (with the ga served on the side). I think this place is definitely better quality than other local pho place. Cash only. At 8am, there is already a line of people awaiting for tables. Here's the trick, call and they will nicely put your name on the waiting list. They are known for their chicken and beef pho. I love both. I prefer the leg part of the chicken, which is usually sold out. The chicken pho is good but I rather eat the thin vermicelli version. I feel as though the broth is more flavorful. As for the beef pho, the cut of the tendons, beef, everything is generous. It's not like the other places where the meat is so thin, it's falling off or you can barely have a feel for it. I recommend the fresh pho noodles. The line and wait is worth it. This place is always crowded, I have attempted on many occasions but always ended up leaving cus of the long wait. And now i finally understand why there's always a crowd there. Pho Song Hai is known for chicken pho. The broth is made from chicken and its a totally different taste from broth made from beef bones. For a bowl of chicken pho, you get a plate of chicken (can be breast, thigh or drumstick) and ginger fish sauce. I believe it is the ginger fish sauce that makes Pho Song Hai so popular. This place was recommended to me by my 70-year-old aunt who used to be a chef at a Vietnamese restaurant. Thus, I believe that her assessment of this place is very valid. You should know that most Vietnamese places are not known for their service. It's actually frowned upon to tip if you go to a restaurant in Vietnam. Thus, you should have zero expectations for good service when you arrive. The server's only responsibility is to take your order and deliver your food. If you need anything else, you need to ask because they're not going to baby you and come back frequently to ask if you're doing okay. I thought I knew what good Pho Ga was. I was so wrong. This place has really fresh broth, great fish sauce, and fresh chicken. They serve the chicken on a separate platter for those who do not want the chicken to be in their broth. The broth is some of the freshest I've ever had...it's a perfect buttery color. It's not dark like those other broths that use lots of MSG. My aunt and I were both pleased with the food quality , and the prices are unbeatable. $6 for a bowl of Pho Ga! Beware of the long wait though! The noodles and chicken come separately, which I've never seen before, but they arrived at the same time (unlike other reviews I've read). I think dark meat tends to be more popular here and they tend to run out on busy days. But white meat, which I prefer in my pho anyways, is plentiful. Often, breast meat tends to be dry and flavorless. However at Song Hai it is tender, juicy and rich in flavor. So bomb! The dipping sauce for the Hai Nam chicken is soooooo flavorful! In terms of taste, it's like a sweet marriage between a green juice and soft, pureed mung bean. It was refreshingly delicious, I went back to get it again later that week (craving it right now). They're known for their chicken pho but I ordered the combo beef pho. To anyone that is particular about noodles, the chicken pho comes with wide noodles while the beef pho has thinner noodles. The small serving was quite a lot. I wasn't expecting them to be so generous with their meat. Word on the street is that they don't add MSG. I think it's not as much but close to being MSG free. The broth was flavorful, authentic, and reminiscent of mother's cooking. You can tell when it has that added "flavor". Rarely do I ever go eat pho because it just doesn't make sense when I can get it at home. Ain't nobody make it like momma. However, it does take hours to make. Honestly, the worst Pho I have ever tried in my entire life. I'm not even exaggerating. I ordered a small Pho Tai and it was really bland. No taste whatsoever even after putting in hoisin sauce and lime. The meat was really off. Nicely cut, but the meat was way too soft to eat. Also, their hainan chicken and rice + house ginger sauce is popular here. I hate dipping and trying to eat pho at the same time. They also make delicious chicken rice or com ga. They boil fresh chicken and chicken are perfectly tender and juicy. The pho ga comes either small or large size, with fresh wider pho noodles and the chicken (white or dark meat) on the side. Same thing with the com ga; you can specify white or dark meat. Pho ga is really very good here. Very tasty chicken cooked just right. Some reviewers think the chicken is tough but I think it's the nature of free range chicken. The broth was flavorful, very clean and honest. The rice noodle was also excellent. My wife and I missed Pho Bolsa but have now found a worthy substitute here. The ginger dipping sauce was just right. Be forewarned, the chopped thai chili is quite hot (way hotter than Sriracha which was also available). Will try Com ga Hai Nam next time.
