Decided to drop by and try this place out! I loved how spacious it was inside, and the layout of the restaurant is very interesting. It's simplistic and very homey. It's on the side of the road with a small parking lot so it can be easy to miss if you're driving there for the first time. The staff are friendly and the service was fast, i got all of my food within 15 minutes or so of waiting. The portions of the food are OK for the pricing, it's actually cheaper than most places however there isn't as much meat in the bun bo hue. Pictured below are actually Large sized bowls. The spring rolls also have a mixed sauce of maybe sriracha mayo and peanut sauce. The bun bo hue wasn't really spicy but had a lot of chili oil which could definitely stir up some coughs here and there. There wasn't much meat at all for the bun bo hue, but i would recommend trying their other dishes nonetheless. Overall the experience was good, it's a great cheap place to drop by for food and the workers are hard working and very welcoming. Please drop by and try this place if you have the chance :)!

Had to get a Vietnamese food fix and found this place down the road a bit. It has it's own parking lot, and then need to walk along the fence to get to the front door. We ordered Bun with pork and BBQ shrimp, egg rolls, BBQ sandwiches and fresh rolls. Everything was fresh and crisp. The BBQ pork had a nice sweetness from the marinade and was grilled perfectly. It was everything it needed to be to be a satisfying meal. It would have been nice to have more vegetables in the BUN, but all the right flavors were there, so no complaints.

We were looking for fresh spring rolls.and Google sent me here. Well it was amazing. Not only do they have fresh shrimp spring rolls they also offer pork spring rolls??? What?? We were very pleased the owner was super excited to tell us about the pork rolls. Grilled pork chops sliced in the roll. Delicious I ordered a plate which came with a fried egg. It was great. My wife had a pho soup which she doesn't normally order unless she can get thin noodles and the owner said no problem. Beef pho and it was tasty and the broth was flavorful.definitely a return to place.

This restaurant has been here for many many years, I ate here often while I was living on Mcbryde Ave, Richmond which is one block away. I am not sure if the owner is still the same this time returning to eat after so many years. We ordered the bun Bo hue, my all time favorite item and this place makes the best bun Bo hue. Ordered the bun rieu, the taste is not what I like anymore. It has too much ketchup taste rather than the crab taste. It is too sweet with lots of ketchup but Portion is big though. One thing I was surprised is that they have fried pork intestines, which was my husband's favorite item. Overall, a great neighborhood Vietnamese family owned restaurant worth trying. Mapbe just skip the bun rieu. Haha

San Pablo sales tax is only 9.50% This restaurant charges 10.25% + $2.00 for TOGO + $2.15 for Merchant Fee = rip off!!!

We used to frequent this place when we lived in the area over 15 years ago. It was our go-to spot for authentic Vietnamese food. So this was the first place we thought of when we were in the area looking for something to eat. The look of the place hasn't changed much since we were last here. We were immediately seated and served water before taking our order. We had the beef stew noodle soup, pho and beef chow fun. We also ordered a peach shake, avocado shake and a 3 color bean drink. Our food came very quickly so we dove right in. The beef in the beef stew soup was not as tender or flavorful as we are used to. The pho and beef chow fun were not bad but not great either. One thing that was disappointing is that they didn't have the plum/hoisin sauce. They had a watery soy sauce type sauce. As for the drinks, you can't expect much when it comes to shakes. Just like most Vietnamese restaurants, you can expect a powder to be used. The peach one was extremely sweet, even for my daughter's taste and she likes sweets. The avocado shake was probably the best of the 3 drinks but nothing memorable. Now onto the 3 color bean drink. Many times you will not even find this on the menu unless you go to an authentic Vietnamese place, so it is the first thing I look for on a menu. It is made with coconut milk, pandan jelly, mung bean and sweet red beans with ice. When I got my drink there was no ice which should have been my first sign. It looked like it had more beans than red beans but I like beans so I wasn't too concerned. But as I started to stir the drink I began to get very worried. At the top were strings of green and brown pieces that looked like seaweed and tasted like it. Then, as I start to stir the beans, I see garbanzo beans which I thought was weird. But I decided to try a bite anyway. To my surprise the coconut milk tasted salty. I thought it was my imagination but my daughter said the same thing. I decided I would bring it home and transfer the pieces I wanted into another cup of coconut milk. To my surprise, when I dumped it out I found a slew of random beans and even nuts. I found whole cashews in the drink. Like crunchy, usually salted cashews which explained the saltiness. Now that I think of it, what if someone had a food allergy to nuts and ate this because usually this drink does not have any nuts. I tried to rinse out the beans and remove the saltiness but the drink could not be saved. The sad part is that this is probably the first place I tried this drink at. And I know it wasn't like this or I would have never ordered it after. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

Been coming here since I was a freshman in high school, and their food never fails to disappoint me. I've tried a lot of food on their menu so I know their food is good and yummy! Today I had a BBH, and it was so good. I haven't tried a lot of BBHs but I really liked how spicy and fragrant it was. I've only dined in like twice since COVID has been getting a bit better over here, but dine in options are available. Every customer mutually understands to socially distance if they're dining in which is great.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what's happening here, but the pho is just not good. I was driving down San Pablo Avenue after taking a long walk near the reservoir and thought a hearty bowl of pho might provide a nice ending before heading home. It looked like a huge place from the outside, and there was a lengthy walkway fenced away from the sidewalk. Not sure why but it meant more steps on my FitBit, always a good thing. There are at least two dining rooms of which they were using only the front room for walk-in diners like me. I first went for an appetizer, the $5.95 Shrimp Spring Rolls, which frankly didn't taste that fresh with the rice paper particularly chewy and the peanut sauce over sweetened (photo: http://bit.ly/3aX1zaR). I then decided to go with the $10.95 Grilled Chicken with Chicken Noodle Soup (photo: http://bit.ly/2UkrfYv). The chicken on the plate was paltry, but at least it was prepared five-spice-style and grilled nicely. The pho, however, was quite disappointing with the broth way too salty. Unfortunately I'll need to scratch this pho house off my list. I hardly give 1 stars and this is such a disappointment, been coming here for years ever since I was young but the (lady) owner which you saw on other comments is rude AF. She gives you an eye roll (-_- ) when you ask about the menu and literally wants you to order like you've been here before. Costumer service used to be good but I don't know what made her treat her costumers so bad. I hope she can clean her act up because the rest of her employees are nice. Food is good but if you want a better costumer service look elsewhere and spend your money where you actually can leave a restaurant happy & full.

I have stopped by this Vietnamese restaurant and for good I always feel great, huge Windows so you are not bored when you are eating, the food that they sell is great and a lot of options. You want to try smoothies as well. Recommended. read more

I like that this place is open later than most Vietnamese restaurants which is convenient. The lady who owns the place is Usually in there during business hours and is very nice. Food is brought out pretty fast and is always good. I personally like how they cook their rice plates and that they give a small bowl of broth with it. Parking can be a bit of a hassle because it's on a busy street and next to a busy gas station. read more

I come here pretty often for the Bon Rieu. And we have tried different things and they were good. So I decided to use them for catering a Teachers luncheon for our elementary school. I stressed to the lady that the sandwiches needed to be cut in half and NO Jalapenos! I know she was busy dealing with another customer issue but she wrote everything up in Vietnamese so I couldn't review what she wrote. Today we sent a dad to pick up and asked him to check on my special requests. Everything cut in half, no jalapenos, clearly id chicken from pork. (A few people as a result of the jalapenos, could not eat the sandwiches. Even removing it didn't help as they didn't remove the seeds) The lady apparently was super rude and didn't answer any of his questions. He was so disgusted by his treatment that he left after getting the order. I called after I got the sandwiches to figure out which is chicken, which is pork as some people don't eat pork! The lady could not tell me and hung up on me. Sandwiches were not cut and two white meats were hard to separate. Most places use different rubber band colors to differentiate the meats. Not them! They don't understand customer needs. Please do yourself a favor and do not use this place for catering! Don't pay for them to treat you badly when you think you are doing them a favor of advertising their food and restaurant. Also, I already stated 15 minutes earlier than I needed to, for food pick up. They were an additional 15 minutes later. I had to scramble to cut up the sandwiches, identify which meat is which. Making us late for our event, which was limited timewise due to rigid school bell schedule! Need less to say, we will not use them again! read more

I judge a pho place by how they do their bun bo hue and theirs definitely pass! The broth was delicious and it didn't leave me with the parch feeling afterwards like places that are heavy on msg. My bf is on a health kick right now (I know, I know.. why would anyone not order beef pho at a beef pho place since it's all about that beef bone broth!). Anyways, he ordered a veggie tofu pho and it came out piping hot with a mountain of vegetables! it even looked good to me as I was on the other end eating my coagulated pigs blood and stuffing beef and noodles in my mouth. Will def go back again (until I find that cockcroach, lmao, that I've read from other reviews)! read more

This place deserves a zero star rating. I recently moved here to Richmond last April and have made this my pho place because it was recommended. However the first few times I came the main lady at the front has been extremely rude and the pho tasted old. This last time I went and decided not to return again was because I arrived alone and was seated by someone with a menu an water. 20min go by and she had not come back to take my order. A couple comes in and she goes to them right away and takes their order, I stood up and asked her why she has had me waiting. She states she forgot and couldn't see me, when she sat me down. She then just walks away from me without just taking my order right then and their. It was literally just me and I only wanted a bowl of seafood pho, that's it. I decided to just leave at that point because now it has been 30min since I sat down and everyone is being taken care of except me so I walk out. DO NOT GO HERE!!! This owner is terrible at her job. read more

Oh man, I really don't want to do this but I feel like I have to. Went last night w my man for the first time because it's the closest pho to his new place. Started off so great, casual/comfortable dining area, and our server (seemed like an owner or manager) was so charming and nice, I ordered then he helped my man customize a pho dish to his liking. We get our food and dig in, everything tasted good, and the ingredients all seemed of good quality. As we're eating ma man sees a roach crawl across our table, big bummer but I'm pretty forgiving and I know these things happen sometimes, so we brushed it of and continued eating. Deal breaker was when we see another roach crawl out of our pile of basil/cilantro/sprout plate! 2 roaches : 1 table , those are not good odds! I know if you are seeing critters like that out in the open there are actually 1,000 of them you can't see. This place needs to be emptied, deep cleaned, treated for bugs, and reopened, that's their only hope. Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news! I really wanted to become a regular :( read more

I PHO-ING LOVEEE THIS PLACE! Like other yelpers said, it looks crappy on the outside, but it's the inside that matters! And... they have their own parking lot, that's freaking awesome for people who can't park parallel like ME! This place set the standard for pho broth. Their broth is the bomb! Not greasy, not msg-sy, sweet healing broth. This place is the hangover clinic. The bf and I are hooked on their Pho with beef on the side. Simple. Pure deliciousness. Sometimes we add on the spring roll. Fresh. Super tasty peanut sauce (YEP YOU HEARD IT RIGHT, PEANUT SAUCE!) I have tried so many Pho house lately just to see if they can top Pho Hoa Thai. My finding? NONE! GO NOW! read more

Bun bo hue was bland. I added half the jar of chili oil and requested for fish sauce and used lime to make it taste slightly more edible. I would not come back here for anything. Save your appetite and money! The fresh springroll was decent but if you are looking for good Vietnamese food go somewhere else. read more

the pho is delicious.. BUT OMG THAT DOESNT MATTER WHEN THE PLACE IS DISGUSTING. I came here with my coworker one day after work. we were craving pho and were so excited to have the amazing, tasty pho offered here...and then it happened. I'm sitting at the table with my steamy bowl of pho when I noticed a line of ants crawling on the wall near my coworker. I let it go because, hey, it's raining and ants happen. BUT, then 5 minutes later I see a ROACH on the wall next to me. I pretended not to see it because, I don't know, I was feeling nice that day.. BUT THEN....our waiter came to check on us... he saw ANOTHER roach on the wall, killed it with his THUMB, and walked away.... my coworker and I then decided to leave. Then we see this same thumb killer waiter bringing out another table's soup.. and I KNOW he didn't have time to wash his hands in that 10 seconds... never going there again. read more

I had the biggest plate of Beef Pho for $6.95 EVER!!! They even have a real tasty and spicy chile. Damn Gina..why didn't I ever think of coming to eat here? My dad lives like two blocks away!!! It was tasty and I instantly fell into a food coma. I was dumped at my father's door step full and contented and making a mental note to return there again as I waddled into the house and rolled myself onto the couch. I lay on the couch and began to watch tv...not even Harry Potter 4 could keep me awake. I passed out immediately and dreamt of basil leaves , long tender noodles and strips of beef dancing in a circle in a flowery field. zzzzzzzzz.................. read more

This is my new to go to spot when ever I'm craving Pho, the service is great they have always been very friendly and you get your food in less than 10 min how awesome is that!!! there noodles are a little on the softer side than I like but there broth is delicious. If your in the Richmond area and your in the mood for some Pho you should definitely check this place out =] read more

RED BRICK!!!! This is what we call this place. It is absolutely amazing! I think me and my co-workers try to hit this place up at least once a week, sometimes more. When I come I dont even get the Pho, spiiiiiiishhhhhhhhhhh; that's for weenies. I'm all about the chicken/pork plate with the egg roll please! Mmmmm, mmmmm, good; and I ain't talking Campbell's. Bottom line folks; the food is good, it's quick, and inexpensive. Honestly the best egg rolls I've ever eaten, and the grilled chicken and pork are on point. Also, the owner there is super nice. She always treats us well. So there's absolutely no reason not to get some of the good stuff! read more

Came here for the first time for some pho - place was pretty quiet. The guy who took our order didn't write anything down - decided to smugly commit it all to memory. OK. Except that he completely forgot to bring one of our orders later. No one came to check on us. We had to go find someone to let them know one of us had no food. Sure, that's forgivable. Just your basic sloppy service - maybe 2-3 star worthy. But the fried cockroach in our appetizer, that's another story. When we pointed it out, he didn't seem very concerned or apologetic. He asked if we wanted the dish replaced (no, thanks). Didn't really make any gesture to make up for it; eventually agreed to take the item off our bill. No apologies or concern, just business as usual. I suppose this could happen anywhere: a forgetful server, a bug in the food, but a lukewarm response to both problems is not as forgivable. With an average of 4 out of 5 stars, we really expected much much better. One star. And that's generous. read more

Lychee shake was disgustingly sweet, I ordered Pho for me and my GF. Found a piece of green glossy flank and had to throw the whole thing way. The broth tasted like Swanson's beef broth, and when I asked the person in the front if the broth was made with beef bone, it felt like she was lying when she said yes. All in all I would not suggest going here, it's a shame because I like supporting local businesses, but not when they try to cut corners and put people's lives in danger of food poisoning. read more

Best Pho in town!!! Hands down. Love coming here when it's cold. It's real food for the soul. The lady that answers the phone could be nicer.The last time I called in a order. She was real short and kinda rude. She hung up on me as I finished placing my order. Didn't ask my name or phone #. Let alone tell me in how long to pick up. But I wont let her steer me away from this gem. I prefer to dine in. The takeout just isn't the same. Pho- Sure my spot! read more

Craving Pho on a Sunday morning, we decided to brunch over at the Pho Hoa Thai place. It was crowded and steamy, warm on that rainy day. I ordered pho that had a variety of meats and my guy ordered sugar cane rice. We both had hot tea. The food was very good and the service was excellent. At one time, our waiter asked if I wanted more "soup" for the bowl. The meat was great and the broth was very good. My guy's sugar cane shrimp were cooked shrimp balls that came with a cold vermicelli. On the side were lettuce, sliced sugar cane, peppers and a dipping sauce. He finished the enormous portion. While the restaurant itself is a little seedy, the management was cheerful and upbeat, as were all the waitstaff. I enjoyed the experience and will go again... soon! read more

Rude customer service if you ask for veggies she won't give any to you she hung up on my mom many times while trying to straighten her order so my mom called back and she said she should go to the mental hospital just cause she was complaining and saying that she won't tell her friends to come to her restaurant anymore! And then she called my mom a hooker and a hoe what kinda person are you seriously she needs some help. read more

Best Pho broth ever.. I used to come here back in the days and remembered it was sooo good .. I couldn't remember the exact location, but stumbled in by accident last night, hungry, at 9:30; they were just about to close, but took my to go order anyways. Friendly and accomodating, family owned. I just love the East Bay. Love the shady locale too.. The spot was still crackin with regulars and families.. and you would have never guessed it from the dimly lit, almost empty parking lot out front.. I quickly ordered up: #16 - mid rare beef pho #20 - Chix Pho .. and Shrimp Spring rolls.. The beef broth is years in the making.. they must have this shite down to a science, and the beef...thin cut brisket.. so tender and full of flavor and with small layers of tender fatty goodness.. the noodles are extra springy and hearty they stand up to all the ingredients and the give way to the delicious layered flavors of the older than time beef broth, nuanced with star anise and cooked onions... the flavors meld together so perfectly that I can't determine the ingredients.. I couldn't help but slurp it all down. i was so busy with my bowl.. I didn't even taste the chicken pho.. but it looked good. Spring rolls were rockin. read more

Showed up at 8:45pm, seated and served pretty much immediately. Closed the place. Graciously cleaned around us, so we didn't even notice until the check arrived, at the appropriate emptied-plates moment. This was a recommendation from a coworker, and I really have to admit that she did a fantastic job with this recommendation. Gone are the days when a restaurant was all about the food for me... I love great service, so for me, a restaurant is nothing without great staff. I was promptly seated, given ice cold water during a very hot lunch hour, my order was promptly taken, and the food came out piping hot. I'm a HUGE fan of Bun Bo Hue and they can definitely make an excellent bowl of it. Their staff is attentive, friendly, and quick. I LOVE IT! Will definitely be back for lunch breaks :)! read more

I had a very bad cold last week, and my boyfriend suggested pho, which I had never really eaten. So driving home from bart, avoiding the freeway traffic, we noticed this restaurant right of the Ave and decided to give it a try. So we ordered the beef brisket and raw steak pho, fried springrolls, and the seafood soup. Everything was yummy, and I started to feel better afterwards. And just to compare this place, I went to another place the following day in Walnut Creek for pho, and the price and taste are right on. This is a mom and pop joint, and the decor is nothing special. But the service was fast, and it is very affordable. I am now a pho fan!!! read more

So it's pretty cold outside, huh? Well it's only the best reason to get some pho in your bellylife! I have recently discovered some excellent East Bay eateries, and this is one of them. It's a homey restaurant with lots of space and inviting staff. The menu is massive, and has all the different combinations of noodles, broth, vegetables, and meat you can imagine. Being a woman of simple tastes, (and not usually one for tripe or fish balls), I was happy with my rare strips of beef pho. The broth was delicious, and actually made for some hearty leftovers later on. I also had the egg rolls -- big, savory, hot and crispy. After you finish your meal, head up to the counter and pay your bill, then head home and wait to get hungry again to finish your leftovers. read more

My buddy just brought me some bbq pork over rice and fresh spring rolls with an iced coffee. I always enjoyed the food from here. the portions are generously sized compared to all the other places in the bay area. The bbq pork is thicker and usually twice the serving when compared to other spots I have been The spring rolls are also large and you get a 3 of them. I eat a lot and every time here has never been disappointing and the take out is good also. The only complaint I would have is the mean looking waiter but you get used to it in Vietnamese joints. read more

Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. Instead of deep fried, the shrimp and fish on each taco were grilled to perfection, instead of deep fried. The fish filet was diced and stir-fried with a wonderful aroma. Instead of making a mess, I decided just to eat my taco by slicing and dicing it from the plate. Super good! If all the other Vietnamese restaurants are as delicious as this spot, I think I'll travel to Richmond (30-45 minutes) just for a bowl and some awesome Bun Bo Hue. When I first started dated the Boyfriend, I took him to a Vietnamese restaurant to have some Pho. He absolutely fell in love with Pho and have been addicted every since. Unfortunately, due to all the sodium it contains, we lately haven't been able to have as much as we did before. Anyways, I was surprise that he never had Pho before until now. I asked him if he had a Vietnamese restaurant where he lived. He wasn't sure, so I told him to look up for one and have it there (so he doesn't have to drive 30-45 minutes just to have a bowl of Pho -that's just ridiculous). A week later he told me he took my advice and had some Pho at a place near where he lived. He said, it was good but the serving was as large as the one next to my place. I told him if he I ever visit him where he lives, I told him to take me to this Vietnamese place. 6 months later, still together, we finally went up to Richmond for the weekend. Before we left, we stopped by the Pho place. Like most, it's a small Vietnamese place, humid and colorful. The first thing that got my attention was the short bright green chop sticks. They match the walls. The menu had so much choices to choose from. I love it! And... what's this, a Pho place that actually has Bun Bo Hue??? Winning! Sold! I immediately closed the menu, placed it down on the table, and stared at the Boyfriend while he looks for his item. (I thought it was kind of funny when I started to order in Vietnamese and the server gave me a double take and stared at me for a few more seconds than you usually would when taking an order from a customer. Hehee... ) When my bowl came out, the first thing that caught my attention was the soup. It was deep, dark, reddish brown. "Can this be?" I asked myself. Is the soup actually made with beef broth and not chicken broth? Please let it be so! First bite: "yes, it is! So happy!" The soup was beefy, the noodles were boiled to perfection, and it had everything I want in my Bun Bo Hue. I looked at the Boyfriend, "This is actually the best bowl of Bun Bo Hue I've had, Babe." Never give TIPS. Waiters/waitresses dont get Tips. OWNER GETS IT ALL ! The food is nothing special, just like any other vietnamese restaurants out there. The owner' wife is a b.i.t.c.h ! My friend ordered a rice plate with grilled pork and instead of white rice, he asked for fried rice... they brought him the dish with steam rice .... he said that was not what he'd ordered. The waiter brought it back and from the inside, that bitch was talking shit in Vietnamese about how it was my friend's fault (Im Vietnamese so I understood what she was saying)... she then came over and did not think it was their fault. She kept talking shit loudly to my friend, trying to defend her right... until the husband came over. My friend is a regular customer so the husband knew him, and handled the issue just fine... but if she was nice enough, the problem would have been solved nicely. SHE DIDNT EVEN SAY SORRY. They dont give TIPS to the waiters/waitresses. They use the TIPS to pay these people. So NEVER GIVE TIPS to them. Let them take some of their profit off to pay for their hard working staff ... the tips is supposed to give for the ones who serve the customers, not the owner who is already rich as fuck ! read more

Why is this place not closed down by now? This place is horrible disgusting! The food isn't bad but they are so dirty! Numerous people have found stuff in their food. I found hair in my pho bowl twice and once the vegetables weren't even cleaned properly! The service is always terrible. They need to be shut down! read more

Oh, absolutely! That pho was a warm hug in a bowl! The broth was so rich and flavorful, and those noodles were just the right kind of chewy. The meat was tender and the herbs were super fresh.
