Had an unpleasant experience here. I ordered food to go with a server named Ricky. He was really unhospitable and had a terrible attitude. I grabbed a small to go container for my Siracha, and he told me to never do that again because his boss will get very angry with him. What ??? If your boss doesn't like people using siracha for their food, then why do you have it accessible on every table ?? Makes no sense. Then Ricky told me I shouldn't sit at the bar booth, I should go sit at a table. Who are you to tell me where I can and cannot sit? From the outside, this is a deceptively inviting looking place in the Southpark Meadows sprawl. Do not be fooled! The menus were nasty, grungy and tattered. After receiving the menus that had clearly seen better days, it took the server at least 15 minutes to return to take our order. I told my friend at that point that maybe we should scamper out and just go to Wendy's for some chili or something. But we agreed to see out it played out. I ordered the vermicelli bowl. Worst vermicelli bowl EVER! It had no sprouts etc. Just meat and noodles. =\ We finished our less than mediocre food rather quickly. But guess what? Yeah, it took forever to get our ticket. Shocking I know, however, we weren't surprised by that fact at that point in the experience. I don't know anything about their Pho and suffice it to say, I never will. Go figure. read more

My quest for good Vietnamese food down south continued when I came here for a late lunch and got a bowl of pho tai (the one with the slices of rare beef). Came out fairly quick, and I was pleasantly surprised. See, when I entered the door, I didn't see any Asian folks eating inside. The staff was Vietnamese, but everyone else was white or hispanic. Usually, that's a red flag and I lowered my expectations on the food. But the pho that came out was actually decent. The meat was pink as it should be, and the broth was flavorful (didn't have to smother the bowl in hoisin sauce!). The plate of veggie extras was fresh, no wilted leaves or funky sprouts. As for the restaurant itself, it's pretty new and the place was clean. And no disposable bamboo chopsticks either! But for a review that's all plusses so far, why the 3 stars? First, there just weren't enough noodles in the bowl. There are more noodles in a packet of Ramen noodles than there were here. And second, the price ($6.95 a bowl) seemed awfully high considering the lack of noodles and that other pho shops have bigger bowls for less (sadly, up north). This may be the best pho South Austin has to offer, but I'm going to keep looking for that oasis in the desert read more

Stir fry dish all overcooked (limp overdone onion, soft broccoli, dry meat); and idk what the hell they are calling curry because that dish sure didn't look or taste like any good curry I've had. Incredibly small rice portions given as well (relative to any other modern asian restaurant around). Will never be coming back as there are plenty of better options around Austin. I am alawys craving any of the R dishes which include either chicken or pork grilled up (portions are BIG) on top of a huge bed of rice and can be accompanied with either an eggroll or shredded pork. It comes with the fish sauce and a slice of lettuce and tomato. The only complaint I have is sometimes it is a little overcooked but 9 out of 10 times its perfect. I love their shrimp spring rolls but they have raised the price recently and even though the roll is filled generoously with noodles and lettuce, I only had 3 slices of shrimp that was HALVED. The pho here is always so inviting...perfect on a cold winters day and I cant wait for the weather to drop so I can start enjoying them again. I ALWAYS get the Vietnamese Iced Coffee with condensed milk AND bubbles! So delicious and much better than any Starbucks coffee. read more

I am really surprised at the reviews for this place. I go there weekly and have been for over a year and have never once received anything that was less than delicious. I've been to so many vietnamese restaurants in Austin and this my favorite hands down. And every person I've taken here loved it. Things I've had and LOVED: Lemongrass beef, singaporean beef, shrimp fried rice, pad thai, pot stickers, hand rolls What I love the most is the beef they use in their dishes. Its cut extremely thin and has no fat on it. All the sauces have tons of flavor. The service is quick and the food is reasonably priced. All the staff are really friendly. Their peanut sauce doesn't taste like it came out of a bottle like most places in austin. Like every restaurant out there they have a few things that are just meh but if you know what to order here then you're going to get super delicious food. First of all, I'd like to say that this is the first time I've tried this location, since I've always had great experiences at the Wm Cannon and Kyle (yes, Kyle) location. That being said, after I had the Shrimp Pad Thai today I felt sick to my stomach. For starters, the food was bland, on top of that, they forgot to put peanuts in it, kinda struck me as odd. Now, the egg in it was BURNT, like beyond charred! Anytime I've had this specific dish from the other locations, there's a little char and it taste great, but this was a little too much. They threw in a lot of shrimp, which I liked, but they really had no spices/seasoning on it. On top of that, I asked for peanut sauce on the side and they forgot it, at this point, I don't know if that was a good or bad thing since the other 2 locations I mentioned set a high standard for it. As I'm writing this my stomach is really feeling sour and that really bums me out since I was hoping to leave a more positive review since there were several negative ones on here about this location. They don't seem like fiction to me at this point. On the notion of positive, thought, the Crab Rangoons were awesome and the staff was very friendly/attentive. ON a side note, not sure if this is related in anyway, but the restroom ran out of hand soap, I'd like to think that the cooks wash their hands in the kitchen with soap and water, but should any of them had gone to the restroom: they would done so and left without washing their hands! As for now, I'll stick to the Kyle and Wm Cannon locations next time I get a hankering for Pho Taison. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. We ordered online and we told our two boba smoothies would take 40 minutes to be ready. Fine. We made our way over and the rude waiter kept saying he didn't have any orders. I could literally see my name and order number on his screen through the reflection and he finally decided to acknowledge the order with "we don't have taro actually". I asked for a refund where he then said "we can't refund you. You will have to call customer service". We are never coming back here. Horrible first experience. Also, he wasn't wearing a mask. Came to this place on Sunday evening (May 26, 2013) for a quick dinner with my wife. We ordered 1 pho and 1 stir fry (what they call is Singapore Beef or something). The food is just ok, but the price is a bit more expensive than Pho Saigon in North Lamar. I paid $21 or $22 (didn't take the receipt so can't remember the exact amount) however I found that my credit card was charged $37.86 for a Pho and a wok LOL. What an dishonest service they provided! Having been here numerous times as it's the closest place to my home. I typically get the lemon grass tofu with vermicelli. It's always hot and fresh, slight on vegetables, but good flavored. I would give it a average vote. read more

I've had mixed experiences here and there over the years that I've been coming here. I enjoy the food; not once did I have a bad-tasting meal here. One of dishes I order most often, if not the pho, is the grilled pork with rice dish; I will admit that the amount of meat in the entrée has been inconsistent--some nights I have a lot of meat and other nights there was just enough to make the plate look like it was full. Service has also been an inconsistent experience. My first visit five years ago, I brought my family here and we were waited on by a very sweet lady and another nice man (I will assume they were the owners or managers at the time). I've noticed that the wait staff here don't always seem to stick around for too long which probably explains the service flip-flopping between good and poor. These days however, I notice it's usually the same two men that work at the counter and as waiters. Both are very kind and hospitable, however it isn't conducive to have only two waiters on busy days because service is slow--something I have experienced there in the last month. Overall, I am attached to this restaurant. Everyone should give it a chance. The food is fresh, delicious, and not overpriced. This is one of few Asian establishments in Southpark Meadows and I really hope it sticks around for a long time. Thai Passion and Phonatic have already closed their locations here and it would behoove me to continue patronizing this restaurant, as it is one of few Asian restaurants in the SPM shopping center. read more

Yeah yeah yeah....so I like Viet food. The closest place to South Austin was Hai Ky. Which I still love, but now we have Pho Thaison. Which is convenient for my father who is hooked on pho as well. I rarely bash places because everyone has an off night, even 5 star establishments. The only reason I rant is because I am worried about health safety. We got a pork spring roll, shrimp spring roll, pho and a charbroiled pork vermicelli bowl. The spring roll wrappers were really tough, the lettuce was old and the shrimp tasted weird. The pho was delicious but the meat tasted like it was going old. In the vermicelli bowl, there were a few pieces of pork that were bloody, tons of (taco shredded) iceberg lettuce and the noodles were a little hard. I am not a hard person to please but this was by far the worst Vietnamese restaurant I've found in Austin. Be safe if you venture in. read more

I feel I have to inform everyone of how terrible this place is. Do not waste your time, gas, and money. I had the Pho Tai which was inedible. The broth tasted like water with fish sauce. There wasn't even the aroma of pho that you look forward to smelling. The beef tasted and smelled like it was spoiled. The egg rolls tasted just as bad and served room temperature at best and not piping hot out of the fryer. We found a cellophane wrapper in the egg rolls as well. The pork belly buns had no flavor. Not a review I am happy to write. Upon arrival I was handed a menus and told to pick a seat. It took about 10 minutes for our server to come to check on us. Although she was polite, the service and experience were horrible. First came our sushi... (Be warned .. Not something I would usually order from a place like this but a craving is a craving)... The fish seemed old and tasted funny. The ginger was pink (immitation). Then came the pho. First off I am not sure what the stink was but it smelt like the water was sitting in the bowls for days, the meat was chewy and the Vietnamese meatballs were the least but that. I could hardly even consume my broth, and had to stop myself from the smell made me want to gag upon the smell. Do yourself a favor and go to HEB, as you could probably save money and make it taste way better, if you were a blind cook with your hands cut off. read more

I rarely do review unless it makes a really bad or great impression on me and this one did!!! Visiting my sister in Austin and decided to get some Pho in the cold weather. The waitress came and give us the menus and decided she won't take the orders until we look for her after 10 minutes. Started taking orders and my sister and brother wanted meatballs added to their normal "pho tai" and mentioned it at least 5 times. She looked confused according but I assure to my sister that she will get her order right. Waited another 10 minutes when another waiter came by and give us all the spoons, bean sprouts, etc.. Guess what!???!!!!! 3 of the spoons were dirty! Food debris were still sticking to the spoon!!!! This leave a bad taste in my mouth immediately! We had to asked for a well cleaned one and it did come. Now comes the 6 bowls of pho that we ordered. The meatballs that my sister and brother asked for were never added!!! Thus, the waitress had no idea except the number code in the menu when we pointed to her. My rare beef pho is overcooked that makes my beef taste no better than a bark from a tree. The broth tasted really weird with a sour taste w/o me adding any lime. The pho noodles were overcooked thus soggy and not chewy like fresh noodles should be, more like instant noodle pho. The worst pho place ever in my 20 years of eating anywhere. Will never be here again even if you pay me to! read more

I migrated to south Austin recently, and this place was recommended to me by several friends that live near the Southpark Meadows shopping center. It never disappoints! I'm kind of picky when it comes to pho-since I rarely eat red meat, I always get the chicken or meatless pho. Some pho houses use terribly sub-par quality poultry and there's nothing that grosses me out more than biting into a rubbery, gristly piece of chicken. YUCK. Happily, I have never had this problem at Pho Taison. I order mine with white meat and it's consistently good. The lemongrass chicken is tasty as well. Thumbs up all around. read more

I ordered a fried eggroll a brisket pho. The eggroll was very gross and blackened near the tips of it. The brisket was really tough, dry and dark so I only ate the noodles. I absolutely love eating here! The pho is amazing!! And to top it off the serve sushi at a very readable price!! The wait staff is super sweet even if I come in right before they close (which I try my best not to do) the food here is fantastic! Absolutely awful. Ordered egg rolls to start off with which turned out to be cold and just foul tasting, consequently sent them back. Strike one. Ordered the Pad Thai, came out looking quite strange as compared to my standard of the dish. Asked for crushed red pepper and was brought three different peppers, none of which were what I had described to the non-English speaker server. Strike two. Finally the taste test; it was hands down the absolute worst thing I've ever tried. After waiting for the server to come back and ask how everything was for five minutes and not taking another bite, I got up asked for the manager and explained that it was the most disgusting food ever and that I refused to eat. I love this place. I don't really eat a lot of asian food, but I like Pho. Their bowls are HUGE, ingredients always look fresh and the service is awesome. We have even taken our dog- on the outdoor patio, and the waiter was very kind to her. You can't beat the prices and there's a decent selection of asian beer, too. My boyfriend lives down here (southpark meadows) so if you don't feel like dragging yourself all the way to 6th street, this is a palatable strip mall- it's still new and fresh. Plus, after dinner you can go to Little Woodrows a few stores down and try out their patio. read more
