You know I have been coming here for years and years and at one point they started to change up the menu and prices and it sort of pushed me away but.... Buuuuuuut... It was the sort menu change they needs to happen and I have to say it gets better and better each year. One of my favorite things to get is the Calamari it is the best ive had in Austin so far and ive been to plenty of sea food places here. I love Pho and was really looking forward to trying this place out. They have a huge menu with so many choices. I ended up ordering a curry dish instead of Pho......I should have definitely stuck with my original choice. I also ordered crab Rangoon as an appetizer. They were delicious but very greasy. The oil was dripping out of them. The sweet and sour sauce was also very interesting and different. It was very sweet and not at all sour. My curry was delicious but more like a curry soup. It was very thin, but had tons of flavor. The staff was friendly, but it is kind of confusing whether or not you are supposed to order at the counter or just have a seat. The inside set up is very crowded and not set up very well. The tables were kind of sticky and not whiped down. Wow. Hot tea is pre made. They will warm it up when you order. The pho broth was totally bland. Meats are like crap, cut into weird chunks even the meatballs they slice them all up into tiny pieces. I give this place a 5+ I always crave the Pho Tai Son brisket Pho, and it always helps whenever I am feeling sick. I love the older lady that works their. She is like my good friend even though I don't know her name. She and her daughter are always so sweet and amazing. And I love the lady that wears the ponytail and works the same shift as the guy with red hair. They are always fast and the food always taste so freaking good. I also love the way they talk to me and treat me. I never would have went here if my boyfriend didn't show me it. But I definitely will take this place over any Pho place. read more

Spoiled meat alert. Got cooked beef from here that was spoiled, I could smell it it despite it being cooked well done and the color was GRAY with some pieces having a noticeable green tint. I wanted to like this place, the staff is friendly, its cute inside but serving meat that has gone off is dangerous and I will be contacting the health department about this as consuming spoiled meat can result in hospitalization for those with weak or compromised immune systems. read more

Tonight we ordered two beef pho soups and spring rolls for my husband and daughter and they went bananas on the flavor. They loved the outcome and appreciated the way it was packaged. Normally they have to add a ton of salt or lime juice to pho but tonight, they did not do that; they said I should definitely order from Pho Thai Son again! I'll say it now, my wife would give this place a 4 or 5. She comes in and gets her honeydew pearl drink and her B2 (grilled pork on vermicelli with an egg roll) and is happy as can be. I've had a bit more trouble. This is the newest Pho Thaison (or Thai Son if you prefer) in Austin, and the interiors are definitely spruced up compared to the location on Guadalupe or Wm. Cannon. Flat panel tvs, nice tables, etc. The service is good and attentive. You'll see the same folks every time, and if you've been going to the Wm. Cannon location for a while they might recognize you. They're always friendly. The menus been spruced up a bit, they've added california rolls (don't bother) and pad thai (eh) . If you're coming here, though, you're coming for pho or one of the old standbys. The old standbys like the grilled pork over vermicelli are as good as you remember. I usually get #54, which has a mix of imitation crab, squid, grilled pork, grilled chicken and shrimp in a broth with egg noodles. It's good and very filling. Not particularly flavorful, but I may not be applying the sauces right. read more

Went here a couple times and had mediocre food and service is always terribly slow. They had half price pitchers of beer during happy hour. $6 for a pitcher of Budweiser is a great deal and I actually really enjoyed their chicken wings appetizer. The rest of the food is mediocre to piss poor. So I thought I'd found a good place to get a snack of wings and cheap beer. However, the next two times I visited they were out of wings. The third try I asked if they had wings before I even sat down and, of course, they did not. Never went back. One day I decided to try another location farther north. My friend and I went in and sat down and waited 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. They didn't have Budweiser (bottled or draft) and didn't have wings! WTF! We were starving so we decided to order some of their other food. We made our selections and guess what - they were out of both of those dishes as well! It was the also the first meal after the wedding so plenty of people were happy to eat some pho since they were hung over (odd how it's good hangover food huh?). Apparently it's a chain of restaurants in the Austin area, and this branch, according to my cousins, wasn't the best one. Oh well. It was the one where we all congregated. I decided to go with my typical dish. So my hefty bowl of steak, tripe, tendon, and flank steak in pho came, and like the other pho I had seen at another restaurant when someone ordered it in Austin, the broth was very dark. I'm accustomed to translucent and yellow-ish broth. The second thing I noticed actually was that the broth was quite oily. There was certainly a lot of good cuts of meat (beef in Texas, of course!) but it couldn't take away from the fact that I felt like I was drinking slimy soup. I barely finished my bowl because of the quantity. Dont waste your time or money. My husband and I order the same thing at every asian/Vietnamese restaurant. Pork Vermicelli Bowl & Shrimp fried Rice. We've had some better then others understandably, But this was the Worst. Not much food at all. (We ordered to go) If it was good I wouldn't have cared much (about the amount) but it wasn't. I've visited this restaurant many times. Every time I have had excellent service. There usually isn't a long wait to be seated, and the wait time for food is very short compared to similar restaurants. The only drawback I experienced in my past visit was the use of plastic bowls. Not long ago they used ceramic/porcelain bowls. With the plastic bowls there is a noticeable blunting of the flavors. The food is still good, but the taste is lessened slightly because of the dish it's served it. Still it's an overall enjoyable eating experience. read more
