Don't order to go....ok, if you do, check your bag first! These pooters keep forgetting (or omitting) my gee-damn sauces and paid-for extra sides of veggies. Oh, and where is my tripe? If you are one of those restaurants that insists on staying in the dark ages and accepting cash only, it is a good idea to have PROMINENT signage informing your customers. On the front door is a must, as well as on the menus. This location only has a small sign behind the cash register that says "cash only." The cash register is tucked away in the back corner of the restaurant and no one would ever notice it until they are going up to pay, at which point it is too late. I pointed out that this one small sign wasn't good enough and the owner rudely replied, "We've been here for 9 years!" As if that irrelevant fact alone is automatically supposed to put customers on notice of their stupid fucking cash only policy. Never coming back. There are way too many pho places in the area that accept credit cards, as well as those that make customers aware of a cash only policy up front and aren't assholes about it. They don't really provide great service and their broth is just mediocre. Throw in their cash only policy and it just doesn't cut it for me. A very sorry attempt at a bowl of soup. We eat a lot of pho, we know exactly how its suppose to taste, and which ingredient are used. The meat was flavorless, think it had been frozen. The broth was beyond disappointing, lacking all the traditional flavors, brown water. On top of the bad soup, they charge for tea, and the coffee is not good either. I felt bad for their fish, tropical fish need water close to 80' F. This guy keeps them at room temp, no heater, what a jerk! I let him know the parameters for his fish, he didn't care. I know what your thinking. Yup, I'm psychic. "Than Brothers? The Pho chain? 5 stars?" Yes. Not just yes, hell yes. You got a problem with that you can take it up with management. Edmonds has a lot of Pho places within 5-10 minute driving distance from my place so this location somehow eluded me. Well, now it's on my radar and I don't reckon any Pho in Seattle will challenge it anytime soon. I stuck with my usual - tendon and brisket. After being seated it came out three minutes later, tops. Great meat and veggies. The broth was piping hot and spicy and is the best tasting broth I've encountered in any Pho joint so far. Pop in a couple jalapenos and I'm on cloud nine. Than Brothers has pretty solid pho, I must say. I had the small veggie pho (which came with tofu and mushrooms) and it was quite delicious. Lots of noodles, lots of tofu, and tasty broth! They also bring you plenty of bean sprouts and thai basil so you can load up on that as well. My bowl was overflowing with all the deliciousness. The place, yes, has a cream puff with your meal as well! It was fairly delicious and a good end to the meal. I've had better cream puffs at Pho Thy Thy in the U District, however... I was a little surprised to find that this place is cash only. I can understand for most small businesses why they have the cash only policy. However, since this place is part of a pretty large chain, it definitely caught me off guard. The service was also a bit weird, as my friend Meghan K. mentioned. They spent most of the meal taking items off of our table and bringing them back later on. I'm assuming that they were working to refill everything, but it was kind of awkward to have them taking things away one by one and bringing them back one by one throughout the entire meal without saying a word. I have become a HUGE fan of this pho restaurant. I realize that pho is always rather quick to be served, but their service is always good, and you never have issue finding parking at this location. Often times I want pho from a restaurant closer to where I live but the parking lot is small, they almost always lose my business to Than Brothers! So very disappointed in this place. Thought maybe because they have several locations they must be doing something right but I was wrong. My coworker and I came here for lunch and was seated immediately which was great, our pho was served almost instantly, which was also a plus but when taking that very sip was instantly disappointed because the broth was lukewarm and so plain. There was barely a hint of star anise or cinnamon in the broth. I ordered the pho tai which is pho topped with rare beef in which they pour the hot broth over the meat to semi cook it. Then came the infamous puff pastry. It was so dry and tasted as if it was a couple days old. Call me picky but I know what pho is supposed to taste like and this is not it. Perhaps if you have a cold and your tastebuds were off, it wouldn't taste as terrible. Sad to say I won't be going to any Than Brothers again. read more

Than brothers is hands-down the best bowl of pho in this area in my opinion! The prices are great and the soup is simply delicious. They do not have anything else on the menu besides pho, but they have perfected it! I also typically get the iced coffee with condensed milk. They serve it with the coffee steeping above the glass. It is very strong, flavorful coffee. After your meal, you will get complimentary cream filled pastries. Very yummy and the perfect little dessert snack after the fabulous soup. My ONLY complaint is that they don't take credit or debit cards, so make sure you go with cash in hand. Than Bros is a must try if you're a fan of Vietnamese soup! read more

Okay - There is every justification in the WORLD right now to raise prices, especially at an establishment that is already renowned for having insanely low prices. I'm not mad that Than Brothers (all locations) raised their prices - I'm just a little surprised that they raised it over a dollar more, why not raise it incrementally so I would barely notice? What used to be $3.85 small bowl of pho is now $4.95 - reasonable, but quite the difference. You go to Pho Than Brothers for one thing. Pho. You might also go for the cream puffs, but most people come for the pho. I'm not sure if it's a franchise, as it seems like owners have changed hands over the years. With those changes, I really think the consistency of their pho goes along with it. Most recently, it's been pretty great. I love the speed, and it's always the perfect flavor every time I crave pho. Except for my mamas of course. I usually go for a small #9, two circles of sriachia and four hoisin sauce. Everyone likes their pho differently right? I love a lot of lime, and a little bit of bean sprouts, and that's my perfect bowl. The pho here is satisfying, and great if you're in a time crunch. It's cheap, fast, and fairly friendly. Seriously, my daughter and I went in for lunch today, sat down, 1 minute later had our order taken and 1 minute after that had our food. One thing to remember at this location if you need a fork, like I do (don't judge) you have to ask (Everett has them on the table) which I normally forget to until well after I need it and am wearing some of my soup. As other yelpers have mentioned CASH ONLY but it's cheap, too - 2 bowls of pho (one small, one medium) and a Diet Coke set me back $15. Pho Than Brothers is always good. I come to realize the must be franchised because the restaurant listed as Edmonds location does not take credit cards. I've never been to a Than Brothers that doesn't take credit card. Cash Only. Not only do they not post clearly before you enter that they are Cash Only, they have a cash machine in the resturant. Just in case you realize finally as you are eating they don't take cards. Guess what? They charge 2.50 to get cash to pay your dinner bill. Very sneaky. We went in to meet with our family who was already there and seated, and as soon as we walked in to greet them, the server barks at us rudely asking how many people we had altogether, we said four, and she pointed to a table we could sit at. Even the looks on the other customers faces expressed how shocked they were of how rudely she addressed us. My number 1 go to place for pho! They have locations everywhere, and they are all typically consistent with their quality/quantity of foods, customer service, etc. Edmonds location ONLY takes cash. What you see is what you get. They do pho, and drinks, and that's it, but they do it extremely, extremely well. I've been to many pho restaurants and Than Brothers is my go-to every time. Broth is always rich, flavorful, and warm, they don't skimp on any element, you'll always get plenty of noodles and meat, and your bowls are HUGE. I don't think I've ever seen anyone order an extra large because a medium is more than enough to fill up any healthy person. Oh, yeah, and they serve super fast. I CANNOT have Pho anywhere else. Perhaps I was spoiled from the start, being introduced to Pho at Than Brothers. But regardless, it's the VERY BEST here. They are quick, clean, nice, and the food is good. Even with their recent raising of prices it's still well worth the money and going out of your way to come here. The Pho is delicious and to top it off you get the best little cream puff you could ask for. I never came out of this place with someone who didn't want to go back here soon. Quick service - love their pho! On cold nights, it's so good to get their pho, with a warm honey tea. Their custard puffs are good too, we always get them to go :) The only thing I don't like about this place is the cash-only policy. One time I forgot about this, and ended up j-walking across the street to the gas station for the atm. Brought friends and family from out of town, of all places they miss Pho Than Brothers the most - no kidding. Don't expect 'warm' and 'friendly' waiter though, they get things done very quickly but don't really bother to throw a quick smile at you. Pho Than Brothers was my second pho experience, and it was far better than my first. I ordered the #1 and some peppermint tea. It came out fast and was nice and hot. The flavor was pretty good. This place is pho-cking awesome. I've been to this Than Brothers location, and the one by Greenlake, also on Aurora (aka Highway 99). I'd have to say that the Edmonds location is better than the Greenlake one! The pho is delicious. The sizes have the perfect portions with a great price. I usually get the small size for $5, and I'm always full. If I'm hungry enough, I could probably chow down a medium sized bowl, but for me, a small is perfect. As usual, every order comes with the plate of bean sprouts, basil leaves, jalapeno slices and limes, and the cream puff. This location is noticeably cleaner than the Greenlake location. There's a fish tank right when you enter, and there are still mirrors on the wall (I'm telling you, if you sit next to the walls, don't catch yourself looking in the mirrors while slurping up noodles. It's not a pretty sight for anyone). If you're ever up North in the Edmonds area, I suggest stopping by Than Brothers. It's in a little strip mall-ish lot, so it might be a little hard to catch if you're going southbound on Aurora. read more

I used to live in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood and I remember well when Than Bros. moved into their digs on Broadway. After my very first meal there, I became a devotee. I ate there at least once every weekend and sometimes after work during the week for dinner if I didn't feel like cooking. So after I decided to take the plunge into suburbia, I was delighted when I discovered that there's a Than Bros. here with soup just exactly the same as what I was used to in my old stomping grounds. Than Bros. business model seems very clear to me and I'd like to outline it for readers who may be unfamiliar with this local chain. Essentially, Than Bros. offers the most unlikely, desirable products imaginable -- a serving of food that is: 1. Colossal 2. Satisfying 3. Healthy 4. Cheap. To enable them to offer such an incredible combination of attributes, they expect the following of you: 1. Cash only 2. Come in, chow down, and leave. If you like only having to pay five bucks for basically a vat of delicious homemade soup, then you have to understand that part of your payment is not being able to linger around hogging a table that could be seating other hungry (and paying) guests. In order to offer this kind of insanely affordable pricing, they need to be able to turn the tables fast. I'm happy to oblige them! I'm also delighted to pay cash only. Beyond salt and pepper, condiments are the ubiquitous Sri Racha brand of hot sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and a smoky amendment that seems to be hot pepper flakes in oil. I believe fish sauce is available upon request. You're given a cream puff ("bahn choux") at the start of your meal, usually served up with the plate of bean sprouts, lime wedges, and jalapeno slices that you'll use to amend your soup to taste. The facilities have always been very clean any time I've eaten here. Service is friendly and quite swift. Don't be surprised if your waiter asks if you know what you want the minute you sit down. (Remember, part of the deal here is that they need to be able to turn tables fast.) They're not being rude, they're just asking. For many patrons, like me, I have a regular dish and can tell them right off the bat I want the "Number 3." Within five minutes, it's on the table in front of me. I'm sure someone with a background eating Vietnamese food could suggest a dozen other pho establishments better than this one, but I'm a native born American and can't really tell the difference. I'm more interested in the cleanliness of the restaurant than the quality of food. To me, the pho is fantastic, but I think the cream puffs are the icing on the cake! Dishonest, lying, sacks of ****. There is no difference in the amount of broth you get from small to extra large when ordered to go. The people working straight up lied to me when I asked what difference in amount broth was, telling me that you get more when you order larger. The food was really good! I had a veggie pho and it had fresh broccoli, carrots, chives, mushrooms and tofu. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have any appetizers on the menu. Aside from the food, the service was mediocre. we came in and the first thing i noticed were dirty tables, and I sat down to wait for a clean table. I was shown to my table, realized that i had to sit at the same table with another couple. This was a little awkward, but not a big deal. Then I got my food. I went there on Friday, ordered spring roll and pho,my spring roll never came. Never mind in that , not a big deal. After I finished my pho ready to leave and ready to pay at the counter. The server brought out the spring roll to my table and yelling at me that my spring roll is ready, it takes a long time to cook. World's quickest service, sit down and a giant water is placed in front of you. Order up and the bowl is in front of you within 2 mins. I love the efficiency, not the best pho, but certainly better than most. Pho is one of those things I can eat every few days, I like how they are pretty busy so I know the broth is fresh and not left overs from previous nights. I haven't been here in years but now I'm wondering why I been neglecting them. I would say best pho in the edmonds lynnwood area. Have to head to Seattle or Everett to get better. I wish they had a few other Vietnamese noodle dishes like bun no hue or hu tieu just to switch up the broth and switch up the game sometimes. I use to love the pho here. It's cheap and it's delicious! However, I learned from a reliable source that they do not let their waiters keep the tips that are meant for the waiters. I realize that this is a common practice at smaller Asian restaurants, but it is in no way acceptable. If you want more money, charge more for your pho. Do not steal from the waiters.
