Found this place of course through yelp during 2023 Christmas Day. What a blessing to have this business open. About an 18min drive from my place and definitely worth it to come here. It was obviously busy but Pho Van has an amazing business structure. Plenty of hands on deck. I was easily helped to place my to-go order for lunch. It was a large order for my family but I was rest assured that my order will be out within 10 minutes. To my surprise it was out right on time and packed perfectly in a box. Got the classic Dac Biet and Bun Bo Hue - everything you need in a pho restaurant! The vibe is nice inside and parking was a bit tough for us but we found something a few blocks out. We walked in around noon and we were seated right away. I decided to order the traditional chicken pho. After ordering I realized they have an option to get freshly made noodles, which I'll be ordering next time. My order came out fast and though I order a regular size pho the portion was on the bigger side. The broth had such great flavor and everything was cooked perfectly. This has become one of my go to pho places. Right as I was finishing up this placed started to get extremely busy (1pm for lunch hour). They had music playing in the background but it was low. I am doing an update because we came back and it was still really good, for starters, we got lucky with parking right away, place is really clean, we had big TV right in front to watch the game. Workers are not fluent in English yet but they are super nice and friendly especially to kids, so that's a super plus! Got another soup and a vermicelli plate with shrimp and pork spring rolls. Tea was still good! Love that they have all condiments on the table so you don't have to bother asking. Only thing they could improve is to put out at least one set of utensils like metal fork and spoons on the table so we don't have to get up to ask. Happy with service and food here read more

Was craving pho so badly and left craving pho because this place unfortunately did not hit. When I pass by I always see that this spot is always busy. First off parking is a bit hard but discovered there's a parking lot in the back. Service was great and amazing. Food comes out quick. Waiters always checking up on you. The food however it is just not it. We got the egg rolls and those were good. Crunchy delicious comes with sauce, lettuce and cilantro. Got the #1 pho. It was so bland! The soup did not have a lot of flavor. The noodles did not taste good at all. They had a hard core preservative taste and are not fresh. Person I went with got the same thing and neither one of us ate much besides the egg rolls. They said those microwaveable pho instant noodles are better. The sad part is I'd have to agree with them. I can not with the hard core preservative noodles and bland soup. Not authentic tasting pho. There are a lot of pho places in the area with better food. This place came recommended from a friend. We tried the pork paste spring rolls and the Vietnamese egg rolls. Highly recommend the pork paste spring rolls - not as good as Brodard :), but pretty good! I do not recommend the pho. It was greasy and sweet at the same time. We did not finish ours. As other reviewers have mentioned Pho Hoa is much better for pho. We will come back for spring rolls and to try some of the other dishes! read more

I've driven past Pho Van's neon light sign quite a few times when venturing into City Heights for Vietnamese food, but have never eaten there until now. It's easy to miss the sign on the side of the restaurant, advising of Parking In The Rear, as you drive past the alley right before the restaurant. There are also lots of street parking all around if you miss the rear parking lot. The restaurant was pretty much full house, with 2 small tables available when we went for lunch. The ladies are quickly dotting around the restaurant to take orders, run food and clear tables. They are very helpful with any questions or requests you may have. The man working seemed a bit confused the whole time he was trying to help out the whole time we were there for lunch. As it was a cold day, my partner and I were craving noodle soup, but something other than Pho. There is a nice selection of other noodle soups offered, aside from Pho here. I ordered Hu Tieu My Tho (#86) with Shrimp, Pork, Fishballs & Imitation Crab. It usually comes with glass noodles, but changed it to the wide flat rice noodles. My partner ordered the Bo Kho (#62) which is the beef stew with wide flat rice noodles. Service was good, except for an odd situation with the confused male worker that I mentioned. He brought over the Bo Kho my partner order, however it had skinny rice noodles and not the wide flat rice noodles ordered. He then told us that they made a mistake and put skinny noodles and asked if we were okay with that. We looked at him with confusion, not knowing how to respond, as we've never been asked if we would be okay with a mistake that the restaurant makes. Before we were able to tell him that we want what we ordered, one of the ladies yelled to him that it was for a different table and he just picked it back up and gave it to the the correct customer. As the "mistake" was resolved on its own, I didn't hold this against them for my review. Now, if it wasn't for someone else and he expected us to tell him if we'd be okay with their mistake, then I would have had an issue with their service. Usually when we order Pho, it comes out really quickly, but these noodle soup dishes took a lot longer than usual, but that's okay. The large size was indeed large and we couldn't finish our bowls. They sure don't skimp at this restaurant and are very generous with the proteins and offerings that accompany the noodle soups! Large at many other restaurants are about the same as the small size here. Both dishes were good and we got our hot noodle soup fix for sure! I will definitely be back for more meals in the near future and will have to try their Pho next time! read more

I never leave reviews, specially bad ones, But this one is an exception! I came to have dinner with my mom because I am not feeling too well, so I was craving chicken pho! This was the second time we came to this place and mind you the first time the service wasn't the greatest but we let it slide because we somewhat liked the food and the environment! But this time around it was the total opposite, we left feeling very disappointed and very discriminated! For one we got kicked out and told not to come back, all because I had to bring my kids with me and two because they ate food they brought from outside. What was I supposed to do leave them In the car to eat while I sat at the restaurant comfortably eating my food. I get it that maybe it is not the correct thing to do, but what do you do when you live far away and all you want is to have a peaceful dinner and your kids do not like pho! The lady at the counter kept looking at us, I noticed it at the end, my kids had a small burrito that they finished and cleaned after themselves, which we took our trash with us so they didn't have to deal with it, and we cleaned the table as much as possible. I didn't think anything of it until it was time to pay, the lady at the from and older lady, as she was charging me said, I'm sorry BUT I WILL NOT SERVE ONE PLATE TO 5 people. Like I mentioned before my three children ate a burrito. And yes me and my mom shared a small plate and to justify the reason I had a gastric sleeve so a year ago and I am not able to eat a lot, and my mother is a 60 year old women who doesn't eat much either. So how are we doing anything wrong. They should be grateful we chose to eat at their location, and spend our hard earned money here! Even if it was just one plate! The lady's last words were don't come back, like why would you say that to someone who is spending money at your location, how ungrateful is she! This just shows they are very entitled and only care about making money and not about keeping their clientele! Now they lost a great customer who is very loyal to mom and pop shops like this all because they want to be greedy and expect someone like me who doesn't eat a lot to waste food and money all because the lady thinks all 5 of us ate from one plate, like she kept staring at us and saw that it was just me and my mom eating! I've been coming here for years with no problems but recently the service has gone down. The reason for my bad review is because I came here this morning with my husband and baby who has special needs. My server who wears the jade bracelet took a good look at her and began asking the most insensitive questions and it shocked me even more when she began insulting my babies looks. I decided to brush it off and speak to the manager after breakfast, until we spotted the biggest cockroach i've ever seen in my life crawling up the wall only a few feet away from us. That was our cue to leave, but not until we spoke to the manager about our daughter being insulted by one of their servers, who in response showed no type of remorse or regrets about the way we were treated. read more

Phở Vân is more of a Nothern style Phở, so the flavor and portion will be a little different, plus they were not around that long, so if you want decent portion, you might wanna check out Phở Hoà. Their broth actually was flavorful, and they do have secret menu item called sụn, you order an extra bowl of that on the side, you will enjoy your noodles a little more. The price was a few bucks higher than some other authentic Vietnamese phở, but I get why and I still enjoyed it every time I came. Their parking situation also tough if you decided to dine in on the weekends, street parking will be your best option, walk a few blocks because the alley parking will most likely full. read more

I came here with a coworker after work and thought the food was well done! I got the Combination Fried Rice which comes with Vietnamese sausage, bacon, shrimp and chicken in the fried rice. It was flavorful and really well done! I had never had a fried rice with that many varieties of protein. The portion size was also pretty good for the price! The egg rolls were flavorful and not overbearing with oil. I thought the sauce complimented it well too and was not over powering in crazy flavors. I recently learned that eating egg rolls with the lettuce not only tasted good, but also prevented oil from getting on your hands. The women serving us were attentive and checked on us every so often not being overbearing either. The thing i noticed is there were tvs with different sports, news, but there wasnt really sound or music. You could hear conversations in the restaurant, which isnt horrible but could change the atmosphere a bit. I also think the restaurant is in an awkward location, its right on el cajon blvd and parking can be scarce and hard to find. Leaving less foot traffic and more word of mouth. We came here back in 2010, by mere chance , looking for soup, and we were blown away. The food is outstanding and fresh. Authentic Vietnamese cooking and homemade broth for Phó. I love the fried rice and I always ask for the same things on my fried rice as you include in Phó, like sprouts, fresh basil, jalapeño, and they always give us more than enough, so we have plenty leftovers for lunch the next day. Atmosphere wise during lunch when I went - lots of babies screaming, not real peaceful and lots of people being loud. The service was quick but the guy serving wasn't real friendly.
