I was hoping to find a good vietnamese sandwich place near my gym, and decided to try this one a few weeks ago . $24 for 3 regular sandwiches? Huh?? Did I miss something? Usually I pay $3-$5 max per sandwich, and those are very good. Well, I felt bad since I had already ordered it so I paid for them anyway, thinking they would be extra filled with meat or somehow more special than my regular Banh Mi place. At $8 per sandwich I thought maybe they would include some extras such as chips which somehow added to the high price. Wow, not at all. They were not even as good as regular viet sandwich places you can find in downtown SJ or Sunnyvale, etc. The bread was not as good as normal places, and after I finished eating one I got a sour stomach (queasy). I feel bad giving such a low rating but feel the need to share my opinion when there are so many other good places in the South Bay. read more

Delicious lunch! Just loved the attentive staff and the yummy food! Mary, the owner, was just wonderful. She stopped and chatted about the food, restaurant and since I've traveled to Vietnam twice she said they'd be happy to make anything for me that wasn't on the menu. WOW! Talk about awesome! My family decided to get some pho and saw this place on Yelp, with 4 stars, awesome right?.. No. The experience was terrible. When we first walked on, we were treated with how many, told them 5 and they presented a table right away. We tell the kids to head over there and before we could start walking to the table, this other lady standing there's tells us to go to hurry to our table, that it's ready. We just got told to sit down and now you're rushing us to sit down. Kind of rude but whatever. We sit down and they ask if we're ready, we order an appetizer and then they leave. We were never given water so we had to ask for it. We get our appetizer then water and ask us if we're ready to order. We start ordering for our kids first. We start with our oldest son, kids beef pho, as soon as we place his order, the waitress tells us to hold on, she'll be right back and leaves. No problem. As were waiting, another large family walks in and they are also seated right away. Right after they are seated, they were given water immediately. After they were given water. Our waitress starts taking their order, WTH!?! Now were upset and wait 15 minutes until she was done with them. She returns and she asks if we're ready to order. My wife says we've actually been ready and we started to order earlier, the lady says, oh but you told me to wait so I left. Now we're really upset, my wife says no, you told us to hold on after you took our sons order. We ask her if she still has his order, she says no. That's when we had enough. We asked to pay for the appetizer and then we leave. They don't ask what's wrong or why we're leaving. Not sure how they have 4 stars but I wish I could leave them 0 stars. read more

Pros: Food is delicious. Try their pho (duh, but sub with egg noodles), grilled pork spring rolls, banh mi. Yum. Only pho place around here that serves beer/wine. Cons: Overpriced, tiny portions, especially when there are lots of great authentic Vietnamese options (with much larger portions and more reasonable prices) just a few miles away in Little Saigon. I've never seen the CLOSED sign on a pho place so much. Also service is incredibly slow. It's a shame because this place has so much potential, but if you are going to do the whole gourmet Vietnamese/ white table cloth thing with these prices, get your service dialed in!! It takes a lot for me to be disgusted by someone's rude remarks. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt - who knows what personal issues one could be going through. Perhaps it's the heightened maternal instinct since becoming a 2nd time mama. "Excuse me, your baby is too loud and will disturb the other customers". Yes, this came from the owner herself. We just got seated and were still settling down. It was Christmas week so the restaurant was more crowded than usual; everyone around us seemed happy and immersed in conversation. Imagine our shock when the owner walked over to our table with a wide smile on her face and actually asked that we quiet our 3 month old baby, like we wanted our baby to cry. Unbelievable. Our initial reaction was to apologize. But as she walked away and as we glanced around to see no one looking disturbed by our presence, our sympathy turned into feelings of disgust. Needless to say, we got up and left the establishment just as fast as we were seated. So the 1 star is for being seated quickly. Congrats, Pho Wagon you have lost yet another customer. We ended up having lunch down the street at Panda Express where I am happy to report that the manager there treated us with more respect and common courtesy than this sit down establishment. It was a shame since I'm a sucker for clean looking pho restaurants. Although, half the time I ordered the 3 bean dessert drink, they were out of the ingredients to make it. Hmph. read more

Not sure why but it has come to my attention that everywhere i go crowd will follow me. Last night ( Sunday) i felt like having pho again and after i sat down the whole place filled with families. I mean stuffed. Seems that word is spreading about their good food and excrllent service. Pho Wagon has been my fave place for years. Their pho is undeniably the best I had in entire Bay. Its fresh, good tasting and filling. Find me here at least once a week. I just hope that the quality of their food won't get worse with more patrons. I really hope. read more

Living most of my time in east San Jose I have learned to appreciate Vietnamese food and the culture. I was driven to try this place by the reviews, quickly I realized this was going to be a new experience , since the wait was about 20 minutes. I order the special Pho, I usually add extra meat but not this time not for almost $3 per item. The pho arrived cold and the meat was Chewy, impossible to swallow. I try other meats but all of them where super hard to chew. For sure this place doest used quality meat and the flavor on the soup was SO Plain. Don't waste your time here and definitively your $$$. read more

I feel like I'm cheating on Pho Lynn while writing this review, but I have to say, amazing food! The spring rolls are fresh with the right amount of shrimp, meat, etc., but wish they would give out an extra cup of peanut sauce. Side note: I still think Lynn's peanut sauce is better. The bf and I normally get the #7 (without tripe). BIG fans of their tendon! Every time I go there, they have a nice balance of meat, broth, noodles, etc. We also try to get their Thai iced teas (which are free on Tuesdays), we've had their Vietnamese coffee (get ready for a shock of caffeine afterwards), and have fought, yes FOUGHT, over their smoothies. The only reason why I don't give this place five stars is their customer service. I've been to Pho Wagon at various times of the day, sometimes crowded, and sometimes none at all. I feel like they could do a better job of being attentive - i.e. filling your glass with water, tea, etc., and most importantly, giving and taking the check. Other than maybe one or two occasions, we have always had to walk the check up to the register. There was also another instance where an older woman was very attentive to the table behind us, telling a mom, grandmother, and child about various food and offering dishes for them to try. We pretty much felt like the ugly chick who didn't get asked to dance. I know this is a pho place and we shouldn't expect a lot of customer service, but I thought this would be a step higher than the other pho places with it not looking like a hole in a wall, and charging higher than other places. Overall, the place has good food, good ambience, and attracts people who have never had pho before (we keep overhearing customers complain about the raw meat... sigh). read more

No no no! Not patronizing this place anymore! I used to come pretty frequently until my last visit. I went out for a fun dinner with my mom and won't be returning. The woman at the table next to us ordered a pretty complicated customized bowl of pho, and apparently it wasn't correct so she sent it back. Our soups came out almost immediately after the other woman's returned to the kitchen. They set them in front of us and I immediately saw something was wrong. We ordered identical soups, and they were slightly different. Mine was not very hot for starters, and as I stirred it, I found a bunch of tripe mixed into the noodles. (There wasn't supposed to be tripe in the rare steak soup) I mentioned this to the waitress, and she offered me another bowl of soup. No thank you, I don't want to chance having spit in my soup. I just asked for the bowl to be comped since I didn't eat any of it. She got very snippy and told me she couldn't do that. I asked to speak to a manager, and the manager was equally rude. Definitely will be eating at House of Pho from now on. read more

This is my "omg I need pho right now" spot which means I only come here when I need pho within 10 minutes and this is the closest pho place near me I get their rare steak small pho. They give you so much meat which is a plus in my books but they don't put cilantro in their broth so I always have to ask for a side of it but the broth itself is delicious! Their fried shrimp egg rolls are amazing!! I'm not a huge fan of egg rolls but I usually order this along with my pho The service is good too. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the price. I understand its in willow glen area but $9.50 for a large pho? Tran (young Asian female) might be the worst waitress I have ever had the displeasure of being "served" by. I put "served" in quotes because she really didn't do much serving. To start - she tried to seat us at an extremely small table in the middle of the room by the front entrance. We declined, and requested to sit at any table (even a small table) next to a wall... just so that we wouldn't be right in the middle of a busy room and in close proximity to the front door (it was extremely cold outside). She then offered us another tiny table (big enough for 1 person) right next to the bathroom. It was another horrible spot, so we requested to sit at a table that was perfect for us: big enough for two people, next to a window. She said that we couldn't sit at that table (no reason why). We finally agreed to sit at the small table next to the restroom. Literally 30 seconds later - a different server (young Asian male) brought another couple over and sat them in the table we wanted. What?!? We requested to sit there and you told us we couldn't!! WTF?!? When Tran saw that the other couple was seated there, she said "oh, sorry" and walked away. Next - we ordered #2a Spring Rolls, #7 Rare Steak Pho, and #29 Rice Noodles with Pork/Prawns/Egg Roll. I asked Tran about the #29. She told me it came with the same amount of pork as the dish with pork alone but it came with an additional egg roll and 3 prawns. We ordered it and guess what? It came with 2 prawns (not 3, as Tran had told me). I informed Tran that I only got 2 prawns, and she said, "oh sorry - it only comes with two." Talk about a BAIT AND SWITCH! No remorse, no comp, just "oh, sorry". Food - 4 stars. Everything was great. The spring roll rice wrapper was a bit chewy, though and the peanut sauce was a bit gooey. Well with most places to eat at, you get what you pay for. This place used to be really good at a really good price. Their broth was flavorful, they put a lot of meat (for example in a pho tai) and it tasted good and was tender. They always brought out plenty of vegetables and would bring out extra lemons/limes if you asked them. They had pretty good service and a very nice looking restaurant. It usually seemed pretty clean outside, inside and in the restrooms. My boyfriend, best friend and I have been eating here for a couple years now (like once every two weeks) and lately the food, cleanliness, and service have just deteriorated significantly. The food has not been that flavorful, the meat is tasting worse and worse, and we now notice how watery the siracha sauce has become - although some days the food tastes better than others. There has also been a lot of little tiny flies and other bugs flying around and trying to land on our food.The owner lady of the place always walks around and speaks with the customers; we have spoken with her before. I always thought this was a nice gesture that she asked how your food was and suggested new items to try. We eventually tried their egg rolls and chicken fried rice - both dishes were excellent. However on my most recent visit in the past few weeks I let the owner lady know I had found one of these flies in my pho. She then proceeded to tell me that she was aware she had bugs in her restaurant and they were not sure where they are coming from and that if I want a new bowl of pho she can get me one, that is if the flies I found in my pho tai bother me. But otherwise she said it didn't bother everyone, some people just make a big deal over it - REALLY. Well, we had also ordered chicken fried rice as usual and I had been eating that (which was good that day). I found the fly in my soup early on and since the pho broth & meat didn't taste that great anyways I continued to eat the rice and that made me full. When we were paying the bill, we told them we were not going to pay for the bowl I didn't eat with the bug in it. The owner then came over to our table and asked if their was a misunderstanding because I didn't ask for a new bowl. I had to explain to her that I wasn't interested in a new bowl of pho that may or may not have a bug in it - SERIOUSLY! She made a big deal about that so I'll not be coming back for their food. We have given them many chances after saying we would not be back previously because their food is just so hit or miss these days with more bad experiences adding up. I have been to many Pho places and this is the best by far. Their broth is not to heavy and the flavor is just right. It is a far drive for me from Cupertino but I don't mind for a good bowl of Pho. I also enjoy putting their side of steamed veggies into my Chicken Pho. Very good. I used to get the Bun too it was good and I think they used white breast meat at the homestead location but they closed that location and only have the Meridian now. They don't always have the freshest chicken breast.. some days are better than others. But today's chicken pho was inedible. A year ago I would have rated Pho Wagon as 4 stars. No more, my last 4 or 5 visits have been disappointing. My favorite menu choice is the Vietnamese Chicken salad. For the past six months I notice the amount of chicken has dwindled down and down. Today I searched for chicken under the cabbage and found a small amount. Also the salad was not up to the usual tasty offering. There was an off taste to it that was astringent; I considered sending it back but didn't because that is not something I do. Perhaps should have. Another really annoying service issue: one diners food will be brought to the table while the other person or persons wait and wait and wait. Staff needs training on timing. Prices have gone up and service declined. I hope Pho Wagon can get back to their earlier good food and decent service but I won't be returning. read more

We just moved to the area and since we moved we were excited to see that we had a pho spot close to home. We decided to try it out tonight and left disappointed and without eating. When you walk in there's a sign in sheet, we signed in and had one person in front of us. We sat down and were waiting for our name to be called, while we waited a couple walked in and a host automatically greeted them and told them he would seat them shortly when they didn't even sign in. Another hostess quickly reminded him that he needed to seat people by the order they sign in. The lack of communication between employees should've been our first red flag. We continued to wait, 10 minutes passed and we were seated. Still weren't greeted by our host, rather he just handed us a menu and said he'd be right back. It took him 20 minutes to "come right back" and took our order. Our drinks came out within 5 minutes however 20 minutes after that our food still hadn't arrived. We came from living in the east side of San Jose where there are usually Pho restaurants on almost every corner that take your order and generally bring you your soup within 10 minutes. So at this point I knew something was wrong. I decided to speak to a woman who was handling the check-in table(not sure if she's the owner or manger of the place) and I let her know that my fiancé and I ordered and have been waiting for our food for 30 minutes. She checked her system and advised us that our host had never printed our ticket but that they could start our order right away at this point the restaurant caused us to lose an hour of our time and we weren't even in the mood to eat. I told her it was okay that we'll just pay for our drinks and leave, she insisted on covering our drinks so we left the restaurant after an hour of waiting for nothing. I didn't have too great of a first experience, but we did drop in 20 minutes before they closed. In the defense of my review, I did ask what time their kitchen closes and that if they were done cleaning, we'd come back next time. There were 3 employees standing at the counter and they all said it's OK. There were other people in the restaurant as well. The service pushed my initial review to 2 stars. Excellent and attentive service - that's hard to find in San Jose for some reason. The FOOD: I ordered the Rare Steak and Tendon Pho. The broth was alright. It had a weird after taste that almost tasted like Windex. I've tasted this before in other Pho restaurants. Can't quite put my finger on what it is so I will stick to Windex! So -1 star. The broth was not as warm as I would have preferred it to be which of course lead to the meat not fully cooking, -1 star. My first bite was of a chunk of tendon and it was cold as hell! I'm assuming they grabbed a frozen chunk of tendon and threw it into the broth which forced the broth too be colder than normal and the tendon to still be a chunky block cold disgusting-ness; -1 star. I will say that since we went near closing time, I will give this place another try and update my review if my 2nd experience is better. read more

I came here for a Vietnamese sandwich. I ordered pork. It was delicious! I thought the meat was tender and everything just came together. I also got a Thai iced tea. So good! I will be coming back. It was lunch time and I saw lots of people eating there. It must be an awesome place to come for lunch. I can't wait to try something else. The place is very clean and play relaxing music. I order the meatball pho, vegetarian spring roll, and egg roll. The broth is different from others pho place cuz it have less fat; I feel it a broth is healthier. However when the pho came out it was warm not hot so when I put my veggies in the broth completely it cool down. I came in at 2:30 so there barely any customers there which is good faster services, but I feel like the pho broth is not heated it up. I love a lot of veggies in my pho so when I ask for more veggies my waiter told me that they have to charge me more :( .I really like the spring roll and the peanut dipping sauce. The main reason: they are clean. You know what I mean by that! It actually looks like a restaurant, and is quaint. They keep the place clean which is a bonus. The food is good that's what also keeps us coming back. Love their spring rolls and grilled pork with shrimp and broken rice. They also have tomato rice* for those who didn't know. I've tried it and enjoyed it, a bit salty but good. It's great comfort Viet food, but honestly no one can beat my fabulous Maya's food. I am really sad to have to drop my rating on this place.... This place is great, food is awesome, and clean.... but service is horrible. We ate there and my parents paid in cash, while me and my husband paid card. I put zero on the "Tip" line because we were going to leave tip on the table and before we could even pull out our wallets, this older lady comes over (NOT the owner) and says loudly and rudely "NO TIP?" and shows me my zero on the credit receipt. I could not believe it. I told her no because we were going to leave a cash tip on the table and she walks away...... I hope the owners talks to her servers about this.... Our first experience w/ Pho Wagon was a little shaky. The service wasn't very good and they disasterized our order. After our favorite Pho place changed ownership we decided to give Pho Wagon a second chance. The 2nd time was better than the first and it's continuously gotten better. I grew up eating pho, and this is the worst pho ever. When we entered, no one greeted us. Waited around until someone finally seated us. There was something in my water cup. If you're a true pho connoisseur DONT EVER GO HERE. They do not skim the fat off the top. The bowl of broth is literally all oil on top. I had to skim the top with my napkin. Disgusting. I walked in with two other people and the servers didn't even acknowledge us until we said something. We were right in front of them too. The only positive is the freshness of the meatballs and what seemed to be the owner. She was very friendly and came to our table to greet us and ask us if we were ok. That gave her an extra star. If you like really oily broth, then go right ahead. Other than that, you won't ever see me here again. read more

I visited Pho Wagon after seeing it listed in the Metro Silicon Valley's "Best of 2015"-list. They listed it as one of three restaurants awarded, "Best Pho" in San Jose, and, because I was interested in a new experience beyond Tofu Com Chay or Tung Kee Noodles, so I thought to give this new place a try. What I discovered, was what I had suspected all along-- those restaurants listed in the Metro Silicon Valley's "Best Of" lists paid for that honor, rather than being awarded these Silicon Valley-wide distinctions based on merit. Much as Yelp offers a paid curation of your business, amending customer reviews and creating a positive rating for a modest fee, the only reason "Pho Wagon" is listed as any sort of "best of" is based solely on the owners of the business paying for positive press. The environment of Pho Wagon is quiet, and dull. The location here, in Willow Glen, is located in a strip mall, and entering into the environment one is struck by the stark emptiness of the concrete lining the parking lot, There are shades drawn waist high all around the restaurant letting in plenty of light so that one may take in the plastic and new fragility of the newly furnished environs, free of character. There are paintings of picturesque Vietnam, although no places drawing to mind any place specific to the owner's and manager's history in the country, of the beautiful moss-flavoured islands dotting the coasts of this sub-tropical country. This setting leaves one feeling empty, uncared for, as though an interior decorator chose the parts of Vietnam they enjoyed the most, without giving any thought to their personal memories of what it feels like to dine in a setting evoking a Vietnamese setting. As for the food...I ordered pickled veggies, spring rolls and a large pho com chay (vegetarian pho). The pickled veggies consisted of radish and carrots crinkle cut, and placed on dull, square and white plates in a vaguely uninterested manner. The spring rolls were fine, although I did find it strange they used the leaves used to flavor the broth INSIDE of the spring rolls, giving it an unexpected bitter taste. The Pho. Supposedly third best Pho in San Jose. The broth was fine, although boring. I would have added pepper and sambal oelek chilies to the broth, but I put faith that, like a slice of plain cheese pizza, the essential qualities of the chef and the kitchen will appear without undue adornments from the customer-- anyway, eating plain food is fun. I /enjoy/ eating plain, cold tofu. This pho, however, was not plain intentionally, this pho, was under-flavoured. None of the extraneous bits of chum which regularly accompany sipping out of the bowl were to be found-- the bits and pieces which an American would balk at eating, and which, I assume, a Vietnamese would understand to eat around, the pieces of fat or flavoured soy that give a broth it's flavor. The tofu was cubed much too large to be considered bite-sized, though it was plentiful. Broccoli is not a traditional Vietnamese food, it's a newly evolved mutant vegetable, so it was fun to discover that being used. The rest of the vegetables were forgettable. Everything was layered appropriately and I did manage to finish my noodles around the same time as my vegetables, leaving me sufficiently stuffed from such a large order. However, there was simply not enough variety available. It's been two days and all I can recall is tofu and broccoli...I'm fairly certain that all of the vegetables I had in my pho I could also find inside of the spring rolls, so I felt as though I was eating the same thing twice and paying three times the price. When I finished my bowl of soup and slurped up the broth, I found myself unsatisfied with the ten dollars I had spent, wishing I would have gone to any other pho place around San Jose State University, rather than shuffling off to Willow Glen, as pho is /supposed/ to be an inexpensive treat, no more than eight dollars, or so... Pho Wagon was impersonal, and unemotional. It left me unsatisfied, and feeling cheated, as this place, on the surface, seems to be a really great place for pho. The staff seemed average, young, as though this was their first or second job. It was boring. They need someone with real Vietnamese restaurant experience to overhaul the dining experience greatly at Pho Wagon, and until then, you should just find the cheapest, dive-iest place you can find for all ou pho needs in Willow Glen. Pho is like a hamburger. I enjoy the burgers from that place that sells'em greasy and cheap, The Burger Bar (http://www.yelp.com/biz/burger-bar-san-jose), and I feel that pho ought to be the same way. There's no way to make a mediocre or average pho or hamburger without leaving your customer feeling bored and unineterested, feeling cheated and hurt. I'm just happy there is a Pho restaurant in Willow Glen so that I don't have to drive to the East Side, Evergreen, Monterey/Senter for Pho! The bowl was good but the meat was a bit fatty/chewy. I'd still go back to try other items off the menu. Service was good too. read more

soooo...the prices at pho wagon are ridiculous. i ordered here while plagued with the flu of all flues because it was close and vietnamese food has always been my go-to comfort cuisine. i didn't even look at the prices because...duh, it's vietnamese food. when i pulled out my wallet to pay, i was flabbergasted and almost a little offended. if i hadn't been so conscious of keeping my yap shut so as not to spread my death germs, my jaw would have hit the floor. i swear i heard my money weep with shame as i handed it over. don't get me wrong, i have no problem paying fair to above average prices for high quality food. but unless they gave that pig a massage and sang it to sleep atop a memory foam mattress every night, there's no way bun cha (with a paltry amount of overcooked, dry meat, some noodles that collectively cost about 10 cents, a pinch of veggies, and a dash of MSG) should come out to $10. unless their broth is flecked with gold (i'm guessing no) and their sandwiches are sought after far and wide by royalty and presidents (they're not), y'all are getting duped. read more

Great place! No pho place in the area and food was good!!! Had chicken and rice while the fam had various Pho orders. Service was friendly and place clean. They have cocktails!!! Woohoo! Definitely would go back. read more

Food was good (and on the pricy side) but didn't live up to the hype. Fast, friendly service but after the food came out, no one came by to refill drinks/check on us. Will not be my first pho choice in the future. read more
