Storefront inside San Pedro Square Market

The business hours on their website say they are closed on Sundays, but when I called to confirm, the guy on the phone emphatically stated that they are open every day, even Easter Sunday in which, sure enough, I was able to enjoy a late lunch here this past weekend. Got the honey walnut shrimp with rice. They deep fry the shrimp in a tasteless batter that makes it somewhat dry, but the quality of the shrimp itself was fine. And the sauce, which is served on the side, was delicious with a balanced flavor, not too sweet. The walnuts added a nice crunch, though nothing special. There was minimal interaction with staff, as I ordered on the kiosk, and when I received the text that it was ready (less than 10 minutes later), my tray was sitting at the front counter for me to pick up for dine-in. San Pedro Square Market has plenty of seating and is a lovely site for having a meal while taking in the casual and inviting atmosphere and live entertainment. I had a good time listening to the sounds of the Hit Collective band performing their music in the outdoor stage on a sunny afternoon.

We randomly stumbled upon this place when we decided to explore San Pedro Square after a protest. I was very excited to find a place that looked pretty authentic. This place is super casual and you don't talk to anyone, you need to use a kiosk to make your order (which I always find very impersonal) but it's super casual here so it's expected. lol. On a positive note the environment here is open, social, and they have a lot of open seating available in the table area. I really like how they have photos available for all of the food items so you can get a visual idea of the food you're ordering. I also like how they have a lot of variety in their menu selections. After scrolling through the large menu I decided to order the Shrimp and Chicken Fried Rice and Shrimp Spring Rolls. Overall the experience is pretty basic but I LOVED the Shrimp and Chicken friend rice lol. For this reason I will likely try another food item like Korean ribs next time (but they were sold out when I went.) It's soo TASTY and the portion they give you is HUGE. I've eaten it 4 different times and I still have about one serving left. lol. I definitely need to get their Shrimp and Chicken Fried Rice again. Unfortunately the Shrimp Spring rolls were very disappointing. (Sorry lol.) They only include one tiny piece of shrimp and it takes up less than 10% of the entire spring roll. I felt like I was eating a veggie spring roll because the shrimp is SO SMALL you can't even see it in the photos. lol. The peanut sauce was good but I've definitely had better as well. The food was ready within 15-20 minutes and they provide a tray to take it to the table. I spent about $43 total because of food was around $39 after taxes. Plus I only tipped $4 because there was no human interaction and I have to pick up my own food + take it to the table. I would've tipped more if I could order from a person tbh. I also noticed the staff is very serious and doesn't smile if that matters to you. (I was starving after a protest march so I didn't mind. lol.) Anyway I would still recommend this spot if you love Shrimp and Chicken Fried Rice and a super casual experience with friends. I'm curious to try some more food here (but definitely NOT the spring rolls lol.)

Overall loving that there is a Pho restaurant in San Pedro Square that is affordable and delicious I would say they are the most requested Dine-in and take out place in the food court! Lots of options to choose from but I feel they lacked the garnish for mint and probably change the option for larger spoons as I found my noodles kept falling off other than that customers service was friendly.

My husband and I visited San Jose for a concert last night and decided to stop into San Pedro Square Market for some dinner. We walked around for a bit to check out the different food options before we decided on PHONOMENAL and it was pretty good. The pricing was fair - I think I paid around $26 not including tip for 2 food items and a drink. The service was a bit odd though, as they only have kiosks that you order at so you really don't interact with the people at PHONOMENAL until your food is ready for pick-up. They have a giant menu that even blocks the kitchen so can't see what they're doing behind the counter. San Pedro Square Market has a ton of seating so we had no trouble finding a table, I like the open food hall concept and it's great for people watching. Not sure if we'll try PHONOMENAL again, but overall, we enjoyed our experience!

Overall this place is good and does a lot of business. Orders are done through a kiosk, but keep in mind this place takes PHO-EVER! I waited almost 40 min for my to go order. Broth was still hot which was nice and the overall flavor was good. The location is inside San Pedro Square Market which gives you other things do to and see while waiting.

15 minute walk from our car at the Center for Performing Arts. This place is located in the San Pedro food court. Went to the kiosk screen and ordered the $18 pad thai with shrimp/chicken and $21.50 bird nest seafood noodles. Text message on my cell phone confirmed our order. 10 minutes later text message confirmed our orders were ready. Lady at the counter asked my name, and showed me my orders. No table service here. Customers takes orders directly to their table in the food court. The pad thai with chicken/shrimp came with exactly four small shrimp with tails still on. After removing the tails, the shrimp were no more than an inch across the curl. Several pieces of chicken, and wife said the noodles were decent. My bird nest seafood noodles came with four small shrimp also, along with a few squid, several broccoli, but predominately celery, in a nest of overcooked noodles. Had to use a spoon to scoop up the cabbage like juice on the bottom, and pour it over the noodles to add more flavor to the noodles. The celery is probably the cheapest vegetable you can get, and they definitely skimped on the shrimp, which were previously frozen and virtually tasteless. The soup at the bottom was delicious, and I didn't have to worry about splashing it on my shirt, unlike my wife who wore a white sweater last time. I came prepared with a dark shirt. Minimal ambiance, self service, mediocre value for what you get, but passable food. Not sure if it is worth a 30 minute round trip walk. One group had a dog with them in the indoor food court, which is in violation of California law. Only thing phonomenal was watching on the overhead TV the Yankees implode giving up 5 unearned runs in the fifth inning of the fifth game of the world series.

pretty avg? in San Pedro, on the more spacious side, lol my default is the shaking beef but it's ehhh? definitely not anywhere close to what you would get at an actual restaurant bottom is chow mein noodles & there's lotsssss of onion & only a little meat big pool of grease at the bottom I never eat the salad on the side bc there's too many flies going around San Pedro for that lol Thai fried rice looked like it only came w two shrimps but there were two more at the bottom really rice-heavy though & the spiciness wasn't mixed very well ordering happens at a kiosk & they text you when it's ready

Tried phenomenal for the first time and it was pho-ntastic (ha ha). I got the chicken Bahn mi which had a lot of toppings and was very tasty. I took a star off because I asked the person at the front if it comes with fried chicken (since it just says chicken bahn mi on the menu) and he said yes but it ended up being grilled chicken. I wanted something light so it ended up being okay for me but they should really update their menu with more descriptions. I appreciate the pictures they have up but the appearance of the their food stall is not very inviting. Maybe they can update their decor and pics a bit.

San Jose downtown food court vibes. The food court is pretty clean and well maintained in the mornings. Phonomenal Vietnamese foods look and tastes pretty decent to me, or at least the delicious $15.95 chicken salad and $7.14 jasmine milk tea that I just had coming back into town. There was an affordable $14.95 chicken curry with rice on the menu too. Good tasting Vietnamese foods. Portions were huge! I don't remember ever eating a $15.95 salad with good grilled chicken at this size. It was enough to satisfy two people, but I finished it. The vinaigrette was perfectly made. Veggies were fresh. I got my order within 5-6 minutes after ordering from one of the three kiosks. First time eating here. Good impression so far. Lady in black dress was doing a great job with phone orders and getting orders ready for customers. Senior staffers are cooking inside the hot kitchen. Looks popular around here. I'll probably revisit next time. They do get a lot of local customers and students buying foods around here.

Their "expensive" sriracha that you are not allowed to have more than one of even if you are with 3 people and ordered $80 worth of food.

I used to come to this place all the time when I lived in downtown. Hadn't been in a while, but was nearby and craving my tried and true Wonton Soup that I've previously left a review about. I was also with 3 friends and we spent about $80 total. After receiving my soup, it did lack all the flavor it used to have. No big deal. Just wanted a couple srirachas to liven it up a bit. I went to the front counter and asked for five sriracha packets as we had four items that could all use a little spice. The man straight up just said no. And so I said, ok, can I have three? He refused citing that sriracha is expensive. And i said sir, can I please have a couple? I like my food spicy and none of the dishes are spicy. He just refused. He gave me one sriracha packet which me and friends had to split amongst $80 worth of food. I looked up the sriracha packet online and it's 6¢ a packet. So if you want to charge 10¢ I'd happily pay it. I like my food spicy. Really turned off with lack of customer service and being told how much sriracha I can or cannot have.

I ordered 3 spam musubi from the menu and they came out quickly, but the rice had hard, undercooked pieces and tasted old. They were also stingy with the sauce. Really disappointing, especially since musubi isn't hard to get right. I basically paid $13.32 for three slices of spam, not cool. I bought a to go order and discover it while I was in the Uber ride. I won't be coming back.

Tiny piece of wrapped spring roll

I door dashed this restaurant. They must think they are delivering to oompa loompas. Everything came in miniture sizes. The 4 spring rolls? Were really 2 cut up in tiny pieces and was wrapped in plastic wrap which made it difficult to unwrap and eat. Tiny cups of broth and small packages of noodles and chicken. They are really trying to cut costs..lol never again.

With friends for the afternoon and we decided to stop into San Pedro square for lunch! This place looked really interested so we stopped by They have kiosks you can order at which makes it easy to browse the menu and place your order. I went the fried rice for my entree and me and a friend split the fried shrimp spring roll thing! Overall, I think food was fine! It took about 10 minutes for everything to came out and in my opinion it was just okay! Maybe I didn't order the right thing but yeah. Would def go back to try other things on the menu

I keep hearing it's an imitation or it's close or it's not the same... it is just another version of a Vietnamese dish; the Nem Nuong roll. BR did not invent it, given they have perfected it. I'd say NNNT did a great job on their version of this dish and the sawce is da Boss and it's pretty good! I am a BR fan myself but this a great Nem roll! 3 for $10 is reasonable. The key difference here is the Nem Nuong is grilled over coals in front of the store. It gives it a nice smoky charrr! They also have the beef sticks which are also very good! Just try it without any bias from BR and I'm sure you will like it, it beats driving to SoCal for some rolls! Cảm ơn !

Unfortunately, this visit left me a bit disappointed. When we walked in on a weekend afternoon, several tables were still dirty from previous customers, which didn't create the best first impression. It also seemed like the staff waited until more people left before cleaning multiple tables all at once, rather than keeping up with them throughout service. The food itself was decent and overall tasted good, but the iced Thai tea was extremely sweet. My mom and I barely drank any of it. I was hoping for a better experience this time around, especially since I had such positive memories of this place.

Each and every time, we left frickin happy as a clam. The menu is simple- there isn't a grand number of 100 dishes, but that just means they have the means to focus on each individual dish as a whole and make it with care- and boy do they. Every dish is so delish, and the pho isn't made with MSG. I don't think anything there is. Sorry to you MSG lovers but I promise this place won't disappoint (if it does I owe all of ya'll a free bowl of Pho). Jokes aside, this little bistro is nestled in The Plant shopping center, one of my favorite plazas to go and probably would be satisfactory if I was a non-local coming for travel. Parking's a little crazy, but that's because everyone goes there. The way it's decorated inside is SO adorable and well-intentioned. You'll love all the cute little trinkets, wallpaper, and lights. The dishes were well-prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented. The overall ambiance was also enjoyable, making it a nice spot for a dinner out. Unfortunately, the experience took a concerning turn at the end of the meal. Our bill came out to $86.42, and I handed my credit card to the waiter. Within seconds (thanks to my card alerts), I received a notification that $103.92 had been charged. When the waiter returned with the receipt, there was no mention of any discrepancy. After waiting a few minutes to see if it would be addressed, I brought it up myself. The waiter appeared flustered and then claimed he had accidentally charged me for someone else's food. That explanation didn't align with the itemized bill I was given, which made the situation feel questionable. He assured me that it would be corrected and that I should see the adjustment in a few days, which I'll be watching closely. Mistakes can happen, but the lack of transparency and the fact that it wasn't proactively disclosed is what left a bad impression. Being overcharged without explanation -- and having to catch it myself -- is not something I expect when dining out. I'd consider coming back for the food, but I'd definitely be more cautious when it comes to the bill.

Final Thoughts: 2.50/5…read more My girlies and I went here for a simple dinner and to try it out. Very Asian fusion, specifically French-Vietnamese. Seems fine-ish dining vibes with the dim lights and modern interior that they have. While the whole experience itself was quite nice, the food is not the best and perhaps should still be in the works. It leans so much on trying to be Asian fusion, but the execution isn't there yet for me. Will push the 3 star today given the overall experience we had. Food: Prime Rib Phở (NO MSG): 3.0/5 This was the entrée that we shared. They give around 3 to 5 pieces of meat, which isn't the most ideal thing to see. The meat is tender though, so that's a plus. Given the cut of it, I really wouldn't expect anything less of this though. Speaking of see though, the presentation lacks a lot for me. There wasn't too much color in the bowl. Really just broth, the noodles, and the meat placed on top. Essentially that's all it is, but there's no pop of anything to it. The flavor of the broth is quite good though. It's a lighter, but deep flavor. Will attribute this to some kind of bone meat that they used versus loading it with MSG. The noodles were overcooked and more on the soft side for me. Not much of a bite overall. Grilled Pork Spring Rolls: 1.5/5 This was really underwhelming for me. The grilled pork was nothing extravagant. Crispy eggroll wrapper roll inside was stale. Lacking in body and shape. Each of the rolls were really small and thin and lacking a lot of the filling. Usually I find that other places will overstuff it with vermicelli and vegetables because those are the more inexpensive ingredients in the roll. Here, the proportions were balanced in a sense, but lacking in size. Their sauce is what gets me. I can understand the experimentation, but I do prefer the typical sauce that is used. Perhaps doing a variation of this sauce may be better versus changing it to a completely different sauce. This sauce was a spicy kaffir lime leaf sauce and the tartness and sour flavor just overwhelmed the whole dish, so it became less appetizing for me. Belgian Fries: 3.5/5 These were honestly my favorite item here. Umm...I can't say they're anything extravagant. They were super crispy and the right size for me. Some potato without being too starchy on the inside. The sauce is a truffle aioli and that was truly the star of the show. Most of the rating will be regarding the dipping sauce. It was very rich and the flavors were very balanced. The combination of the truffle with the garlic flavor contributes really well to the dish. Honestly comparable to Cajun fries. Shrimp Mango Ceviche: 2.0/5 Fourth item was also not my favorite at all. The curing sauce was just so tart and sour that it took so much away from the dish itself. Aesthetic wise, was very underwhelming. In my opinion, this would have looked better served inside of a rounder bowl?? versus a shallow plate. The plate just makes it look half eaten given the serving size. The chips were just chips, so nothing extravagant. Balance of shrimp to vegetables appears appropriate though. --------- Quality: Fresh The food items did come out hot. The fries were crispy. They claim their pho broth takes hours to make and I can only take their word from that. Waiters and waitresses seem genuine, so I shall trust them on that. Food appears to be fresh, so no concerns here. Price: Quite steep; $$$ The prices here are quite steep. With what I was served, the prices seem to lean more on the expensive side. I can understand that some ingredients are more pretentious, but I really can't say I would pay this much for what was served. Range is around $8 to $16 for smaller dishes and $20 to $40 for the entrees. Service: Amazing; A+ The service that we were provided today was amazing. The waitress and waiters are very nice and super attentive. They checked on us a few times after all the foods came out and refilled our waters as needed. When we were deciding what foods to order, they were also really patient in going through some of the food choices with us. Ambiance: Fine dining vibes The space really isn't that big and there are really only a few tables inside. The space is big and the ceilings are high, which again, leads me to feel that this place has the fine dining vibes. Interior is quite dim lit and has this calming and warm vibe to it. Location/Parking: Downtown Area/Parking Downtown San Jose is probably all I need to say for people to understand what I mean. IFKYK kind of a deal. I can't say the location is in a bad place per se because it is around this line of other restaurants and stores. The parking is terrible though and perhaps you will find yourself paring at the parking structures for a more affordable cost or a closer one for a more expensive price. The parking lot I chose is free for the first 90 minutes and then they start charging. For one of the closest parking lots, my friend paid $20+ for her ticket.

It is a tiny restaurant nestled in between CVS and another business, I forget what. But there is a tree blocking their signage and the additional small stand-up sign barely draws enough attention to the location. Restaurant is small, but the service is prompt and friendly. You order through a QR code on the table and all mobile devices ordering from the same table will have their orders consolidated. Beef Udon stir fry is tasty, but as many have said, on the sweeter side. Loooooove the texture and chew of the udon noodles. Very springy, almost like korean rice cakes or gnocchi. Sake chirashi bowl was delicious too. Would be nice if the wasabi was on the side. My daughter loves sashimi but can't handle when the wasabi touches the fish. Too spicy for her. Freshness of the fish is good. It's not the luxury cut of salmon, but the quality is still very worthwhile. Can't go wrong with Cali Roll, sweet potato fries, and spring rolls (fried egg rolls). Kids gobbled them right up. My bestie also ordered a sizzling plate which she finished just as quickly. Definitely RECOMMEND this spot for small get togethers, party of 5 or less. They may not have much in sushi variety, but what they dish up, they serve with pride with modest prices. Cheers to the sweet woman who gave our kids lollipops after their meal. Very family friendly.

The location is somewhat buried in the mall, and you have to look for it. The ambience is simple, and a bit dark, probably because the location is buried in the back of the mall, but its very clean and organized and not cluttered. The people and service is good. Pretty basic but friendly. I first came here to have Chicken Katsu. It was flavorful and the meat was tender. The sauce hit the spot and and satisfying. I plan to go back and try their sushi and ramen. The location is close to my home, which is a bonus for me. They are typically not very busy, i believe because most customers get their food to go. I did notice a lot of to go orders. Overall I think this place has great Asian food and great service. I plan to trey other dishes to get a better sense of their overall food experience.
