First off, the service was amazing like always, but sadly that was the only thing that was good. I've been going to Piatti for years and now they've changed the whole menu and not for the better. The market martini was one of my all time favorite drinks and it was taken off the menu. I was disappointed on this choice for sure. My absolute favorite dish, the Lemon Ricotta Ravioli used to be amazing, but now it is absolutely horrible. I couldn't even eat one bite from the dish. I was so disappointed. I'm all for change, but at least make it better not worse. The butternut squash soup was also another favorite and it was good, but was room temperature so it was not as good as it usually is. I was so let down and sad because this was one of my favorite spots and now I don't think I'll be back. The newly reopened restaurant is beautiful and functional. Awesome decor and the wait staff are amazing. The lunch menu has changed. They now charge for the focaccia bread, which was not an issue, the new bread recipe is something I would expect to find at a cheaper pizza joint or a grocery store. It was not good, something we always looked forward too. The lunch entrees have changed. I personally miss the roasted chicken , not available anymore. I had short rib sugo served on pappardelle , it was very good. My wife ordered the eggplant fries served with two dipping sauces. She enjoyed the item . My wife used to get the spinach salad which is not available anymore. She missed that item . In the future I don't see this restaurant on our top ten list anymore. Ok I have ordered two times from Piatti on GrubHub recently and each time our meals have been outstanding. I am going to keep it real, I didn't like Piatti's back about at least eight years then I just stopped going. But I have a policy to check back in to a place eventually, and so glad I do. We had a large group dine here for lunch after a mid day wedding. The service was great here & our waiter worked his butt off keeping everybody happy. It's becoming a disheartening experience to eat out nowadays- especially if you're in the food business. I just want to go out, enjoy a glass of wine, a nice meal (that I don't have to cook), and chill. Piatti at the Quarry caused more angst than anything else last Saturday evening. My husband reserved a table for 7pm for which we arrive 10 minutes 'til. We were led to a table that bordered a very busy thoroughfare for both waitstaff and diners. Think intersection of 281 and 1604. Not wanting to face the possibility of being bumped, or feeling compelled to "scootch in" every time someone passed by, we opted to sit next to, instead of across from, one another. That would've been okay if we both weren't almost 6 feet tall and squished in between the table and the patrons behind us. We waited about 10 minutes for our waiter to bring us water. When he finished pouring he said, "Take your time with the menu." I let him know we've had more than enough time waiting and were ready to order right away. We did, both opting for their Italian dinner set: a small salad, a pasta entree, and their tiramisu. I also ordered a St. Eddy cocktail. We waited for the cocktail to arrive and were plagued by the incessant squeal of a door hinge that was obviously in desperate need of maintenance. Imagine someone pinching apart the opening of a filled balloon- that high-pitched squealing sound- every. single. minute. With waiters coming in and out from the patio it became the soundtrack to an dining experience that was growing more annoying by the minute. When our caesar salads arrived, I was perplexed as to who exactly was paid to make them. Literal half heads of romaine still sopping wet with water were plopped onto an oblong plate, a kraft American cheese-like square of parmesan cheese thrown over it and some croutons chucked onto the side was what their garde manger considered a plate presentation. That would've been all well and good, if: 1) the salad was on a plate that made cutting possible or 2) the salad actually tasted of something other than water. Neither was the case. Cutting the romaine, which you HAD to do in order to eat it, was an exercise in futility as every move you made resulted in a crouton or lettuce leaf being catapulted onto the table. I gave up after having only eaten one bite. Even my husband, a retired Soldier who ate dirt covered-food and MREs for a good portion of his enlistment grew impatient with the dish. We passed it to the other side of the table and waited for our entrees. The waiter did recognize the uneaten salads and asked if we would like him to bring us another salad. We laughed when he offered us a "wedge salad". We were good with wedges of crap at that point. He told us our entrees were due out shortly. When "shortly" morphed into "30 minutes later" we asked a passing hostess to see if she couldn't bring us our check. We hadn't seen the waiter since he promised us food a half-hour ago, after all so she was the next best person. The manager came by, attempted to get us to stay, but at that stage of the game it wasn't going to work. Anything from that point on we would've been hyper-critical about. We were jaded with the entire situation and just wanted to leave. He comp'd the only thing we did have, our Pellegrino and the cocktail- which was actually very good. Tart, citrusy and floral. The only highlight of our visit. We left and had "dinner" at Amy's, instead. I don't know that I'll return. I know one thing's for sure, and that's that their caesar salad needs to be revamped and diners need to stop allowing restaurants to pawn their prep work off on them. read more

I actually like going to Piatti at the Quarry. But ... this was just an okay experience. I had reservations and was greeted very friendly and promptly seated. Our server probably needed more training (I will leave it at that), the Carpaccio had too much red wine vinegar (should have been a drizzle of lemon juice, at least that is what we use in Italy), and my steak was medium not medium rare (yes I could have sent it back but the flavor was there so I kept it). Now on the bright side the pasta dishes were good and the bread was warm and tasty. I will probably go back but honestly won't be my first choice. I am hoping that they will revamp their menu as it has been the same for a long time and go with either newer Italian dishes or more traditional Italian recipe dishes. read more

The food menu itself changed drastically: their star dish, ciopinno, which used to have clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, spinach, and salmon in saffron lobster broth was replaced with tilapia in tomato sauce! And while the recipe cheapened, the price went up from $28 to $30. Their lunch menu used to have an outstanding grass fed beef hamburger which is simply gone. We went about 4pm. We were scurrying around the Quarry doing little last minute things before we start vacation. So we were hungry. Piatti's was right there. We both ordered the cannelloni. Three good-sized pasta tubes stuffed with a lobster-crab mixture, served in a tomato cream sauce. Really good. We started with 'small' Caesar salads, complete with an anchovy and a sheet of Parmesan laid on top with croutons. I thought $10 was a bit pricey for the side salad, but it was tasty. The complimentary sourdough bread and oil and herbs is pretty good to start you off. Diet Coke is $3. All-in-all, the food is very good and well-located. Go there. 12/0917 I think we will stick with their pasta. We both had the Parmesan-crusted flounder with broccolini. It was good, but something was missing. Maybe a cream sauce or something like that would have jazzed it up. It just seemed a little dry, not the fish, just overall. For dessert we had creme brûlée and a Piatti coffee. Yesterday I had the bolognese which was delicious and very meaty. The larger size it's only a few dollars more and fed me fine last night and lunch for me and my boyfriend today. There yankee shared the hazelnut cheesecake which was good and I am not a big cheesecake fan and the tableside s'mores. I don't think I can find anything wrong with this place except for a couple of minor things. The food is DELICIOUS though!! I mean the mashed potatoes on my plate, I literally come back for. $22 plate just for the mash the chicken and veggies are great too tho! The only thing I would say, is they didn't have kids crayons for the doodle papers they gave them. Also, there was an odd smell half the time we were there. Like old wet, dirty rags sitting in dirty water. (I know bc I used to work in the restaurant business.) it was a pretty intense smell. Not sure if someone left it somewhere nearby but it started as soon as the food came out. I was grossed out. We took our mom for her 94th birthday yesterday! I had previously made reservations to sit outside, and the weather was perfect. The menus were even printed with "Happy 94th Birthday!" My sister and her husband had not ever dined here, as they just recently moved to SA. They loved Piatti! Two of us had salmon, one had Tilapia Marsala, and one had Chicken Farfalle. All delicious, along with Bibb and Caesar salads that we shared. Don't forget to order the right out of the oven ciabatta and dipping sauce! There was a nice wine selection, and the birthday girl received Tiramisu complete with fireworks! Our server, whose name I don't recall, was excellent! Witty, and attentive! Probably one of my favorite eateries in san Antonio! Decided to have a much needed date night, and was craving Italian. Arrived at about 8 pm and was seated immediately, very nice romantic atmosphere and the greeter was polite. My boyfriend chose the Cannelloni which was filled with lobster and crab meat, very rich, but not overbearing. Me on the other hand kept it simple and went with my favorite the Farfalle, that came with chicken, sundried tomatoes, and topped with a parmesan cream sauce. We took a ride share up to the Alamo Quarry Market to join the fun with SATX Yelpers Emanuel and Julia at Paciugo Gelato for a scheduled YSB WTMC Event. Along the way, our ride share driver took us through a "scenic route" through the Alamo Quarry Market where I was eagerly taking note of the stores and restaurants about. I was already thinking about what to eat for dinner even before having our dessert when I noticed Piatti while we were stopped near a traffic intersection. After we happily indulged in the luscious flavors of Paciugo's frozen treats, we walked back down to the first block where we had seen Piatti. Being that it was around 6PM on a Saturday, Piatti's was already crowded with folks celebrating Happy Hour or having early dinner. We didn't have reservations but the friendly host asked us if we'd be willing to be seated at one of their bar's hightop tables. Happy hour ran from 3:00 - 6:30PM at the bar so we were able to take advantage of drink and appetizer specials. Our server was very personable and hospitable as she came to take our beverage and food orders. She refilled our waters a couple of times while we perused the menu. My husband, myself and our traveling companion noticed Piatti's Pasta Dinner Special which consisted of a small salad, small pasta and tiramisu for $24. Considering that a small dish of pasta cost $13 and salads cost between $7 - $10 if ordered à la carte, this pasta dinner special is a deal! Coming from Hawai'i, I don't think that we've ever seen such a great deal so we took the chance. There were 5 choices of salads and 7 choices of pastas to choose from (selections were identified by an asterisk). When our small salads arrived, we questioned the portion size as being incorrect. We each got a fairly large bowl of salad of our choice. The vegetables were crisp and refreshing while the salads were dressed just right without drowning out the crispness. Then, the pastas arrived...Yow! The portion was huge, too. We were thinking that if these portions are "small", we were certainly glad that we didn't order full size meals. Not only were the portions huge, the flavors were on point and pastas were al dente. By the time our desserts arrived, we were all pretty stuffed and have been made believers about the saying "Everything's bigger and better in Texas"! This restaurant has an ambiance that is upscale, family friendly. Service was amicable and highly attentive without being intrusive. The quality of food was impressive as well as the flavors. Prices are reasonable considering the large portions they serve....Great Value! If we lived in the area, we'd consider making Piatti our go-to family Italian restaurant. read more

Cute Italian Restaurant... On our way to Paciugo, we had noticed it and since we were away from downtown I wanted to try something different more like local. Luckily my traveling buddies were down for that. We went in and was asked if there was reservation. We didn't but they asked if we wanted to sit on high bar tables. I didn't mind. They have happy hour from 3:00pm to 6:30pm so we ordered got drinks and vegetable tempura thing to share. I noticed on the menu they had a pasta dinner which comes with (choice of salad, choice of pasta and tiramisu) all for $24!!! Wow.. sweet deal! I got the spinach with mushroom salad, and a pesto penne pasta. Man when the salad arrived I was surprised it was bigger portion.. The salad was huge. I noticed on the other parties that their lettuce wasn't chopped! My spinach and mushroom salad had the reading "tobacco" in the ingredients and silly me goes WHAT!!! Thankfully the knowledgeable person on the table told me that's not what it is! I liked my penne pasta.. pesto and penne my two favorite things together! I can't hate this... Tiramisu was good. "Everything is bigger in Texas" I guess happy belly and happy wallet! I may have put too much chili flakes in my pasta and I just started tearing, didn't help the same time I was reading a text I was mad about. Phew! How embarrassing! For years Piatti had the absolute best Caesar salad but no longer. Like many other restaurants, they now chop up the romaine and drench it in way too much dressing. The shrimp scampi was decent but did not make up for the lousy wine on the happy hour menu or the salad. Wow! Piatti serves an amazing chicken parmesian. It's as simple as that...the food was packed with flavor and the service was top notch. Stopped by for a Saturday lunch and even though it was a packed house, our table was waited on promptly and food was top tier. This chicken parmesian is probably one of the best I have ever tasted and the garlic butter noodles were a perfect pairing. The bread and fresh olive oil dipping are also amazing and a must try. Prices are a bit higher than most lunches, but it is well worth it for the flavor and service. Awesome music with a variety of modern and classic hits! Can't comment on the dinner menu. The service was good as always. The ambience of old was a somewhat bustling classic slightly dark elegant place that invited you to linger, no more. Now the redone ambience is brighter more open , think strip mall chain restaurant, elegant? Hardly, and the new entrance is not better than the the old and the pasta and items for sale seem meager and the space seems poorly used. It's a shame to have redone the restaurant and implement a new menu but have management that can't even remember to write down a reservation, made well in advance. Upon arrival, with our group, there was no reservation, no apology, and no concern on anyone's part to try to work something out for us. There now will be "NO RETURN" on our part! Honestly, it doesn't matter how good a restaurant looks if you lack in customer care. San Antonio has plenty of quality restaurants that actually care about their customers. Went last night, Friday. We had a large group, so I saw a variety of menu items. None were very good, I'm sorry to say. They were out of the ricotta dumplings, so I got the Fetuccini. It was a very tiny portion, less than Olive Garden, it had been sitting under the heat lamp too long, as it was not creamy, more like it was coagulated. It's crazy to pay over $20 for a tiny bowl of pasta and not get a salad or bread!!!! We ordered the $5 focaccia. It was soft and good, but not what I was expecting for focaccia. The best thing was the dipping oil. The fried chicken soltinbocca was a big piece of chicken, on top of green beans. Both people said it needed a sauce of some kind. After requesting something, the server brought a dish of mashed potatoes? and a lemon gravy? All of the other pasta dishes were very small, lacked any needed sauce. They had a great crowd, unfortunately I'm afraid everyone left feeling the same. I heard the manager say they were trying different menu items. My daughter lived in Italy and we travelled there often and I will not say it's exactly as you will find in Italy, but if you are in the mood for pasta I would go here.
