Focaccia bread is no longer served as a part of the meal ... it costs. Well ok! We had drinks quickly. Loved the Böen pinot. The Paloma was a good mix but one long, single ice cube took up 80% of the glass. At these prices, the amount should not be skimpy. No bueno. The app of olives was warm, garlicky, and plenty. However, they left the pits in the olives .. weird! The Alfredo pasta with a zest of lemon was a very small bowl for $22. The Alfredo had no parmesan flavor .. it was basically cream and butter. We wanted to check out the renovation at Piatti's and their new menu. Late Sunday lunch with reservations. We arrived on time and we're seated promptly. I was sad to see that the old atmosphere that once could pass for a friendly trattoria, has now been transformed into a cross between a California fern bar and a restaurant. The lunch menu wasn't very ambitious. No complimentary bread and oil anymore. We tried the Focaccia. I was just OK. I've never seen Focaccia baked in a loaf before. My wife ordered Lemon Ricotta ravioli and I the Rigatoni Bolognese. Both we hot and flavorful. Our waitress ran down a list of deserts and we settled on splitting donut bites and coffee. The coffee arrived promptly and the donut bites 25 minutes later. The donut bites were more of a sugared puff ball with powdered sugar. Meh. I miss the old Piatti's. To my surprise, the restaurant has completely changed everything. These changes aren't necessary for the best. The entrance is in a different location. It's not as fancy as the previous layout. . The menu has changed completely. All our favorite dishes have been removed. The layout is very provincial and not even traditional Italian. The aerea for the bar has been extended. They are catering to a different demographic, and it has changed the atmosphere. Instead of being a restaurant with a bar, it feels like a bar with a small extension of tables. There are fewer tables to experience a sophisticated dining experience. The food was below average for the price. The only positive was the staff. They were extra friendly. We liked this place so much that we went back three times in the space of three weeks. We just had to take everybody we knew there. The best part of this place is the sourdough bread and oil and vinegar dip. It is not complimentary (but it's infinitely affordable at $3), but it is well worth the price. The bread comes out super-hot and the oil and vinegar is amazing! They clearly use top-quality oil and balsamic vinegar, but they also add some seasoning and it is all so tasty. We are clearly not the only ones who think so, either, since they sell it by the bottle to take home with you (although they were sadly sold out on all three of our visits). My complaint with most Italian places is the lack of variety. I can't eat tomatoes, and usually, there is only one option on the menu without red sauce and it is chicken alfredo. This place bucks that trend, too, with a delicious lemon cream sauce and a sumptuous parmesan cream sauce. They are also very accommodating and will put any sauce on any dish you wish. I took advantage of this by substituting the parmesan cream sauce on their rigatoni and it was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten. My wife got the Bibb salad on two of our visits because she liked it so much. It is an entire head of Bibb lettuce and has the very unique preserved lemon dressing and an incredibly generous helping of goat cheese. We also tried the Parmesan-crusted chicken breast, Baked goat cheese, and Penne with walnut-arugula pesto. Everything is amazing and the bill is always surprisingly inexpensive. I had never been, but I've heard the food was really good so I tried for myself today and it was beyond good. It was amazing. It was fantastic. It was above what I expected. Almost as if they had kept the bread in a cooler and threw it in a microwave. It came out wet and largely unappealing. The cannelloni had a lobster and crab filling. This was served in a white wine sauce with capers and tomatoes. This was the better of the two dishes. However, the turn off to this dish were the little bits of shell that came with it. It's rare that I have to space out my bites so cautiously. This could make a fantastic dieting method but not a pleasant dining experience. I had been really excited about the fruta de mar shrimp, calamari, white fish, clams, mussels and...spicy lobster? Unfortunately, this dish wasn't spicy but it was very...very crunchy. I kept getting pieces of clam and other sharp inedible bits mixed in the sauce. The calamari and shrimp were overcooked so they came out more rubbery than anything. Side note: If I was being overly positive, I could say "the dish offered a myriad of textures." As my stomach is still bubbling and I'm not one to sugar coat anything, that approach doesn't work for me. The Aftermath: My stomach has been hurting for hours. Tried peppermint candy, peppermint tea, Alka Seltzer, etc. Yelp reviews gave this place 4 stars but I strongly disagree. The only thing 4 star about this experience was the price. We should have sent our plate back after the first few bites, but it was late and we didn't want fast-food. I'm sure this place has it's fans, but I would've preferred Chef Boyardee. It's a sad day when I give one of my favorite nostalgic childhood restaurants a bad review. Piatti was a neighborhood mainstay for most of my childhood where we would come for delicious dependable Italian food. It was easily my favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio. When I heard that it was being renovated I was both excited and nervous. I was excited to see such a great restaurant getting a facelift but nervous that the restaurant's decor might not be the only thing being changed. What I didn't know was that the restaurant was also changing owners and was going to open back up with an entirely new menu that has retained almost none of the original menu items or recipes. The first time I visited after the ownership change I was disturbed to find out that one of my favorite restaurants was no longer itself at all. The warm and crispy ciabatta bread that used to be served was replaced by cold stale focaccia (that you must pay for now), the ravioli was stiff, too thick, and unbalanced in flavor, and most disappointingly, my favorite dish that I ordered each time I came to Piatti (the Alfredo with sundried tomatoes and grilled chicken) was replaced with a bland and milky fettuccine Alfredo that was mediocre and bland. I have returned twice more to give the new place a fair chance and unfortunately I had the same mediocre experience both of those times too. Although the new restaurant may be beautiful, the new menu and ownership change has caused a sharp decline in food quality. The new owner has responded to many negative reviews here on yelp with the same response stating that the new "streamlined" menu is meant to showcase "their house made pastas and new signature flavors" that focus on "quality and authenticity" but unfortunately the new menu and the new owners have missed their mark on all of the above. If you're focusing on high quality and authentic pasta, make sure it's well made first, not thick and chewy sometimes and overcooked others. The new owner should probably take a step back and realize that quality has fallen since taking over the restaurant and try to get back some of the old recipes that made Piatti such a San Antonio favorite before it was ruined. Don't waste your time with Piatti anymore, just go to Nonna Osteria downtown. If it's not broken, don't fix it. read more

Piatti has always has great food but I'm writing this review because Piatti has introduced me to heaven in the form of pappardelle with bolognese sauce. It's a staple dish that's both simple and complex and Piatti nailed it. The pasta was made from scratch (or at least it tasted that way) and the sauce was so flavorful. 10/10 recommend! read more

I was excited to see that Piatti's has reopened after their remodel. While the new design is nice, the charm and upscale yet cozy feel has disappeared - something I always appreciated and looked forward to for special occasions. The new outdoor patio is nice. I looked forward to their famous peach bellini but that has been removed from the menu. Tried a new cocktail from their craft drink menu - a Piatti Spritz - aperol, prosecco, aromatic bitters, sparkling rosé. It was good but strong! For lunch, I was looking forward to the spinach ravioli but that has been replaced with a Lemon Ricotta Ravioli. It was decent but didn't have the same house made pasta feel or taste. We also tried the new Sicilian Chicken sandwich. It was great! The new focaccia bread was nice. Overall, the menu has changed to a lighter fare - a departure from the classic Piatti's menu. I've been a patron for the last 20 years. I'm not feeling the new menu which isn't the Piatti's I know and love. I'll wait a few months and see if they bring back any of their classics but overall felt disappointed in my experience today as it feels like a downgraded version of what it once was. What a total disappointment! Lunch for 2 of us last Friday was over 110$, which included a vodka tonic I sent back to the bar after one sip. I am still so sad about the new Piatti and super annoyed about our experience & bill! Service was horrendous in a restaurant with maybe 3 tables being served at around 2 pm. We had to ask the waitress to bring water, then flag her down to take our cocktai order, then wave her over to take our meal order, and same with the check. We waited 10 mins to cash out at the table! Most of the staff mingled at the bar area during the entire time we were there. A family of 5 was seated right next to us when the entire restaurant was 90% empty. Seating is so crammed we could barely hear ourselves think once our neighbors arrived. Notes: -There is a sewer smell that hits you as you walk into the dining room. I really hope that isn't permanent, but I have read reviews from weeks ago that mention the same smell. -While waiting on water and our waitress, we were asked by a random server if we wanted bread. Expecting the traditional (complimentary) delicious Piatti bread and dipping oil, we nodded yes--but it was like a bad knockoff of Carrabbas sourdough (but soggy and cold) bread now with bland oil with an up charge of $4 (we didn't know that until presented with the bill). -Our waitress wasn't able to identify which drink was a French 75 or a v&t when she brought them to our table 20 mins after we had arrived. The V&T had a taste like I've never experienced--something was VERY off, so I sent it back. It wasn't removed from our bill. -A tiny mediocre pizza, a bland Caesar salad ("do you want the fish on that?"--waitress), a glass of wine with the worst service and sewer smell does not equal a $110 lunch. No. -The menu has replaced all the old favorites with items that don't sound appetizing or had multiple bad reviews (we started researching reviews after waiting 10 mins for cocktails)...we should've left at that point. **I really hope management is reading all of these social sites full of recent negative reviews. We really really want Piatti to turn it around!! We loved the old Piatti!** Also--the renovations that added an awkward retail area in the entrance/exit to buy fresh pastas, coffee table books about Italy and who knows what else--we just wanted to get out of there. It looked like something we'd see in a tourist trap off Michigan Ave or in Times Square. What in the world? What an enormous amount of wasted real estate. Piatti has long been one of my favorite restaurant staples in the city of San Antonio! Use to be a weekly dine-in customer, until the recent closing of the Piatti at the Eilan location. Come to find out, the Piatti at Quarry has re-opened after a recent renovation and with much delight I had to visit. Below are some internal insights of what to expect, keep in mind this is my personal opinion. Food: My dish (Ricotta Dumplings) was a bit cold and too doughy. Don't be fooled by the looks of the prosciutto either, it was not fresh and seemed like it was sitting out on a counter aging badly. Housmade Foccacia (Bread and Oil) was probably the best food item ordered. Softer than usual and dipping oil seemed to be identical as the previous one. Overall food rating 3/10 Atmosphere: Great ambiance and aesthetically pleasing. 8/10 Will not be returning and will miss the old Piatti. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant since they opened. Our recent visit was for an early dinner on Valentines Day. They seated us at a high top by the bar (we HATE high tops for dinner service). When I asked for a normal table the hostess said "we are fully booked tonight" I stated, that we have a reservation and there are a lot of empty tables available seeing it is 5:45. She had to go back to the host stand and "see if she can work something out for us" (sheesh). We got a normal table 5 feet from the original one. The menus is new, but had a number of similiar dishes that are served at other places in town. We started with a bottle of wine, bread and olives. The olives were served warm and seasoned. For entrees my wife ordered the Short rib sugo and I ordered the Chicken Puttanesca. The Sugo was super rich and thick, as if the sauce seemed over-reduced- my wife only ate about 25% of the dish. My chicken was an airline cut that was cooked well, but the accoutrements were not very savory or harmonious, it almost seemed like a deconstructed dish. Nonetheless, the AGM stopped by to chat and he was very nice. I understand having to change your meu after 20 years, but they had a lock on many of those dishes in the city. I also forgot that I had boycotted them before because they were charging an across the board 3% surcharge for staff PPE, but that was under the previous GM. I may be back, but Piatti is no longer my wife's favorite Italian restaurant in town. read more

This restaurant has a great feel! The entire ambiance is "fancy restaurant with a family vibe" and we loved it. The sourdough ciabatta and fried calamari were both great choices for appetizers. The sauce that came with the calamari was the perfect combination with the seafood. We honestly didn't leave a crumb! Our table had the zucchini pasta (amazing sauce!!), tagliatelle, margarita pizza, and salmon entrees. Everything was seasoned to perfection! The only negative thing I have to say about the food came about from the desserts. We had the tiramisu, which had too much frosting and not enough liqueur flavoring. -First time eating dinner here since the new renovations. While the new look and atmosphere is absolutely great, my party and I were highly disappointed in the new menu. All of our usual favorites have been replaced. I understand updating some things but to completely switch up the entire menu doesn't seem like the best option. We came to this place to have dinner at their patio, it was a cool night but they have heaters, their patio is small but lovely and they follow social distancing recomendations. The service was quick and friendly, from the hostess, the server and the manager. Everybody was very welcoming and attentive. Their house wine is tasty, and their food is delicious. I had a beef carpaccio that melted in your mouth and the pappardelle bolognese was so comforting. They did not bring us bread but we asked for it and it is not complimentary any more but it is worth it, it comes with dipping oil. We also tried their tiramisu and it was great. This was my first time at the Alamo Quarry Market. After I finished shopping, I was hungry so I said I would try something new. My favorite food is Italian so I went to Piatti. I sat in the outside patio. My waitress was Isabelle and I asked her about Farfalle Alfredo Grilled Chicken (farfalle is my favorite pasta but I don't like alfredo that much). She said it is everyone's favorite pasta and she said if I don't want the tomatoes, I don't have to get the sun-dried tomatoes. I told her I love tomatoes, she asked if I wanted more sun-dried tomatoes and I said yes! She asked if I wanted the half pasta or the full pasta. Full pasta is a better deal if I want to take some home. I ordered full size and I"m so glad I did. The Farfalle Alfredo Grilled Chicken Pasta is the BEST Alfredo Pasta I've EVER Had! Didn't have to add anything to it. The sun-dried tomatoes was a nice bonus. Isabelle was such a great waitress. I went there for lunch and found that it has a very different look than it used to. I haven't been there in a while. The menu is different too. Gone is the goat cheese appetizer that I loved so well. I noticed that they now charge for ciabatta bread which is not flavorful at all. It was pale, stale and not crusty as it should be. They used to have much better bread at no charge. My Caesar salad was made with what looked like old lettuce that was turning brown. It was romaine and mostly the tough stems and not a lot of the leafy parts. The service was good. Our server was nice and attentive. Overall I would say that I am disappointed. It is not the Piatti I knew. I am not inclined to go back with so many other choices that seem to try harder. read more

We havent been to Piatti since the remodel and were very impressed with all the newness. We had made reservations through Open Table, and I'm glad we did, because it was super busy. We were seated right away and our server, Sydney was great. We started with the bread and dip and the beef carpaccio appetizer (our favorite). Both were fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the lasagna and I ordered the tortellini with prosciutto and cream sauce. When my dish was first brought to the table, I was a little taken aback since there were 6 tortellini on the plate. I was thinking "I'm going to leave hungry." I was totally wrong! The tortellini was really good and deceptively filling - I struggled finishing the last tortellini! I had the house chardonnay and it was perfect with my meal. We finished off with a tasty tiramisu and ended up taking half of the lasagna home. Overall, we were really happy with the new Piatti and will be returning soon! read more

Pros - romantic ambience with real candles during dinner - service was great!
