The owners are in the restaurant making sure you're taken care of and attentive to your needs. The food is exceptional especially the deserts which were different than your standard fare. Best meal I've had out in a long time. We had reservations. Parking was tough but after circling the area for a few min we found a spot. We made it in time and we were seated right away. It was crowded and noisy but it was a very nice energy in the place. We started with tapas. We had the Iberico ham, tortilla de patatas and beet salad. I did a team building event about a month ago and we all bought food representing our favorite location we have travelled to, so I ordered the meat and seafood paella for two, morcilla, and the tortilla patata representing Spain. Everything...just...amazing! The Morcilla was pretty interesting looking being black and all, but more importantly it was really tasty...savory and a good portion size for two--would definitely order again. The Patata was recommended and I enjoyed the mild flavor and starchy texture along w the aioli. The star of the show was definitely the Paella. In Spain I found Paella to be really hit or miss--sometimes the rice being too undercooked or overcooked. But the paella from here was PERFECT! Lots of shrimp and mussels and clams. Maybe if anything I would have liked a few more ribs, but it wasn't a big deal. Overall, it was quite an enjoyable meal, and with the quantity of food we got in the Paella order, it lasted us a full second meal too! Definitely worth going back and highly recommended! Its done just right, with the right crusting at the bottom of the pan, excellent use of seafood and combo of sauce with just the right amount of saffron. The ingredients from Picaro are very fresh, especially the oysters, therefore, I think the price compared to SF's standard pricing is super generous! My friends and I were three and we ordered a paella for four. It came as a big portion and a generous amount of seafood on top. I have had two other paella from a Spanish restaurant and a Cuban restaurant before. Picaro's paella is not as flavorful as the other two, sort of plain, for my personal preference. Found this place due to the fact that they have a Sangria happy hour. A pitcher is $14 which is a good deal! Be aware, they are strong but yummy! Comes with a complimentary basket of bread with salsa brava which is so tasty. Ordered a Meats and Seafood Paella to try something new and it was a good choice! The rice was full of flavor and all the meats and seafood were scrumptious as well. The plate was for two people and we got full. The only downside was there were a bunch of little flies which was annoying but other than that, the service was amazing. Be aware of where you park due to the fact that my car was broken into! Picaro is a hidden gem! Great for large groups. Tapas are very reasonably priced. You can generously order tapas with a few carafes of sangria and it comes out to about $35 per person. The paellas are huge. Typically we order a bunch of small plates and get a 2 person paella for a 6 person group. This allows you to taste a lot of different things. I recommend the seafood paella, chicken croquetas, lobster tails, garlic chicken and garlic shrimp. Patatas bravas are a MUST. That sauce on the potatoes is amazing. Honestly, picaro has got to be my favorite restaurant in San Francisco at the moment. It's really easy to see why this place is so busy and packed all the time. The food is absolutely amazing, the sangria is tasty and cheap and the atmosphere is so cozy yet lively. I only wish I got to know this restaurant sooner! If you want a taste of amazing Spanish tapas and paella, you HAVE to come here. Food/Drink: Everything here literally tastes amazing. Even the bread and dipping sauce is amazing!! Everyone at our table wanted to get multiple rounds of bread because it is that good (not even an exaggeration). Most restaurants give you bread with olive oil and balsamic, but picaro uses the same sauce as their patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) to dip bread, which is such a winning combination. For Tapas, we ordered the Tortilla de patata (egg and potato omelet), Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), Champinones al ajillo (mushrooms sautéed in garlic and olive oil), and Croquetas de pollo (Chicken croquettes). They were all so delicious, but if I were to choose one that is a must get, it is definitely the tortilla de patata. Not only is it a traditional Spanish tapa, but it is so delicious and blends so well with the cream on top! 15/10 stars for sure. The Seafood paella was delicious as well! The blend of seafood and spices made the rice and sauce very rich. The paella always comes at the end, so it is a strong end for a delicious meal. The sangria is super delicious, refreshing and sweet! Is is really cheap during happy hour as well, so I definitely recommend getting it. The only down side I had about this restaurant is that the wait can be incredibly long during the dinner time. Me and my friends waited about an hour for our table. Granted, we came with a big party. Spanish sausages :: Very cute little sausages that were full of flavor, yet they were sort of chewy and hard which I didn't enjoy too much, but my hubby loved it. Manchego cheese :: hubby is a cheese lover, but me? Not really unless it's a part of entire cooked meal, but I guess this cheese seemed like any other cheese, so I can't really say much about it. Overall, we were totally satisfied that not only was food and service good, but it wasn't too bad on our wallet either knowing there's alot of other tapas restaurants nearby that are more pricier.
