Loved it! It's truly a small hole in the wall Italian spot! We had made a reservation (which I highly recommend since there's only 6 tables in the whole restaurant) for a Thursday evening at 7pm. The service was excellent and prices were very reasonable. We started with the Caesar salad and got the chicken parm and black linguine with shrimp as entrees. The shrimp were massive and the pasta was cooked very well. The chicken parm was so thin and tender and the sauce was not overly salty. For dessert, the tiramisu melted in our mouth. It's a BYOB restaurant with a $5 corkage fee as well. I am eager to come back and try different dishes next time. Great spot for an intimate date night or catching up with friends. read more

This is a hard one to write, because taste wise and charm - great! It's a super cute tiny pasta shop, you squeeze through the kitchen to get to the bathroom, and the pasta is tasty, albeit the shrimp a little undercooked. But it is NOT SAFE FOR ALLERGIES! I had told the server clearly when picking my dish that I was allergic to garlic and onion. He clarified with me, "So you cannot eat garlic and onion, right?" And I said "Yes, correct." And what did I find towards the end of my meal? Many slices of garlic. He took a sample piece to the kitchen to make sure, and yes it was garlic. Really not great. read more

Don't run back there. Small place trying to stay afloat. Perhaps once it was good. The good reviews on here certainly don't reflect our experience. I had one of their supposed specialties,lobster w rigatoni. Couldn't chew lobster, sauce and pasta nothing special. Partner had some pork dish completely uninspired. Absolutely incredible! Brought my visiting mother here and we both adored it. Making a reservation was super simple, the place itself is very quaint but homey and felt like dining in someone's home. I got the Braciolette and it was unlike anything I've ever had. My mom had the chicken parm, and she is SUPER picky and absolutely loved it. This spot is a great hole in the wall option, but I think it literally sits 15 people so may be hard to get a table or can easily feel too small. But the food is solid, the chicken parm had a great balance of cheese and sauce, and the chicken didn't exactly have the burntness I like but each bite was really nice. Came here with family on last day of weeklong trip to NY, and it was lovely. It's a wonderful, small Italian family restaurant. We sat outside on the covered streetside patio - which was, like the street, quiet and pleasant. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and the owner was our waiter. He was very old world - very friendly, but let us take our time over everything. Everyone's food was outstanding, various starters and pasta dishes cooked perfectly and with goldilocks proportions. Had coffee after and then some of the nicest cannoli I have ever had (and I've had many). Highly recommended if you're looking for a nice Italian meal (or any kind of meal) in the East Village. Wasn't an issue for us, but there's no booze there. You can bring your own wine (which you can get nearby) with a $5 corkage. If you want cocktails have them before (and/or after) at the many nearby bars, as they don't allow hard liquor. read more

I am torn between 4 and 5 stars based on Sunday night's dinner with our friends from Napa. The 1/2 star vacillation is not fixable, as the sheer size of the space will not change without ruining the very things that provide the charm and uniqueness - so I am going to roll with 5 - but I understand others may find the idiosyncrasies less charming than I do. Let's cover the main positives: 1) BYOB with a $5 corkage 2) reservations accepted 3) terrific people 4) the coziest space 5) good food made with love There is seating for 16 guests - and that would truly pack the place. The four-top at the front window is the place to be. The kitchen is an extension from the seating, and you should expect to wash whatever you wear in, as the wonderful aromas of the kitchen permeate every inch of the space (one of those unfixable things). The unisex bathroom is accessible through the kitchen. So while host, owner and chef Esperanza prepares your meal, Willie takes care of everything else, and did a terrific job of it during our visit. I spent a couple of minutes chatting with her at the end of our meal - a really nice lady. I kissed her hand. We had four bottles of wine with our meals, and some chilling was required, so Willie ran chilled wine from the fridge to our table. Over our three hour stay we enjoyed apps - the artichokes were terrific, and a small break before our main course - which included veal scaloppine, gnocchi Bolognese and Osso Bucco. All were terrific. The semifreddo dessert was ok but not inspiring. The most amazing part was that dinner for four, plus corkage -$150. Very cozy restaurant that's nice for a quick after work meal. I got the ossobuco and loved it. The meat was incredibly tender and the sauce was great. The only issue I had was how small the portion was. There was a handful of gnocchis on the plate and I was still so hungry after the meal. Mrs Clerksrat had Penne Vodka and the dude brought the cheese, and while I went home with her, HE BROUGHT THE CHEESE. Myself I had the chicken parm and I won't lie this was legit. Red sauce a bit tangy, the penne on side was ok... but the chicken was legit. Seasoning was so perfect , meat so flat where it was perfect texture. I felt it wAs prepped so well. Honestly this chicken parm is top of city. I honestly only hated I didn't even get penne noodles (I saw a dude get sphaghetti and I was very jealous) they were meh. Overall this place is small but this place is LEGIT. Vodka sauce is insane, chicken is whoa, ambiance is date ready. I didn't get paid crap but I promise you this is a spot you need. We arrived at 5pm on a Sat with a reservation for an outdoor seat only because I was told that was the only seat available a week prior. It was 35 degrees out and windy. The outdoor seating is not protected from the wind or cold. So when I arrived I was expecting to tell them I will not be sitting outside and I wanted to cancel my reservation. But when I walked in there was not one person eating and every table was available. I thought "that's weird he said every seat was booked?" . So I said hello I have a 5 pm reservation for outside but I'd like to eat inside since you have no one in here. He said we could sit inside as long as we are finished by 630. I said hell yeh and sat with my wife happy we got a seat. My wife would not have been happy if we had to leave and look for another place on the fly. The service was great, the gentleman was very good. Wine bottles opened, bread served, and water poured. We where the only people in the restaurant so it was kinda cool. My wife ordered the eggplant rolitini for an app to share. I ordered the oso bucco and she ordered crab cakes for her entree. I was not impressed with any of the food unfortunately. The eggplant was decent and a little to salty. I did not like the flavor of the osso bucco. I was disappointed because there is so many options in the area that we could've went to. My wife said her dish was meh. This is just my opinion of the food. The people where nice and the service was good, I just didn't like the food. read more

First and foremost, note that this restaurant is very small! I believe it's got about four tables and seats probably less than 20 overall. There is a bathroom, but you have to walk through the kitchen to get to it. That being said, the food and service were good! Our waiter kept on refilling our waters and brought out refills of bread when we requested it. The BYOB service is also neat--we brought three bottles of wine. I ordered the gnocchi alla bolognese--the sauce was tasty, but I feel like the maltagliati would have complimented the sauce more/been more filling. My boyfriend and I came here (after seeing a Tik Tok video of someone else who had dined here) and ordered mozzarella In carrozza, carciofini al forno, ossobuco di manzo, and the lobster ravioli. Appetizers were so yummy, especially the carciofini al forno (crispy artichokes in a crunchy cheese coating!). The ossobuco di manzo came with a generous serving of beef, and sauce was divine. I also really enjoyed the lobster ravioli, which I didn't think I would just because I'm not a huge fan of thick cream sauces, but this one was so yummy. Food is phenomenal, but so is the ambience and service. I loved meeting the owner and his wife, both of whom were so kind, and it felt like I was being welcomed into their home and Italian kitchen. The preponderance of positive yelp reviews led us here for dinner but the size of the space nearly drove us away. The size of a rich man's closet, Piccola Strada is a tiny, homely restaurant run by a husband and wife team who serve up some serious Italian fare. To give you some idea of the space, we came in on a weekday night, when there were already two small groups there. Together, they filled the space to 60% of its max capacity and the owner had to apologetically turn us away because the one remaining table was reserved (lesson learned: if you decide to eat here, call ahead). I guess we must have looked pretty sad because he invited us back in on second thought and was nice enough to let our party of three squeeze into a two-seater and dig into our bottle of wine until a table opened up. Did you hear that? OUR bottle of wine. This place is BYOB, with a mere $5 corkage fee. With that, plus a basket of warm bread, and we were off to a good start, even if it meant all of our knees were squashed together a little too intimately under the table. Thankfully, a table opened up in due time and we moved with some relief to a slightly larger round table and started ordering food. We got the Involtini Di Melanzane to start, which is their name for their version of eggplant rollatini. Long slices of breaded eggplant are sumptuously filled with ricotta, parmesan, and spinach, then covered with a hearty red sauce. Though it tasted just fine, you would think a whopping $9 would get you more than 2 tiny eggplant rolls. Our entrees followed, and I heeded the advice of several other yelpers who sang the praises of the artichoke ravioli. One bite in, I was hooked. I missed most of the conversation swirling around me at this point because anything that wasn't artichoke ravioli became utterly uninteresting to me. Each ravioli was filled with a blend of chopped artichokes and ricotta then covered with a rich, luscious, creamy, black truffle sauce. If Lady Manners didn't frown upon it, I would have licked the plate clean. As it was, I dragged several slices of the leftover bread through that ambrosial sauce until the plate became nearly clean enough to serve it to someone else. If I had anything negative to say about the dish, it would be that the pasta was a little stiff, almost as if it were a tad too thick or left to cool for too long before drowned in the magic sauce. We were graciously allowed to stay and finish our wine until closing time, even though we ate our last bites long before then, and our server/the owner provided thoughtful, timely service throughout the meal. If it weren't for the elfin size of the space, as well as the hard-to-swallow price vs. amount for some of the menu items, this would have been an easy five stars. read more

Really delicious place! Came here last night last minute because I didn't feel like trekking to Queens which was where we initially planned to go for dinner. This was a chance find walking to another restaurant that my wife and I have attended going back 20 years. Small and cozy intimate, this place is amazing. I have eating Italian food in so many places and I have to say that this was probably one of the best places I've eaten before. The owner Mario, who is from Genoa Italy was so pleasant to talk to. His wife , who is the cook, is an amazing Latina woman and chef. You must come here! By the way this is a BYOB restaurant so bring your own favorite wine! If you forget you can always call the liquor store and they deliver. Mario has the menu but we diverted and ordered the Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano. With delivery $22.
