So I finally got the chance to try some pizza! The pizza overall was good. I had the white Carbonara pizza, which was really tasty...I added a little balsamic and that took it to the next level. I also loved the presentation; they bring the pizza out and cut it right in front of you straight from the oven, which was a nice touch. I tried a second pizza the Nduja, but it ended up being too spicy for me and I didn't love the flavor, so I switched it up and ordered the meatballs instead. The meatballs were seriously so good. They reheated really well and the polenta purée at the bottom with the cheese on top brought everything together perfectly. I'd definitely recommend the meatballs as an appetizer. We went to Piccolo Buco for the first time for my husband's birthday dinner, we made reservations well in advance which I would suggest doing because the restaurant was packed. We were seated within about 5-10 minutes, the space in the restaurant is filled to the brim - the tables throughout the restaurant are setup so there truly is just enough space for the servers to get through to take care of their tables and the restaurant gets very loud, I'm assuming it's because so many people are crowded into this size of a space, because it's not like any tables were intentionally being loud or obnoxious. While that part wasn't necessarily my favorite aspect of this newer location in Tampa, our waitress, Day (not sure I'm spelling her name right) was fantastic. We have a very picky 8 year old and also a 10 month old and she went above and beyond not just for my husband and I, but also to make sure our kids were pleased with their meals and gave us great recommendations for substitutes and ways to please the kiddos, and that was so helpful and so appreciated. Her customer service was probably the leading reason that we will visit again. As for the food - it was all pretty good. The short rib pasta dish is really good and so is the chicken parm. The pepperoni pizza with the honey and truffle is also really good - it's a good serving size, it isn't your average sized huge pizza but I'd say it's definitely shareable for 2 people. The meatball appetizer is a must-try, those were a favorite among our entire family, including our 10 month old haha The amalfi pound cake is my recommendation for dessert - it's just so good, the flavor combos in that dessert were unmatched for me. I love Cooper's Hawk so I was already excited to try Piccolo Buco before we got there. They are a scratch kitchen (which I'm always a huge fan of) and everything I saw looked delicious. I will say I think the thing to get here is their pizza. I had pizza for dinner the evening prior to coming here, so I sadly wasn't in the mood for any. I ended up getting the chopped salad and it was amazing. It was a huge portion for being listed on the menu as an appetizer. I was really happy with it but am definitely planning to go back for their pizza. Service was great but the only thing that wasn't ideal about the experience is we were seated right next to the entrance and we went at 4 pm on a Saturday so it was very loud with all the people waiting for a table and the people doing wine tastings in the front of the restaurant. read more

Lots to say about this experience. My dad and I dined here because we had a free entree and wine voucher. I got the vegan pizza and he got the lunch special meatball sub. For the food, the vegan pizza was probably one of the best pizzas I've had in a very long time. I was especially blown away by the crust and the yellow sauce they used. When they bring you the pizza they ask if you want it cut into 4 or 6 slices, then slice it on the table for you. The calabrian chili oil was also really yummy. My Dad wasn't as impressed with his sandwich and fries, as it was just more generic than my dish. Our service was also a little bit of a pain as there were many small errors in our ordering, receiving, and paying experiences. I was very super excited that my sister made reservations on a Friday night to go here and finally try it out. I have the first mention that reservation was easy online and service is very prompt. My overall experience for dinner is 3 stars worthy because it's just OK. The dining area noise level is very loud and we are not sitting near the bar. The seating area is very clean, but it is not intimate at all because it's wide open. I actually don't see myself coming back to dine anytime soon because it's just OK to me. Nothing really special. The only menu item that I enjoyed was the calamari! All my pasta entrées taste just OK and we're lacking depth in flavor & sauce. I think my most disappointing factor that really made me decide for an overall three star review is because the desert tiramisu that has made in house was just not good. To his / her own ... It's right there, in the Carrollwood Commons shopping plaza, on the corner of Dale Mabry and Erlich... in the old Macaroni Grill building. Look for the green and white striped awning-the name in a crisp, cool font and the super cute red motorbike outside. Then go inside-for the even better stuff! This is the little sister-or European cousin-of Cooper's Hawk. Their founder discovered the original Piccolo Buco in an out of the way spot in Rome... and got an idea. He and the Italian owner teamed up on a new concept-opening in Illinois. I think this is the first location in Florida. Ooo, I'm so glad they did. This is the smaller and more casual version of Cooper's Hawk. It has a cozy wine tasting room up front, a bar area on the right and the dining room to the left. You'll definitely want a reservation. I was there around 4pm (I stopped in while running elf errands) on a Monday-and while I was able to walk right in, it was super busy and popping by the time I left. Devin was my server-friendly, informative and helpful. He is so great-the perfect guide/host for your dining experience. He knows the menu/concept inside and out and explained everything so well. It was happy hour when I was there (2-5:30, Mondays-Thursdays) so I went with one of their signature Neapolitan style pizzas. They all come in an 11 inch size and are cut at the table with scissors. There are three sauces to choose from: red, yellow and white. The white is made with EVOO. The yellow is made with yellow tomatoes-which are sweeter than the red ones. I chose the "tre carne" pie with the yellow sauce. It came with pepperoni, sausage and salami. The toppings and cheese were tasty but the star of the show is the light as air crust. It makes the center of the pie a little soggy-I used a knife and fork for that, to keep from spilling. But as you get closer to the puffy, slightly charred edges, you can go handheld. I really loved those edges. The pizzas were $5 off during happy hour. I spied a couple of others I'd like to try-and some other options from the large regular menu. I tried the lemon drop martini-which was pleasant-and the Pinot Grigio that's exclusive to this location-which was excellent. This was such a fun stop in a very busy day. This was our first visit, it was for my friends birthday lunch on New Years Eve. The service was great and the food was even better! We ordered the Four Cheese Arancini "Supplí", it was perfectly creamy. The pizza was Perfect, we added pepperoni and it was a great addition. The three pastas we ordered were good, however I wouldn't order the Pappardelle with Short Rib Bolognese again, it was flavorful but it had what felt like a pound of tomatoes and maybe a quarter cup of shirt rub. Had a date night with hubby tonight. First time here and we were very impressed! We came at busy hour and were quoted a long wait but were successful in sliding in at the bar and then decided to stay because the bartender was great! We had a bottle of Romance Red and it was fabulous, served chilled and nicely placed in a wine chiller. We shared a chopped salad and it was so good we devoured it prior to taking a picture! Sorry! Hubby ordered the spicy shrimp pasta and loved it!! I has the chicken parm and it was also fabulous. It comes with two large chicken cutlets and could even be a shareable portion. The pizzas that passed by us while we sat made us drool and we can't wait to return to try them next!! We had a wonderful night. I was super excited to see this restaurant open up! I drive past it all the time and was wondering when a good Italian spot would come to the neighborhood. I made a reservation and it was a little slow getting seated but I looked past it. Service was excellent - our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered a few items. The zucchini blossoms were beyond delicious - I wish the portion was bigger cause it was finished in moments. The pizza was very good - I liked the cutting presentation at the table and the tomato sauce had great flavor. They have a lunch menu with about a half a dozen options, but otherwise you'll be ordering off the main menu, which is primarily pizzas and pricey entrees. I found the meatball sammy to be tasty tho a bit salty and the cesar wedge drowning in dressing. I was really excited to try Piccolo Buco after learning it was in the Coopers Hawk family. I was underwhelmed however not enough that I wouldn't try it again. To be fair I didn't try their pizza which is a specialty. The calamari had parmesan on it and the dipping sauce was very lemony. I would pass next time. Our beef rigatoni pasta was good. Piccolo Buco is a new Italian restaurant by Cooper's Hawk that officially opened in Carrollwood today. Open for lunch and dinner as well as offering a tasting room for wine tastings. The restaurant is a collaboration with Rome's original Piccolo Buco pizzeria and offers Roman-style pizzas and other Italian dishes. It's under the same collective as Coopers Hawk and offers CHW wine as well as the wine membership being good here. It's so close to home and I'm super stoked!!! Arrived and checked in. Reservation specifically had a special request for a booth given hubs has a really hard time with hard seats. We were sat at a table. One strike. Greeted by our server and gave her my CHW wine club card and ordered the sangria slush. Also got a sample of their reserve. Hubs ordered the pasta fagioli soup. When it came to the table 3 arrived. I immediately advised the server that we only ordered 1 to which we were told that she'd check the ticket. The manager came over and we had to explain the situation again to which the manager took the soups and said that she would take off the check. Strike two. We ordered the chop salad which came out without any tongs. It is large enough to share however, no serving utensils were given with the salad so I think that would be an improvement area that I would recommend. They serve the food as it comes out of the kitchen, and as the pizzas arrived at the table instead of being pre-sliced the servers had giant scissors to which they ask you whether you want the pizza cut in four or six slices they then take the scissors and cut the pizza at the table. Giant scissors with little tongs are a bad mix. You could clearly see that the servers were struggling with slicing the pizza. I think this is a waste of time. I did make a comment to the last server that came over about the scissors, asking why they didn't just slice the pizza in the kitchen to which she replied that the thought process was that they didn't want to crush the crust. The crust is going to be crushed in my mouth anyway, so I don't understand the concept it would be a better use of everyone's time and a better presentation of the food if it were already sliced when it came out. The salad was the clear winner of the evening. Not the pizzas. We ordered the pepperoni and the Margarita pizzas. The pizzas are individual sized and again you can get sliced in four or six slices for sharing at the table. Our opinion of the pizzas is the value is not worth it. I think they have some improvements to do. The pizzas were sort of soggy and a moment that you pick up a slice to place it on your plate or even to eat it the cheese and toppings just fall off the pizza. Couldn't finish our pizzas so we got them to go. What the heck is up with putting my pizza leftovers in a container and not a pizza box!? Your speciality is pizza. So you're telling me that you don't have pizza boxes!? My expectations were high and I left disappointed! Realizing this is opening day but you definitely have a lot of things to iron out. Please take this feedback and improve because I'd love to come and have my wine tastings here monthly given it is so close to home. read more

So delicious! We see the original and Rome but knew it was opening in Tampa so waited to try it here. They have the same menu! The pizza looked like it had an amazing fluffy but light crust and they cut it at your table with scissors. Even the gluten free pizza is great, it's not thin cardboard like most other places. The sauce was slightly sweet and the honey with the pepperoni was amazing! During lunch they have sandwiches which are huge and on a nice fluffy bread. Formerly The Macaroni Grill, Piccolo Buco is now open on the corner of Ehrlich and Dale Mabry -- and it's a great addition to the area! I initially tried placing an order online, but the payment system was temporarily down. Thankfully, I was able to call in my order easily and pick it up without any issues. The food was freshly made and prepared perfectly. I ordered the mushroom pizza, and it was fantastic -- so good, in fact, that I didn't even need the extra pepperoni topping I'd added. Piccolo Buco in Tampa completely exceeded my expectations. A big shout-out to Brittany in the tasting room who creates an exceptional tasting experience with her knowledge and passion. The food here is truly something special. The zucchini blossoms were exceptional, and the eggplant Parm tasted so authentic it took me right back to my aunt's house in southern Italy. The chicken Parmesan is bursting with flavor, especially with the touch of fennel pollen that takes it to another level. The yellow tomato bisque has instantly become my new favorite soup of all time. The yellow sauce pizza is out of this world. And you absolutely have to try the olive oil -- it's outstanding and really shows the level of quality they put into everything. Everything is high quality, full of flavor, and prepared with incredible care. In my honest opinion, this place outshines any other Italian restaurant in the Tampa area. Celebrated my wife's birthday here this evening. Our first visit as the restaurant has only been open a short while. We started with the stuffed squash blossoms which were excellent- four cheese stuffing, crispy batter and a lemon aioli. I opted for the pappardelle with the short rib bolognese while my wife chose the spaghetti carbonara. Both were very good. Dessert was the tiramisu. We accompanied our meals with the wine flight options. Service was excellent. Our server Chase knew the wines and the menu quite well and his service was both efficient and unobtrusive. Ambiance might be a slight ding. While it is neat, clean and attractively decorated, little to no thought was given to noise damping. It is quite loud. The pizza was the star of the show. Both the Margherita and Spicy Pepperoni pizza were very good. I will say the table side pizza cutting is awkward. Having the server fumble around scissors for 2 pizzas was a bit much. Cacio e pepe was ok. Not great. Sauce looked more like melted yellow butter and pepper than the creaminess of a well whisked pecorino cheese. The Bolognese was good and very rich. Spicy Calabrian Shrimp was solid. We made a very early dinner reservation (3:45pm)- as that was the only time that was available - due to its popularity since opening. Our server, Sol, was outstanding; very responsive and friendly! We asked for some extra tastings of sauce and they were accommodated. My husband is a New Yorker and quite picky about pizza, but I did set his expectations that this was Italian pizza and he really enjoyed it. We also ordered the calamari, which was tender and tasty. First time dining experience wasn't really what I expected from the Cooper's Hawk brand. Food was good but not great. Portion size of pasta dishes is small compared to similar restaurants. Service was ok not outstanding given our reservation was 11:15 on a Sunday, so before the "lunch rush". Menu was fairly limited with a lot of unique ingredients in what should be familiar dishes. Can't see this appealing to families, it seems target audience is older couples, which tracks with Cooper's Hawk brand. Not impressed at all. We walked in at 6pm for a table for two and was told it was a 35min wait. We ended up waiting over an hour! They have no waiting area/seating so we just stood by the hostess stand the whole time. Once seated the service started out fine but slowly got worse and worse as far as speed. The food was alright-we started with the squash blossoms which were pretty good if there was more sauce to dip them in...otherwise they were bland in flavor. The chopped salad was large but the Italian dressing was very light in taste. The hot honey pepperoni pizza was the highlight of the night. Wish they offered Parmesan cheese to too it with. The dessert description sounded better than it was. The bathroom toilets were gross upon checking 2 stalls.
