We tried this restaurant for lunch for the first time. We were seated right away but service was a bit slow. It took a few minutes for someone to come ask us for drinks or take our order. They only had one girl serving multiple tables. The inside ambiance is nice and clean. We ordered chilli chicken, chicken Rogan Josh, naan basket, Bhindi masala and daal makhani. My daughter and I went here for the first time and it was some of the best Indian food we've had in years! We are usually pretty picky because Indian is one of our favorites Literally everything was so delicious with great flavor. Our server Simran was excellent. She really added to the experience for us. She was so attentive and was great at helping us when we were deciding what to order. She gave us great suggestions. I also love that they have an entire Vegan/vegetarian menu. As a vegan, sometimes it's hard to find things to eat in restaurants, but there were so many options here. I highly recommend them. We will will definitely be back. Delicious!! read more

My husband and I moved to Florida from Houston, TX, so we've really been missing the bold, flavorful, actually spicy food we used to get. We stopped here for dinner before a comedy show and ordered the gobi manchurian, chicken chettinad, and of course garlic naan, and everything was so good. The chicken was super tender, the flavors were rich and authentic, and the spice level was exactly what we've been craving. We recently had dinner at Urban Indian on Dale Mabry Hwy. One thing to note is that they do not offer complimentary table water -- Sam's Club bottled water is available for $1.46 per person. We started with the Gobi Manchurian (cauliflower), which was flavorful and well-prepared, though we didn't realize it would be breaded. It would have been helpful if that had been noted on the menu. For our main courses, we ordered the Chicken Malai Kebab and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both dishes were tasty and nicely cooked. We ordered our dishes at the "hot" spice level, but surprisingly, they weren't spicy at all. If you're someone who enjoys bold heat, you may want to clarify your preference with the staff. Overall, the food was good, but the prices felt a bit on the higher side considering the portion sizes were fairly standard. While we enjoyed parts of our meal, there are several other Indian restaurants in Tampa that offer similar quality -- if not better -- at a more competitive price point. read more

Visited on a Sunday with friends for the first time. The food was really good, but unfortunately the service took away from the experience. Our server wasn't very helpful, and when I asked if the check could be split because we were treating a friend, he seemed annoyed and made it feel like a hassle, so I ended up doing it myself. Also, bottled water is placed on every table and automatically added to the bill. I didn't drink it and had to ask for it to be removed. It's disappointing because I really wanted to love this place based on the food, but the service made the experience less enjoyable. read more

Unless you want to wait forever to eat lunch or dinner, I would look into surrounding Indian restaurants. I have been to this place a few times and while the food is good - if you even get served to try it - the service is horrible! The waitress takes 30 minutes to even ask what you'd like to drink and it takes even longer to put an order in. I've had to literally get up and leave because of how long I was waiting to order. If this place wants to remain open and not be bought out by another owner (like when it used to be called Satkar) they should look into getting a whole new waitstaff immediately. read more

The food was amazing. I kept thanking my boyfriend for bringing me in between bites. The ambiance was cozy. The booths were elegant and our waitress was very attentive and informative. We gave this place a fair shake by going here three times. There will be not be a fourth. We have found a place to eat Indian fare that is better all the way around. This place charged us $3.00 for two waters!! There was nothing in the menu, posted anywhere, or told to us by our waitress. The other Indian places locally were shocked by that. The portions here are small, lack true Indian spices, and they give you little rice and charged us $3+ for an extra bowl. The tables and floors were dirty, and the one waitress used her wash cloth and bused the tables by pushing the food to the floor, went back to grab our food in the kitchen with those dirty hands, and never swept the floor. Gross! Gross! Gross! The prices are high as well. Needless to say, we will NOT be back!! read more

Ordered veggie samosas , butter chicken and a few nan bread. Everything besides the nan bread had no flavour. The butter chicken we got was a medium spice and all I tasted was just the taste of the chicken, the spiciness and that's it. It seemed like the samosas were frozen indefinitely no flavour on the inside. My boyfriend picked it up so I'm not too sure on how the service and the ambiance was but unfortunately this place didn't do it for me. I ordered from Urban Indian through UberEats. The tandoori chicken portion was only 6 pieces for $20. It looked more like an appetizer than entree. I ordered the chicken tikka masala which was very good but had bell peppers in it. I didn't care for the peppers. The tikka was tasty and went well with the basmati rice and garlic naan. My husband and I try to frequent this restaurant at least once a month. We love the food, and as vegetarians, the menus make it very easy to order. The food can be spiced as mild or as hot as you like ("child-mild" for us!), and there's a wide variety of dishes available. My first time trying Chicken Handi Murg and it was a good portion with plenty of chicken. Swarn Singh, one of the owners, made sure that we were well taken care of at 2:30am. We stayed until 3:30am and felt very welcome. I was intrigued by Swarn's stories of running Indian restaurants across Tampa Bay, and finally being able to cater to late night customers via Urban Indian. Had a great time at urban Indian. We enjoyed tasty garlic naan and the butter chicken was a crowd pleaser. Was super impressed with the tandoori and tikka offerings. Pineapple paneer tikka was a delicious, surprising combo and they offer tandoori salmon, shrimp, and lamb, in addition to the usual chicken. I had the shrimp and it was soooo flavorful!!! Our server, Nicole said the salmon tandoori was getting rave reviews so I'll look fwd to trying that next. The decor added to our enjoyment, as did our polite, helpful, attentive server, Nicole. I visited Urban India Restaurant last Sunday 23rd August 2025 visited there for lunch with my friend's family of 3 and we are 2 Total 5 members. We had initially ordered Monchow Soup, Gobi Manchuria, and Egg Biryani. Since we are strictly vegetarian (except for egg), we made it clear to the server that we do not eat any non-veg dishes. The first round of Gobi Manchuria was good, and my wife enjoyed it so much that we decided to order another one. Unfortunately, the second serving that was brought out was completely different in taste. My wife noticed right away, and when I tasted it, I also felt very uncomfortable. Soon after eating just 2-3 pieces, I became sick and ended up vomiting everything I had eaten. Because they brought and served with chicken and said its Gobi Manchuria. This was very disappointing, especially because we had already informed the staff about our dietary restrictions. At the time of billing, the response from the staff was just a casual apology, without any seriousness or accountability for what had happened. The behavior was unprofessional and left us with a very bad experience overall. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this restaurant and will be giving a low rating. Food safety, honesty, and respect for customer concerns should be taken much more seriously. read more

This is my review from 12/27/25 "I took my family to Urban Indian for my daughter's birthday. The only thing that was worth the money spent was the spring rolls. 4 drinks were brought out, waited another 23 minutes for two waters to be brought out. Two appetizers were brought to the table. The other two never came. We asked about them waitress states oh yeah I'll grab them now. She brings one of which was just a red onion sliced with a slice of lemon on the side. When asked where's the rest of it, she said that is it, it comes like that with cucumbers and peppers . There was clearly nothing but sliced onion and a slice of lemon. The other was to be to have carrots and cucumbers mixed in it and it was just a bowl of you hurt. When asked she says the veggies are puréed in it. The entrees order, are served set in the table not ensuring the right entree is served to the correct person as there were different spices levels. Oh a glass was shattered in the middle of the table in the mix of everything. The rice was forgot to be brought out with the entrees and had to be asked for after 15 minutes. Hands down the worst service I have actually experienced and truthfully a wast of $149.58. Just overall not impressed and won't be back. To expensive to risk having another experience as such. Hope others have a enjoyable experience and not leave hungry needing to stop somewhere else on your way home cause you are starving still because the food was awful.". Now I wasn't looking for anything from them I was simply sharing my experience for others to not have the same error waster their money when they go to other places that serve great Indian with awesome service. Now they have changed their response on google to pretty well state they are in the right. It really isn't about who was right or who was wrong. It was just simply I was following up as they stated. Food was delicious and authentic! I had the chicken Rogan Josh with the lachha paratha, and the only complaint I had was that the paratha wasn't really flaky like a lachha paratha is supposed to be. The Rogan Josh was amazing tho! My husband got the chicken tikka and aloo paratha, and both were great. The only issue he had was that he asked for a medium but it tasted more like a mild, which we don't blame them for since different people and restaurants have different levels of spiciness. I ordered the Indian hot which was perfect level spicy for me. The biggest complaint we had however (which is what took the 1 star away for me) was that they were severely understaffed, and because of that, it took them a long time to come greet us, give us our table, and then to take our order. Angelica, our server, was basically holding the fort down for them, and doing a great job at that! I hope they end up hiring more servers as good as her because I really want this place to survive and do well! read more

I went there for the first time today, with two of my lady friends, one is from India. All of us liked the food very much and left more than satisfied. The restaurant is beautiful and pleasant, with white leatherlike backed benches, marble like topped tables and nice cool lighting. The food is prepared individually with every order. The wait was well worth it. There is enough food on the menu to please everyone, including Vegans. John, the manager was very friendly and accommodating. He made us feel very welcome. Ambience is good, but food is completely North Indian style and biryani is spice less and no aroma and no taste. Chilli chicken no where in India awill make a chilli chicken like that. It's called chili chicken but it is sweet sauce and price are crazy but portions are small. Biryani is like masala rice not aroma at all. Thought we would give this new restaurant a try. Came in, gentlemen who took our order was less than inviting. Ordered 2 orders of butter chicken. There was barely enough rice for one person. Butter chicken was like bland tomato soup. Asked about the lamb chops. $40 for 5 very small lamb chops, came with no rice. Gentlemen said they came with vegetables. Didn't realize it was a raw onion slice a pice of tomato and a cucumber slice. Based on the reviews I was expecting a way better experience.
