What a slice of Americana! This is a great old school joint! The burgers are solid and cheap! This is stripped down good burg nakedness at it finest! The fries are hand cut and very tasty! That said this place has the best MFN milkshakes ever!!! Get your ass out of the city and check this little gem out. Wonderful old place with outstanding food. I searched out the Pick-Quick for the nostalgia, but will return for the awesome double cheeseburger. The raspberry shake was as good as advertised and the coney (didn't know they had these on the west coast) was giant. It stayed together rather well but the knife and fork did come in handy. A tiny place with what seems like a rather extensive menu (including a meatless burger), Pick Quick is celebrating 70 years in business. Stopped by with wife for a burger. Haven't been there for a while and she wanted to see if it was as good as the old days when we both worked in Fife (back in early 80s). We each had a cheeseburger and shared a large fry. I had a coke and she ordered a Vanilla Shake. They accidently did a chocolate shake but made her a vanilla one. Ordered a double bacon cheese burger and a soda that taste like sweetened Simple Green. Firstly, they accept cash only in the year 2020. So, as most space men from the future, I don't carry cash and was referred to the neighboring gas station to get some. $2.75 from them plus $2.00 from my own bank later, equaling nearly $5.00 just to have enough currency to pay $10 for a burger and a soda! That's almost $15.00 for those with math issues. The double patty is equivalently to one regular thickness patty. Raw onion and cheap cheese. I believe there was some sauce in there. I did not taste the burger. At all. No smokiness. Simply put. I would rather drive 8 minutes to Frisko Freeze. Give them my future money card. Get twice as much meat with lettuce. This is a solid 3 Star Establishment. It doesn't really do anything great but it doesn't do anything wrong either... Except maybe the fries. They come out greasy and limp. Then again if you are stopping by a drive in you probably aren't expecting the worlds best fries. The burgers are small but that isn't uncommon for this type of establishment. Hands down best milk shakes around bc of the choices. The burger is just a simple classic deluxe burger with all the fixings. I add grilled onions and sometimes jalapeños. The fries are just my style. Some crispy some floppy double fryed like they should be. Nothing ridiculously special, but sometimes simple is the best. Let me first admit my bias: I am still looking for a fast-food burger to rival the Dick's deluxe. The deluxe is, for me, the Platonic ideal of fast-food burgers. Though the Pick Quick's double cheeseburger did not surpass the Dick's deluxe for me (for any burger to do this might require me to totally re-evaluate my life), it was pretty dang good. I always feel a little intimidated when ordering for the first time at a window or a counter. But the staff here was very friendly and guided me through the order. I was going to just get a single-patty cheeseburger but they suggested a double patty, since the patties aren't very big. The GF ordered a veggie burger, and to round it out we also got an order of fries and a chocolate-peanut butter shake. My double cheeseburger was a little messy, so it was nice that it came in a little paper pocket designed to catch overflowing toppings and condiments. The soft, lightly toasted bun was smeared with the perfect amount of mayo and mustard (BTW, I love mayo). The lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle were crisp and fresh--and the onion was quite mild, so even though it was a big chunk of it, it didn't overpower. The meat patties were of the thinner variety, tasty and not at all tough. The GF was also impressed by her veggie burger. She said that a lot of the time veggie burgers seem to be treated as an afterthought, but the quality of Pick Quick's made it clear that it was crafted with care (and the fresh and tasty veggie toppings were a big plus). The fries were awesome--crunchy and apparently hand-cut. They also came with ketchup without having to ask for it or pay extra. But they were so flavorful that ketchup was actually unnecessary. The shake was delicious and so thick we needed to eat it with a spoon. It was made with real peanut butter so sucking through a straw was out of the question. Will I be back? Most definitely. I'm sorry but I don't see the hype, this is an average ok place to go to. The food, service, and atmosphere are all just ok. Nothing really stood out as being really bad, but nothing stood out as being really good either. The meat was kind of on the dry side. The pickles mixed with relish made the burger drip on you. I like the shoe string style fries, but they are not made to order, and so they were not fresh, and half were burnt. It's a nice place to go to during the summer, but I'd say that a lot of burger places in Tacoma are better than this place. It's like having a Dick's in Fife! Okay, so maybe you can't EXACTLY compare the two places but Pick-Quick is still awesome! Cheap, satisfying burgers, crispy fries, quick and friendly service, and DELICIOUS milkshakes. I ordered the marshmallow milkshake and I thought I was drinking thick, liquid marshmallow fluff (in a totally good way). They were really close to closing time but the staff kept a smile on their faces and greeted each customer as if they had just opened; no pressure to order and leave.
