I have a soft spot for Pick Up Stix because it was my first job when I was in high school! I've visited this location close to 50 times in the 6+ years I've lived in Irvine mainly because it's close to my house and I like that it isn't too chaotic with people. I will say, the wait times can be very long, so I always order through the app now. I ordered pad thai through the app for the first time today and wouldn't say this is my favorite dish. I'm glad I tried it, but I'll definitely stick to my favorites like Mongolian beef and garlic chicken. The noodles were incorrect for the dish (pad thai should have very thin noodles and these were flat and wide like chow fun) and the flavor wasn't amazing. I would say though that the meat portions were very generous. Something I also noticed is the wait times through the app are very off. When I placed the order, it said estimated time for pick up was 55 minutes. I waited almost a full hour until I drove to pick it up and my order was sitting on the counter at almost room temperature. Marginal quality food. I keep giving Pick Up Stix a chance, and they constantly disappoint me. Today I ordered Mongolian beef. It was loaded with tons of pieces of white onion. No one puts onions in Mongolian beef!!! The beef was completely tasteless. Chewy, gnarly little pieces of beef from questionable parts of the cow. With it 92 degrees outside, it was steaming inside at around 82. Don't eat at this location without watching how your food is made. Today I watched the cook grab with his bear hands peanuts to add to a customers order of king pao chicken , I saw him wiping his hands on his shirt and clothing as well and touching his hat . Prior to today's incident, about a month ago another cook a lady coughed over the food in the kitchen without covering her mouth. Didn't offer to make it again, refund, offer another option. I have had this aane dish before at other locations and it was nothing like this. Tonight's Sweet and Sour chicken comes in as merely passable. Breaded chicken was flavorful but on the small side. Onions and pineapple carry the dish while the carrots and broccoli were tough to chew. To my disappointment, the rice is very dry with an almost grainy texture. Great spot for Chinese fast food. It's slightly healthier than similar places and it tastes fresher too. The food does take longer than other fast food places because they cook everything to order. I've stopped going to the location after having multiple negative experiences. My most recent experience was when I ordered online for dinner and paid! I had set the pick up time for the evening and upon arriving at the restaurant I saw a posted sign stating it was closed for routine maintenance. I called and no one answered. There went my dinner as I was having guests over. The following day I called to ask for a refund since I was charged but didn't receive my food order. The manager was very nonchalant about it, with hardly an apology. I find it odd that if it was a routine maintenance why they didn't include something on the website stating it was closed and it accepting orders. A few weeks prior to this incident I had tried to place an order online and there was a message that they were no longer accepting order so I don't know what that could've occur this time around. I provided my experience and feedback to the corporate office and never received an response. With many options for dining that offer good food, efficient ordering and friendly staff I will no longer give this location my business.
