First, the pizza....The crust is the thin, full of flavor on it's own, and a perfect texture. The quality ingredients in terms of sauce and toppings are obvious and what makes it outshine probably any pizza you've had before. Second, the knots....warm, garlicky, great texture, dangerous. Third, the chopped salad.....I don't know what goes into it but it holds its own in terms of tasting every bit as great as the pizza. Ok, about Pie Guy- This is the best pizza in STL if your looking for real NY Style pizza, I'll go further, its the best pizza in STL and puts to shame the hip Neapolitan over priced stuff that currently is all the rage (editors note: I still do like that style see my review of Pastaria). The crust is perfect and done exactly right and to the reviewer who suggested it is served burned-friend, that's how its supposed to be served, a little crispy, I suggest you get yourself to Imo's BTW. Lots of toppings, everything served seemed fresh, and the sauce is excellent, FYI, an 18" they serve is more than two people can eat, but its great the next day for lunch, IMHO. The closest thing you'll find to real NY pizza albeit at twice the price. I ordered a pepperoni and a pepperoni mushroom onion pizza as well as garlic knots and it was absolutely reminiscent of being in Manhattan, so good. The pizza is a full 18inches cut into six or eight slices your choice. A perfect NYC type crust with just the perfect amount of grease in the middle. The garlic knots were garlic, cheese, and dough goodness. The do offer pizza by the slice which is cool and they're huge slices. I'll definitely order this again! read more

My first time trying it! We ordered for pickup and forgot that it was Pride weekend. It was early so it wasn't crowded but they weren't having folks inside and had a table at their garage door where you ordered from. We had been out and about and my toddler needed to use the bathroom while we were waiting for our pizza. They were kind enough to let us in even though it was a special setup. Great spot for pizza. The Detroit style pizza was yummy the crust was thick and pillowy. The spinach and bacon salad was stellar.

I love going to pizza slice places wherever I travel. My wife isn't always fond of me doing this . As she tends to be more of a fine dining type person. But back to this restaurant. Soon as we walked in to the dining area I loved all their nostalgia from the old days. I never come in to a place expecting great food or service. Especially after Covid. The first person that helped us was ok. But once we got the young lady to help us what a difference it made. Showed us all the pie options. We went with the pepperoni duh! But my wife is vegan and when she told her that she showed her a new option. It was a lemon zest option I don't remember what they called it. Well once they brought our slices to our table holy moly!!! The pepperoni slices have to be in my top 3 slices I have ever had! My wife is extremely picky since she is vegan. She said her slice was so good she wanted another one. And she very very rarely says that about pizza. I can't wait until next year when we head to the Transworld Halloween convention again. I liked this place a lot. Overall, the slices are big and delicious. I think the pepperoni is probably the winner here, and at five dollars a slice or maybe at six dollars I forget, two slices will fill you up and send you home happy. It is also connected to a bar which has a phenomenal draft selection. I don't usually care about the service in terms of people being super friendly or not, I'm there for the food, but I would say on both the bar side and food side people were either very short and just not friendly, or seemed disinterested in serving (this was more on bar side). Which was a bit of a disappointment, I don't really understand the reason for that, I had heard they got hit with a big rush on the food side just before we got there, which is why a couple of things were out. But in general, I shouldn't feel like me asking for them to check on what pizzas available should be met with a sort of negative reaction. It's felt a little soup Nazi-ish to me lol. Yes, it is good pizza and a cool spot, but I just don't see the reason to have the sort of attitude that people have that we interacted with. I will give it another shot because I thought it was a cool spot with good food and drinks, and hope that the next time is better. I grew up on Long Island, NY- about 20 min outside of manhattan. We had pizza places on every corner, I worked in pizza shops all through high school, and it was horrifying to learn that you can't just walk into a pizza shop and get a delicious slice when you leave that NY bubble. I haven't lived in NY in almost 10yrs but I've never been able to get over losing pizza as I know and love it. I think I can finally call STL home because of Pie Guy! You guys- this is real, NY style pizza. The heated slice gets that slightly crisp bottom crust that lets you fold the slice in half as you walk down the street dripping from the re-melted cheese over your white paper plate. This might not sound appealing to everyone- but it's a religion and it's delicious. I nearly cried tears of happiness after my first pieguy slice. The sun started shining brighter, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about them since. It's 10am and I want some PieGuy for breakfast. read more

Simple and Convenient! Looking for a late night snack can be problematic in The Lou. Most restaurants stop serving long before midnight. The Gramophone in The Grove has offered sandwiches super late for quite some time. However, The Grove just strengthened it late night options with the addition of Pie Guys Pizza. I discovered Pie Guys though NPR. Public radio is definitely useful sometimes! And the description on the place was pretty spot-on: simple New York style pizza that's offered late night. The biggest draw for me is the location. They are connected to Gezellig Bottle Shop. When I heard about the new pizza joint, I didn't jump at it right away. I decided to swing by Gezellig on a whim, and there it was. Another would be the hours. Pie Guys is open until midnight Tuesday through Thursday and until 3:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Perfect for the late night owls in The Grove! I don't eat a lot of meat and cheese anymore. Luckily, vegan cheese is becoming more common. However, I didn't know that Pie Guys had vegan options when I came by. I just kept it simple and ordered a slice of cheese. Just as advertised, the slice was fairly large and had just simple ingredients. And it hit the spot. However, I will definitely try the vegan slice next time. I was a little surprised by the price. Single slices start at four dollars and go up a dollar for other options. However, a whole cheese pie is only $17, so it seems like ordering a whole one is the way to go. Having Pie Guys next to Gezellig makes the whole package very appealing. Something quick and easy before heading to Ready Room or a meal or snack while drinking good beer. read more

Holy cow this stuff is amazing!!! Some of the best garlic knots AND pizza we've EVER had (and we've had A LOT)! We got the 18 inch combo with garlic knots- a great value and plenty to feed our family of four (with breakfast leftovers). We got half hamburger, half bacon and hamburger- so good. The cheese is AMAZING and it's all so flavorful! The knots are CAKED in buttery cheesy goodness and you just can't stop eating them. It's probably a good thing we're from out of town or we'd be in trouble with this place. We will DEFINITELY be back whenever we're in the city! read more

I was ecstatic to hear that there was now another NYC style pizza joint nearby. I tried their slice during the weekend of Grove Fest and it was straight up NOT good at all. I cannot even pinpoint the details (the crust was especially off and the pizza overall just felt stale and old). Also, $5 for a slice? If it were good I could've let it go, but it was just additional insult to injury. The good news is that they open late, later than most food establishments, so if you really need a pizza fix, this is your (only) spot. I did find the pizza to be pretty greasy, but hey it's pizza, and we're not going for healthy. This is the second time we have ordered from Pie Guy this week. Overall, a solid place to grab NY-style pizza at the Grove. I have walked by Pie Guy a couple of times and was interested in trying it. I was able to go with a friend and we went to both Gezellig and Pie Guy at the same time. I got a slice of the cheese pizza and it was different that other slices that I've had in the city (Pizza Head, the URB etc.). There was a more definite herb flavor to the pizza than the places that I mentioned that resonated throughout eating my cheese slice. Pricing was around $4 for the cheese and around ~$5 for pizza with toppings, which is similar to the URB and Pizza Head. Another plus to Pie Guy is the location. It's connected to a great place to get beers for a reasonable price (Gezellig) and you can bring the beers from Gezellig over to Pie Guy to chow down on your pizza while drinking beer. I am a pizza lover, period; however, I am usually forced to order chicken as my main topping at most pizza joints, because their pepperoni has beef in it (I have a beef "allergy"). But Pie Guy's pepperoni is all pork! The pizza itself is full of flavor. All I needed was a side of garlic butter for the leftover crust and I would have been an overly satisfied hog. I won't count it against the pizza chef or manager for looking irritated by my asking about the pepperoni ingredients--I'm needy and particular.
