Each time we visit Pie Life, it's a no-fail. The pizzas we order are always fresh, delicious, and consistently good. I usually get the Margherita pizza, and my kids always go for the cheese and pepperoni pizzas. The crust is perfectly cooked, the sauce is flavorful, and the fresh mozzarella makes the Margherita pizza stand out. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, and the owners, Erika and Joseph, are always friendly. It's always nice to find a local spot you can count on for great food. If this place had 200+ reviews, I'd give it 3 stars without hesitation. But we all know how hard the restaurant business is, so it gets 5 stars for now. For me, the crust is make-or-break. It defines the character of the pizza. Some places can get away with a weaker crust, like Prince St., because they have something else that stands out: the novelty of pepperoni overload and great marketing. But places like that are the exception. At Pie Life, the crust is bland. Comparing it to matzah would not be much of a stretch. The texture, however, is great. There is a decent chew and crispness when fresh, and my pizza steel was able to replicate that extremely well at home. The ingredients are also fresh. The highlight is the tomato sauce. It is light, subtly sweet, and very much suited to my palate. Unfortunately, because the crust is so generic, that lack of character carries over to the specialty pies. They end up tasting like generic mom-and-pop pizzas. The exception is the cheese slice, which I'd rate a 10/10. Here, the generic crust actually works, because the beauty of a cheese slice lies in its simplicity. The fresh ingredients allow the crust to take a back seat, while the crisp crust, melty cheese, and light tomato sauce make every bite perfect. I'm not much of a cheese pizza person, though; I only ended up with it because a DoorDash UI glitch reset my PB&J half to cheese on this order. The sad truth is that, because of the generic-tasting crust, I don't have much reason to choose Pie Life over Pizzanista--especially since both are basically the same price. Pizzanista has a sourdough crust, and its pepperoni has much more character--see the pics. I much prefer the subtle zest, freshness, and sweetness of Pie Life's sauce over Pizzanista's more savory sauce, but overall, there's no comparison. The crust alone makes the difference. read more

Cute little pizza shop in charming downtown Monrovia. You can order fresh pizzas or purchase by the slice and they'll pop it in the oven for a couple of minutes. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We chose to sit outside since it was a beautiful day, plus a little stuffy inside (but not worth knocking a star off for the stuffiness). My group of 4 purchased a total of 4 slices of pizza, 3 chocolate chip cookies, and 1 Diet Coke and the total was $29. That's cheaper than McDonald's these days, I was very impressed. I came in tonight all excited to try this new pizza place in my neighborhood... what a HUGE mistake!! It was AWFUL!! We ordered 4 slices of the pepperoni pizza. The crust was dry and tasted like cardboard!! The pepperoni was greasy and tasted old! The pizza had almost no cheese... We won't return but I wish them the best of luck! New pizza spot that replaced the previous one. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You can find street parking or in one of the nearby lots. I tried the sausage and shroom. Things I love about Pie Life Pizza - everything! The pizza is delicious - my personal favs, in order of preference, are the thick crust Sicilian pepperoni & the warehouse! I love that you can order by the slice, they have a few slice combos with a drink and or salad, you can build your own pie to sample various slices, or just a full pizza pie of your choice to eat there or bring home to the fam. I can walk in here and eat lunch or dinner and walk outta there happy and content for only $5-15 or feed my family of 4 for $35...ya know, in this economy. The service is quick. They heat the slice up and it's usually ready within less than 5 mins. The ambiance is low key, casual - warehouse style. New pizza place in town that is of good quality and good ingredients. They have a variety of options and are also available by slice which allows you to try different ones depending on preference. I really liked that they warm up the pizza before serving you. The ambiance is cute and the service was good. My only suggestion to the owner will be to look into baking the upper part of the pizza before adding the sauce and the cheese so as to avoid the doughy consistency that results from high heat in the oven. This is a fairly new pizza place in Monrovia, and we have ordered twice. It is hands down the best pizza we've ordered in the 20+ years we have lived in this area. Good crust, good amount of toppings, reasonable price. The only drawback is that you cannot order by calling the restaurant directly. You have to order on their website, and their website doesn't have a way to communicate substitutions -- for example, I want everything but the olives on my "Warehouse" pizza. Give them a try. I stumbled upon this place on a fated accident and initially visiting their Pasadena location because I was starving and wanted something easy, so I stopped by and so happy I did because it is so good! Ordered the NY Pizza with extra cheese and half pep on their website but had glitchy issues with completing my order because the order won't go through if you don't choose a topping for a whole pizza (there was not an option for No Topping) even though I was ordering a half cheese half pep so ended up getting triple extra cheese which was well worth it! Possibly the best NY style pizza nearby and def better than Village Pizza in Sierra Madre. Lastly the pizza, and the crust tho! It's density and crust's crunch held up with all that cheese pull and the NY pizza fold was legit. What a great addition to the local community! I've been here twice since they've opened and am delighted to have great, local pizza in M-town! Lasagna pizza is not a noun that I ever thought would enter my life, but I could probably eat a whole pie of the stuff. I'm also the type to leave pizza bones (at least 90% of the time) but I actually ate all of the crust of my slice which somehow tastes lighter and far less likely to make one ponder future health issues. The location and setting is also great with the option to take your slice across the street to enjoy an evening stroll by the library in the (pretty likely, IMO) chance that the place is packed. Discovered this by exploring the downtown Monrovia area, it's a great pizza place! First off, seems like vegans and lactose intolerant people are out of luck here since it's full dairy though I suppose you could build your own pizza without cheese. There's slices available when you walk in for about 5$ per slice. Otherwise if you want a whole pie, they got Sicilian style and NY style. We tried a Sicilian cheese and it was pretty good, think Detroit style but thinner crust. However I personally preferred the NY style slices. They are thinner and more traditional slices and huge! I think it's basically the size of a Costco pizza slice or pretty close to it. Of course pizza tastes amazing the day of, but we did buy a whole one to go and if you know how to reheat pizza, it's not too bad the next few days. Pizza is a bit on the pricier side but I feel you get the quality of what you pay. Besides don't just let me be a judge, this is apparently their second location so they must be doing something right! Give it a try if you're in the mood for pizza! read more

I brought the family in to try the new spot in town. I heard it was a little pricey but I'm totally fine with that. Unfortunately, In my opinion and the opinion of my family, was that the pizza was nothing special. We ordered four different types and I didn't care for any of them. The ambiance was not elevated. The service by the two young ladies working behind the counter was lackluster. We dined inside and the evening sun was glaring in and the AC was not working. They have a couple of ceiling fans but they couldn't turn them on because they couldn't reach the cord. I don't think I'll be giving them a second chance. Bummer. read more

I orderd a cheese take out, the crust was very dry, cardboardy, no char (crust is everything, when it comes to a good pie). Barley any sauce but what I could taste was meh.
