This is probably the best placed pizzaria right next to San Marino High School. As I drive by this location, I've always wondered what this place was like and whether their pizza was good. We ordered the Hawaiian Pizza which is a thin crust pizza and pretty large for a medium pizza. The food was good and piping hot when I arrived. Inside the restaurant, it's clean and inviting with the cashier and hostess working hard to keep the tables clean and handling pick-up orders. Tony's Pizza is not the same anymore, for all the best reasons! The pizza I remembered from high school was inedible cardboard. I have nostalgic memories of sitting in the red-and-green booths struggling to chew thru the stale crust on awkward first dates. The pizza now is so satisfying and a major improvement, with the same menu as before. I love the new crust texture. The pizza is not as greasy nor guilty as a NYC slice but would hold up well comparatively. I am sad to see the spate of negative reviews from people who seem attached more to the nostalgia of old Tony's and fail to see the major improvements the new owners have made to entire operation. I walk in and it's a breath of fresh air: extremely clean, gone are the days of the musty salad display and flour-covered floors. I have wanted to try Tony's Pizza for 10 years now! I finally got the chance. I ordered a medium Sicilian with pepperoni, jalapenos, and basil, for me and my mom. This pizza is so giant, it could easily feed six people. Lots of leftovers in the freezer, for a little treat later. If you order the Sicilian, know that it takes longer to make than the regular Neapolitan pizza. But, totally worth it! My mom picked up the pizza, because I just had a baby, and she said that everyone on staff, that she encountered, was really nice! I've been coming here for many years. Before today, my previous visit was about 2 months ago. I was surprised to learn today that the business has new ownership. After today's visit, I'm a bit relieved since the pizza seems very familiar. I've passed by this pizza spot for over 2 years and not once did I dawn to check it out until my son said "pizza" and pointed and I said "sure, why not!" It didn't disappoint! Pizza by the slice was a big plus for my son and I. We had a good selection to choose from. There small salads are a great size. The reheat of the slices is quick and perfect temp, super tasty! Next time I visit I'm going to try a sandwich. Service was amazing, super welcoming and friendly. Even after we sat they asked if we wanted water, cheese or anything else, which made me feel welcome and the whole staff was really patient with my son who can be wild, so I definitely appreciate that! I did see a lot of to go orders within the 20 minutes I was there which tells me my son picked a great spot! Also we were in luck to be heading out while a massive group of teens from San Marino High were coming in looking hungry. I was literally born and raised with Tony's Pizza. I've been coming here for almost three decades with fond memories of my grandma pushing me in a stroller to come grab a slice. They recently had a change in ownership but it looks like they still kept the same recipes from the previous owners, Tony and Mike. It's a great place to get NY style thin crust pizza by the slice. They also kept their student special - 2 slices + 1 free small fountain drink. I do hope the new owners continue the legacy and keep the recipes and I'll continue to support for many decades more! read more

( you had me at Ny style and I am in). Place was as expected an old mom and pop style pizzeria with friendly staff. Ordered a couple of slices and a ceggie pie with a variety of veggies. Also ordered the garlic knots. Pizza came out hot and was pretty much an NY style pizza. Would say it was pretty good but would have liked a but more sauce. Knots were great and a rather large offering. Overall, good local spot if you're in the area. One gripe - would love to have a beer to go with my pie, but can understand that its a spot that mostly pick up as to why they wouldnt. read more

It could be the worst pizza I've ever had anywhere! The only answer is that the company was sold. So, after I posted the above, I read some of the other reviews on Tony's and found out that the company was sold. Whoever owns Tony's now better check out your pizza maker. I've been coming to Tony's Pizza for as long as I can remember. Growing up, nothing beat the student special with a slushie--those are core childhood memories for me. I always thought the same Sicilian family would run Tony's forever, passing it down through the generations. So when I found out there were new owners, I'll admit I was nervous. But to my relief, it's still Tony's pizza! The taste, the atmosphere, the comfort--it all brought me back. That being said, I have to mention one small (but big to me) detail: the onions. My go-to has always been sausage and onion, and Tony's was special because of how they cut them--thin, long, stringy slices that caramelized perfectly in the oven. The new cut is different--chopped longer, thinner pieces--which just doesn't hit the same. It might sound silly, but for me, that little detail made their pizza stand out from anywhere else. One friendly suggestion for the new owners: please don't swap out the original ingredients for other brands. The magic of Tony's is in the flavor that's been consistent for decades. Don't change that! All in all, I'm so glad Tony's is still here and still delicious. Change is part of life, but the heart of Tony's pizza lives on. read more

Like many San Marino residents, my family and I have been patron's of Tony's Pizza for over 40 years. When we found out Mike was moving on from the business we were understandably nervous to lose such a large part of our childhoods. I initially visited 2-3 days after the new owners took over, the pizza was not good and you could tell there were some growing pains. This is normal for any new operator. I stopped back in today and was pleasantly surprised to find that the pizza and service had remarkably improved. You can tell the new owners are finding their groove, and I'm both relieved and excited for what's to come. Some advice for the new owners: you've bought a place that's been a stalwart of a small community for years. Integrating yourselves into the community is going to be difficult because there is so much to compare against. People are going to be skeptical, and looking for a reason not to support. Take the negative feedback head on and address it immediately in all aspects of the customer experience. Everyone knows it's new ownership or will notice (I literally observed 2 conversations while I was sitting here where customers were asking), take control of the narrative and make your mission clear that you're not trying to change the legacy but carry it forward. This is not a full review as I tried this place after lunch and bought pre cooked and warmed up slices. While they were good and enjoyed the crispy crust, it would not be fair to do a full review without tasting the pizza fresh. The sauce would not be as dry and likely more flavorful right out of the oven versus a pre cooked slice. read more

It's so funny that I would always see Tony's on my way back home from another pizza spot. This place is so unassuming and I love how the inside is like an ordinary mom and pop shop that you'd see in the east coast! I honestly miss places like this so much and the workers are the sweetest! Okay...pizza here is legit! I'll be back. Each slice is between $3-5 depending on whether they're fancy. I got the Dante which has a kick with the jalapeños, onions+goat, and a classic cheese. I was a big fan of the Dante and really like the onions one, but not a fan of goat! Pizza has a nice texture to it, which is what I'm always looking for and they don't skip out on ingredients! I don't want to be unkind but since this business has changed ownership the customer service has declined severely. The last two times I have visited the business the same woman that I believe owns the business has displayed poor customer service. Example 1 the first time when I entered the store to order a meal she didn't bother to attend to me and take my order until she finished playing a game on her iPhone (I saw her screen). Example 2 occurred just today when I was about to order a meal and she picked up her phone and spent 10 minutes with a phone-in order before she attended to me. Why she couldn't just inform the phone order to hold for a minute, escapes me. And she never apologized for the delay. Came by today around the time they opened with my family, we hadn't been here in years and years and wanted to give it a try! We got 4 slices to go. We ordered a slice of margarita, Hawaiian, Tony's Special and Dante's inferno. We all loved the pizza, my daughter had the Hawaiian. My mom had Tony's special and I absolutely loved the Dante's Inferno , they warned me that the sauce is spicy for that slice and it is spicy but so delicious! We've been eating at Tony's for more than 30 years. The pizza was always amazing, the owner knew us and was always friendly. It's just not the same. Toppings and sauce are good. Prices are fine. People are nice. The pizza just doesn't taste the same. The crust on a couple of our last pizzas is just sort of tasteless and overbaked. It seems like there's less cheese. Experience: I went in on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. There was only one small family seated and eating. Place is inviting, plenty of seating, quick service, and a nice selection of pizza toppings. Service: Friendly and quick. There were two staff members working that afternoon. Pizza: Under the window they had different pies, we went to get slices, thankfully all the slices were quite large, like a NYC slice. I ordered a cheese pizza slice. To me, the biggest test at a pizzeria joint is to try their cheese pizza. If it's good, I feel that the other flavors will also be good. It's a good safe tasty base to order. The dough was nice and soft, not too doughy but doughy enough. I usually like thin sliced pizza, but this was okay. The pizza could have been heated up a lot more, it was just warm. I like when the cheese is still hot to the mouth. The portion of sauce to bread and cheese to sauce was at a good ratio. Also, if I finish the crust, that generally is a sign of a good pizza in my eyes. I did end of finishing the crust, so that is a plus. Parking: There is a parking lot in the back, which we parked at. There were plenty of spaces. Verdict: It's a good place to pass through if you're hungry. The price point is okay for LA. Def not the same as a 99 cent cheese pizza slice in NYC, but you can get one for $3.50. read more

Although I wish they would add a hot honey option, all the other updates have been good and the salads are always fresh. It's cheap but today my pizza was stacked on top of itself and tasted salty and a little burnt. I heard the old owners sold. And it's under new management so far it's not great. Cheap paper plates the cashiers fingers practically on the pizza. Last time I came here my food was served properly in a small to go box and it included a small free drink.
