Overall a 3.5 The grandma clearly had superior flavor but they got my order wrong - they added sausage to the pepp. And the cheese slice was so cold and hard, even though the pepp wasn't. Stumbled into this pizza bar on a First Thursdays. Got in really quickly before a line started forming and ordered some drinks and a half half round pizza (meats and greens + marg). The honey and arugula on the meat and greens was savory and sweet and really hit especially because we were so hungry. I've only discovered this place because I was at a nearby cocktail bar, and was buzzed and hungry. I yelped any food places nearby and this was 3 blocks away, so I walked over here with some friends. People outside couldn't stop raving how good this place is. Though this place is sit-down with bar seating, we were doing a to-go order. We still happen to wait in the same line as those who were getting seated and it took us about 30-45 mins to put our orders in then another 10 mins to wait for the pizza to be ready. I think for efficiency, people making to-go orders should be able to place it early on so we can get out of the space, as it can get crowded. Next time, I'll just order ahead probably. Lots of options for pizza style. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and it was good - the crust was soft and it was warm, nice to eat on a cold night. My drunken friends said it was the best pizza they ever had, but I'm not sure if it's because of the state they were in, but the pizzas were pretty darn good! Stopped by for their Happy Hour last week and what a great decision that was! We had their Fried Cheese Curds, Tiki Cocktails, lasagna, and pizza - it was all AMAZING! During happy hour you get a few bucks off of certain categories of items. Fried Cheese curds - Very tasty and flavorful cheese with a light and airy crispy breading. I've had fried cheese curds from the Tillamook Factory and these put it to shame! Tiki Cocktail (Painkiller) - this was REALLY good! Very well balanced and super refreshing. I'm not usually the biggest fan of Painkillers since they're normally too strong, but this one is a tropical treat! Lasagna - this was just okay - sauce is lacking some flavor, but my friend enjoyed it quite a bit! Pizza (Onion/Ricotta + Pepperoni) - HOLY CRAP! Both of these pies blew my socks off! We got 2 pizzas - one 12 inch round (Onion Ricotta) and a large rectangular pizza (pep). The flavorful onion and creamy ricotta blended so perfectly together - probably one of my top 5 pizzas I've ever eaten. As for pepperoni, it was AMAAAAZING! It had a ton of little pepperonis that cupped up - so good! The crust we chose for pepperoni reminded me a lot of prince street pizza, but was WAAAY better! Prince street is just way too thick and this one was slightly thinner which made it perfectly balanced. Prince street is just like eating a thick focaccia with pepperoni. We ordered the pepperoni and the Freda pizza and I'm pretty sure my ancestors felt it. The pepperonis were so crispy and curled they looked like tiny meat rollercoasters screaming "WHEEEE!" as they launched flavor fireworks in my mouth. The Freyda's Alfredo sauce was so outrageously creamy and garlicky I considered starting a fan club and making matching T-shirts. This is a less dense version of a Detroit pizza. A square pie with half chicken Alfredo and half Hawaiian style. I'm not a big Alfredo sauce, but this was soo good. The sauce wasn't too heavy with big chunks of chicken and fresh spinach. The Hawaiian pizza, or as they call it the "Waikiki Sneaky" was a bonkers. Spam, brick cheese, pineapple, pickled jalapeños, and banana peppers. This pizza scratched that spicy itch. I loved that they crisped up the spam before adding to the pizza. Let's start off with the fact that I am a huge pizza guy. The arancini might have been my favorite of the three as it was cooked perfectly and had a really great flavor. The pizzas were the whole reason we came here and by far, we were not disappointed. We had a classic cheese pizza and then tried the Waikiki Sneaky and the Fredo for some specialty pies. For a classic cheese, I thought it was very good. I like to judge pizza places on how good you can make a standard pie and they hit all the marks here. Which led me to know that the specialty pies were also going to be good. My favorite was the Waikiki Sneaky. Spam on pizza? Sign me up. Also I do like pineapple on pizza. It gets a bad rep but I will say it complimented the spicy red sauce, jalapenos, and banana peppers perfectly. I would go back for this pizza alone anytime. I don't get it, so I ask again, can I get my check. Ignored. So I wait longer. New bartender, I say hey I asked the other bartender for my check, can I please pay??? He said, you have to be patient. Patient was 30 minutes ago when I asked the first 2 times. how much more patient do I have to be to give you money???? But bartender #2 was sure to let me know, there is a line outside, and they don't really need me anyway, they are busy. I told him bartender to bartender, you don't keep your guest waiting for 30 minutes for a check and then tell them to be patient. He dis firmly tell me never to come back ... you got it buddy.... So I learned a great hack! To get free food, go when it's busy, offer multiple more than one person multiple times to pay.... they'll make you leave when you when you try to do the right thing . While staying on our last leg of our trip, we foregoed our lofty city plans to nap and then 'trek' over to this really cool pizza spot, as recommended by Yelp, of course, but we were originally interested in delivery to our hotel. We decided to walk to this place and we weren't disappointed. We loved the cozy but sports like local pizza/'Italian pub' feel of this place. We showed up at the right time because the place became full before we knew it and everyone was watching the Dodgers V. Toronto baseball game. Did I just stumble to the best grandma slice I have ever had?! I was working nearby and was craving a small lunch, so what's better than a pizza slice! I just wanted a slice to go, but didn't mind the wait to see the hype as I am always on the lookout for great pizza places! They mainly sold grandma pizzas by the slice. If you aren't aware, grandma has the crispness of a thin crust but some fluffiness you get from a pan or sicilian pizza. It's called grandma because it's basically making pizza in a thin tray. The classic is their regular marinara with cheese and basil. Oh my god it was so goooood!! Had that crisp, chewiness, and flavors were so on point. Marinara was to die for. Hard to beat a $6 slice of pizza in downtown SF. High quality ingredients and was the perfect bite to eat while walking down First Thursdays Street Festival on 2nd Street. Chill vibe and cozy atmosphere! The only issue we ran into was waiting about 20 minutes for our pizza, just to find out it had been buried behind other orders and was a bit cold when it got to us. It was a really busy night so we understand how it could slip by, but I imagine the pizza would've tasted even better if it were hot. The restaurant is dimly lit with a few tables and a bar for people to sit at. I would say that this pizza place is on the pricier side since one flat little slice was $5. However, even though it's pricey it was delicious. I rarely see broccolini as a topping so that was interesting for me. It had a little kick to it thanks to the Calabrian chilies but the spice was pretty mild so if you can't really handle spice it won't be an issue. The pizza was garlicky and the broccolini worked great with the sausage and pecorino. This is not a traditional take on pizza, don't go here expecting to see regular pepperoni pizza. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. They offer round, grandma-style (square sheet pan), and Detroit-style pizzas. They're all great. If I'm getting something to go, I either get two grandma slices ($5-7 depending on which one), or a whole Detroit and split that between lunch and dinner. When I'm eating in, I always get the Fried Broccollini [sic] and the Cheese Curds ($9 each). These are SO. GOOD. The cheese curds also come with dipping sauces; pro tip: you can use these with your crusts too! The pizzas are good, but the Detroit style is definitely oily--as it should be, but just keep that in mind. Drinks are okay; I would honestly skip the cocktails and just stick with beer. The online menu is appreciably... eclectic. The vibe inside is nice; they have a record player right behind the bar counter. Unfortunately there isn't a great line of sight to the TVs from a lot of the seats; it's almost like they're positioned for the staff instead. My one quibble with them is with pickup orders. Sometimes, if you call in an order to pick up, they'll charge you a delivery fee. Oh, and if you customize your pizza, check your toppings when you pick it up--they've forgotten to add my toppings a few times, but still charged me for them! read more
