We showed up at the right time because the place became full before we knew it and everyone was watching the Dodgers V. Toronto baseball game. Our server, as all, were wearing bunny ears, which we found both hilarious and disarming. My husband ordered the pepperoni, deep dish, Chicago pizza, and I ordered the thin crust with mushrooms and black olives. Both were very well dressed pizzas! Yum! We ordered the pepperoni and the Freda pizza and I'm pretty sure my ancestors felt it. The pepperonis were so crispy and curled they looked like tiny meat rollercoasters screaming "WHEEEE!" as they launched flavor fireworks in my mouth. The Freyda's Alfredo sauce was so outrageously creamy and garlicky I considered starting a fan club and making matching T-shirts. It was late at night when me and my friends stumbled across pie punks. We were hungry and in the mood for pizza and just so happened to be near pie punks. The restaurant is dimly lit with a few tables and a bar for people to sit at. I would say that this pizza place is on the pricier side since one flat little slice was $5. However, even though it's pricey it was delicious. I rarely see broccolini as a topping so that was interesting for me. It had a little kick to it thanks to the Calabrian chilies but the spice was pretty mild so if you can't really handle spice it won't be an issue. The pizza was garlicky and the broccolini worked great with the sausage and pecorino. This is not a traditional take on pizza, don't go here expecting to see regular pepperoni pizza. Overall it was a decent meal, but for its price I wouldn't frequent this place. read more

We wrapped up around 9:30pm, most groups trickled out around 8:45pm. Overall based on the food we ordered would be more of a 3.5 but the service and the free slice bump this up to a 4 star. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. They offer round, grandma-style (square sheet pan), and Detroit-style pizzas. They're all great. If I'm getting something to go, I either get two grandma slices ($5-7 depending on which one), or a whole Detroit and split that between lunch and dinner. When I'm eating in, I always get the Fried Broccollini [sic] and the Cheese Curds ($9 each). These are SO. GOOD. The cheese curds also come with dipping sauces; pro tip: you can use these with your crusts too! The pizzas are good, but the Detroit style is definitely oily--as it should be, but just keep that in mind. Drinks are okay; I would honestly skip the cocktails and just stick with beer. The online menu is appreciably... eclectic. The vibe inside is nice; they have a record player right behind the bar counter. Unfortunately there isn't a great line of sight to the TVs from a lot of the seats; it's almost like they're positioned for the staff instead. My one quibble with them is with pickup orders. Sometimes, if you call in an order to pick up, they'll charge you a delivery fee. I was hoping the Tomato Pie would be similar to the Tony's Margherita pizza and that the Trader Vics Mai Tai would be similar to the Smugglers Cove version. They were not. Our experience at Pie Punks yesterday was not the best. We decided to go there after checking out reviews, which were pretty good, and their website, which featured pictures of NY's CBGB and Blondie's Debbie Harry. Sounds right up my alley! We walked in right as a table opened up. After we sat down, I took in the ambience. This place was not punk at all! It looked too "nice" to be punk, a big screen tv was airing a basketball game, and the music playing alternated between jazz and Motown. When the server came to take our order, we asked about the sign board out front which advertised "Slice + Pint $11." He confirmed my suspicions that it was only for a classic cheese grandma slice and a Coors Banquet - which are priced in the menu as $5 and $6, respectively, so it was not a special deal at all. I knew I wanted a grandma slice (the style originates from Long Island, NY). I just spent a month in NY and loved all the pizza I had when there and craved it again. My husband had a slice of pepperoni and a slice of sausage. We shared an Aviator Salad and the Crispy Broccolini. For drinks I had a glass of Pinot Grigio while my husband had a hazy IPA. Our favorite dish was the salad. I hate to say it but after having so much great pizza in NY, the slice I had here fell flat. To me, It kind of tasted like a frozen pizza. We asked for our bill and the server brought back a POS machine. He told us the total and it came out to $20 more than expected. We asked to see an itemized printed bill and he told us he could not do that. We asked why and then he went back and brought one after all. Suddenly, the total was for the correct amount except it added a fee for a credit card purchase when we were paying with cash. Needless to say, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. We joked that a better name for this place would be "Pie Punk'd."' The lesson here is always look at your bill before paying, no matter where you eat. read more
