I know the staff didn't pour the concrete, but I don't think there should be tables in that patio corner. If we had a ball, it would've rolled off the table. I don't typically like pizza crust but theirs had the right crisp-to-softness ratio if that makes sense. The pizza also came with 3 dipping sauces (marinara, ranch, and goat cheese fondue). Marinara was my favorite! -Glass of Chardonnay - Inverted: I believe this was an in-house or local brand the bartender recommended for a white wine. Was on the sweeter side but very tasty. -Small Simple Salad: had beets, lettuce, arugula, cabbage, tomatoes with a a light vinaigrette dressing. It was awkward seeing the other 5 waitresses just huddled in the corner chatting, but I guess they didn't have anything better to do. It was the meal that through me off. The hummus was good but my first reaction when picking up a slice of cucumber was that it was kinda 'slippery.' I even said to bf, 'I don't think these veggies are good...I'll probably vomit later.' The carrot seemed edible but the sliced red bell pepper had that same texture as well. I ate less than a few and used the bread to dip instead...and I know I should have said something but I didn't. My spouse and I were looking for a good place for pizza and found Pie Tap. We checked out the Yelp reviews and saw it was highly recommend by fellow Yelpers. The decor of the restaurant was nice but it would have been nice if it was brighter, but that's a minor issue. The best parts of the restaurant are the wait staff and he food. Our waitress was really friendly and quite knowledgeable about the menu. Her recommendations were very helpful and allowed us to get a good taste for their food (which is delicious). The food was tasty and not bland with just the right amount of flavor in the pizza and chicken meatball appetizer. They have salt and pepper on the table but you really don't need it as the food is good as is. I'm a regular and although my order was below expectations initially, I left satisfied. Jordan was the service for the bar tonight and she remembers me and what I order even without seeing me for a month. I love this but never expect it. I've driven 6.5 hours then had meetings and nothing is in the fridge so I go to Pie Tap. I decide I'll try something different and order lasagna. I was sorry to tell the manager that I wouldn't eat the dry layers of noodle with hardened cheese and a burnt& dry roll. I tell her I'm planning to pay for this meal, nothing free, but I won't pay for dry, hard pasta (Or I could go to Fazollis). it takes a while ( baked lasagna, so yeah) but I'm so disappointed to see a center cut just as dry, I pinched the cheese between two finger without any moisture/stretch and the manager brought it asking what I think. I first pinch the dry/ baked cheese and her reply was that it's baked in the oven. I understand this and that it's probably done ahead of time in a large portion. I found out the Executive Chef was on vacation and there's no on duty kitchen manager. I don't like complaining and I'm in customer service so I speak with a smile and courtesy. This manager marched across the bar side and stood. I asked if the was the manager then introduced myself. I asked her name as it wasn't offered. Tip: they will let you split a pie and try multiple topping combos - Do It. Desert: Donuts, or should I say large donut holes covered in sugar served with chocolate or honey dippers. They were the low point of the meal unfortunately. With all the dense flavors and carbs, the donuts need some sort of compote or acid to lighten the flavors (I.e., blackberry compote). Rating: There is not a detractor for Pie Tap that keeps them from being a 5 star for me and we will go back. The rating comes down to preference of flavor. The pizza was thin and crispy with perfectly puffed crust. Everything we watched come out of the oven looked amazing, though, from blueberry pancakes and doughnuts to garlic knots and meatballs. Really great pizza and the vibe is amazing! BUT I would only come back because of Steven. Our server was a young lady and she only came and checked on us once, while Steven was taken care of the table next to us. Update: We gave this place another try on a Saturday night around 6pm last week. We were seated immediately at the kitchen bar area, which over looks the food preperation. We ordered the goat cheese fondue to start, and it was fantastic. It came with some jam and a loaf of bread, and the bread was perfect. I ordered a drink that I cant remember the name of- Cowboy something? It was amazing. We ended up ordering 2 more! We ordered the Proscuitto and Chicken pizzas. Both us of were very happy with our choices. I think we could have split one, but it was nice to try both. I ended up taking the prosciutto leftovers home, and it is hard to heat up the next day because you have to take all the arugala off first. Still good though! For dessert we had the chocolate cake, and again, it was great. The reason I deducted a star- since we were sitting at the food prep area, we could see everything that was going on. This included when one of the employees used the same knife that she was using to cut food with to then open multiple plastic wrapped items from a box, and then also used the knife to reach something from a shelf above her. She did not replace the knife before then using it to prepare more food, and it really grossed me out. It also took a little long to have a server sent to us and get our drink at the beginning- despite there not being many people in the restaurant. Our server was fantastic once she stopped by however. This is pretty good pizza. The crust is thin with nice soft thicker edges. It is made in large brick oven with supposedly only 4 ingredients (flour, water, salt and yeast?). There are certain phrases in the English language that never fail to elicit favorable responses. "Three-day weekend." "Open bar." "Starring Penelope Cruz." So it is with "pizza and beer." This is almost impossible to screw up as even the most cardboard-like of pizzas and palette-insulting beers can sometimes unite in a tag-team of something resembling pleasure. Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar has multiple enticing words in its name, thus insinuating this is going to be nothing short of spectacular. And for the most part, it is! To put it succinctly, this is one workshop you should not skip out on. Seven of us came here last Monday for a work happy hour event, and the first reaction I had when I parked was one of befuddlement. There is a banner hanging above the door promoting a "$5 'til 5:00" special. Thinking perhaps we are operating in a time zone across an ocean, I was hoping happy hour ended at 5:00 a.m., even though I now fall asleep before the 10:00 news these days. The reality is happy hour runs from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. If you think that's counter to about 99.9 percent of the other establishments in the area, you're correct. Then again, if you are ever off and looking for a sweet place to day drink, this place has a diverse wallet-friendly selection. We walked in and a hostess at the stand near the door seated us in a banquette-style table along the wall not too far from the entrance. There is a full bar with plenty of seats running the length of the wall to the left when you enter, an open kitchen making up the back wall, and a simple patio of tables, chairs and not a whole lot else to the right. Various tables are peppered throughout the dining room, and even when the place was hopping, you could still hear yourself think and speak. (This is a big plus, though it could be a detriment if you're on a date and you cannot wait to be rid of them.) Our server, Kyle, was cool. One of us had been here before, but the other six of us got the full scoop, complete with an overview of the beers, the menu and the cooking techniques. He kept our table happy with refills and other requests, and I have to say the food runners on duty were equally attentive and helpful, as well. We started with the garlic knots and charcuterie board. The knots were competent, but that board was no joke. Absolutely everything on it was delicious, and I could totally see me coming here in the future, downing a couple beers, chomping my way through the board and tapping my foot to the classic rock being pumped through the speakers. It was about this time when we were passing the board around and sampling the various items that we realized it's really dark in here. I've been in basement bars with chainsmokers that were brighter. Then again, after awhile your eyes adjust, so either sit back and pretend you're in the Batcave, or sit on the covered patio and enjoy the weather. For our meals, we got a chicken melt (awesome), the rotisserie chicken (awesome squared) and both a salami and chicken pizza. This is where things get a little confusing. The toppings on the pizzas are glorious, and worthy of scooping them up to shove in your mouth when they slide off the crust. Ironically, the dough was a letdown for all of us. Because I thought there might be a quiz later, I paid attention to the elevator speech given to us earlier, specifically about how the dough here goes through a 96-hour maturity period for maximum enjoyment, or something. I don't know if we got dough that was "going through a phase" and rebelled at the 95-hour mark, but there was nothing to get excited about on that front. Now, it should also be pointed out this place is relatively new at the time of this writing, and the kitchen may still be working out some kinks. I get it, and it happens. Really, with the fair pricing, the drink selection and a menu that delivered on the majority of the dishes ordered, there are plenty of reasons to come back to Pie Tap. The salami was exactly what you'd expect, but on the heavy/greasy/saltier side, to be expected with a mainly meat topping pizza. the chicken was good too, but the other pizzas left a better impression. the caesar salad was meh. $6 gets you a small (like, 5 romaine leaves) and i think i got some kind of stomach illness from it. but that wouldn't stop me from coming back here (just wouldn't get the salad). If your crew isn't super famished, i'd order 2 pizzas for every three people.
