Was around the area for my Bachelor Party in mid-August and stopped by here due to the good reviews and feeling like eating meat with the guys. We didn't make a reservation, so we did have to wait for a bit before being seated, but we were able to get a seat inside. It's a bit on the rustic/Western side, and there is also a patio and bar outside, but it was nice to be able to talk with my groomsmen indoors as it was pretty warm outside. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich, since I don't get to have it often, and it was fantastic. The fries and barbeque sauce were delicious, and the bun was the perfect consistency to go along with the soft and yummy pulled meat. I ate the sandwich super fast, and was nice and full after. After wine tasting we decided to give PI another try. It's been a while since we were here, and it turned out pretty well. They have changed the operation so that you order at a counter inside and they bring it out to you. We sat outside on a Friday evening and it was very nice. The menu is focused on burgers and hot sandwiches. We got burgers and fried chicken sandwiches. They were delicious! We also got a big serving of onion rings and they were very tasty and a good proportion. Overall, it was a good early dinner and we also enjoyed a couple beers on draft. I've seen so many mixed reviews of this place, that I decided to go several times before I wrote my review so I could be sure my positive experiences weren't a mistake. This place is fun, rustic and has good food and drinks. We've eaten in the dining areas and at the bar where William has always been great and makes a solid cocktail. The first time we went in the hostess seated us at a table, near the bar, in a room that was mostly empty. It took about ten minutes to get our server to come help us, but once we were attended to by her she did a great job and our overall service and food was very good. My favorites for a quick bite and drinks are the tri tip tacos that are finely sliced tender pieces of smoky tri tip and a spicy smoky mescal margarita, but you have to ask for it special. I went when they first opened - the food was not good, and neither was the service. But I figured over a year later I should try again, so I went today - not a fan. You order at the counter, then they text your phone when it's ready- but they didn't explain that, so we waited for 20min until randomly checking our phones and then realizing our food was ready. We had ordered drinks and had to walk to 3 different stations before we were able to get our soda and iced tea. And the bartender who got them for us acted so irritated about having to help (which I get, there were 3 other staff hiding out in the kitchen ignoring ua when we were calling to them) The food also just wasn't good, nothing was seasoned, and the biscuit was hard as a rock. Neither of us finished our meals because they just weren't worth finishing. Their prices are low, which is one reason why we went... Definitely won't be back. We stopped in Pig Iron for Sunday brunch sitting in the shade on their outdoor patio and were glad we did! The hand-formed beef burger was excellent as was their tri tip torta sandwich. The tri tip was sliced thinner so it was easier to eat. (I hate it when the tri tip is cut thick and taking a bite involves wrestling with it.) The onion rings were nice and crispy. I am sad to only be reviewing this as good: when we went in February 2024, it would have been 5 star but it seems to have changed owner or approach to become more casual? Last time we went, they had waiters serving tables and a really lovely sit down menu, but now it's more of a counter serve/ burger style place. That said, it's still really great. There's an awesome energy in the bar, which is decorated in a quirky way and has a really cool outside space with fire pits and string lights. There's an intimate bar with live music to one side too, though it's not too loud if you're in the eating area. Everyone in the space feels local and friendly, which is always so welcome when you've come from a city which is a bit more anonymous. The food now is counter-serve, as I said above, but it's still fresh and high quality. There are a range of burgers and sandwiches, with veggie options. The salads are hilariously large and come in big metal mixing bowls. I had a vegetarian toasted sandwich and the bread was a definite highlight- it felt locally baked perhaps. Very cute locally owned and operated restaurant situated in downtown historic Templeton on Main Street. I cannot resist businesses that incorporate historic accents into the atmosphere. From the rustic style hand painted signs to the wooden floors. They even have their own little mercantile supplied with gifts including shirts and candles. I ordered the street tacos for $12 and tried three different tacos (chicken, tri tip, pork). Must say: the pork is the winner! The servicing size is great for an appetizer or small meal. The waitress spoke highly of the Mac and cheese. She was so right! Got Mac and cheese with pulled pork. Delicious! Will definitely be back. There's really nothing that would entice me to make a second trip to this restaurant. Nothing unique or mouthwatering. The menu is very limited. Portions are small. A half order of onion rings was $7.95 and they were not fresh or hand battered. To top it off, the Pig Iron does not carry cider and their wine is on tap! The only dessert offered was ice cream and a cookie - none of it was handmade or original. Sadly, I don't see this establishment being around in the future. The middle is waiting, kitchen in the back and merch. Then the third is dinning. It was raining, so inside. My party was greeted by multiple people. The wait was very short. I ordered the House Lemonade, Onion Rings, Veggie Burger with Fries, and Carrot Cake. First, I really liked the lemonade. Not too sweet and not too tart. The Onion Rings maybe the best around. They are crunchy with a good salty grit, but moist onion inside. The fries on the other hand were cool because it was different, but lacked any soft, fluffy, potato inside. The veggie burger was pretty good. They make the patty in house and you can tell. Moist and veggie crunch. The bun was nice and soft. The grilled onions were a great touch, love that onion sweetness. Now for the Carrot Cake. I was bummed they didn't have their cheesecake, so I settled, or so I thought. The Carrot Cake was so decadent, fresh veggie, moist cake, sweet fatty cream cheese frosting, goodness, that it's the best one I've had outside of my Mother's. Great Job. Buyer beware there is also a gift shop attached, adjacent to the lone uni-sex bathroom. Collectively we made a wise decision to order family style because there were so many order-able items and none of us wanted to regret a singular order.... Here it goes: Pig Iron Burger A unique pork+beef patty, Carmelized onions, American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, house pickles, house burger sauce, brioche bun. Patty seemed manufactured... slow start... Fried chicken sandwich Fried chicken, chipotle aioli, Cole slaw, pickles, sliced brioche. Dark meat thigh with deep colored batter, bun is soft and easily biteable. Fries (present in burger plates) are flat crunchy strips of potato bliss. The sandwich however, was good eats too. Pulled pork sandwich House smoked pork, bbq sauce, pickles, coleslaw Hint of zestiness, purple cabbage strips with kick and character. Here's a top-3... just a lot of flavor complexity and tenderness. The bbq sauce is very subtle but sharp. Biscuit and gravy plate House made buttermilk biscuit topped with country sausage gravy. Eat it quick before the thick gravy starts to coagulate, because it's savory only while hot, otherwise pretty regular. Tri tip Hash House potatoes, peppers and onions, sunny side up eggs, chipotle cremo, cotijo, and green onion. Add in a little guacamole and the mix is hearty and adventurous. Served in a omelette sized cast iron skillet. Top-3. Main Street Waffurrito This one is a must-order Top 3... Two scrambled eggs, with bacon, white cheddar, crispy potatoes, cilantro creams, wrapped in a waffle pressed flour tortilla served with guacamole plus hot sauce. Amazing "waffle" crust but it's really a charred tortilla packed with hearty breakfast ingredients - you can tell are fresh from the farm. Fun to crunch, fun to chew, wondrous to swallow. We have been going here since they opened and in the beginning, they had a lot of issues with service and often I would get my food and it was different than what it said on the menu. We stopped going for a long time and decided to give them a try after about six months. They had changed their menu and still seem to have issues with their service staff. We went again six months after that and even though we had a buzzer for our food, it never went off (it had been 40 minutes!) Our waitress was nowhere to be found, and when I went up to the counter to ask about our food, they brought it out. I took it to the table and it was not even warm. It was a total bummer.
