Cool spot. There are a lot of neat speciality drinks to try. Swanky, underground feel with a huge plant wall. We had great service, checking in on our booth often and have some good drink recommendations too. A little bit of a maze to get to, not sure we would have been able to find it if we didn't go with friends who had been there before. But that also adds to the fun of it, that is seems like a bit of a secret to get down to. read more

It's another local speakeasy here in Desert Ridge. The ambiance is a bit bright for this style of bar and the stools at bar I found to be really uncomfortable. And I have to says I was not impressed with the drinks or the service. After we ordered our drinks we had to wait a good 10 to 15 minutes before we got them. Plus add on the high cost of drink that makes an uncomfortable experience. Not sure I'll be coming back here again anytime soon unfortunately. read more

Omg. Couldn't wait to try this place out ! Love how cool it is to try to find it. Very great funky feeling when I walked in. Bartenders are very knowledgeable!! I asked a lot of questions and didn't feel stupid when I did!! Lol So I began to order my cocktail. Oh the description of them.. how does one decide? Well you just keep trying them!! We finally made it in to pigtails. Usually we're next door at whining pig but decided to get cocktails this time. Our party of 4 was seated pretty quickly and the staff was all so nice. I don't recall what we ordered but every cocktail was delicious and so unique! The place is really cool and would be fun for date night or celebrating something fun. Highly recommend checking them out if you're in the area and looking for a cool spot. read more

Update because apparently this place has gotten worse! Came back because I thought it would be a cool place to take my sister for her 21st birthday and the bartenders are so rude! Decided to give it a second chance and was treated no better, even by different employees. I dont understand why bartenders here have such poor attitudes! They gave her hastle about being served and we are all servers and know the laws. The atmosphere and cool decor are not at all worth coming in and being treated like a burden. read more

IMost days are barely adequate bartenders at the pigtails. Sunday, they have a good bartender named Austin. He's good. Overall, not worth the visit, the beertenders are way better at the whining pig. read more

Went with some friends for cocktails and appetizers. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese, bruschetta and a dozen oysters. Drinks, food and service were absolutely great. Three apps and two drinks each was only $140 a couple. We'll be back for sure with our adult kids. read more

The coolest hidden gem at Desert Ridge! I've been a handful of times and has a blast each time. They have really good cocktails (one time the bartender doled out an experimental drink he was working on that was very strong and fruity, it was amazing). They have games like "that's what she said" and "cards against humanity" that are great conversation starters and comfy sitting areas that have a very VIP feel. Last but not least, the speakeasy wouldn't be complete without a secret exit! Let's hope you can find it, but if not, have another drink and enjoy the greenest wall you'll ever see. read more

With Pigtail's dining room just next to the Whining Pig, it's less of a hidden "speakeasy" then we expected, but still a fun spot none the less. With that being said, it was nice to have a drink next store while we waited for our table at Pigtails. The dim lighting and plant lined wall makes for a fun atmosphere once inside. Very creative cocktail menu, we thoroughly enjoyed our selections and even had some fun letting the bartenders create new ones for us to try based off our flavor pallets. This dark and alluring bar is so laid back and makes you feel like you are in another place. The leather booths and large bar area makes this a great place to come and grab a drink and relax. The dark lighting makes you forget about time. You also are able to go to the whining pig and bring back a bottle of wine to drink here if your would like to. The vibe in here is super cool! It's hidden downstairs and you ah w to walk through whining pig to get in the spot. They have couches and a big bar. They have "happy hour" till 7 but the happy hour prices aren't happy hour prices. The signature cocktails are still $8-10 and the "happy hour wine" is $10. We didn't get any food because it didn't really sound good and was overpriced. The cocktails I had were so tart that I felt like I was sucking on a lemon. Came here with some friends who were in town visiting, we love speakeasies (did I spell that right?), and it didn't disappoint. The place is in the back of the whining pig, and apparently has a replica restaurant downtown as well. It's a chill vibe with some raw seafood selections and craft cocktails on the menu. I had an old-fashioned, my go to (I'm boring like that with my cocktails), but it was amazing. Some old fashioneds these days are just over priced shots of whiskey, but whoever made this one truly knew how to make a good one. The Demerara syrup along with the orange and cherry combo were all perfectly portioned. Alright, enough about that, the other drinks were all really good too! This wasn't a bar that threw drinks together and poured them in nice glasses to call them "Craft Cocktails", they actually took pride in their drinks and ingredients and it absolutely showed. Definitely gonna be back for round 2 soon! read more

It's a maze to get here, but it's part of the fun. (Take the elevator down, head into Whining Pig past the bar on the left towards the pink Pigtails sign, take the hallway to the right, and follow the sounds of the Glass Animals playlist) What I don't like is that it's really really open. Sure, it's dimly lit, but it doesn't give off that sexy, dark corner feeling that I love in a speakeasy. This is where you go with a group of friends who you want to impress before moving on to the next spot. Which is fine, just not what I wanted. That being said, the cocktails were better than fine. We have tried a good selection of the menu at this point and haven't had a single bad one. We were sitting at a booth (with an extremely low table?) during a recent visit and our server rarely came by to check on us, which meant empty water glasses and fewer drinks ordered. I think she was down there by herself, so we eventually ended up walking up to the bar to order a cocktail. read more

Just moved to phoenix so I'm new in the social scene. I love finding new speakeasies and this was good first find. :) it's located in the district at the desert ridge marketplace. The whole area has a nice vibe to socialize in and hang out in. It wasn't super loud on a Friday when I went which is nice. It would be nice to check it out if friends come to visit. I really like the speakeasy feel of this place. The dark decor and cool basement feel seems just right. So many drinks that I had to google the ingredients to made for interesting perusing. The music was a little questionable when I arrived...it started with annoying top 40 mess but thankfully turned a little better by the time I left. As a speakeasy I feel the music definitely needs to be different than what was in The Whining Pig. Two separate places two different feels deserve different music. The atmosphere of Pigtails seems a little darker in mood and tone and the music should reflect that. But over all I really enjoyed Pigtails and I will certainly go again!! read more

My boyfriend and I just moved into the area and stumbled upon this gem last night for our first date night out since our move in. The place was relaxing and fun! Our bartenders Kenny & Megan we're so sweet and gave us great recommendations for cocktails and Whiskey. This bar is a refreshing change in the area! The bar has a wonderful vibe and delicious drinks! The bartenders are inviting and so knowledgeable about the different types of alcohol. Also, for other bourbon lovers, they had, at one point, Pappy Van Winkle but alas it was gone. This little gem would be perfect if they had their food menu available. They had one item available, and it was a charcuterie board, which, honestly... It was thrown together pretty haphazardly. And when it was delivered at the table, they didn't bother to explain what the specific items were. Pancetta? Bresaola? Who knows? Their drink list is great, the decor is great (library-wall exist and walk of greenery are fantastic), and I asked the bartender to make me a non-sweet mocktail, and it was perfection. Finally Desert Ridge is filling up the empty caves with interesting viable businesses! I live close and just sighed heavily at the lonely spots that seemed to become more of the landscape here. I'm so excited that new life is being breathed into here, and the shining star is Whining Pig and it's secret sister Pigtails. I always travel uptown for the cool vibes, but all those feels are here! I am like many of the other reviewers - reluctant to speak of this place for fear that everyone will be in love with it as I am - but I find myself compelled to post. The bartenders are adorbs. The ambiance is swell. The drinks are lovingly concocted and the makers very prideful about their origins. As well they should be. Advice?? Stay far far away.....so I always have a spot at the bar. read more

This new and unique craft cocktail concept is brought to you by the owners of The Whining Pig. Pigtails was an idea we had from a couple of years ago, which revolved around the thought of "The Whining Pig with a spit shine". Moving away from the beer and wine and into the wild and creative world of the craft cocktail. Although we still stick to the core ideas of The Pig, we decided to elevate the experience with a speakeasy design and handmade beverages by talented and entertaining bartenders. We look forward to this new journey and hope Pigtails becomes the perfect compliment to what many already enjoy about The Whining Pig. Cheers!

The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

This was a strong rum drink. Sweet, but strong. Really good though, very interesting flavors.
