Well, slap your Mama cause the St. Louis ribs was kicking! This place is small, but don't let that fool you as the flavor of the food packs a big punch. Came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The place offers limited seating. Not ideal for big groups. Luckily for us, we did not have to wait too long. A table of four was leaving, so we were able to grab it. They have a nice menu on the wall and the lady at the counter was fairly helpful in explaining to me the options. She even offered a free sample of a little bowl of pickled vegetable while we waited. Plus right there. I had the ribs with two sides. Collar greens and mac and cheese. The ribs were spicy. Charred just right. Came off the bone easily. Just be prepared to have a cup of water in handy or, in my case, a cold bottle of Coke. Collar greens was sweet and delicious. Little bits of meat in there. The mac and cheese was the x factor. Creamy, cheesy, and had a little spice to it. Did I taste Doritos in there? Not sure. As I sat there marinating and staring at my plate, with Nirvana's Smell Like Teen Spirit playing in the background, I can't help thinking..man, this will be painful later. read more

Excellent food, and no surprise considering its a child of Mint, an eclectic foodie store/restaurant just up the street. One might think it's a little odd to be a foodie bbq place and it is, but it isn't bad if you just roll with it. We showed up in the early afternoon on a Sunday when it wasn't too busy and got one of the nicer indoor seats by the window. Being newbies, we weren't sure how it worked, but the staff graciously got us figured out and we ordered at the counter and then sat down. I got the pulled pork sandwich, my wife got the half pound of brisket (knowing half of that was coming home) and we ordered the hibiscus tea and the cucumber and fennel salad. We also got the Thai pork wings for starters. Now, this is where Mint comes in. Hibiscus tea at a bbq place? Really? And it's really really good tea? Look for it. Roll with it. How about those Thai pork wings? Definitely unusual, really pretty good, but maybe needs a little more work. I'd either spice them up or think about making them juicier and sweeter. After watching "Chef" and knowing about the Mint connection, I do want to try them. In a place like this, you have to do have to explore the eclectic. But let's come back to the main food for just a second to express full support for awesome delivery on standards like pulled pork and slaw and the brisket. Nicely done! And those sauces on the table. Whoa! So just don't go in there thinking Rudy's or The Salt Lick or Dinosaur. Pik Nik is not any of those. Instead, imagine you went to Paris and you found this really cool bbq place tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Boom, that's it. My only grief was the music. Interesting and eclectic, but after listening to the lyrics, totally not cool. I can't recommend bringing your kids if that kinda stuff is in the air. Me and my wife were in the area and she was in the mood for bbq so of course I checked out what yelp had to offer and saw this place had the best reviews. We found the place very easily and saw there is nearby parking which is awesome. We walk in and it is a very tiny place there are a couple of tables and side tables with stools to sit on and eat your meal. We met the owner of the place and she was so sweet and super awesome she was very nice to my wife and chatted with us. We ordered the 3 meat platter which is very reasonably priced we got the pulled pork the smoked sausage and the St. Louis style ribs. We got two sides with this meal also so we chose the max and cheese and the sweet potatoes wedges and my wife wanted the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The meal was excellent the smoked sausage had a great taste and had very unique seasoning that i had never had before but by far the best part of the meal was the fried green tomatoes I had never had them before and by themselves they were excellent but when you add the tarter sauce that was given on the side it adds another level of whoa to that meal. We will be coming back for more for sure. The only flaw is the limited seating we had to sit right next to the door and whenever it opened the wind would slap you but is not the owners fault. I'm so glad that the restaurant was busy constantly and I hope they continue there success. read more

WOW. The food here is TOP TIER. My friend and I have been raving about going here but somehow we never found the time. Well thank God we did. The welcome from the owner set the tone of the whole experience. Most owners aren't even present, let alone a proper greeting. There's no waiters, so we ordered our food at the counter and took a seat. However someone does come to bring your food and in a timely manner! I ordered beef brisket, mac and cheese and collard greens. One word AMAZING! The meat was so tender and juicy, the mac was so cheesy and the greens were seasoned to perfection. It exceeded my expectations! The only thing I wish is they had a larger drink (alcoholic) selections. I'm not a beer kind of girl. A summer cocktail would've tied everything together. I've been to this place twice and it's a great place for an area lacking barbecue (but how would a northerner know). The first time I got the brisket which was AMAZING. I very much liked the dry-rubbed ribs, and thought that the Quarter Rack (4-ribs) was not only good value at $7.50, but quite tasty, even without addition of a fine selection of their tasty sauces. The sides were outstanding and fresh, and my meal was beautifully presented. However, as much as I like PikNik, they charged $8 for a 12oz bottle of beer. Now, granted it was a nice, quality beer (Ithaca Flower Power IPA), but that's bordering on criminal. I read from other Yelpers that a can of Coke etc is $4. Anyway, I will raise my review to 5-stars if the pricing changes. In the meantime, I will head back and try other items to accompany my pricey beer. Now let me say, we waited for more than 35 minutes for our food. The seating is cute and casual, but not made for waiting for long periods. When the food came I was surprised by the portion size. I ordered 1/2 chicken and 2 sides for about $20. Now, at $20 I am not expecting a cornish game hen and a cup or fries and small cold slaw, the kind the diner gives you for free when you sit down. I mean it was embarrassingly small. To be that cheap with french fries is really cutting corners. So 3 tacos, a cuban sandwich, my baby chicken, 1 bottle of root beer, and three bottles of water cost $58 dollars with tax, with tip $66. I think that the $$ sign is a bit misleading. So, if you are hungry, have lots of time and bring lots of money. read more

I came to Tarrytown to do a photo shoot of the local cemetery where Washington Irving and other notable people are buried. Plus a visit of the castles nearby. I stopped here because I was shooting pictures on the corner and decided to give it a shot. I walked in a few minutes before they opened and was told they weren't ready to open to give them a few minutes. I asked to use the bathroom and they said to go ahead. They also let me sit I side while waiting for them to open. Once they were open I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fries were amazing! They were wedges freshly cut seasoned and fried. But the star was the sandwich. Best smoked pork if had in forever. The sauce wasn't packed on so you can taste the pork. The nice tender pieces were delicious. It didn't need sauce. I tried the sauces they had on the table. An original BBQ sauce, a hot BBQ sauce, and a hot mustard. All were amazingly tasty! Very yummy comfort food, a little tight as far as seating but the Mac n cheese was worth it!!

The only thing I can say is. Disappointing. Not even close to good BBQ. I ordered the sampler which consists of 1/4lb. Of either ribs, brisket or pulled pork(choice of two) and a piece of cornbread. Also ordered the Mac and cheese which is supposed to be amazing, their fried chicken(You can order half or whole) and peach cobbler. Each bite starting with the chicken all the way to the peach cobbler was progressively worse than the last. I have never been so disappointed with a meal. did not finish one course. They brine their chicken before frying. And whatever flavor combinations they're using us doesn't mesh and the breading is horrid. The brisket was more fat than cow and I like a little fatty meat, but that was absurd. Don't get me started on the ribs . Thick paste like consistency and had a stinky taste to the meat. The cornbread... the cornbread!! .. dryer than that of the Sahara desert. Peach cobbler was peach mush... my great gran or my 3 year old daughter might enjoy that, but it was DISGUSTING!! The food here was awesome. As some others have said, prices do seem high, but you get what you pay for. It is a high quality BBQ establishment with quality cuts of meat cooked to perfection. It was extremely warm here during our lunch which is why I took a star off. They also do not carry any unsweetened teas, which I think could be an easy fix. This place has great potential. I would like to see family meals that allow for choices and include samples of their star items, including corn bread. I will definitely return! read more
