Traveled to Reno from Genoa to bring my toddler to the Discovery museum. I was hungry for lunch and wanted to see what great places Reno had to offer. There were several places listed close by via Google, but I saw that Pine State was a 4 min walk from the museum. I'm so glad I chose to come here. Who knew Reno would have some amazing southern food?! It's a small spot with limited outdoor seating and minimal indoor seating with approximately 5-6 four tops, about the same amount of deuces, and 2 booths in the back for larger parties. You place your order at the register and they assign you a table. They do bring your food to the table, but you are expected to bus your own table. Their menu selection is huge from all their biscuit sandwiches they offer to special southern dishes to desserts and pastries. As odd as it sounds you'd think I had ordered a biscuit item, but instead I ordered: - Shrimp & Grits - Blueberry Cornmeal Pancake - Peach Cobbler Pop-Tart - Arnold Palmer Every single item I ordered was DELICIOUS!! The shrimp & grits were so tasty with a mushroom bacon gravy. I've had some of the best shrimp & grits in Atlanta, and this one comes close. Their cornmeal pancake was also delicious. My 1 1/2 yr old son pretty much ate the entire thing himself (I only had a few bites to try it) and it was probably 7.5-8" wide. It's served with butter and maple syrup. But their syrup is so thick like they reduced it down which gave it this delicious subtle molasses flavor. Ugh! My mouth is watering typing this. Last, but not least, the peach cobbler pop tart topped with an oat streusel and what looked like, marshmallow fluff. The pastry itself was so good. Flaky and buttery - you could tell their pastries are made from scratch in-house. The pastry had the proper amount of filling with lots of cinnamon peach flavor. I was so full that I only ate a third of it and brought the rest home. I regret not getting a biscuit to-go just to try. If their non-biscuit items were so delicious, I can only imagine how good their biscuits are. This place is worth the 50 minute drive for me. I would absolutely come again to try more items. You must give it a try.

Cute location in midtown next to Doppo. Exterior seating with some cover and very airy, bright and clean interior. Take a menu and order before getting a table. Service helpful and friendly. Obviously biscuits are a feature so tried The Moneyball, biscuits with sausage gravy and an over easy egg on top. Pretty solid. Nice fluffy biscuit, perfectly cooked egg and an interesting take on gravy... a little bit tangy which balances out the creaminess. Also ordered beignets with powdered sugar. Generous portion size but they were much heavier on the inside than traditional New Orleans beignets (more like a doughnut with a slightly crunchy outside). Also, because they were so dense a few were not fully cooked in the middle. The fully cooked ones were tasty. Overall a nice relaxing stop for lunch.

Random treat on Sunday. Wife wants to go to Pine State Biscuits...we go to Pine State Biscuits. Biscuits smothered in your choice a mushroom or sausage gravy. Think about this, where else can you get Brisket for breakfast?!? We enjoyed some wonderfully made scrambled eggs, collard greens and hash browns. The customer service is quick, the cashier and hosts are polite. Self bussing tables make for easy work. Whether indoor or outdoor, you'll enjoy the sounds of people enjoying their meal while outside, sure maybe a little bit of traffic too. Try their Diner Plate Special which is a combination of a biscuit, gravy, choice of sauce and 2 sides or The Money Ball Double Down which was an over easy egg over two biscuits and gravy. A great breakfast or brunch experience solo or with your family! I can't wait to go back and try their shrimp and grits!

One of my wife and I's go-to for a solid, delicious meal when we're stay-cationing in Reno. Service is sometimes lukewarm depending who's there, but on our last few visits it's been stellar. Seats can be hard to come by, but never impossible in my experience. Brunch is our favorite.

Such a great place - continues to have biscuits to die for. Service was super fast. My tip is to go for lunch instead of breakfast as the line isn't nearly as long and seating is a breeze. I'd love to see tator tots or potato hash instead of fries - the fries are mid but everything else is over the top incredible so it all balances out!

Wow the biscuits and gravy were absolutely delightful! The sausage gravy had a good amount of sausage and weren't too salty. The cashier suggested I try both gravies, and I'm glad I did. The biscuits are definitely the best part of the dish, they were soft, moist and chewy. They were so delicious I offered some to our entire table so everyone could try them. Husband had the blueberry pancakes. The portions here are generous! Be sure to order first, and then grab a table. Food comes out quickly and service was great. Can't wait to eat here again on our next trip to Reno. Btw, parking is all on the street. But it wasn't too hard to find a spot.

Cute little breakfast spot with an order-at-the-counter setup and self serve coffee. The biscuits and gravy were good, biscuits were soft, not dry. My son had the Reggie sandwich, he thought the gravy was a bit overpowering, so ordering it on the side might have been better to dip the sandwich in. The blueberry pancake was just okay, but the tri-tip hash brown breakfast plate was the star! We added protein- smoked brisket and it was nice juicy and tender Friendly staff and cute decor made it a great breakfast stop.

If you have not hit this gem for Breakfast when in Reno, your loss. Its a cozy little place thats always busy, if you go, bring your wallet, and your appetite , while the prices skew towards upscale, the portions and flavors are even bigger. The Brisket Biscuit is usually my goto, but we came later in day and Brisket was out, so I gave the Reggie Deluxe a spin. Food came out quick, and it was fantastic. Large Fresh viscuit with a large piece of fried chicken, a fried egg and cheddar cheese with sausage gravy. Everything was fresh & flavored well, word bote, the gravy is on the sweeter side but still great. The hash browns were crisp(just how I love them), and the Grits with Honey Butter and cheese were probably my favorite of all the bites.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it in. I got the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. I also tried a homemade pop tart. It was a banana pudding pop tart. It was so good. Service was quick. You order first at the counter and then they bring it out to you. The place is a bit small but also has some outside seating.

Fast and efficient service! The biscuit was delicious! Fresh! Chicken fried steak was ok. It's a quaint little spot in downtown Reno! Quite the morning. The biscuit was the best part

Huge fluffy biscuits! The Reggie Deluxe is as monstrously huge and delicious, the veggie patty was pretty good! Nice and golden toasty. We had the double mimosas. The line was LONG and would have loved to have lingered over another mimosa but you can sense the line of people bearing down in your table. Small, with some counter seating and a few outdoor tables.

Pine State Biscuits definitely delivers. I ordered the build your own breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, and apple butter jam, and it was a great combination of savory and slightly sweet. The biscuit itself really stood out light, flaky, and not overly salty, which made it the perfect base for the sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced.Customer service was wonderful, and the space had a lot of natural light, giving it a bright and welcoming feel. It's easy to see why this place is a popular choice for both breakfast and lunch. Definitely a spot I'd return to.

we split the reggie and the brisket so we could try a couple things

I had a great overall experience at Pine State Biscuits and would definitely come back, with a few notes. The facility was clean and welcoming, and the person at the register was genuinely friendly and helpful. I also loved the vibe--there's some really cool swag and decor on the walls that adds character to the space. Bonus points for having a solid selection of hot sauces available. Food-wise, there were some real highlights. The cinnamon roll with bourbon glaze was super yummy--honestly, it didn't even need frosting. I also tried the blueberry lemon cornmeal pancakes, which were excellent. I grabbed a peanut butter & jelly pop tart for later; the flavor was good, but the crust was a bit too chewy for my taste. I was hoping for more crunch and a stronger peanut butter flavor. For the mains, I had The Reggie Deluxe. It was good, but the gravy was surprisingly skimpy, which was a bit of a letdown. A biscuit dish like that should be absolutely smothered in gravy. We also tried the brisket biscuit--it was good, but not particularly memorable. The biggest disappointment, though, was the biscuits themselves. They were just okay and lacked flavor--like they needed more salt or butter. I couldn't help but compare them to biscuits I remember from places like KFC years ago or even Knott's Berry Farm--those had a richness and flavor that these didn't quite match. All in all, it was still a great experience. Friendly staff, clean space, and good food overall--just a few tweaks away from being truly outstanding.

Like you came to their home for a meal. My wife and I split the French Toast Platter, which was 2 slices of French Toast, eggs and we ordered the link sausage. The French Toast was solid. Just good basic French Toast. Nothing bougie, just good French Toast. The eggs were eggs but the sausage was quite good. Rich with flavor. The coffee, while unusually expensive for a dinner, was just meh. Nothing special nor nothing terrible. If you are looking for a good, warm, welcoming place for diner food, PJ's just might be the place.

It was still pretty crowded which was nice to see, so we grabbed a spot at the bar. The bartender was friendly and quick to serve us. We ordered some draft beers, they had a good selection available. We then ordered the Crab and Artichoke skillet as an appetizer, and the Stuffed Avocado salad and Fish and Chips as our entrees. The skillet came out first but shortly after we received our entrees. That was actually a good thing because they were a good compliment to eat all together. It was more than enough food for 2 people and everything was delicious. The stuffed Avocado salad was interesting and it was delicious. The fish and chips were good, the fish was more of a tender which was actually nice because it wasn't greasy. Not sure I would order it again because there are so many other good options on the menu, but it was good. The artichoke and Crab skillet was excellent as well. We both left satisfied and impressed by the overall quality and service, already planning to go back again when the patio opens because they will let you have dogs which is always a big bonus!
