Pintoh's khao soi was creamy with the right amount of spiciness, and in a super generous portion (as pictured... I could barely fit it all in my big bowl I usually use for pho at home!). I probably should have saved some for lunch the next day, but it was too delicious to stop eating until the last slurp. They offer 5% off take-out orders if you call in, 10% off wine with food orders, and $3.50 special on Thai beers. Preparation was fast, and everything was well-packaged after freshly cooked. Very lovely Thai restaurant within Oakland's City Center area. My friend suggested this place to have an after hour catch up session. What caught my eye was the high Yelp rating, the lovely photos that people put that visually demonstrated the distinct delightful eats that the restaurant offered, the decent selection of alcoholic beverages, and that they had happy hour when we were going to meet - on a weeknight (Friday) between 5-6pm. I arrived a bit early and decided to get a class of Riesling. It was half-off, and I wanted to wait until my friend came so we could sample each other's cocktails. The server was attentive and, despite the slight language barrier, was very patient, welcoming, and charming. When my friend arrived, we each ordered a specialty cocktail. It was delightful in taste and presentation, although the menu did not do a superb job at describing what a 'yuzu soju vodka' is... or a what I simple describe as an Alcoholic Thai Iced Tea would taste like. The Khao Soy was delightful. Bold in taste and was substantially filling. The only miss was that the noodles was significantly overpowering the toppings that it hand, and that the broth was minimal, so it seemed more like a sauce than a noodle soup. The roasted pork with Chinese broccoli in soy sauce was good. Nice flavor and fatty. It could have been more crispy in texture and the broccoli could have been more unique. I think a good splash of alcohol, which cooking, would have added a nice complexity to this dish. The papaya salad was good. Thai papaya salad tends to be a little less fishy than Laotian Papaya salad. It was perfect for me; but I typically like mine more 'Americanized', so take that with a grain of salt. Lastly, the pad kee mao we ordered was good too. It was a bit bland for what it was, despite being nicely decorated with fresh basil and peppercorn. It definitely had the spice factor, but lacked the punch that I was looking for. Overall, the food and drinks were good. There just wasn't anything exceptional about this place. The service would probably be the thing I enjoyed the most. read more

The restaurant has relatively authentic food, but with an added American twist. Some of their dishes are usually things you would find when you're in Thailand but it is a little sweeter or maybe even more peanuts than what you'd expect. The sauce or curry is also creamier. No complaints here, food is pretty good in general. The staff seemed to be friendly and the spices were on point. We ordered a Pad Thai, Pad Gra Pow, and Khai Soi. Delicious! Staff are always beyond friendly and the environment shines in really making it feel like a special place in the middle of downtown Oakland. Note I have tried delivery 1-2 and for some reason it never stands out that way. But in person it's in my top 2 Thai places for the East Bay. Complex flavors, good portions, interesting dishes. Between portion, price, service and food it's a five star spot. The crab fried rice was a let down, but didn't detract from everything else. They ended up putting us in the front and that was fine, we were a rowdy bunch! And we ate a ton and enjoyed everything minus the crab fried rice. The dish we thought was gonna be the best ended up being the worst. It was Boring with a capital b and bland and missing the veggies it was supposed to come with. We did mention that to our server and she tried hard to sexy it up with broccoli, but alas, 'Twas bland. However, everything else was fantastic. Think your staple Thai eats but also some dishes you don't typically find at your run of the mill Thai spot: Thai style blue crab omelette, fried chicken, catfish and pork belly. The spicy dishes brought heat but not in an overpowering way and I loved the spicy beef noodle (pad kee mao with beef). If you love roti, theirs was delicious, as well as the eggplant app. Portions are generous and prices are more than reasonable. The space is fun, making it a great option for group dinner or a celebration and they seemingly seemed to host many of those as there were a few larger parties. This spot is the more reasonably priced and intimate version of Farmhouse Thai and I'd choose this spot for sure over the other. We were going to a show at the fox theater, that was the reason I chose Pintoh, without even reading the reviews ( which I usually do). So made a reservation without having special expect. Walked in to a very unassuming restaurant, was greeted with very friendly staff. On their cocktails list, were several Suju concoction. I had the pineapple cocktail, it was perfectly balance of lightly sweet, spicy and tangy, fabulous! The rest of my party tried the other cocktails, who all got accolades. We ordered several appetizers- the eggplant skewers, prawn, hi Ken satay all excellent, creative and well executed! Then for entrees, the fried chicken, papaya salad, beef noodle dish, and salmon and broccoli , all excellent! Through out the meal our lovely waitress was checked in with us, and had a very personalized approach, as well as patience, which made our experience even better. The price is very affordable and all I can say is, that if could have given them more then the 5 stars, we would have given them an easy 10! Pintoh is a fantastic little Thai place with delicious food and very friendly staff. I dropped by for the first time about two and a half weeks ago on a Thursday night and was seated right away, though they were pretty busy. Pintoh is small but very charming and has a warm, modern, pleasing aesthetic. The menu used to be more comprehensive, with more appetizers and entrees. For my first meal I got the calamari appetizer, which was very good but small in portion. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew was really disappointing - slightly underwhelming in flavor with noodles that were a tad on the greasy side. On the other hand, the Kang Kiew Wan Gai (green curry) was phenomenal and one of the best curries I've ever had. White meat chicken, red and green bell peppers, and broccoli in a bright, fresh, light green curry sauce with a side of jasmine rice. That curry was so good that I went back last night specifically for it, but noticed that the menu has gotten much smaller. It used to be double-sided but is now one-sided. The calamari is no longer on the menu, which was disappointing, but luckily the green curry was spared the ax and I got to enjoy it again. I also tried the Por Tod (crispy roll) and Khao Soi with chicken (noodle soup in a yellow curry broth); the Por Tod was totally delicious but was unfortunately luke warm when it got to the table. Though I didn't like the Khao Soi as much as the green curry, it was a tasty noodle soup perfect for a cold night. Pricing is very fair here, with entrees ranging from $10 to $14 and appetizers around $6, but service is hit or miss. While the staff are all incredibly nice people, they're a bit inconsistent with coming around to check on tables and I've seen more than one customer have to go up to the front counter to request drink refills, food they'd been waiting on, etc. It can also be hard to flag someone down because the staff are all running around trying to keep up with everything. It feels like they're still working out kinks and trying to find what works best for them, both on the menu and as a business. Regardless, I highly recommend checking out Pintoh, though perhaps it would be wise to come when you have time to relax and aren't necessarily in a hurry. The food is totally worth it. read more

With Fall in full swing, we were really craving some hot soupy food and our go to is normally Thai in such cases. We stumbled upon this place and what a treasure! We had their spring roll, Khao Soi and yellow curry. It was all so good! Whenever I have had khao soi before at other places, the curry is typically fairly thin. This one was mildly creamy and very flavorful. Definitely my top khao soi in the Bay Area! Even the yellow curry had a good kick to it. "When can we go back?!?" pretty much sums up my feelings about this place. Pintoh Thai Street Food is located in Downtown Oakland and one of the newer restaurants in the neighborhood. They use Yelp Waitlist, so you can add your name when it gets busy. We came on a weekday during lunchtime, so the restaurant was busy, but there were still a few tables available. Right away, I loved the chill ambiance and colorful decor of the bright floral tablecloths and turquoise chairs here and there throughout the space. Everyone around us was talking and enjoying themselves, so that usually tells me that there's good service, good food, and no one's rushing you to leave. The lunch menu is pretty large. They offer "Snacks" (or appetizers) some of which you see on the menu at many Thai restaurants like Crispy Rolls and Chicken Satay, along with others like Eggplant Satay and Roti with Steak. They also have salad, soup, many noodle and rice dishes, curries, and specialties. We went with the Crispy Rolls, Eggplant Satay, Khao Mun Gai, and Pad See Ew. Y-U-M! The food came out as it was ready, so we got our noodles first before anything else, and were fine with that. (I'd rather have the dishes piping hot than have everything out at once.) The Pad See Ew came with pork, which I don't usually eat, but it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The dish wasn't overloaded with soy sauce and was probably one of the best versions I've tasted. Next came the Eggplant, which was grilled and covered in peanut sauce with a cucumber sauce. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Then came my Khao Mun Gai, which was amazing. I haven't ordered this dish from many places, but this stands out from all the other times. The chicken was melt in your mouth good (wish they gave a bit more of it), the herb-garlic and ginger rice was fluffy and delicious, the chicken broth and cucumber was nice and hot, and the sauces incredibly tasty. Last came our Crispy Rolls that were nicely fried, but I was too busy eating everything else to try more than 1 piece. In summary, service was quick, the staff were friendly and hard working, the prices were affordable, the portions were good, and the environment was welcoming. Loved their Khao Soi noodles which had a rich and creamy spicy curry flavor. It has a strong spicy kick to it and is so flavorful. It can get a little heavy, so you can always save some as leftovers to eat later. I saved half of it for later and still enjoyed it just as much! Pad Thai tasted good too. Their noodles were a little al dente. Haven't tried the Khao Mun Gai (chicken rice) yet, but will have to get it next time! I've come to Pintoh numerous times now whenever I'm working in Oakland. It's one of the few Thai places in downtown Oakland so my fellow coworkers typically default to suggesting Pintoh for lunch. While not overly big, this establishment is split into two sides, so there's still a decent amount of seating available. And of all times that I've been, the wait time, even during lunch, has thankfully been fairly minimal. While I tend to order the same few things every time I am here, I occasionally try to order something new for a bit of experimentation. Some of the dishes that I have ordered include, but are not limited to: -Satay Gai: Grilled chicken on skewers. The highlight of this dish is definitely the amazing peanut sauce that comes with it. Highly recommend trying out this appetizer item! -Kiew Wan Roti: Crispy Roti sliced into pie slices with some pieces of steak as garnish. Comes with a green curry sauce for dipping. Okay dish that I would not mind ordering again. -Pad See Ew with Pork: Wide rice noodles with broccoli and egg. The noodles were a bit too mushy for my liking. But the sauce was done well. -Pad Thai with Shrimp: Rice noodle with egg, tofu, and bean sprouts. While I certainly enjoy a good shrimp dish, the noodles on the pad thai were unfortunately, also too mushy for my liking. -Gai Himmaparn: Crispy chicken served with cashews, string beans, bell peppers, and a side of rice. The crispy chicken is very good, and the veggies and cashews lends itself well with the protein. A pretty good dish that I cleaned very quickly. -Khao Pad Kang Kiew: Pineapple fried rice that comes in a bamboo basket that dim sum will typically come in. The portion size is very large and will probably leave you with enough leftovers for dinner as well. Pintoh salvaged a nightmarish delivery with UberEats today. I'm writing today to highlight a great experience in customer service I had here. I ordered Pintoh through Uber Eats and my Uber Eats delivery person horrendously messed up my order and delivery. I had ordered a catfish (must try), green curry (my favorite of the curries they have here), and two drinks (Thai tea and Thai coffee). My delivery driver spilled my curry all over my rice and did not deliver my catfish or my drinks. I live nearby and couldn't get a hold of my driver or of UberEats so I decided to walk over and ask them if they remember packing my order. They were actually closed for their post lunch break but they still were willing to help me. They told me they did and they gave my order to my delivery driver. They also noted my food should not have spilled the way it did. After showing them all the photos of my failed order, Pintoh was incredibly kind and cooked my order for me again. Everything was correct in my order and I went back home. When I got home, everything was still packaged well (nothing spilled) and tasted amazing. HUGE thank you to Pintoh for your customer service!! Pintoh has always had amazing fresh quality delicious food (even during the pandemic) and now I know they have amazing service as well. 10/10 I love Pintoh and their food.
