Came for Oakland restaurant week and was really excited about the curated menu! It was ~$40 for a starter, entree, and dessert. As a party of 2, my friend and I ordered the following: Goong Yang- Grilled shrimp with a mildly spicy Thai sauce, this was an amazing pairing! There were also a few veggies on the side. Kiew Wan Roti: The roti here is phenomenal. Served with sliced skirt steak which was delicious too! Came with green curry dipping sauce & Ajad Thai cucumber relish. Massamun Kae: I'm not usually a huge fan of lamb, but the way they grilled and marinated this dish was superb! The meat fell right off the bone and was surrounded by a delicious massamun curry sauce. This was also served with pan-fried roti which was 10/10. Would honestly come back just for the roti here. Nuer Yang: This was another type of skirt steak I think. Thicker than the entree but not as tasty to be honest. This was served with a house peanut sauce, spring mix salad, and sticky rice. Would recommend the other dishes. Thai tea pudding - Without the cream, it was too salty. With the cream, it was too sweet. Up to your own preferences I guess! Mango Mousse Cake - super good, highly recommend! It wasn't on the restaurant week menu but came as an option. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we first arrived, however, it quickly filled up! Pintoh Thai is a hidden gem in downtown Oakland. Pintoh features Thai Street Food, which is the Southeast Asian version of tapas. I was with a vegetarian and the menu provided lots of options. We started with an order of Roti as an appetizer. At $3.50 its a great deal. They create a patty of some sort of dough and then fry it until it is as crispy as could be. It comes out greasy and crisp, but its delicious. Other sides we'd like to tray next time are the fried egg ($2.50) and cucumber salad ($5.00) For the main, we shared the Pad Brussel Sprouts. Its stir-fried Brussels Sprouts with garlic and Pintoh's secret sauce. Topped with fried garlic. ($13.00). Its vegetarian. PRO-TIP: For $4.50 you can add peanut sauce to any dish. The neighborhood gets dicey at night. When walking back to our parked car, which was about a block away, we noticed that a string of cars had their back windows broken. Be careful! read more

Love the typical Thai condiments on the table -- a must for us! We got the Talay Padcha (seafood) and Pladuk Pad Phik Khing (catfish green beans). Both were delicious and the Talay came with a side of rice. We couldn't finish it so had to take the rest which was enough for one more lunch meal the next day. This place specializes in Thai street food, which is pretty cool! My favorite dish was the Khao Soi, which are yummy curry noodles. They're hard to find in Thai restaurants, according to my friend (who's Thai). The Pintoh Krapow was just average, in my opinion. The pinot noir was surprisingly pretty good. First of all, loved the staff and service. Tanya was very nice and did a great job serving us for lunch the other day. So this one is on the chef. Had a Northern Thai garlic pork rib. It was dry, like beef jerky and all the flavor had been cooked away. Came with a salad that was ok though. We had some kind of fried spring roll that was pretty good, but the main dish was a disappointment. Will plan to give this one more try. Maybe was just a bad day for the kitchen. If I come back and order something better, I'll gladly up the stars here. Such a solid neighborhood spot for what I think is the best comfort food ever. If you love a refreshing beer moment, I really liked the Master Gao Jasmine Tea Lager -- super light and subtle with jasmine. We ordered the por tod (crispy spring rolls with silver noodles and cabbage) because I love the crunch. Then we also got the pad see ew with pork, and a dish with crispy chicken, basil and cashews. The pad see ew is good, but lacks that sort of deep umami I've had at other places. Plus it comes completely without spice, and I wish it had a little so we could build from there. I love the Khao Mun Gai, Khao Soi, Green Chicken curry, Roti appetizer and now I have added another go to- the Catfish fillet dish. Super fresh, flavorful and the perfect amount of heat. Bell peppers, ginger, basil, and fried green beans go perfectly with the savory sauce. Definitely a must if you like catfish. Ended my meal with some refreshing smooth delicious vanilla ice cream. I ordered via DoorDash and I almost gave Pintoh 5 stars JUST for the mango sticky rice. Initially, I was disappointed that the portion was so small, there was only one half a mango, and the sticky rice was not white (it was black rice)... HOWEVER, the taste was perfection. Even at $7.99 I would order over and over again. The pad see ew (with pork) was mediocre. Super oily, not enough dark soy sauce, and less sweet than I personally would have preferred. My green curry chicken had a weird eggplant that tasted more like a tomato and had very few meatbor veggies. The food was ok but the portion size was small, as you can see in the pics. The best dish was probably the khao soi noodle soup dish. The satay was little on the dry side. The place gets crowded so little on the noise side to have a conversation. Staff was polite and took care but they misunderstood my order so didn't get one dish and had to wait for reorder but food comes fast. I really, really wanted to like this place because of the ownership. THE SERVICE So look, I didn't expect stellar service when I got to this place. But there are basic standards I think every restaurant should have -- especially at a certain price point. I was quickly seated after adding myself to the waitlist via Yelp. After being seated, my friend joined me about 10 minutes later. It then took another 10 minutes before we got water. And I actually got up and went to ask for water... 20 minutes after being seated. I hate getting up. I hate being that person. I used to be a server, so I get it. But you gotta bring guests water within the first few minutes of being sat. After we got water, I order a hot Thai tea with coconut milk since it was chilly outside. My tea came out lukewarm. I'm pretty sure they didn't even use boiling water to make the tea. Our server was aware when they dropped off the tea. I requested another *hot* tea. I waited. And waited... and then our food came out! But I still didn't have my tea.... I requested the tea from the food runner and another lukewarm tea came out. ‍ THE FOOD The food was good. It would have been great if it was served hot. I'm assuming our food sat in the window for a while? Which sucked, because the flavors were on point. We order the roti with skirt steak to share. A little greasy, but delicious. I order the khai soi with chicken. This dish was RICH. I thought it needed a little spice (and added some accordingly). This dish was also served room temperature, when it should have been hot. I forget the name of the dish my friend ordered, but it was essentially a basil chicken dish with a side order or rice. The portion sizes were solid. I definitely didn't feel I couldn't finish my meal. PRICE Street food without the street food prices. But it's Oakland, so is anyone surprised? A light dinner for two came out to ~$75 -- that's 1 app, 1 beverage, and 2 entrees. LOCATION The restaurant is right downtown Oakland. There's ample street parking around. I heard about this place from a friend. I had visited Thailand a few weeks before coming here, I fell in love with eating Khao soi while in Thailand. So of course I ended up ordering the Khao soi while eating here. It was amazing, just the same as I remembered in in Thailand. I spoke to the workers and they are from Thailand, specifically the same city I had just visited. You know it's truly authentic when they move from Thailand to the bay to begin a business, creating dishes they grew up making. I was asked to place an order for a staff event of 15 people with Pintoh Thai. Pim, the manager was excellent to work with (from start to finish) and even delivered the food the day of the event. Pim was accommodating, excellent communication, friendly, professional and went above and beyond my expectations. The food was delivered on time, and everything was still piping hot, and they had packaged everything extremely well so that nothing got spilled. Not a small feat considering there were two trays of curries! All the dishes were divine. I have personally spent time in Thailand, so I love it when I find a spot that tantalizes those pleasant memories and gets it spot on. Everyone else also loved the food and raved how delicious it was. The dish had a balanced curry flavor, was perfectly spiced and had a TON of noodles. Service was on point and my only suggestion is to make sure the restroom is taken care of. I have eaten here twice so far and have come to share my experience both times. The first time I came I was sat immediately for early Saturday dinner. I usually order pad thai whenever I try a new Thai restaurant, but I was introduced to khao soi recently so I was eager to have some more. I also ordered thai iced tea and roti for dipping into the khao soi. The khao soi: pretty good, lots of flavor and super fun to eat. Needed to be spicier so I added chili flakes. Also, the khao soi I had tried at another (Long Beach) restaurant wasn't as sweet as Pintoh's version, which was kind of a disappointment. All in all I was happy with my order. The thai tea was well done, just perfectly sweetened (that is to say, not TOO sweet), and the roti was addictive. I had to remind myself that I had ordered it for dipping, and not to just eat it as is. I recommend two orders of this if you order the khao soi because you won't be able to get enough. Service was quick and efficient, as well as friendly. I didn't get the waiter's name but I enjoyed them. The second time around I was eager to try the pad thai, so I brought my husband with me and we made a date night out of it. I elected to make a reservation this time, which wasn't needed. We were sat immediately, but then it took 15 to 20 minutes to get any kind of service. I was perplexed because this was not my experience the first time around, and I was somewhat miffed because I had hyped Pintoh up. Eventually we caught the attention of one of the waiters, who took our order and made up for the delay by comping our drinks (their lychee iced tea is AMAZING, I highly recommend). In addition to the pad thai, we ordered the papaya salad (spicy) and hubs ordered pad khee mao. The papaya salad was FANTASTIC. I was so pleased that it had the right amount of heat we expect when we order a dish spicy. My husband seemed to enjoy his noodles. My pad thai? To me, inedible. I admit that I can be quite discerning when it comes to pad thai; I believe it should be a perfect balance of sweet and sour, with plenty of umami and extra saucy. The perfect color should be light-orange. The noodles I received barely had any color on them, which immediately set off alarm bells in my head. When I finally got to tasting them, I knew that there was no way I could bring myself to finish the dish. It just lacked 9/10th of the flavor that a good pad thai should have. I never EVER do this, but I set my plate aside, signaled to the waiter, and placed an order for khao soi and roti. The waiter seemed to get what was going on, because the pad thai did not make it to the bill. The khao soi was a little less good than it was the last time, and that's only because it was even sweeter. They should probably dial that back if they can. The roti was spectacular again, and I had to make sure I got to use them for the khao soi before my husband polished them off. Again, I remind you to order two roti sides! I picked up Pintoh's family meal that popped up in response to COVID-19 for $43.99. Intended for 2-3 people, it can definitely feed that much, and offers a great variety of Thai flavors! They are also flexible with drink upgrades, spice adjustments, and best of all - they don't use MSG! The family meal also has a vegetarian option, but the regular one comes with: - Por Tod Vegetarian egg roll that came in four bite-sized pieces (cuts of two full egg rolls). Almost had the same taste as standard vegetarian Chinese egg rolls due to the amount of cabbage, carrot, and starch. The sweet and sour sauce used for dipping is like the standard sweet Thai chili sauce. - Pad Thai with Shrimp Pretty good with big shrimp, but the travel time made the noodles clump together, so it was difficult to break apart. If I ate this while dining there, I think it'd be very tasty, especially with all the crushed peanuts they include! - Si Krong Moo Tod Came in three pieces, a couple of which were small, and were simple spiced crispy ribs. Definitely on the dry and hard side, but the flavors were there! - Kang Kiew Wan Gai Very good! I can see why they say this is their famous green curry. There's a lot of good things going on in this curry with the spices, sour notes, and umami flavors all merging perfectly with the coconut milk's creaminess. The chicken was pretty soft, too. - Roti (side) Many people say it's oily - because it is. It almost leaks oil when you bite into it. Personally, I don't mind, but just be aware that you might want to sop up some oil with napkins if you aren't fond of oily fried goodness. It's one of the crispiest roti that I've ever had, and very delicate that it easily flakes when you're holding it. - Jasmine and Brown Rice (side) Very fluffy, moist, and seemed to have some flavor to them! The platter also came with an unmentioned simple salad mix with fish sauce dressing. Now that's fresh and funky! Also included were two drinks. The Thai iced coffee and tea were standard and good with strong flavors. The coffee was a bit too sweet for me, and didn't have strong enough caffeine for my boyfriend. Still, it tastes like a nicely sweet iced latte. The Thai iced tea was sweetened just right with a hint of creaminess, and didn't have much astringency or bitterness. I also tried an order of khao mun gai because it seems popular, and I wasn't sure if the family platter was going to be enough for four people. I've had a lot of khao mun gai in my life - I grew up eating Hainan chicken in numerous restaurants, China, and cooked at home - and Pintoh's is just okay, but the sauces they include make it very tasty and redeemable. My chicken was all over the place and looked like leftover pieces, and the rice was very mushy, a bit too wet, and did not have much flavor. The chicken bone broth soup that came included was pretty soothing, although people who don't like that much oil in their soups or need more salt to enjoy food may not like it. The taste is very, very subtle, but I can tell good chicken was used due to the coloring and oils! The khao mun gai comes with two sauces; the black one tasted similar to a liquid hoisin with a tangier taste, and the chili-lime sauce they call "spicy" tasted like a zesty ginger sauce with toned down ginger and spice. I wish the cilantro looked a little more fresh, but the cucumbers were fine. The family meal and khao mun gai satisfied our family of four with some leftovers. I think the family meal can feed an extremely hungry, overindulgent couple, or four people with lighter appetites. Excellent food this time around with mostly different dishes selection from my first time there. Food: Beef Khao Soi, Kana Moo Krob and Pork Red Curry. These food were all so flavorful. Beef Khao Soi was exactly what I remembered it from Thailand. The broth was thick and very tasty along with tender beef. Kana Moo Krob is a repeat dish that I had before and I love it - crunchy crispy pork belly with greens stir fried together. Red Curry was exactly how I personally prefer it - not too spicy and not too sweet either. Overall these were excellent and I highly recommend them. However the -1 star was due to service. Though the restaurant was on the slower end since we went late in the evening, they were less efficient and it took time for them to seat us though there was no line and even took them time again (about 10 minutes) before they came to get our order after having to go up the counter to let them know we're ready.
