The best place we ate the whole time we were in Mexico. Granted - we only left the resort once and it was for Pipi's! We made a reservation ahead of time which I highly recommend as it is a small place. It feels homey and authentic which I love and they have a mariachi band that plays more American hits than not. Lol The margaritas are huge and one is plenty! Have 2 though because you're in Mexico - duh! Food is cheap and filling. I ordered the combo that came with tacos and enchiladas and it was very good! The portion was huge and the tacos were my favorite. Order the Queso Fundido while you're at it - who doesn't love melted cheese?! Staff was very attentive and they hustle like nobody's business! If you're a tourist, I do not recommend driving here as the streets are narrow and it is very easy to get lost. Taxis are everywhere and all we had to do was wait outside and one pulled up. Check out Pipi's if you're looking for good authentic Mexican food. You won't be disappointed! read more

I am flabbergasted at how busy this place was and the good review. The food was overpriced and tasted like garbage. Honestly, worst food we've had in PV. Worse than Pepe's even. We ordered a combo to taste a few different things and we couldn't bring ourselves to finish it. I'm usually savvy, not wasteful and don't like to throw food, but this place left me no choice but to do so. I would not recommend at all and wish people wouldn't upsell these places to continue the cycle. We make sure we come here every time we visit Puerto Vallarta. It is located a few blocks up from the Malecon. The service is wonderful, we never had to ask for anything. They are very attentive and nice. It's a fun, loud restaurant with Mariachi singer playing any song you request! But the best part is the food. The portions are generous and delicious! The fajitas were good and were on fire when they arrived. Shrimp enchiladas and tacos were good as well. We were with a party of twelve and everyone liked their meals. I have the mention the Margaritas were huge and strong! I got the Watermelon one but it was just ok. My friend got the Mango one and it was delicious! The Cadillac Margarita was really strong. They are good for 2 people. We had celebrated a birthday and they sang to her, made her wear a sombrero, fed her a bite of flan and gave her a shot of tequila! It was great! read more

This is my go to spot whenever I am in PV! The buy 1 get 1 free cadillac margaritas are a plus! I never make it to my free cup bc they are super big and strong. The fresh guac made at the table can do no wrong. It is very delicious and simply made yet so flavorful. I really like the shrimp fajitas. They come out sizzling on a skillet with the onions and peppers. Fresh homemade tortillas! They had a band come and play music for us. We had a good old time hanging out at PiPis. I'm for sure coming back whenever I come back to Puerto Vallarta for sure. read more

Y'all, it's a NO. This is not authentic Mexican food, I've had better meals from Taco Bell. It's clear they are appealing to a particular vanilla crowd *wink*wink* If you are any kind of ethnic, this will be your own personal hell. We sat through 2 mariachi serenades of sweet Caroline before our food came and then the following ensued: The salsa is basically hunts tomato sauce with chopped onion in it. The table side guacamole was portioned so small and was paired with some greasy ass chips. The margaritas were watered down and had no flavor. The tortillas for my Baja fish tacos were rubbery and fell apart and smelled like they came from a mission tortilla pack. And the fish was about the portion of a fish stick, more bread than anything. The steak was okay, rated a hard C+. The meat was cooked well but the flavor just wasn't there. The beans, oh my god the beans it's definitely a place that just tossed a handful of mozerella cheese on top as they are plated and doesn't mind if it never melts. The only edible thing was the chile relleno. Sorry to say I have no pictures and just one video of the mariachi (they were sweet), felt like if I documented any more of this my Mexican card would be revoked. I'm all for a restaurant making money and appeasing the tourists but this place just took it a little too far. This places should be called Caca's!!! Because the food taste like !!! read more

Touristy? Yes? Fun? Yes. Worth a visit for dinner? Yes. I was able to get there about 8 PM one evening with a friend and caught the last 20 minutes of the mariachi band playing - which sounded great! Their margaritas are big as a house, and you only need *one* for the full dinner. I had the vegetarian fajitas which were tasty and came with tableside guacamole. While it is touristy, it was one of our more memorable dinners in PV. read more

Pipi's was great! The fajitas make for a hearty meal even split between two people, the margaritas are huge, and the talented musicians really make for a special experience. It has been around since 1986 and my partner and I definitely could see why. Our waiter was a jokester and made us laugh on multiple occasions. It was so clean, pretty and colorful. My only complaint is while the food was good, it definitely reminded me of the Tex-Mex we get back in the States so while I wouldn't go back for the food, I would go back to have some fun with friends! read more

This was our favorite place, favorite food, ambiance and service of Puerto Vallarta!! Other places were fancier but this was definitely authentic and lively two blocks away from the main boardwalk. Everything was delicious, waiters were so nice and funny, the birthday boy was serenaded, the musicians were extremely talented (at $5 a song not like the $25 on the marina) ONE NOTE: only one person in our party had the fish tacos, everyone else stuck with enchiladas, burritos, taquitos, sampler platters etc. my son who had the fish was up ALL night throwing up. It's surprising how well reviewed this place is. Read the other reviews for opinion on food, it's ok at best. What warrants the poor rating is the underhanded behavior. They start by dropping off bottled water to your table without telling you they're charging you 55 pesos a bottle. A guacamole guy also comes to your table and offers to make you some dip in a way that seems like it's gratis (it's not). But I suppose you're savvy and avoided the water and guac - great - but you're still left with food that's the equivalent of a Chevy's. read more

Pros: The food is great! Starts off with a giant margarita, homemade guac right in front of you, and an awesome spread of entrees. Yes this is a tourist spot, yes the food is still authentic and tastes amazing. I highly recommend this place while visiting Puerto Vallarta. I first came here maybe 15 years ago with my family, while staying in a resort in the marina. After many more visits over the years, I tend to dine at last touristy places, but my friend wanted to mariachi, and I remember the food being tasty with great service. I was nervous when the mariachi was playing "Sweet Caroline" when we walked in, but I hoped we would find a bit more traditional entertainment when we sat down. Of course, you have to start with the table-made guacamole, and a mango margarita the size of your head - both were delicious!. My beef and chicken chimichanga was very tasty but my friend didn't love her sour cream enchiladas. Place recommended by the bellman at Shareton for classic good Mexican food. It did not disappoint! Well air conditioned restaurant with variety of Margarita flavors in a large Margarita glass. Tried the passion fruit Margarita was delicious! Guacamole made tableside is included with every meal along with yummy salsa. We had a couple typical Mexican entrees enchiladas, tacos, tamales. Is this a spot for tourists? Absolutely! But so what! The food was delicious and the service was BEYOND excellent. We ordered the guacamole, which is prepared table side. It was delicious and so much better than the guacamole at our resort. We also had the sour cream enchiladas and beef chimichanga. It's true that the portions are large, but my husband is a large guy (6'4") so he was so happy to finally get a good portion of food. It didn't hurt that everything tasted great and came out of the kitchen so quickly. If you're in Puerto Vallarta, you MUST give them a try! read more

We enjoyed Pipi's so much that we ate there twice on our recent trip to PV. Excellent service, plenty of English speakers, great food. The portions were pretty large, which was my only complaint. I even ordered something off the "snack" section of the menu thinking it would be a smaller portion and it was still a very large plate. While this place is a popular tourist spot, there was plenty of seating enough for big parties. I found this place while walking through Puerto Vallarta and it had pretty good reviews. I was a bit reluctant because it was on Yelp and might have been too white-oriented. However, as soon as I walked in I smelled the traditional Mexican aromas. They had no lobster when we came but the salsa they brought to the table tasted a bit unique, I believe they put peanuts in their table salsa and it was fantastic! We ordered tacos de camaron dorados and the flavors were crispy but not too much breading. They came with a creamy salsa and a hot salsa on the side. We ordered shrimp enchiladas, fajitas de pescado and camarones especial mr. pipi. Everything was fantastic, especially the camarones especial mr. pipi. We also ordered drinks which were huge and strong and a dessert, fried ice cream. I absolutely recommend this place and if I ever come back to Puerto Vallarta I will be making my way here. Not authentic Mexican, but tasty food. I ordered the steak fajitas and my wife ordered the #2 combo, taco, chili relleno, tamale, & burrito. Huge portions! A few issues... The steak was chewy. All of my wife's items on the #2 were served lukewarm. My beans & rice were lukewarm as well. Needless to say, we had leftovers to take home. We asked for a to-go box and the waiter took the plates to take them back to the kitchen to box them up. I thought it was odd, but ok, I've experienced that before. This place is touristy, in a weird spot, and def isn't fine dining... but it's some of the best straight-up classic mexican food I've ever eaten. Tamales, Chile Rellenos, tacos, enchiladas, carne Asada, Mexican rice, refried beans - they got all out of it. I had an epic plate of food, my girlfriend did too, and we each had two fish bowl mango margaritas each. The whole with tip was $80 bucks and we legit had half of our plates to go. They even gave us to go cups for our drinks. It had a great vibe, great service, and fun atmosphere. It might be touristy or whatever but honestly, I went there 8 years ago and it was still just as good. The guy even gave us more tequila in our margaritas when we asked; and he just kept pouring until I said stop. The service, the food, and personality of the place was fantastic. Pipi's is a tourist trap for visitors who are too scared to dine at a truly local restaurant. This is not a good place to eat while in Puerto Vallarta. How do I know this is a place primarily for tourists? Not only are the prices high and the quality low, but here's the big clue: there's only ONE Yelp review written in Spanish. I'm a foodie so this bugs me greatly because I literally travel TO eat. I was dragged here by someone in my party (we were traveling to PV on a family Christmas trip) who is not an adventurous eater at all (she mostly eats salad, steak, taco salads, and chicken fingers and that's it). She picked this place because it was one of the "recommended" tourist restaurants. We sat down in the very clean restaurant and we were handed a glossy, flashy menu that was in English (this was another sign to R-U-N). We ordered tableside guacamole and three different kind of fajitas (chicken, shrimp and steak). We were given complimentary bland corn chips and runny salsa, two complete afterthoughts from the restaurant. At least the guacamole was tasty but that's only because it was made fresh to order. We did have to add salt and it wasn't spicy at all. Again, the kitchen is trying to please the unadventurous palates of American tourists. Once our overpriced fajitas arrived, I started to get upset that I relented and let a non-foodie choose our lunch spot. The fajitas were downright NASTY. The meat was gross (our steak fajitas looked gray), and the vegetables were barely cooked at all. Nobody wants to eat crunchy onions on their fajitas! The food is bad but if you're too afraid to eat at a real taco stand or fresh seafood shack (they are all over town), I guess you should come here.
