This place has one of the best gyros I've ever had! The tzatziki sauce (which makes or breaks a gyro to me) is delicious and the meat is seasoned really well. I had Pita Kebob cater a dinner (iftar) recently for an event for about 150 people. The amount of food was beyond what I expected. They were very generous with the amount of food. At the end of the night there wasn't anything left. I saw people making doggy bags to take home. Everyone loved the food! There was salad, yellow rice, chicken and beef kabob, and shawarma. The Greek salad was amazing. Light dressing and full of fresh ingredients. And a great amount of feta cheese! Which was perfect for me because I love feta cheese. We visited the new location at lunch time. The good news for them is they are much busier than the previous location. The bad news is that they can't seem to handle the customer volume and the food and service suffer. (There was a help wanted sign in the window.) We ordered gyro and falafel. Both were so-so and seemed overcooked, perhaps because they were warmed over and over. My wife wishes she had 'sent back' the falafel because it was so hard. The gyro was big chunks rather than strips and hard as well. The other off-putting issue was the new fountain soda. At the previous location we could get a can of name brand soda to accompany lunch. Now they include fountainhead, a self described craft soda that tasted very 'off' to us. There are signs on the table touting 'lower calories', but no details on actual calorie count. The website listed on the cards has no details either, but it does stress the lower cost over brand name products. Pita Kebob is still unique in the area and we hope they can get their act together since we loved their food before the move. We'll try again at lunch and some dinners, especially the Moroccan options before we give up on them. read more

Really want to give them "0" stars but Yelp App doesn't allow for that. Worse food & service EVER!!! If your in a hurry - don't go, if your hungry - don't go, if you want something tasty - don't go! Well actually the only reason to go here is to park your car and use the bathroom, no issues with either. Because honesty I am a Mediterranean food lover and being vegan consume it quite frequently but this place had the worst food I've ever had!! And let's talk about the service...we got there right before noon and there were only 2 other patrons there- we placed our order then sat down, finally after about 20-25 minutes they brought our order out and guess what...you guessed it, wrong order, ugh - so back he went looking for our food and meanwhile now lots of people are starting to fill the restaurant so 20 minutes later and now everyone else in the restaurant but us receive their food!! So now our sit down lunch became a to-go order! Tried eating it in the car - tasted so bad we threw it away!! The falafels were hard and tasteless, and the pita wrap was stale, oozing sauce, Yuck! What a big waste of time and money that was! I'm thinking the reason this restaurant has been rated so high by others is because it's a small town and they just don't know good Mediterranean food, not many choices or any other choices close by. The Med is like the US in the sense that Popeye's, KFC and Church's all do chicken but each has a distinct taste. So it is with food from Turkey, Morocco and Greece. The array of spices and sauces, the presentation and the culture all uniquely influence the taste of the food and the dining experience. I know that the gyro in Greece tastes differently than the shawarmas in Bahrain and Turkey. For that matter, the souvlaki from Athens tasted differently from the souvlaki I ate on the Island of Crete, smile. I applaud Khalid for greatly enhancing the Dining scene in the Riverview, Ruskin & Apollo Beach area! He is definitely the "it factor" and his passion for food and people is inviting and obvious. For a hidden-away, counter-service only, tiny Mediterranean restaurant, this place is TOPS. I visited with my Apollo Beach-based daughter and we had the most-wonderful lunch. We are both vegetarians, and I'm on a diet, but the food is so fresh and healthful I felt great even after stuffing myself. We shared an appetizer platter of 2 stuffed grape leaves, 2 falafels, hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Tahini, Taktouka, Tzatziki, and Pita Chips. It was ample for two and every bit was delicious. We had each ordered a falafel pita as well, and wound up bringing them home for dinner. They were very delicious - the bread is absolutely the best I've ever had, and in addition to perfect falafels, the sandwiches were chock-full of lettuce, tomato, sweet red onions, and topped with a lovely yogurt sauce. The French fries were really good, but I wished I'd paid another $1 for tabouli. I noticed that low carb, whole wheat and GLUTEN FREE pitas are available on request.
