I'm not sure how I found this place, except I assume it was when I was looking for brick ovens around Los Angeles for pizza. Anyway, I went a couple days ago right after they opened mid-week. At this time, parking was easy in their tiny lot, but that was probably because of the time, as others have complained how hard parking is. The streets are all near highways, so I don't think there is street parking around there. And, adding to the business in the lot is probably the large dispensary that takes up most of the corner strip mall this place is located in. I went in and ordered a margherita Neapolitan pizza. I also ordered a New Haven style (super thin, crispy almost cracker-like crust with no crust edge around the outside) with sausage and black olives. I would've ordered a Chicago tavern style pizza, as well, but they had just opened and had none and weren't interested in making it right that minute. I guess it had sold out the night before so nothing was left over floating around. Supposedly it has a corn meal crust. I'll have to try it next time. So, I got the pizzas to go, but I knew that pizza rarely travels well. You lose the crispiness by the time you get home. So, I tried a slice of each immediately in the car. The margherita is a little sweet, especially when following the New Haven pie, but it is still very good. The New Haven was a bit of a revelation for me. As a born and bred New Yorker, I know people who moved to Connecticut later in life and talked about this style of pizza, but I never had it before. If you are a crust maniac, this might not have enough crust for you. That's how my kid felt. I, however, really liked the thinness of it. If you eat the Margherita first, before the New Haven, it doesn't come across as sweet, so I recommend you eat in this order. Anyway, I like this place a lot. They also have sicilian, New York style, and Detroit style pies, so you can get a lot of different types of pizzas here. No deep dish Chicago, though. I recommend trying their various pies and will be back. Try it! read more

This place is located on one of the most annoying traffic sections of Los Angeles. Thankfully, we were there on a Monday, and parking wasn't too bad, but I can imagine that parking would be a nightmare during other times. This place feels like those old pizza joints in NYC - sparse, with good pizza. We got the Margherita Neopolitan pizza and an NY pizza with mushrooms and spinach (drizzled with hot honey - actually, my partner was saying there was a hot honey pizza, which I didn't see on the menu and thought it was just the drizzle, so will have to come back for that next time). The pizza was really fresh - we had it there. Also got the first timer's discount, which was a nice surprise! I'm looking forward to trying some other other pizzas - they have so many styles of pizza, so I'm curious how well they do all of them. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was beyond disappointing. I paid over $80 for three pizzas and was told they would be ready at 4:21 PM. I arrived at 4:22 PM and they were not ready. I didn't leave until around 5:00 PM. To be honest, I should have taken the atmosphere as a red flag. The location feels like a cramped hole-in-the-wall with virtually no parking available. Getting in and out of the area was gridlocked and stressful. For the prices being charged, the overall setup and experience did not match expectations. After driving back to Boyle Heights to feed my three hungry children, I opened the boxes and discovered that all three pizzas were completely burned. Not slightly overcooked -- burned black and heavily charred to the point of being inedible. Spending over $80 for food that cannot be eaten is unacceptable. What makes it worse is there is no way to contact the restaurant. The phone numbers listed online are disconnected, and there is no working contact option on their website. That shows a lack of accountability and customer care. Long wait. Burned food. No communication. Poor overall experience. This was my first visit, and it will absolutely be my last. read more

Had a craving for pizza today and it turns out most pizza places (except chains) are closed on Mondays. Found this place on Yelp and it had high ratings so despite my hating going to Silver Lake because of the parking, I trekked over after a review mentioned they have a parking lot. Let me start off with the so-called parking lot. It is a small lot and it was full. Street parking was impossible but across the street was a sizeable lot and since I was taking the pizza to go, I chanced it. The person who took my order said I would be fine but please note there are signs you can be towed if you're parked there for another business. Now onto the pizza. I wanted a delectable pie, not something from a pizza chain. A Detroit style pizza was what I was really craving. The reviews said this place was delicious but I beg to differ. To me, this was just a step up from a chain. This pizza did not live up to the standards of Quarter Sheets, which would be my top Detroit style pizza. The dough was lacking in flavor and there were no spices to complement the overall taste of the pizza. While it did the job of fulfilling the pizza craving, it was far from meeting the standards of a tasty Detroit style pie. Quarter Sheets & Fuji & Vi's Pizza are superior to Pizza Cafe LA. To me this was just an average pizza and absolutely not worth the trek or the price other than to satisfy my need for pizza on a Monday. Kudos to the guy tending the restaurant and taking orders as he was very pleasant to chat with and nice. If you're looking for Detroit style pizza and already willing to go to Silver Lake, just go to Quarter Sheets and subject yourself to their polices and high prices - in the end, you'll be satisfied with your choice. read more

Was introducing a friend to Detroit pizza. As someone who has lived it the D, this place doesn't get it quite right. The crust and corners they got down, but they need to pie more sauce on the pie!! Otherwise good flavor. We also tried the honey hot chicken wings. They were spicy (breaded). Good flavor but not my fav. Feel like the breading/flavor to meat ratio didn't work. Not enough meat on little wings. But interesting concept. As many others reported. The lot of very small so parking could be an issue. Lastly, not sure if the older gentlemen there was the owner, but don't think it's in good taste to engage in conversation with what seemed like regular customer about controversial political conversations. My BF wanted to try a new pizza place and boy...he picked a good one. Pizza Cafe LA's Detroit style pizza was delicious. The pizza crust was pillowy yet crunchy. The sauce and the toppings were on point. Chicken Caesar salad was great as well... love their homemade croutons and their version of Caesar salad dressing. My BF and I really love their buffalo wings... We only got six to try but definitely will order more next time... They were just that good. The only reason I didn't give him a five was because of the location... we ordered their garlic knot (not pictured) and it didn't have much garlic flavor. Also was hard getting in and out of their small parking lot and their prices are a little bit higher than most, but their food quality makes out for it. This was the very first place I have ever had New Haven style pizza and what a great introduction it was! Honestly, I had never even heard of New Haven style except my friend is from New Haven and told me that this was as good as it gets when you are on the west coast. The crust was thin and chewy and their pizza sauce was amazing! They have a small parking lot in front and a couple of seats if you want to eat there but it seems more of a carry out kind of place. On ever growing pizza journey that I am on, eating the pies at Pizza Cafe LA is a milestone for me! Delicious! The cracker thin NYC style crust is crispy, thin. The margarita has a much appreciated 2-step garlic process that slightly roasts basil leaves and they have the brilliance to add fresh raw basil on the way out of the oven. This is the craft of pizza design in all its brilliance. Staff are genuinely passionate at what they do and care about customers immensely. Have been coming to this place for 3 years . Love the pizza and the owner ! Unfortunately, the past two times I came to eat here were unpleasant. I recently came when two new employees were working , I waited over an hour for my pizza and was given the wrong order. The pizza was burnt and they forgot the extra ranch I paid for. I spoke to the owner, he was kind and offered to remake it. It seemed like it was very disorganized that day as multiple people were waiting along time. This last time I came, I tried to use a coupon for 15 dollars off ( it said valid until feb 2026 instore or online ) and they did not want to honor it. The worker said it was for the next time I came and online orders only ; he then stated that the owner actually didn't teach them how to add it. They also forgot my extra ranch again :(! Very frustrating, I got that coupon 12/6 and tried to use it later that day . Nothing wrong with the food just the service has declined since the new staff has started. We spoke with Diego (who I'm assuming it was based off yelp pics and reviews!) and he was soooooo friendly and very helpful when we asked him questions about the pizzas/were indecisive over which toppings to order. Again, want to stress the service here is SO NICE. Diego was such a kind dude it definitely made me want to come here again. He even said "I hope this is the best pizza you've ever had!" T_T We got a make-your-own detroit style pizza with hot honey, pepperoni, mushrooms, minced garlic, and jalapenos. He said they drizzled sauce on after it was cooking (i looooove saucy pizzas!). We live around the area and always see this pizza place when we eat at Astro's. We decided to order for delivery and the pizza was OK. Given that there are plenty of other pizza joints, we thought that we could add another one to the list. We ordered their deep dish pepperoni which was OK. We weren't fans of the intentional charring of the pepperoni cups. We ordered another pie with mushrooms, jalapeños and red onions. It was also OK. The mushrooms weren't cooked so the earthy flavor really came through. The crust was bland. Maybe we gave this place a try on an off day. I wished I liked the pizza and on to the next. read more

The delivery was made by Door Dash which was prompt and good. We ordered 3 pizzas and sadly, 2 out of the 3 were burnt. Chicken Pesto: couldn't really taste much since the bottom was so burnt. I was looking forward to this one the most sadly. BBQ chicken: the second burnt pizza. Not as burnt as the first one, but that's all you can taste. New York style Pineapple: the only one that wasn't burnt, but where was all the pineapple?? They were all hidden in the cheese and the tiniest pineapple pieces you could ever imagine. An absolute gem, and certainly the best New York style pizza in Los Angeles. The pizza itself reminds me very favorably of Lucali and Julianna's in New York, a sort of Neapolitan pie with that's less wet than a traditional Italian one. The crust here has an appropriate to the style crispness to it, with a middling density crumb, and a nice chew. The pizza was cooked in a proper oven at the proper (high) temperature, reflected well in both the blackened bubbles of the crust and the leopard spotting on the undercarriage. The sauce was perfect: flavorful, and not simply fresh tomatoes. The basil was fresh and flavorful as well. All around, everything was properly salted, which did help bring out the well developed flavor of the crust. The service too was phenomenal, and I had the privilege of speaking to the owner and hearing his pizza story. This one is worth going out of your way for! read more

Last Saturday, we were craving Detroit style pizza and fortunately found Pizza Cafe LA near Dodger's Stadium which was remarkable. Disclaimer: I'm from Detroit so I'm harsher than most native Angelenos when it comes to Detroit-style pizza. I ordered a small Detroit-style pizza and small order of buffalo wings for delivery. The pizza was just ok to me. They got the flavors down and the crust was cooked well... it was just a tad too thick for Detroit-style. Also, it could have used more cheese. It's fine not to be an exact replica of Buddy's, but when most Detroiters think of pizza, they think of Buddy's and while Buddy's outer edge is around the same thickness, the inner crust is about 1/4 inch thinner than Pizza Cafe LA. I've tried quite a few Detroit-style pizzas in LA and most don't have the same mouthfeel as Buddy's. For me, it's kind of a big deal. Pizza Parma in Thousand Oaks is the closest to Buddy's I've found. Also, my buffalo wings were soggy but I won't blame that on them. This is the second time I've ordered buffalo wings for delivery - the first time was from a different place - and both times I received soggy wings, so I guess they don't travel well in those delivery bags. Lesson learned. I'd give them another shot, but would try their NY or neopolitan style next time. read more

It's an understated location BUT the pizzas are phenomenal. The pizzas are delicious, the crust is crunchy yet not hard and flavorful. The staff was extremely helpful and exceedingly nice. The prices are great! Definitely 10/10 and I would definitely recommend to a friend. read more
