Great pizza! It's Columbus style square cut pizza, but for me it's hard to compare to any other pizzas in town. It is definitely unique. I'd certainly recommend trying a pie here if you haven't had one yet. I got a pep/saus/bp pizza. The sausage is cut into thin discs similar to small pepperoni, which I was intrigued by and had never seen before. The sausage is somewhat mild in flavor, and curls up a little bit just like small pepperonis do. Note that their standard pepperonis are the larger ones, but I think I read somewhere in these reviews that they also have the small ones too on request? The crust has a nice crunch along with a nice chew, kinda in between a thin and a thick crust. Sauce has a good and straight-forward tomato flavor. Whatever type of cheese they use I thought was outstanding. Overall, really good pizza! I will be back. read more

My husband loves pizza and is always looking for new places to try. He found this one with a friend and liked it so much he took me there for lunch. Definitely don't judge a book by its cover on this one! The outside definitely doesn't reflect the interior or quality of food and service! We had their famous "All the way pizza" and garlic bread with marinara. The sausage on the pizza was cut into slices and was very tasty ( and I am not a sausage fan ) the marinara was awesome! As an OSU alumni, I have had just about every pizza in the city, and I can say, hands down, Pizza House is THE BEST. If you're looking for a trendy pizza place with exotic toppings, this is not the place to go, but Pizza House serves up some fine home style pies. This family owned hole in the wall has been operating since the 1960's, and they still make the dough from scratch, use nothing but 100% real cheese, and the toppings are fantastically FRESH and piled high. Upon first taste I was blown away by how good the veggies could be. I believe the sausage is homemade as well. There menu is extensive, offering traditional and white sauce pizza, salads, baked subs, and a variety of pasta dinners including gnocchi and veal parmigiana. Their appetizers are also surprisingly good. I'm a huge fan of fried mushrooms, and Pizza House's have a crispy crust that is satisfyingly crunchy and never greasy. Prices are reasonable: a large 2-topping will run about $15, pasta dinners are $8-9. You can get a family spaghetti dinner (meatballs, spaghetti w/ sauce, garlic bread, salad), which serves about 4, for $15. The only downside is that they don't deliver, and its out of the way location makes it tough to just swing by...unless you're coming to my house! (pizza party!) For my money, this is the best pizza in Columbus. I have no idea how they make their pizza crust thick and crunchy at the same time, but they do, and it's amazing. The sauce is rich and not too sweet (a problem that plagues many Columbus pizza places) and the toppings are generously applied (you may be surprised, though, by the sausage, which is sliced, not crumbled... I avoid it). There's also a full menu of Italian food, but I can't comment on it, suffice it to say the house dressing is good. The decor in the restaurant hasn't changed since the 1980s, it seems, and the stacks of glass blocks give it a cool retro feel. Service has always been extremely friendly, but if you're going for lunch, be warned that it's slow. Pizza House does not deliver, but the separate entrance for pickup orders makes it as easy as possible. read more

When the pickiest husband in the world says, "Yeah, I'd come back." then you know it must be pretty good. The Pizza House is not something overlooked with the giant awnings that say, "Pizza House". The indoor decor is reminiscent of 1980's-90's with burgundy colored booths, and those awful block, glass tile things that are often seen in doctor's offices, and spas. But, unlike most other people, ambiance is not my main attraction, the food is, and I like it here. We settled for just a simple pizza of Old World Pepperoni, and cheese. The Old World Pepperoni was saltier than a regular pepperoni, but it worked well as a pizza topping. I'm intrigued by the meatball topping so many talk about, and will definitely give it a try next time. The crust is thin and perfect, but I would gladly order it "well done" and "crispy" as other recommend, the sauce is spot on, and the cheese is pretty much perfect, too. I really can't complain about this pizza. It's another one to join the hall of fame pizza joints that are in abundance in Columbus. We tried a couple other things. The Chicken Parm sub was surprisingly good, and what's this??? A REAL thick and juicy chicken breast on my sub instead of a pre-processed patty!? Oh my, Good Sir! A high recommendation for this place if you're out and craving a decent thin pizza, but Donatos doesn't seem to be appealing to you. read more

This place is amazing - and for all the "right" reasons. I see Pizza House as one of those 1980s flicks that is so completely retro and ridiculous in 2012 that it's actually kind of awesome. Think Surf Nazis Must Die or Killer Klowns from Outer Space (yep, these films exist). Let me lay it out for you. You walk into PH and everything is white - and I mean WHITE: floors, walls, ceiling - while the booths and seating are blistering burgundy. Next you'll want to admire all the glass blocks that create an 80s Super Mario-like fortress between you and the restaurant. Walk yourself into the main dining are and please look up toward the ceiling and admire yourself. That's right, in the middle of the restaurant there are mirrors on the ceiling. Rawr. Look to the wall and you have white lattice with vines and grapes on them - please no climbing, it doesn't look all that sturdy. These different aspects of the restaurant conspire to bring you back to those days where zubaz were in (thank you MC Hammer) and April was being saved by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles daily. PH, you are amazingly ridiculous. The food, however, had decidedly less 80s inspiration, but was tasty. We had the cheesy garlic bread, which was fine, but nothing I was blown away by. I would probably pass on this option next time. Next we ordered a pizza that was half pepperoni and half veggie. I'm usually not into veggie pizza, but WOW, the veggie side easily blew the pepperoni side away. The vegetables were very fresh and really complimented the pizza, moreso than did the pepperoni side. I feel as though the pepperoni overpowered the rest of the ingredients and not necessarily in a good way. For once in my life I am actually recommending a veggie pizza. Maybe even for folks who don't usually like veggie pizza. I don't think I'll make it back to Pizza House, but my experience was definitely a fun one. There's nothing fancy about it, it's just straight up good pizza. Pizza House is also only a few minutes from my house, which is a major plus, especially since they don't deliver. My friend and I ordered some one night and I think it took me 10 minutes to get there, pick up and pay for my pizza, and get back home. Even though I live so close, I had never been in this area and almost passed it by! So it's sort of a strange location but not really...so make sure you're paying attention or you'll miss it. The place was packed, which is definitely a good sign. Lots of people waiting for pickup too. They've been around for awhile so have quite a following. I used to live a few blocks away from Pizza House. Probably once a week, my brothers and I would get pepperoni and meatball on a large pizza. This combination is out of this world. I don't stop in to eat here much, probably only once a year, but the place is kept clean and the servers are nice. Food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. I guess I don't get it. I know. Everybody loves Pizza House. It wouldn't be fair for me to base my review on the opinions of others though. My wife and I dined in and decided to try a bit of everything. Aside from the 80s decor, the restaurant was clean. The oversized, overstuffed booth in which we were seated reminded me of a scene from a bad movie. But, more importantly, onto the food. We ordered a pizza (pepperoni), and a variety of appetizers and a salad. The appetizers all appeared to be of the cheap wholesale variety and the predominant taste was grease. The pizza was primarily thick dough, flavored with grease, covered in copious amounts of bland sauce and "cheese". The problem wasn't a style issue. I can go for a thick chewy crust and lots of melty cheese. There was a fundamental lack of flavor. Everything was so incredibly greasy that any flavors that may have existed never stood a chance of actually contacting my tongue. I honestly don't remember if the service was good or not, so I won't ding them on that. We ordered a lot of food, expecting to take home a ton of leftovers. But, we ended up leaving it all there. I don't live anywhere near this place, but this is my new neighborhood pizza joint. Luckily, I went to a party here so I got try several different types of pizza at one time. All of which are tasty. The toppings are all fresh and generous, the dough is not to thin not to thick, the sauce is a sweet and spicy mixture which makes it all taste great. The BBQ Chicken puts California Pizza Kitchen to shame. The Pepperoni is a classic done simple, done right. The Veggie pizza is nice, but I don't go to a pizza place to be a vegetarian. My only gripe was that the Meat Lovers had too much meat on it! Billy, the owner, is a nice guy, Ericka who was our server was so helpful. It really was a great night. read more

We went to The Pizza House for the first time tonight, as I was craving some REAL pizza with a crispy crust. Read a few reviews on Yelp and settled on this venue. The decor is...interesting. There are Grecian columns, white walls and glass bricks. It reminds me of a set that my high school drama club built when we were putting on The Breakfast Club, but I digress. Also, the muzak was awful. The few times that I noticed what was playing, it drove me nuts. Despite the atmospheric troubles, this place manages to make a great pizza pie. The crust is a little thicker than I'm used to for a thin crust, but it's nice and crispy. We ordered a large "old world" pepperoni pizza, and it was way more food than I had expected. The pepperoni was deliciously spicy and curled up and crispy on the edges. Because of the high cook temp, it wasn't half as greasy as the crap I'm used to getting from Donatos. This place is a bit out of the way, but definitely worth stopping by. With two sodas, an appetizer, and this huge pizza that we still have half of for leftovers, we paid $25, so it's a great value for the quality of the food. read more

We also tried some meatballs which were tasty but I like mine a bit more airy...there's were a touch dense. Been coming to this place since I was a kid. I live in St. Louis now, so try to eat here if I'm ever passing through. Got a large pepperoni and garlic bread. Pizza was great, although not sure why I got regular pepperonis, they always used to be smaller and would curl up. Still food was great. 4 stars. Here's the problem. The service. Waitress took our order (not in a nice way). She brought our drinks, and she didn't stop by our table for 30 minutes until our meal was done. (A different waitress refilled our sodas) When she bought the check, she set it down, grabbed our food (which I wanted boxed) and walked off without saying a single word. I mean , WTF?! I'm on vacation , and have overtipped every waitress/waiter for the past week. Well, this rude person who shouldn't be waiting on the public, got a dollar and some change. And really, I probably shouldn't have done that- but I'm too nice. Anyhow- I'll be back because of the food. But if this waitress is assigned to us (I won't forget her face) , I will request another. Pizza House is classic small-town pizza. With so many choices around town, we hit PH only a few times a year. There are two entrances to Pizza House, one for dining room service and another a bit south for carryout orders. No delivery and no patio - but the staff is friendly and the dining room is often packed with people. They do serve alcohol. PH has a variety of appetizers on their menu, and I'm partial to their garlic bread. They also have a version of caprese salad that uses oregano rather than basil, which is tasty. For dinner, almost everything Italian is possible here, and they've even slipped in a few other cuisines to offer things like fish and chips. Tons of subs and other sandwiches, too. Okay, but let's be real: the reason to come to Pizza House is for the traditional thin-crust, topping-heavy pies they serve (they also have a thicker-crust option, but why tempt fate). Slightly sweet sauce, a good amount of cheese, and toppings piled high, right to the edge - if that sounds like your thing, Pizza House is for you. We typically order the all-the-way, which is traditional pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion. They have white pizzas and plenty of other combinations and specialty pies, and meatballs as a pizza topping (yum). You'll not go wrong with a Pizza House pizza. read more

The decor and atmosphere leave alot to be desired, but it's a neighborhood pizza joint.....so not sure what they would do. The thing my hubby and I were pumped about was the new gluten free pizza. This is only getting a 3 star because the hubby said he'd go back if he was in the neighborhood and I told him I'd drive up the street to Massey's. When I see 5 stars for pizza on a review that has more than 1 or 2 reviews, I'm there just because good pizza seems to be so hard to find...still is. Someone said it was thick which is what lured me in, it was not. It's as thick as a Donatos thin crust. It looked good and it tasted like both real and fake garlic exploded all over it so kudos for trying for big flavor but I don't like that to be my only flavor. It was really greasy and if I'm only to have napkin soaking greasy pizza, it'll be Ange's, post paper towel patdown. It wasn't the worst pizza I've ever had, slightly above average but neither of us get the 5 star ratings. We must just have a different pizza palate. *shrug* read more

Another in the Tuesday pizza night series........... The wife and I got around to trying Pizza House. The great reviews left me with high hopes (big pizza pie in the sky hopes). The service was great - no complaints there. Of course, I'm really out to review the pizza in my quest to find Columbus' best. Let's face it, pizza has three key components: crust, sauce and cheese/toppings. As to crust, I prefer some crispness with that pillowy chewiness inside around the rim. I've never understood the selling point in "edge to edge" toppings. The middle is the same as the edge - give me some variety! Give me that arced shaped piece of artisan bread to finish after I've enjoyed the inner circle of the pie! Yes, I'm a crust fan. As to cheese and sauce, you just need a good ratio (not too much cheese so as to solidify into a block and enough sauce so I can taste it). Pizza House offers the "edge to edge" variety pizza. Strike one for me. If that's your style, you may love the place. The crust itself was crispy without being cracker like. The sauce was good, but not quite enough of it. The cheese amount was nailed. We opted for "old world pepperoni" and mushroom. I honestly could tell no difference between this "old world" pep and the pep I get anywhere else. The pepperoni was curled up with some crispness (I do like that). Bottom line: good pizza, but not great by my criteria. Nothing that I would have a craving for to send me back for a repeat visit. read more

Having grown up nearby, Pizza House has always been my favorite pizza, subs and spaghetti in Columbus. Anytime we order from somewhere else, we judge it on how it compares to the best. I have favorites - pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, their Italian subs, and the spaghetti dinner with one meatball, a salad with the house Italian, bread and butter - which is what I ordered yesterday when we went for lunch. It didn't disappoint. The flavor and spices in the sauce I haven't been able to find anywhere else. And the portions are ample - I basically split the meal in half before I even start eating and take home the other half to reheat the next day and enjoy it again. My husband discovered their gluten free crust pizza and he gets it most every time now. I have to say it is really good - though it isn't exactly the same as their regular pizza, it is a great substitute if you are eating gf for health/dietary reasons. You still get all the same flavors of the sauce and toppings and the gf crust is crunchy and thin. The location is sort of tucked away but is often filled with regulars and folks that grew up on Pizza House. The staff is very friendly. You can often see the owner come out of the kitchen to greet guests, still wearing his apron from making the pizzas. A real family place.
