We met my mom here for dinner tonight. We took our oldest daughter her for the first time. She has been staying with us for a few months until her house is finished being renovated. I ordered the Lasagna and it was delicious! This is one of my favorites here! Love the flavors! I honestly feel the lasagna is the best in town! We ordered my boys a pepperoni pizza, we ordered some cheese bread with dipping sauce and Alfredo sauce not realizing they give you garlic bread too. My husband got Angelo's pasta and I got the pasta combo, he got the menstrone soup and I got the lemon chicken soup. Everything, literally everything we ordered was superb. The reviews for Pizza Italiano are quite scattered, ranging from "You won't be disappointed" to "The worst pizza I've ever had." Curiosity got the best of me, which it often does, along with a craving for some home-cooked Italian fare, so I decided to pay a visit one evening and see for myself. From the outside, the building is very dated and nondescript. It's seen better days....as in the 80s-90s, and the inside is very much the same. Definitely not "impress my Tinder date" material. You know those fine Italian restaurants that are the quintessential settings for marriage proposals? Yeah, well here it's more like "divorce papers." It's dim, but not for ambience, I think that's what the standing Renuzit air freshener cone underneath the TV is for. Keeping it classy, Yeeps. The dining area isn't expansive by any means, but rather quaint, though there was one larger table to the right of the entrance that was occupied by a group of local cops. I started with an order of cheese bread, and literally....it was just that. Square slices of what I hope was melted mozzarella on small slivers of bread. No butter, no herbs,...no joke. What saved it was the scrumptious marinara sauce that's served on the side for dipping. Now, the sauce here is legit, I will say that. Knowing this, I eagerly placed my order for Chicken Parm, my favorite Italian dish. It comes with a side salad...pretty unremarkable...heavy on the iceburg and bottled ranch, and fresh baked garlic bread, which needed a touch more garlic. Promptly after, the main course was served, and I must profess....the portions are HUGE. The chicken took up an entire plate, and the spaghetti was piled atop another. Both were smothered in the delicious marinara, and I greedily ate my way to food baby status. The leftovers proved useful during "Redbox movie night" later in the evening. If atmosphere and appearance isn't a big issue, and it's all about the food for you, then yes, I recommend this establishment. I can't comment about the pizza since I didn't order it, so to each his own on that. The service was on point, the kind lady seemed to be one of the owners and had a charming disposition. We ate here many years ago, when it was run by the previous owners. It was good but not enough to wow us to come back. A friend of ours encouraged us to give this place a go again, saying the "new' owners (of a few years now) really do a fantastic job. He wasn't kidding. The building on Normandy is older and unassuming and you'd never know the treasure inside. It's very casual inside, a mix of Greek and Italian tchotchkes. In fact, the menu is also a mix of Italian and Greek fare, something I've only seen here in NE Florida. It's small and cozy, with a tiny kitchen. Food is prepared when ordered, so this is not a fast food place. It was slow when we got there, with a brisk take out service, but filled up fast as the evening went on. Most of the patrons appeared to be neighborhood regulars. My husband ordered an appetizer because he was starving - the pepperoni cheese bread with sauce. We had a good laugh when it came out, see the picture to understand why. It was not what we expected - sliced bread with a pepperoni and a bit of cheese on each piece. The joke was on us though, because it was good Italian bread, spicy pepperoni, nice cheese and WOWZA some of the best marinara sauce I've ever had in my life. Our dinner came with salad, a standard one with a choice of dressing - many house-made. I chose blue cheese and my husband chose Italian. Both were delicious and definitely did not come out of a bottle. Dinner arrived, the piping hot crocks carried in on plastic plates, thankfully. My husband ordered the ziti with sausage. Absolutely delicious, good quality meat, pasta perfectly cooked, more of that fabulous marinara sauce and lots of melted cheese. I ordered the stuffed shells which did not come with meat, but there was a choice to add either a meatball, sausage or mushrooms for an additional dollar. I chose the meatball. I'm very glad I did. It came baked in with my three stuffed shells and while a very good size, was light and tasty. My shells were stuffed very generously with a delicious ricotta mixture. We stretched our necks a lot and saw food on other tables, all looked really good. The very customizable pizza appeared to be a popular thing to order, as was the lasagna. The prices are insanely good, I posted pictures of the menu so check it out. This place is definitely going on our repeat list for good, homemade style Italian food. No reason at all to hit the name brand chains when we can get better quality for better prices here at a mom and pop place! read more

We get there during a monsoon, so we run in drenched ready to eat comfort food. Apparently they have been here forever and are a local favorite. Cute small place with friendly service and several tables and chairs. We were seated as soon as we got there, and started with drinks. We both ordered entrees: Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Marsala which comes with garlic bread, side salad, and side of pasta. Out comes the garlic bread....it's a win! The bread was crunchy, loaded with butter and garlic....dream bread! Next comes our salads....and again, it's a win! Salad was minimal but delish. Now here comes the comfort food. My chicken Parm was a sight for sore eyes, as the portions are so big. My pasta and chicken were perfect! (I had leftovers) The other dish...not so good. The chicken marsala came out and it was smothered in grey sauce, canned mushrooms, and pieces of chicken that looked undercooked. He took a few bites....and that was that. He even stated that the noodles were a little off...but we would definitely not be ordering that again. Everything was SO good that we - no joke - stayed in the area an extra day just to have another meal from Pizza Italiano. The exterior of Pizza Italiano is that of an unassuming hole in the wall. We quickly learned that the food quality and hospitable service of this small, family owned business keep their number of repeat customers growing so much so that they need not invest in fancy curb appeal. When you walk inside, you'll notice the delicious aroma of Italian spices, a tiny front "counter" (see picture), and possibly a crowd of folks waiting for to-go orders. The noise level isn't as silent as a morgue, but is also not distractingly loud, which can be the case in many busy restaurants during peak meal times. The dining area decor is simple, but that's.not.why.you.go.here. I collected our first to-go order from Angelo and commented on how good the place smelled. He explained his family owns the restaurant and his parents do all of the cooking from scratch. On our second visit, I was greeted by Angelo's mom. I told her we had just had dinner from there the previous night but could not resist having it again so soon because it was so delicious. I told her that their garlic bread actually had a great blend of Italian spices that we had not tasted elsewhere. (Theirs is not the typical, bland, slightly garlicky buttered French bread.) I told her the spaghetti sauce tasted like a dish my Sicilian grandmother used to make. She explained - in her thick accent - that she and her husband make everything from scratch in their kitchen and take pride in making good food. Please please please do not go to this place based on the many wonderful reviews like I did. I am truly flabbergasted by how those individuals could think this is good pizza. The crust = pre-made. Not a hand tossed pizza dough by any means. I mean, look at the pictures on yelp and it's very apparent! Their pizza is aggressively American middle school cafeteria style pizza. A weirdly bland flavor to the crust too. Woof. The chicken parm was certainly better, but that doesn't mean much. The sauce was not good. The chicken was very tender though I gotta say. I really like this place, especially since there aren't that many good places on the Westside. However, we were there Saturday and they were having a really, really bad night. We waited at least 45 minutes before getting anything (food or drinks), when we finally got our food my ziti was missing the meatballs & I had to wait longer and we never got the garlic bread despite asking 3 times. We were there from about 5:45 until we finally got our check and left about 7:30. I think they only had 1 waitress for a full house and a ton of to-go orders which she was handling as well. It's a Monday night, I don't want to cook and my husband wanted lasagna. So, we ended up here. I've driven right by this place a hundred time and didn't even realize it exists, until I started googling to find lasagna. It's run down appearance is of an old building that's obviously outdated and neglected inside and out. I feel like this place could use a Gordon Ramsey makeover and spruce it up! The staff was so nice and pleasant, very rare sometimes today. This place is small and they were having a very large dinner party tonight so it got a bit loud with ambient noise, but it was nice to hear and see people socializing and enjoying each other's company. Despite the large crowd, we were attended to quite promptly in all aspects. We got a 1/2 carafe of wine...which turned out to be a great deal, was 4 glasses total. We both ordered entrees which came with a side salad. My husband decided he wanted antipasto instead of the usual side salad, which will cost you extra. Antipasto turned out to be ham, pepperoni, shredded mozzeralla on a bed of iceberg lettuce. In my opinion not an antipasto salad. My side salad was also iceberg lettuce with 1/2 slice tomato, 3 rings of green pepper and onion. Here's my advice...the iceberg lettuce is bitter and old looking...please stop serving it, instead use romaine. The house dressing was okay, not my favorite house made Italian I've ever eaten. The marinara on our pasta was well seasoned-salted, tangy and very savory. The pasta was cooked to done not aldente, but is preserved not fresh pasta. The bread basket was too much, you should only serve one piece for each customer and it was not fresh bread, it's premade. The ricotta was bit gritty, not as creamy as I would've liked inside my dish. My husband said his sausage was bland on his lasagna. The mozzeralla melted on top of the entrees is square? What happened to freshly grated Italian cheeses? After your meal if you like chocolate you must have a piece of the chocolate ganache cake! Hands down the best creamiest I've ever eaten! My husband and I as well as two friends eat here at least 2 times a month. We love the food and the service. i especially like the homemade blue cheese dressing and the limoncello cake. I called one evening to place a next day order for pizza to pick up at 11 and was told to call the next morning about 10:30 to place my order although they open at 11. I did and the pizza was ready by 11 and I was so pleased. Today, I tried to order online thru doordash but pickup and decided I would call instead. I called about 10:20 just to take a chance my order could be taken early. A man, I assume was the owner Leo said something and I asked what, and he shouts we open 11. I just had surgery on my foot and maybe that is why the shout hurt my feelings. Why tell me one day I can call early by one of the nice waitresses and be shouted out we open 11 on another day.
