By far the WORST delivery food experience I have ever had. Ordered a (vegetarian) pesto pizza for delivery (because most of my group was vegetarian). Took forever to arrive. When it finally got here it was not what we ordered, it was covered in meat. I'm sorry "pesto" and "combination" sound nothing alike. We called back, they begrudgingly said they would bring us the right pizza. An hour later they showed up, with a pesto pizza, and asked me to pay for it again! When I refused the delivery woman yelled at us and left with the pesto pizza. I am honestly still appalled and flabbergasted by the whole experience. If I could give them negative stars I would. I loved their thin crust pizza! Crust was perfect. I ordered the pesto sauce special 15 minutes before the restaurant closed and the owner said it was the last order and she would deliver it herself, which she did. (We had a nice chat--she was awesome.) I also had the Greek salad, which was huge and had whole greek olives - pluses for that because the pitted ones are always soggy and don't have as much flavor. All the other salad ingredients were fresh and they used Romaine rather than the more common iceberg lettuce. I've lived here for about a year and never had a really great pizza until this one, except Little Star, which doesn't deliver. I thought this pizza was alright. I HAVE had better. The crust was VERY thin and had no flavor. It also didn't look baked all the way. There barely was any sauce. The sauce was weak. The toppings were good, but I had to add some salt to give it more flavor. I think the La Val's in Berkeley is way better from what I remember. I have not been there in a long time. La Val's is ok pizza. Ain't nothin' wrong with it, and nothin' special about it. It's New York style, which I like; but it seems like frozen crust - a little soggy - of course so are a lot of places in New York. Decor is a nothing, ambience is a nothing. Don't go there to eat. Just do take out, or have it delivered - this isn't a hang-out, dine-in place - just get your pizza and go. ~Edit~ That was then. NOW there seems to have been a chang up in management - instead of New York, now it's Chicago style. Much more substantial pizza these days - thicker crust, thicker cheese, thicker sauce, heavier toppings, bigger price tag. It's pretty good, for a mid-west pizza - not usally my thing - I'm a New Yorker, so what can I say? I'm not disrespecting the Chicago style - I'm just saying, it's not my thing, ok? I take a class late in Oakland and I wanted to bring home food. I called La Val's which is on my route home to El Cerrito and ordered a vegetarian Calzone (with extra sauce) and a Greek salad. By the time I drove there from Oakland it was ready for me. When I got home, I did reheat it because I like mine extra crisp and hot but it was really good. Nothing fancy, just very decent and fresh tasting, with the extra sauce I requested. We enjoyed the salad with big chunks of feta and peppers - for me it didn't even need the dressing it came with. Also, the man who bakes the pizzas is always so sweet and kind to us. I will be ordering again in the future. Also the Calzone is huge. I ate it for 3 days straight, no joke. read more

La Val, your spinach ravioli was mediocre. Your home made bread was just your pizza dough that you baked plainly. Your pizza, I'm sorry but it sucks! The color or looks of your pizza was NOT appetizing. But we tried it. Your Paneer tikka pizza creamy sauce you used sounded appetizing but guess what? It tasted weird!! You added some type of powdered seasoning to the pizza, which tasted close to cinnamon. Yuck! The paneer itself was just straight up plain cottage cheese cubes. I asked for extra cheese, which I paid extra for, but it came overcooked. Your Pepperoni pizza? I paid extra for extra cheese as well, same thing, overcooked! There was barely any sauce!!! Why?? I requested that you please lightly bake our crust, but you overcooked the pizzas anyway!!! We paid a little over $50 on your food, THANKS you totally scorched that! You just lost a customer. It wasn't just me either, you had 4 people to impress. One of them rarely dislikes a food she tries, but this time, NOPE wouldn't eat it. If that tells you anything!!! This food is great! Had it for the first time and will be back. - Sun-dried tomato pizza: Simple, a little smoky. Great dough, great sauce. - Green salad: SUPER FRESH, very satisfying. It is my go-to pizza place, it is average Bay Area prices but they have great deals like 2 medium 2-topping pizzas for $20, and you can get pizza by the slice. my wife and I were on san Pablo driving , And I spotted A La Val's pizza place, I knew of La Val's from the one in Alameda so I knew they were good Pizza, i eat there alot over the years, And I was hungry , so we stopped, I looked at the menu on wall, and noticed, dessert pizza,wow i love it, I had it in Brasil. The pizza arrived over an hour late, and when I called they tried to lie their way out of it. When the pizza did arrive, the delivery guy tried to over-charge me (with a grin). I too grew up on La Vals. I've been eating there for ~30 years (Northside on Euclid, then later on Durant, and now at the one on San Pablo in Albany). I don't live in the East Bay any more (grew up in El Cerrito), but travel frequently for work. Whenever I fly back in to Oakland, and the timing is right (not 6am) I order a pizza when I leave the airport and pick it up and eat it on the way home to Santa Rosa. My favorite is Salami, Mushrooms, and Sausage. One thing I especially like about La Vals is that it is consistent...the flavor, the crust, the toppings, and the sauce are incredible. I had a really good experience with La Val's. On the phone the person gave me some tips according the toppings that I like. The pizza - Catupiry Special was delicious. When the driver came to my house I would pay part with the yelp certificate, when I realized that saturday wasn't a good day to use it. She introduced herself as the owner and accepted anyway. This place was so disappointing, I got a Yelp account just to post about it. First of all, 1 star is for the lovely woman behind the counter. She is super sweet and nice, and really tried to make us comfortable. The second star is for the totally fresh ingredients they put on our pizza and how non-greasy it was. The lack of additional stars is due to the fact that despite the fresh toppings, our pizza was tasteless. The crust was boring, with no flavor, and a bready texture (rather than the pleasantly chewy texture we prefer). It really was worse than a frozen store pizza and about 4 times the price. In addition, we waited at least 45 minutes for the pizza even though no other orders came through while we were there. We tried this place because we had just gone to a Cal football game and enjoyed some delicious pre-game pizza at the La Val's on Euclid. But the Albany La Val's is NOTHING like it. The menu is different, the product is inferior, and the prices are horrendous. Sorry to the nice lady at the counter, but we won't be returning. read more
