5 stars, seriously?! After reading all the rave reviews, I thought I'd give this place a shot. About the only thing that was impressive was the price. I found it very greasy with and dry, bland crust. I drove by at least 10 other pizza places on the way over here that are 10 times better. I guess if you live close by and just want cheap pizza, it's fine, but I don't see how so many people are calling this place "amazing", especially considering how many really good pizza places are just minutes away. read more

We tried Pizza Roma after reading the great reviews on this site. Even with the outstanding reviews here, we thought there was no way their pizza could be better than our favorite place in Boston's famed North End. In a word: incredible. Hands down, this is the best pizza we've ever had. We shared a pepperoni/onion and a sliced tomato pizza. The crust was thin and wonderful. The sauce, complex and flavorful, the ingredients all top notch. My wife also tried a slice of their Sicilian pizza. She found the thick crust light and airy and longed for more. With only three in our party, there were plenty of left-overs to enjoy the next day. Pizza Roma is a small hole-the-wall place located in a cluster of store fronts along Waverly Ave in Watertown. Seating is limited to a single narrow counter with a half dozen stools, so take out is your best option. The owners are outgoing and friendly and the older gentleman often breaks out in songs from the 'old country.' Close your eyes for a moment, and imagine you're in an authentic pizzeria somewhere in Italia. The prices are a bargain compared to the large commercial chains nearby. I really like hole in wall "cash only" places like this b/c it's always about the food and nothing else. My first experience here was a little disappointing as I ordered a small cheese, and it arrived slightly burnt. I ate the pizza and got really sick afterwards. I tend to get sick after eating any type of charred food and really need to be cautious of consuming any burnt foods. However, since I did enjoy the taste of the cheese and sauce, I decided to come back again. This time, I told the guy to make sure it doesn't get burnt, and the pizza was delicious!! LOVE being able to get good Sicilian pizza and it is pretty darn good as is the regular Italian style pizza. I also like their hot oil they have, tastes good on just about anything. I always grab a slice or two on my way out of the OPG next door. read more

The best pizza in these parts and believe me, I have tried them all. I haven't tried their Sicilian so I can't vouch for that but their regular pizza and calzones are simply delicious. They don't deliver but the comedy provided by the owner when you go in will be worth the trip. read more

I don't know what else to say other than this place has excellent pizza. If you like Sicilian pizza, I think this place has some of the best I've ever had. Go in and grab a slice, have them heat it for a minute and you'll be in heaven. Joe and the rest of the guys that work here are friendly and hilarious. Just a very average pizza place. Went there after looking at the rating but the place did not meet upto its expectations at all. This is a real old school pizza joint! The pizza is really quite good! Don't be fooled by the small hole in the wall set up! - standing at the counter no seating, or take out only - this place cares about the details! Order an Italian sub and they pull out the big Prosciutto and slice what they need for that sub fresh and then put the rest away! Really good! You won't be disappointed! I've placed a number of orders since my original review and I haven't been disappointed with any of the pies I've ordered from here. The cheese/sauce ratio has been spot-on, and their properly executed thin crust pizza is a welcome sight in an area dominated by thicker Greek style pizza. read more

Great food for good prices. I have tried the chic parmigiana excellent ! great bread ,i get it toasted, soft homemade cutlet, the sauce is perfect old school not acidic like most. I love this place to the core and you can't beat their prices! The only strike against Pizza Roma is that I'm a healthy eater and every time I order pizza (which I love!!), I have to spell out that I want them to put only a little bit of cheese on. Otherwise, they just put way too much cheese on. Unfortunately, the wonderful owner (a super friendly and jovial Italian guy) often forgets and puts the usual level of cheese on anyway. I'd still gladly pick off the excess cheese than order pizza from someplace else! read more

Pizza Roma is Incredible! The pizza is great, the Chicken Parm is amazing and the Lasagna is to die for ...add a few meatballs (that tase just like Grandma use to make)..and its even better! AND everything is 'homemade'...not frozen or store-bought ! Joe is a great guy who will keep you in stitches. His boys, Gennaro & Joey, and his wife Anna Maria are just so warm and friendly... its like you're part of the family sitting in your grandma's kitchen. They'll make you feel right at home. Watertown just wouldnt be Watertown without Pizza Roma ! BTW: in reponse to 'Dan from Hadley' who wrote that everytime he stops in "there is a cop in there chewing the fat"...thats because the entire Watertown police & fire department eat there. I'm red blooded Italian. This place by far is the best pizza and best value in the area and surrounding towns. It's a family run business by a husband and wife Italian team and is easily the very best pizza around. Unfortunate that it's basically a takeout (small place) and just street parking - but no problem , take it home and enjoy! Definetly THE BEST around and at excellent/reasonable prices. Anyone that gives this place 3 or more stars does NOT know good or even fair pizza! The stuff tastes goos when they make it, though mushy and not crisp. But, wait till next day if you saved any. It is tasteless nad dry the next day! It's all in the very cheap ingredients....whoever they buy their pizza dough from definetly is taking huge shortcuts or does not know how to make dough. Tomato sauce is cheap bulk canned stufff that will burn some stomachs. Sure cops stop there, it's tasty when you eat it and CHEAP price, besides they have some sandwiches too. Best pizza I've had in the Watertown/Belmont area. Not too much sauce, and plenty of cheese, baked until it has that perfect golden-brown crusty consistency. We got garlic, pepperoni, meatballs, mushrooms, and black olives on ours. They don't skimp on the toppings. The subs are fantastic, too. I highly recommend the North End sub, which has prosciutto, salami, and provolone. They make the subs so that the toppings don't fall out. It's cash-only, but there's an ATM in-store. The service is always fast, but they're so good that I'd still order from here even if it wasn't. read more

We thought we'd try Pizza Roma since it was near our Sat night destination. We were not disappointed. It's a small place, but the service was exceptional. The staff were chatty with all the regulars and friendly with us, first timers. The pizza was fabulous and not too pricey.
