I came here because of the Yelp reviews. First if you want to sit somewhere besides the bar or the front two tables make sure to make a reservation. I kept hearing everyone with a reservation getting an option for if they wanted to sit upstairs, outside and find the best place for them. Those without one were offered the bar or the front two tables, then once that was filled were turned away. I'm still surprised when the place was empty they turned business away. The food: the bruschetta was good, however the bread was very soft in the middle barely holding the tomatoes. The pizza was very thin. I understand new from style pizza however the toppings slipped off because the dough was so thin. Speaking of the dough it tasted like flavorless naan. It was chewy in some parts as if it was not completely done. The service: this was the redeeming quality. The service and server assistant were pleasant and they checked on me throughout the meal. My water was never empty which is a good sign and cleared the plates immediate after I finished. David was there to provide great service. I will not return to this location, very underwhelming for what I received. read more

On a tight schedule to get to the Met for an opera we walked from our hotel over to the place. Nothing fancy about this place. We were seated at a 4 top up front and got menus right away. But the waiter didn't return so I flagged down a more senior guy who came right over. I told him we had to get to a show and with that he placed our order and got to it. Less than 10 mins our pizza came out with wine etc. The pizza was perfect I think he put us in front of the line since it came out so fast. They use buffalo mozzarella and the crust was light airy and freckled with char!! One bite and it was heaven. So I had to ask the man with the Italian accent where he was from, and he says proudly Naples!! Well of course....and the pies were that good. I'll be back many times, he's been there for 11 years and they have a thing. He told me they make homemade pastas so have to try it!! Great service and even better food and wine!!! Side note: we went back the next day for lunch and got the homemade pasta, I got the Ragu and Sandra got the Genovese, to our delight both were superb. I gave it five stars because it deserves more then four. I usually grade based on a price to Quality ratio and the neighborhood competition. It's a small restaurant hiding now under scaffolding. My wife had the special meatball's appetizer and I had the Branzino, we shared a broccoli rabe appetizer. My wife loved the meatballs and the branzino was the best I've ever had. It was moist and tender, I usually don't order branzino, but this was cooked in parchment paper. Fantastic. read more

This place is unbelievable. They served us bread and water and charged us $40! No warning of any kind and every table has the same bread and water. If they wanted to do the right thing they would reverse the charge. Be warned they are scammers! Food was good but way too small for the portions. read more

Service was outstanding. Everyone was very kind. The food was exquisite. A fine neighborhood establishment. From the moment we entered, it was about us, and what they could do for us. Staff were knowledgeable about the menu items. I eat meat, hubby does not. They were helpful in making our selections. We started with Friturra di mare, breaded and fried shrimp and calimari. Wonderful, delicate. We shared a Maccaronara Cacio e Pepe. Pasta is homemade, outstanding, as was the sauce. Also shared a Quattro Gusti Pizze. This is four slices in one pizza. Easy for me to take the meat and Hubby to avoid the meat. Meal was topped off by an order of (3 small) canolis and a pane cota (special). read more

Food is delicious. This review had to be written because of the service experienced. My spouse and I (after a matinee show) thought we could grab a 5 PM dinner. I love the food here and we are regulars. We did not have any reservations but thought we could get in given it was so early on a Saturday night. We enter. The restaurant is empty. I tell the hostess, "2 for dinner." She asks if we have a reservation... I tell her, "no we do not." She says, "then I can put you at the bar." Her non verbal communication was also very unwelcoming and rude. I then point out the restaurant is empty and would prefer a table...to which she says is not possible because we don't have a reservation. Because this young woman is so unpleasant, we decide to leave, to which the hostess could care less if we left. Half a block away, my spouse says "let's check if they are fully booked." We check to find out the restaurant's online system has plenty of open reservations. We book one. At this point, I'm irate- given how concrete this situation is. There is a man, whom looks like the boss, holding the door when we return. His name is Valentino and is the manager. I try to explain to him that WE WERE JUST DENIED A TABLE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE A RESERVATION AND TURNED AWAY, when there are plenty of reservations available! Instead of diffusing the situation, Valentino begins to argue with me! He wasn't even listening nor concerned. Just kept waving us in...and then tried to put us at the bar! After realizing what this is all about, he sweeps us off to the most uncomfortable table in the joint. To his credit, he did attempt to come by later and, I suppose in his way ? apologize by telling us to "ask for him next time." No actual accountability for the lack of professionalism and ridiculousness of this situation. For a pizza, soup and pasta and $100 later we should have gone somewhere else. We did not enjoy our food given this encounter. We don't enjoy paying to feel unwelcome. We won't be going back, which is a shame because they do have a decent pizza when in midtown. read more

Meh. Another needlessly fancy Italian place in Manhattan. Shocker. Nothing really simple here, I was hoping for some home style Italian... and this wasn't it. Service wasn't bad. Focus was more on presentation. Went for something simple and an Italian staple, speg/meatballs. Sauce was thin and more like tomato soup, meatballs were way small and tough. Certainly not how mom did it. But that's how they like it I guess. read more

Had a wonderful lunch here. We were just walking by and decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. We had a smoked mozzarella pizza with meat ragu sauce. TO DIE FOR!!!!! We split it so the pizza portion is generous. I ordered bruschetta, worrying a bit about poor flavor tomatoes but they were surprisingly good. So I can recommend it too. Anyway, the restaurant was full but as walk- ins they nicely attended to us found us a spot upstairs. Great service and apparently the locals like it as again it was busy. read more

The food quality is very high, and there is a wide variety of light pizzas and pasta for a late night in Manhattan. During my two years at PizzArte, I never had problems until the second year, when I got food poisoning from the Tiramisu. Due to this, the hygiene of this establishment comes into question, as it could significantly hinder the number of future customers. Unfortunately, my whole trip was ruined because of how nasty an infection I got. Please DO NOT make the same mistake I did. read more

This was a quality meal with good service. There is better pizza in NYC, but this was good. It was a nice break after cruising around Central Park and getting a rest in a nice, cool place. Food and service was good. Only doesn't get 5 stars because there is pizza I prefer elsewhere, but still worth a trip if you're in the area. read more

Gave Pizzarte another try after many years and unfortunately the food at this restaurant is just not good. We ordered two pizzas and both were soggy. So soggy that the bottom of both pizzas ripped apart. We also had the salmon which was just okay, and also ordered a side of potatoes was probably the best part of the meal. Service is very friendly but despite the restaurant being pretty empty we often had to wait a long time before anyone came to refill water, bring our check, etc. Overall prices are pretty high for sb-par food quality, so we won't be returning. read more

OK, this is long overdue. I ate here in 2014, so take my review for what it is, but the place stuck with me. I sneaked away from a work conference for lunch and stumbled upon this place. I loved the pizza. The space was cozy and simple. My visit was between lunch and dinner, right before the opening World Cup match, which they may have been closing for (so I can say with near certainty, this was Thursday, June 12, 2014 around 3:30pm ). My point is, it was an unusually quiet time and I got extra attention from the friendly guys running the place. I enjoyed a glass of wine too and I remember it 9 years later. Do I remember what pizza I had? Nope. But I remember loving it in the same way I love a taco from Grand Central Market in downtown L.A. Recommended! read more

My friend and I arrived at the restaurant and were excited to eat some pizza. They poured us two glasses of water, one of which had an ambiguous black flake floating in it. We asked for a replacement. They brought us our plates, both of which were dirty and had food and dust stained on them. We asked for new plates. Time to order. We were interested in a house special elongated pizza. The waiter had an accent that made him a bit harder to understand. He said the price was $16, or so we thought. We ordered it, then we ate the pizza we thought we ordered. We got the bill, and it listed the price as $70 dollars. A $70 pizza from the big fancy Manhattan pizza shop. With dirty plates. The point is, we ordered a pizza we thought was $16, but it's possible the waiter said $60 and we misheard or misunderstood him. However, it's not possible that he said the price was $70, which is what it was. We talked to management, who were thoroughly without remorse and unhelpful. Instead of offering a free dish or a discount or anything for the situation, they offered their business card. As if we were ever going back there. read more

Had a fantastic lunch here! Two friends and I shared: + Eggplant parm app + meatballs + Tartufata pizza + Cavatelli + Neopolitan meatballs + Tiramisu + Lemon cake My favorites were the Cavatelli and desserts, though everything was fantastic. Our waiter Dominique (from Naples) was amazing. I'll definitely be back to try the minestrone soup and more pastas. read more

Been here a couple of times and the pizza is good. We've tried the gluten free and the regular. We were impressed with the crust for the gluten free pizza. On the Tonno pizza (tuna), the toppings were a little skimpy. One piece barely had any tuna. So, while the pizza itself is good, the execution on the toppings isn't quite as good. I do like the crust - it's soft and not too thin. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to eat here, but I would come back again while I'm in the area and need a quick easy bite. If you've been on the hunt for decent gluten free pizza, definitely give it a try. read more

We spent a week in New York and went out for lunch and dinner to a different spot every meal. We actually had a rule in place to have pizza at least once a day. PizzArte has won our unofficial official contest that nobody knows about. The pizza was a fantastic. It can certainly be shared if you order appetizers and dessert. It really was so good, I didn't even think to snap a picture of it before we devoured it. They also have a great selection of wines that are decently priced. The staff were the most pleasant, inviting, and lovely people. And that's saying a lot; we're from the south, we know hospitality. This is a fantastic spot for a date night or a very small group of friends. They do have one large table upstairs in the back if you have a larger group but I would recommend a reservation if you do have a bigger group. read more

PizzArte is a decent sit-down neopolitan style pizza place, but is priced expensive for what it is. Only real reason to come here is the location (heart of midtown next to a lot of offices). Food 3/5: I got the eggplant ravioli, which was a bit disappointing, and 2 pizzas (burrata and the fried dough one). The burrata pizza was great in concept but the crust was a bit undercooked. The fried dough pizza was solid and I would definitely recommend this to diners who enjoy it. Service + ambience 3/5: Service was fine but nothing notable. The seating was better than I'd expect for a pizza place (tables not super close to each other, enough seating). read more

Recommend reservations. Fills quickly. The food is excellent. Had the Toto pizza and it was great. There just was a lot of moist toppings, like eggplant. While cooked well, I should have opted for something with less toppings. Less is more. Ricotta cheesecake for dessert was super light and fluffy delicious. Great service, sat us right away, made us comfortable. High quality food. Definitely recommend. read more

Second (and third) time getting takeout from here. Very nice interior with a sleek bar. Great to grab a drink while you wait for your pizza. Pizza was great and just as good as I remember it from the first time we came 3-4 years ago. That shows the consistency! Staff was attentive at the bar and I've never been able to order a second beer while waiting! Would love to done in someday, but this is my go to spot of staying in midtown near the park. read more

You can get gluten free pizza in NYC! What a score to find this spot! Walked right up, got a table outside, service was spot on! The GF Pizza was delish and the crust was sooooo good! My son and his GF said this was the BEST GF Pizza they have ever had! Was a treat!!!! My Daughter and I split the freshly made pasta and used their GF a crust to dip into our pasta sauce. We enjoyed a refreshing gelato which was enough to share. We had to wait for our Uber and they were kind enough to let us charge our phone. Clean restaurant and BR but the win was the GF Pizza!!!!! read more

PizzArte is the creation of a lawyer and an executive from Campania, both of whom have lived and worked in New York for years. These two art lovers are great fans of Neapolitan traditions and understand what it takes to exceed the expectations of New Yorkers.

Meet the Business Owner: Bruno C. and Dario C.

Bruno Cilio is a business lawyer with offices in Italy as well as New York. Bruno is a talented amateur chef who felt compelled to preserve the culinary traditions of Campania. As the founder of Cilio & Partners, P.C., Bruno assists corporate and independent European investors with their business dealings in the US and American clients with their European transactions. Dario Cipollaro de l'Ero is an experienced executive and consultant for well-known luxury Neapolitan menswear brands in the U.S., who has also managed manufacturing companies in Italy, India and Indonesia.

I give them two stars because the gluten free crust is actually pretty amazing, while still being just as overpriced as gluten free pie anywhere else. All-in-all you can get a far superior pizza at Blaze Pizza for half the price, and four times the toppings. First off the crust is way to thick. If this was a real "large" pizza you could get away with a 2 inch wide crust, but with such a tiny pizza you don't need a ridiculously sized bread handle to eat it. So much crust. So little toppings. Two leaves of basil is not a topping and should not even be listed as a topping. I tried to get meatball as a topping and they said no. I saw the host skin, de-bone, and trim what looked like a grilled bronzini for a customer, in front of him, at the bar, but they couldn't slice up a half a meatball, throw it on a pizza and call it a topping? They even took the head off the bronzini which is a shame. I would've taken the cheeks off, put it on a spoonful of rice, and charged $14 for it. Which is what I had to pay for three Domino's sized meatballs in two cups of sauce. I also had a lengthy conversation with them about how I wanted Castelvetrano olives on my Margherita (which came with two leaves of basil "topping"). She tells me they don't have Castelvetrano olives. I say yes you do. She says they don't offer it as a topping. I say yes you do, that's how I know you have them They're on the Tonno pizza if you're wondering. She says she has to ask the "chef" and the chef says it's okay. Now Castelvetrano olives are the really bright green olives. So good! What we got were black greek olives. My 8 year old son who loves Castelvetrano olives, immediately saw the difference, tried it anyway, and literally spit them out and said "I hate greek olives!" Luckily they only cut up two olives so it wasn't hard to take them off. Honestly, the most disappointing pizza experience I've ever had in New York City. read more

I went on a Saturday evening with 4 adults , a 2 year old and a 5 year old. The plate of Pasta they suggested for the babies was eaten by both. wow. What the kids didn't finish, the adults ate and approved of very much. Fresh made pasta with a Marzano Tomato Marinara. We ordered the following Octopus Carpaccio, 2 Pizzas, and a Mixed seafood Grill. Everything including the olives were great, The mixed grill had a salad with it and I ate every bit. The pizza crust was crispy and flavorful, the toppings were enough and not overloaded making the pizza light and delicious. They suggested a wine and it was very tasty also! Then we ordered four deserts. First was the Tiramisu, fresh in a dish , very yummy. second was the Apple Tart and pastry creme I think, I tasted a bit and before I could get another bite it was devoured and I didn't get another taste but crumbs ( Yummy crumbs ) third was the flourless chocolate cake with almonds and a scoop of ice cream. It was hot and melty with the almonds giving it a crunchy texture that was very nice . The Kids shared a plate of three flavors of ice cream and made a nice mess of it. A great dinner and I want to go back to taste the other things that I saw on other peoples tables on the walk in. Prices are good. It is not cheap and the quality is far above many other restaurants in that the ingredients are fresh and put together expertly and with care. Melanzane Alla Parmigiana A simple preparation of baked eggplant with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. Simplicity is underrated. Order this. Frittura all'italiana This right here is a mandatory order, and a way to sample a lot of PizzArte's antipasi all at once. The sampler offers up a tasty potato croquette, pizza fritter, rice balls, zucchini, and a small version of the fried pizza montanara, but with eggplant. Spinaci Salad There's a nice selection of salads on the menu, and we were fans of this combination of spinach, golden beets, goat cheese, mango, and pistachio nuts. Paccheri al Baccalà We weren't expecting much from this pasta dish, but we were pleasantly surprised. It's a big serving of pasta with fresh tomato, Sicilian capers, olives, and squares of chopped cod. We'd order this again. Montanara Pizza It's definitely worth trying once. This fried, then baked mozzarella and parmesan pie is quite delicious. Unfortunately, it's just not as delicious as the one we love so much from Forcella. A very underrated and a very understated, Pizz'Arte serves an amazing pizza and an authentic array of Italian specialties. Popular with midtown lunch crowd on weekdays, it was practically deserted at 5;15 on Saturday, but by 6 PM, it was all filled both downstairs at the bar and upstairs. We ordered two pizzas to start, carpaccio and frittura di mare. The Montanara pizza is amazing. The dough tastes like nothing I ever had before and I ate my share of delicious pizzas both in NY and in Italy. The frittura di mare is exactly how I remember eating fresh, flash-fried seafood by the beach. We then got main courses. Hubby went for the swordfish and got a nicely sized dish with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I went with one of their pastas which we were told, were made in house. We also ordered a bottle of a white wine and although, initially, we wanted Pinot Grigio, our server recommended Gavi Gavi, same price, but it was a much smoother taste, easier on the palate than Pinot, we liked it a lot. Of course, we could not pass up the dessert. Hubby and I shared pannacotta, and our kid got an ice cream, a huge portion, so we had to help him. If you're in the mood for good quality artisan pizza before or after a visit to MoMA, then Pizzarte will suit you well. It's a little pricey for pizza ($11 for basic cheese pizza, up to $20-25 for various options), but enjoyable. We had one with sausage and mushrooms, and the "Matriciana", with a bacon-based tomato sauce, and only a sprinkling of cheese. The crust is top-notch, and tastest perfectly like the brick oven you can watch in the corner. Very fresh, and good quality. The only seating is at the bar, so you'll be side-to-side with your companion, but otherwise, a good restaurant. This is not "New York style" pizza by any means, but has a good home just a short walk from Times Square. ------------- Update: I'm going to add a star here. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, but given that the owner took the time to read and comment on the review, I would recommend that you try Pizzarte, since they obviously care about the customer experience. I don't recommend this restaurant to people that don't have taste of Italian lifestyle (that right;when you are here you are exactly in the other side of the world, you won't believe that this place is actually in Manhattan but Naples in Italy) the pizza is a standing ovations with the freshest Buffalo mozzarella in town delivered weekly to not mention the pasta wooohh fresh made home stile pasta. I was so excited about Pizzarte that I booked for a party with my old Italian friends (besides thay don't speak very much English) because the sound you hear is like sitting in Naples Vicoli little streets so beautiful the service is very excellent. I was very impressed with this place. It's unique decor was something I wouldn't expect from a pizza place/restaurant. It reminded me of an art gallery I'd find in Chelsea. The pasta was excellent. I tried this pasta genovese, it was out of this world. I also ordered a pizza to start because there was no way I'd leave without trying one. I ordered their montonara, a fried pizza and it was amazing. I was expecting something greasy, but it was not at all. It was actually light and very tasty. We had a bottle of Grangnano wine with our food and this sparkling red went great with our meal. The service was excellent and helpful. Hands down the best pizza I have had outside of Naples - probably because they brought Naples to New York. It seemed like everyone was Italian even our cute little server. I was here with a group of colleagues on Friday night and we were promptly seated at the time of our reservation at a high table on the top floor. The place was packed and a bit loud but the energy was amazing. The service was not the quickest but when we got our food it was very much worth the wait. Everything was really authentic and fresh. The frittura all' italiana and the pizzas were absolutely amazing. This place it is an authentic italian cuisine...what a gem! Always busy, usually you have to wait a bit but it is worth it! Last night there was candle light and it felt very warm. The waiter was very nice and attentive despite an enormous almost frenetic activity level. The main dish was home made pasta with seafood, it was the best pasta that i have eaten! Than i had grilled octopus with mashed potatoes and cherry tomatoes, delicious. For desert i had tortino di mele, a warm apple tart topped with apple sauce and gelato. I often travel from Milan to New York and I've tried dozens of Italian restaurants. It had never happened to find a cook who respect the true italian traditions with so much attention and propose mouth-watering Italian dishes prepared to perfection .... not to mention the pizza Pizzarte, the same that is found only in Naples and that it is impossible to find in Milan! Had a bad experience, I ordered 2 gluten free pizzas. I did not noticed that one was regular until it' was to late. Both orders were with mozzarella, basil, and prosciutto. I called and let them know about the error. I send pictures and the one in charge accused me of taking off the cheese and basil. I wanted for them to admit the error. I will never compromise my integrity for anything, nevertheless a pizza. I wanted for them to acknowledge the error and move on. Instead, decided to accuse me. The pizza at this place is a little pricey considering I can get a better (and bigger) pizza elsewhere for less. Then again, it's Midtown. Anyhow, the pizza was still very good and the atmosphere was rather nice with candle lit tables and edgy-ish design. The only thing which is good there is pizza, the food is non consistent - I had the absolute worst food there, and some descent one. When you call for delivery no one answers, and when you try to call main number they say - it's not our problem that you can't reach anyone. The only way to deal with them is to go in and have only pizza, nothing else - then it's ok. I really dig the space. It's nice and airy and modern in a 1950s Italian sense of modern. The pizza itself is pretty good, and definitely hits the right spot when I have a wood burning/Neapolitan pizza craving and I'm in midtown. Walking in search of a good Italian restaurant, I found a nice place Pizzarte. I really had a great experience. Warm and friendly ambience, all the staff spoke Italian. . Our food was divine, the appetizer eggplant funghetto and octopus carpaccio was just right, we share a homemade ravioli and mix grill fish and a salad.....a fabulous bottle of white wine fiano di avellino . I felt back on the Amalfi cost. I will definitely be back. read more

Definitely the most authentic pizza and original restaurant in midtown. Their menu is a bit innovative without eccentricity making it appealing to both the most simple and sophisticated palate. There is a good share on attention to taste and creativity. I would imagine this place being full and with a line outside, but I always manage to gat a table and my wait is acceptable (food is worth the wait anyway). Prices are fair. read more

On a really rainy day in New York we found PizzArte for lunch after visiting Moma and had a great meal. The minestrone was fresh and filled with veges. The arugula salad was perfectly balanced and dressed and the pizza was superb. I eat at Pizzarte at least 3 times a week. NYC's best pizza for sure. Atmosphere, enhanced by the art pieces, and service are outstanding. I'm moving back to Milan in a few months and it sounds silly, but I'm afraid such a good pizza will not be easy to find even in my/pizza home country. The rest of the menu is also great, variety is good and the wine and alxohol selection one of the greatest. read more

I recently tried a new pizza place that came highly recommended, but I found the experience to be pretty average. The crust was neither crispy nor chewy. The sauce was bland with no hint of the rich tomato flavor or aromatic herbs that make a great pizza base. Toppings were sparse. Overall, the pizza was edible but unremarkable, and I wouldn't go out of my way to order from this place again. read more

The table we were out at was very small, so the pizza sat above the table. The pizza was fine, but nothing like I remembered. The second my friend finished eating the waitress scooped in and took her plate. The second I put the last slice on my place, she grabbed the rack. Every time we finished or nearly finished something, she was there to take it away. We didn't order dessert. The check came, we paid and left. No thank yous. Good byes. Anything. My friend who had never eaten there said that was such an odd experience. And indeed it was. The food wasn't memorable enough for me to return.
