I took my small dog in the weekend before Thanksgiving thinking a "Salon" experience might be a treat. He is a terrier mix with scruffy hair. We appreciated them fitting us in with short notice. Once we arrived the owner/front desk person said his hair wouldn't look good cut short. We politely said we wanted to try a short cut and if it didn't look good we'd take responsibility. We also had a shampoo from his vet that we requested he use. He wasn't happy saying his shampoo was better than all others. I explained I love John Paul products but we needed to use this shampoo. He reluctantly agreed but said they'd need to charge a fee for using our shampoo. Alrighty. They were very busy and his 2 hour appt turned to 4 hours. Once again, I was ok as I knew they were busy. When we went to pick him up he looked great. We loved his haircut. The thing we didn't like was the attitude. The first word from the owners mouth was "your dog is very difficult". Then he continued with telling us how we are lucky he looked so good because he moved too much and without his groomers expertise he'd look horrible. He went on and on as he's charging me another extra fee for my 11 pound dog being so "difficult" and said "yeah these rescues don't get socialized right and it makes them be too difficult to work with". My dog is shy but calm and non aggressive. He is quiet and trained. His previous groomers have never said he's difficult. In fact he was groomed again yesterday at petsmart and his groomer said he stands like a show dog and is very sweet. His comment card literally said he was "perfect". My experience with John Paul (owner/manager)left me feeling shamed and left my dog with three razor burns on his tummy. In addition all his extra fees made it over $20 more than I've ever paid. Just went here for the first time to take my Neblung cat to get his first bath and get his nails trimmed. I actually completely missed my first appointment and they didn't even charge me for a no show when I came back. I was very particular about not wanting anything cut off my cat unless it was absolutely necessary and both the groomer and receptionist were very clearly actively listening to me. The guy at the front desk (I can't remember his name ) was super nice and did an incredible job of explaining their process to me. I really appreciate that they try and get the cats in early in the morning before the dogs started showing up as a way to avoid stressing out the kitties. After reading some of the other reviews here I noticed a lot of complaints about the 'owner' and I just have to say if the gentleman I interacted with today is the same person, those people are completely up their own butts. My entire interaction today made me feel like the people hear do care about the animal coming into their salon. I'm very happy with my service my cat looks incredible! Pricey, but worth every penny! They did a great job and you can tell the staff really care about their furry guests. When I dropped off my big golden they indicated they were having issues with their water system at the time and were waiting for the service tech but wouldn't start our service unless the water was the right temp- which I appreciated. They weren't trying to turn-and-burn the appointments. Lots of questions were asked to understand what services we actually needed. They take as long as needed with each pet, if the pet gets stressed they stop and give the pet time to go at their own pace. High end equipment to ensure the best service and safety for guest and staff. This is important to me as a friend's dog had an accident falling from a grooming table at a big-chain pet store and now their dog walks with a perminent "hop"/limp to keep weight off that leg. High quality products and beautiful salon. - open door policy and they allow pet parents to view services being given, they have nothing to hide. :). First time customer for this pet salon PJ Noah Lake Forest, CA. This review does not reflect the great job the groomer did, very happy with my baby's haircut. This review is strictly based on the experience I had with the owner/manager of the place. First impression, I felt that he was not friendly and has no clue on how to check the pooch in. Gave us some forms to fill out. We told him that our little dog can get agitated with the noise of the dryer and can perhaps be difficult. He says he understands and will see if they can groom her or not. We left half expecting we will get a call to pick her up as she is not manageable. This man called us at the expected time and said our dog is ready to go home. I showed up 10 minutes after his call. Again, he was not friendly, no progress report, no small talk - nothing. Okay, I get it, people are on the edge nowadays. We went right down to business - payment. He said your charge today is $75, less 10% being first time customer, and we are charging you extra $15 because your pooch has a lot of mats under her belly. I said you should have examined her before you took her in and lay out all the extra charges and I don't think her mats are bad and besides you are shaving her. He started to curtly and almost agitated way give me 4 extra reasons why he has to charge extra $15, he says the dog was difficult, she didn't want her nails done, she is shedding and they had to take longer. I in a very soft voice told him I don't think I should be charged as we never agreed in the first place. He said he will put the $15 in our account, you will not be allowed to bring you dog here again until you pay. Guess what - my balance is ZERO and you will never see me again even if you are the last pet salon in Lake Forest open. Don't need to be treated this way. I used to come here then the new owner came and he sucks. He yells at customers. I took my dog in and they took about four to five hours to groom him and my other one. I was told 2 hours. He has a medical issue which is why he cannot stand for long When I complained this new owner yelled at me and said that if I complain online I can never take my dogs back there. He is such a fool. I have been a VIP member at this salon for almost 2 years. The staff is friendly and caring. I have a very elderly dog, and another with health issues, so I tend to be over protective and worry about them when I have any type of services for them. They love coming here. They actually prance in the door. I feel so safe with leaving them here for their grooming, that I actually "forget" to worry and enjoy some shopping, knowing they are fine. Donald P. You tried to put a good spin on my review but never addressed the main problem! There is a very rude man with a cocksure, arrogant attitude who claims to be the owner, working with customers that call and enter the business. I have always been happy with the otI had been taking my male Maltese (Holmes) to the Crown Valley location and was always happy with both their service and with each employee who had been working on my dog. Everything was fine until one day when I came in with my dog for grooming. I met up with the owner (Saeed) at the front desk and hee was very rude and did not talk well to the clients who were there and had a lot to say about those who had just walked out of the location. When he finally met with me at the front desk and I was checking in my dog for his appointment, he still had a surly attitude. Even after I mentioned that I had been coming to this location for a long time, he had a chip on his shoulder and was still rude with me. This upset my daughter so much that she would not drop or pick up my dog for fear of having to meet up with him again. When I again met up with him a few months later, his disrespect for clients had not changed and I felt that I needed to stop going there. He was very rude to me again. I then began to take my dog to the Lake Forest location where I found out that Donna, my dog's groomer was now working. She had always done such a fine job on my Holmes that I was happy to stay with John Paul's as long as I did not need to mix up with that other owner from the Crown Valley location. To my surprise, when I called Lake Forest last month to make an appointment with Donna the same rude owner was there and remembered me. Again he was very rude and said, "I remember you, and didn't you come to the other location?" He put me on hold for a long time and then found reason not to make an appointment for me with Donna and said to call back. It was then that I felt that this was not somewhere that I wanted to do business with. There are other grooming businesses that can do the same job and not be rude to me when I call or come in to pay money for a service to keep their business going. With the type of cocky attitude that he shows to his customers,this man should not mix with the public and has no business being at the front desk or on the telephone. her employees and the services given to my Holmes but this insulting man is not someone I care to do business with and the reason for my not returning. Many others I know have also said the same thing about him too and this will hurt your business. Adding your two cents with kind words about bad reviews does not make up for the crass treatment given by the owner. Oh ya by the way, because of my little dogs heart problem I would bath/brush him myself . So when I would bring him in the service would only be for a clip which took less than 30 minutes. I had just moved from Newport Beach to lake forest and was looking for a groomer that is close to where I live. When I first entered the salon a very pleasant young woman, Linda, welcomed me and presented me all the different options that would fit my dog's needs. My little dog is a senior shihtzu that is pretty healthy for his age, he is 15 years old. However, the whole experience of grooming can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for him and if too much water goes close to his nose he stops breathing and start becoming weak and limp. For this reason and because he is a brachycephalic I requested that he doesn't go in the blowing cage as these short nosed dogs are at higher risks for respiratory failure. Linda who was very friendly and seemed very professional agreed that they would hand dry him so i felt safe to bring my dog here and I opted for what they call the VIP package, a $120 monthly deal that includes 4 baths and a haircut with nails, anal gland and teeth care. What I thought was pretty attractive at first unfortunately didn't measure up to standards. Linda, groomed my dog on his first appointment, she did an excellent job so I requested her on the second appointment. The owner, Sayeed, of the place that I had never met before told me things don't work this way here the same way when you go to del taco you do not ask for the person from last time to make you your taco. What a stupid comment I thought!!! We are talking about a client who is a living, breathing animal not a meat product. Then he added who do you think your dog is? Why would he deserve the best? Well, because I pay for a service therefore I do expect the best. This man really caught me of guard with his nonprofessional and rude comments. This only should have been enough to tell me that this place was after all not the right one for me and my dog but I did come back and accepted his policy because coming here was very convenient with my working schedule, where I live and the VIP program... This man said that all the info about my dog's needs were in the system so whoever grooms my dog would just follow through however it didn't seem like it as several groomers worked on my dog as if he was a Guinea pig in a grooming school, each with different style and expertise. Sometimes my dog would come up ok and other times horrible. Sometimes they would not even wash his face, he would still have mats and dried food in his mustache. His nails that were supposed to be clipped at least every month were neglected and left till they easily reached over an inch. When mentioning it I was just answered that my dog didn't like having his paws touched I did not think it was a valuable answer for paying $120 per month. Other times my dog would still be all wet and not even brushed., this is just unspeakable!!! Then I found out that they most of the time did put my dog in the cage drying. I told him again that I didn't want my dog to be put in this cage drying but he kept arguing with me in a very disrespectful manner. He kind of made me understand that hand drying doesn't make up for profits as his employees could be working on another dog instead. Too bad!!! Apparently this man is not concerned about the safety and quality of the dog's experience. It is all about business profit. Each dog is unique and requires different needs if you can not go the little extra step to make your client's experience a good one then find a different kind of business. He then started switching my appointment days around but again I accommodated. In several occasions he even cancelled my weekly appointments without calling. I would show up and in a sarcastic way he would tell me "I don't know why I called everyone except you again" This man is arrogant and very disrespectful to women. He doesn't let you talk and either talk louder over you or just disappear to not hear you. He has difficulty accepting that in America women have equal rights to men, they are not submissive and they have total freedom of speech here. And the list goes on.... after a year of tension, altercation and dismissing my requests for the well-being of my dog I finally took the decision to not do business with this individual anymore. I asked for the refund of the last month I had just paid for but was denied. He told me I had 2 more visits when I actually had paid for 4. So immoral but at this point it doesn't even matter anymore. I wanted to specify that most of all his employees are very nice and friendly some with great experience others with much less but at least they care for your pet's needs and they listen to your requests when this man doesn't interfere with the conversation and shut you off. This man, with his disrespectful attitude and unprofessional attributes is the only reason I do not recommend this place. This is a great groomer! Our personal dogs don't need groomed, but we took a foster dog there and they did wonders with him. The foster had previously bit two different groomers so we were worried when it came to trying again. The groomers took their time with him and made him feel comfortable and they had zero issues. The dog came out looking great. The customer service was also fantastic. They had to charge me less than quoted since the foster behaves so well, so that was a pleasant surprise. I also like the fact that this location will work with shelters and rescues to help pups get their spa day without breaking the bank on those organizations that are speaking for the speechless. Worst service I've gotten for my pup. Worst service I've gotten period. The so called owner/manager was extremely rude. Customer service was awful. Charged me extra for not being able to do their jobs. My dog was a pup. So obviously it will be a challenge. Practically blamed me for my dog's temperament. When I took my dog for his first groom(at a different place) the people were even apologetic for not being able to complete the job and didn't even charge me for it. This guy was just awful. The groomer was patient and kind. The owner was nowhere near. The only reason why i took my pup here was bcoz it was a lot closer. I wish I would've just done the drive. read more

I always take my dogs here, and they love to go! Good haircuts, fair price, multi pet discount. Groomers are warm and careful with each dog. Owner is on site for any issues and is super helpful. I can pretty much always get my dogs in when I want. Great shampoo and conditioning products too! I used to use Petsmart, but I have watched their groomers allow dogs to fall off the tables and be super rough with them. By the time I got done with all the stupid "add-on" charges at Petsmart, I have paid the same or less than I would here. Highly recommend! read more

I want to first state that this review and rating is in no way a reflection on the performance of the groomers - the girls here are amazing and kind and so willing to work with customers. But the quality service is shattered by the attitude and behavior of the very abrasive owner/manager. I had made an appointment for the morning, with the mini makeover (with added styling) with which a 2-3 hour appointment turned into a 6 hour endeavor. Granted, I was told that it could take some more time due to it being Saturday. Before the cut and after all the fixings of the mini makeover were applied to my dog, the groomer contacted me to let me know about a matting issue and that she would need to do a closer cut. I asked if I could call her back, and she agreed. When I tried to call her back, the automated system wouldn't let me reach the location. I decided to go down there and give her an answer. When I arrived, the owner met with me, and I explained I was there to answer a question and I couldn't reach through the phone. He proceeded to call his own store with an attitude as if to show me the phone worked, and I felt as if I was being treated like I was dumb about it. Eventually we got on topic about my dog, and he spoke to me abruptly about the situation as if trying to diffuse an argument with an angry customer. I was very calm, and in no way did I approach the situation angrily and agreed with the reasons the groomer had to change the cut. He then began telling me (seemingly frustrated), "Your dog should have been done an hour, an hour and a half ago." Eventually the owner let me see the groomer, and she was super kind and professional, able to speak to me and show me what was going on and I was thankful and appreciative of her time and trusted her with the decision she thought was best and left her to her work. When I came back to pick up my dog, the owner went on a long-winded scolding session with me about him. It involved him lecturing me as if he was my father speaking to his renegade teenage daughter. It was very demeaning, and I was appalled that he felt comfortable enough to talk to me that way. Throughout this several minutes of his argumentative behavior, I simply nodded and let him on his vent about me and my capabilities as a pet owner, trying to be non combative. However, when I finally asked for advice on the matter he brought up as to better help my dog, he told me, "I don't know, they're the ones that wash the dogs." And motioned to the groomers in the back. I asked him if I could speak to the groomer who worked on him as she had information about shampoos and a proper washing method for me. His response was, "She's working on another dog, and your dog has already taken up too much of her time already." He also went on to tell me that my dog cost him over $140 of extra time, and because of that the charge of $85 was bumped to $100. I paid it without question, because in the end it was the groomer who did the amazing work on my dog and did a beautiful job. I really appreciate her help through all this, and her approach with me was incredibly professional, so I was willing to spend the money for her sake and her work. What I did wonder though, was if my dog appeared to be such a nuisance for the groomer given the amount of time it took (according to the owner), how come nothing was said to me? I feel that if my dog was causing a scheduling conflict, it isn't incorrect to state to the client that their dog is more than they can manage and politely figure out a solution with that client. For the owner to come to me and state in a frustrated tone that my dog made him lose $140 due to extra time spent on him seems to be a frustration with his own decision; he decided to continue work on my dog, and I had no idea about this issue until I was there ready to pick him up. I felt his drive for bringing that up to me at all was to make me feel guilty or ashamed. I have my own business, I'm very much aware of the frustration that comes from losing money, but I'm also aware that most of the time those situations are on me because of my own decisions and I have to eat the loss, and NOT discuss with the client about it. I'm mostly shocked at the combativeness and rudeness of the owner, and the choice of approach he has toward his customers. For both instances I had spoken to him, he was unkind and sour. His attitude and demeanor make him completely unprofessional and he severely weakens the integrity of this salon. It's a shame he has to make himself the store front, because he can be pretty distasteful to customers. To have such a person present themselves to the customer as soon as they walk through the door is certainly hurtful to a business. I wish the owner luck that he can find a MUCH better way to interact with his clients in the future. I will be seeking out a new salon, solely on the fact that I don't want to speak to this owner again and would like to avoid being treated like this again. read more

I'm not just writing this 5 star review because our dog is now their profile picture (ok that MIGHT have gotten my attention). The long and short of it is that these guys do a great job, they genuinely seem to care about the dogs they service (they take the time to learn their names, they have fun with them, they don't try to rush you in and out), and this is the only groomer we've ever taken the pups to where they actually enjoy the experience. You know how most dogs have that look of terror in their eyes when you take them to the Vet/Groomer? Yeah, not here. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Called again at 10:10 AM to try my luck and went to VM. 12:40 pm now and no return call. Not a good first impression... (1 star) 1:35 PM got a call back. They are closed on Easter Sunday. Was offered for a service tomorrow. Understandable, but the VM or website should mention the company holidays regardless of the recording/site being company-wide. I have been taking my dogs to John Paul for about two years now. I have three dogs who all require regular grooming. They always have flexible scheduling and also give a discount for multiple pets. The gentleman at the front desk always greets my dogs and I with a smile. He is very friendly and really seems to care about the dogs. The groomers know my dogs by name and always do an excellent job with their grooms. The dogs always come out looking great. I have tried other grooming salons in the past and none come close to the experience of John Paul. I can't imagine going anywhere else for grooming. My dogs love going to JPPS! read more

I have been going to the Lake Forest location since the day they opened, every 3 to 4 weeks and was beyond happy with their service. My little doggie was in love with Brian and his staff and couldn't wait to get in the door. Now Brian and his wonderful, loving staff of groomers are gone. the new man in charge was not gentle with my baby, he was very abrupt and upset when she tinkled because he scared her. The new guys staff of groomers are subpar. my doggie didn't smell or feel like she usually did and her ears were still dirty. I WILL NEVER BRING MY DOG OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN! I have been using this groomer for four years. They usually do an adequate job. However after picking up our Westie this last time we noticed a very bloodshot left eye. We took him to the vet who diagnosed him with trauma caused by a too tight chain restraint. Needles to say I will never use this groomer again. read more

I took my West Highland in for a grooming. You better be referred by Westminster or this guy is so above you. I was humiliated charged for an out of control dog (2yrs old) I paid $80 my dog weighs 12 pounds. This guy needs to move his place to Beverly Hills where there high class dogs and high class people. Rude, belittling, so above you speaks to you like your ghetto. I asked for a 1/4 in cut got more like 1 inch, nails barely cut. I usually go to Pet Co where I'm and my dog treaded like we are high class even though we are not. I was never told my dog was OUT OF CONTROL, bad behavior. Never had a problem at Pet Co So everyone try Pet Co where your are treated like you should be treated. This guy needs a reality check. YOU are not high class in any sense of the word. We started going to this salon after I had horrible experiences at Petsmart and another salon. As a first time dog owner, it was very distressing. My friend recommended this salon and I will say they cut his hair perfectly. They keep excellent notes and refer to them every time. Our dog was itching and they used and have continued with the tear-less shampoo which works great. Takes minimal upkeep between haircuts because his hair is so well dried and cut. I also appreciate the dryers they use which are fairly quiet so it's a smaller atmosphere and quieter than Petsmart. Thank you! read more

My long haired Collie, Larry, has never looked so good. I brought him to John Paul Pet Salon in average shape. His coat was dry and a little matted. I got the oatmeal wash and blow out with the super shed treatment. The products they used left his coat silky smooth and you could run a comb through it when they were done. He looks perfect. Considering they spent 4hrs on Larry the price was very reasonable. read more

I took my sister's two aussies here for grooming and came out looking absolutely gorgeous. I also appreciate the owner (I think he was the owner) taking extra time and caution with the older aussie who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He made sure he could rest and not stand the entire time and helped him get up on the table by handling him properly, special thanks to him for that. Since i have been going there, its always a messed up appointment, a groomer that does cats is not here, or you book the appointment with a groomer personally and they are at the other store.
