I came here for Wednesday lunch last week on December 14, 2022. It is quiet and nice, right at the heart of East Village. We were seated near the window, where we got some sunlight. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving us a rundown of the menu and some good recommendations. Both Smoked Huitlacoche Croquetas and Wild Mushroom Carnitas were great. It was my first time trying non-meat croquettes that's made of other than potatoes, and I was not disappointed! I have never had Huitlacoche before, but as part of the inner filling of the croquettes, it tasted similar to mushroom. I loved the earthy and smokey flavor and crispy texture. Salted avocados on the side with salad were also a great addition to the dish, where the croquettes could feel a little heavy. Mushrooms tacos were also amazing. Salsa and shaved radish were harmonious with the chewy mushrooms, and the little bit sourness made it more refreshing. My latest Valentine's Day visit to Bar Verde was perhaps my third or fourth time to stop in. The food is always phenomenal and fresh. Service? Friendly and casual, yet reliably efficient. My boo and I shared the empanadas to start. I was really blown away by the filling of mushrooms with three (it think, or was it two?) unbelievably creamy vegan cheeses and pico de gallo. So good. I had the Spicy Cauliflower Enchiladas, which were truly delicious and served with a bowl of rice and beans. The sauce was perfectly tangy and the cauliflower was tender with still a bit of a bite. (ugh my photo of these came out terribly. trust me: they were magnificently plated!) The real star, though, was my BFs California burrito with mushroom carnitas. The burrito was gigantic and topped with an unbelievable mole sauce. For dessert, we shared the flan with maple syrup caramel. Great texture and just the right amount of sweetness. Never a bad meal at Bar Verde, and the atmosphere was friendly and lively - yet still chill enough that it was easy to have a conversation at our table. I look forward to my next visit! read more

Not your typical brunch spot but man does this place deliver. The food was unbeaten. The menu is almost all vegan and gluten free. They offered bottles mimosas and margs for a decent price. The staff was very accommodating and kind, making us feel right at home. The ambiance was cute and quaint. I'm always looking for a good Vegan spot, and this is definitely one of them!! The butternut squash cheese sauce was delicious and I could eat it with a spoon :p Pictured are the nachos. They were really tasty and were super loaded. I also got the cauliflower enchiladas. The green sauce was REALLY good, but the cauliflower wasn't overly flavorful. Our server was really nice as well. The food is really pretty here. They go all out on ensuring they are dishing delicious looking plates. Unfortunately, the taste fell short for me. I didn't think my food was tasty AT ALL; from the guacamole to the mole dish I tried, everything tasted odd and out of balance. Also, the mocktail margarita was just a SUPER SWEET lime-ish tasting juice. Their mocktails need to be workshopped a little more. I didn't try everything on the menu so maybe I need to try more things? The prices are too hefty for me to return and experiment with their other options. I went with a couple friends on a weeknight. It was pretty empty but we had a reservation. The inside is cute! The food, though, was a little underwhelming. The best part was the nachos, which were crunchy and delicious and the saving grace. They even put the cashew queso on the side as one friend was allergic to nuts. Walked past this place so, so many times even before the pandemic as they've always offered outdoor dining, and the vibe always appeared to be more on the hip and chill side. Finally decided to come here for dinner and realized that while it's still hip and chill, the beautiful food presentation and professional service added a layer of complexity and elegance. We started with the nachos, which I highly recommend - the vegan cheese was really good for what it was (not), and then shared the mushroom quesadilla and cauliflower enchiladas. If you're a fervent mushroom lover like me, you won't regret getting the quesadilla, which really brought out the umami flavor of the Cremini mushrooms. The cauliflower enchiladas, however, claimed to be spicy, but I found it not spicy at all and even a tad under seasoned overall. The cheesecake was sweet, sour, tarty, nutty, and beautiful. Presentation-wise, everything was A+. The only other vegan Mexican place I've been to is Jajaja in the West Village, which in comparison is more casual, flavorful, and modest in term of price. Wow visiting my friend in New York I of course wanted to try all the amazing vegan restaurants. I suggested this went to my friend and even though she wasn't vegan she has been here before and was excited to come again. We went on a Friday night and for two people were able to get seated right away it was probably 630 or 7 PM. They have a lot of great outdoor seating and they have strung up someway it was really creates a great atmosphere. I could not resist getting the nachos after I looked up the picture of them online and they did not disappoint they were so delicious. I ordered the Spicy Cauliflower Enchiladas and they were amazing! Super filling great flavor although not too spicy. My friend got a bowl it junk the one with jack fruit and loved it. Personally I'm not a big fan of jackfruit and try it if he is but if you like jackfruit she loved it. we both got margaritas which were delicious. As with its sister Italian restaurant next door, I was really impressed with Bar Verde. I think they have perfected the art of making you vegan food that doesn't make you think or miss meat for a hot second. I'm pretty carnivorous and truly appreciate the selection. I also loved that when conjuring up a pitcher of sangria they didn't over index on any sweetener and let the fruits naturally carry the drink. The only downside is that because I suppose it's a vibe-y location they felt compelled to blast music progressively. My ear drums were shot and I would not recommend this for catching up with friends, perhaps for a date you don't really want to attend or doesn't require much communication -- at least you'll still be satiated read more

I'm grateful that restaurants like Bar Verde exist so that my friends who are gluten free and /or vegan and I can share everything that we order ! The food was delicious and filling. I left feeling satisfied. The quesadillas were amazing, served with cremini mushrooms with caramelized onions, epazote, turmeric cheddar cashew, pico de gallo and salsa verde. Definitely order extra salsa verde on the side if you can, it was incredibly flavorful and refreshing. I wanted to add it to everything I ordered! The waitstaff was fun, attentive and patient. Incredible food, vibe and ambiance (fantastic music), service, and decor. Love that there is both indoor and outdoor dining options. We arrived a bit early and they sat us easily. The drinks were gorgeous and the food came pretty quickly since it was right before a rush. The tlayuda mixta and the flautas were amazing - so fresh, flavorful, and colorful. Vegan nachos can be hit or miss, often depending on the cheese substitute, but they were definitely a hit here! WOW! I am usually not a fan of vegan food, but this place was fabulous. I came here for brunch with some of my friends, and we all opted for the bottomless option. 3 of us ordered the mimosa bottomless, and 2 of us ordered the margarita bottomless. They basically bring you glasses and a carafe of whatever drink you had ordered. Food-wise, we ordered the cauliflower al pastor tacos, the breakfast bowl, and the huevos rancheros. I only tried the breakfast bowl, but it had delicious flavors. I enjoyed the vegan eggs a lot more than I thought I would because they were seasoned so well. The jackfruit had the consistency of pork and had a great sauce over it. It was super cohesive and adding some of their house hot sauce really amped up the flavor. Every so often I need a reset with a fully plant-based meal, and if it has interesting flavors, that's just a bonus. Bar Verde served its purpose here well, with carnitas-inspired mushroom tacos, soft-shelled as they should be, really umami, with some random pineapples that didn't really set off the mushrooms as they would, say, al pastor, but were appreciated anyway for their freshness, along with the shaved radish. AMAZING spot! Came here for a bday dinner recently. We got a few pitchers of margaritas for the table, tried mango and regular. Margs we're excellent - strong and smooth. Everything is vegan, food felt very clean and flavorful. I got the mushroom carnitas tacos for dinner, we also got some chips and guac for table. We showed up 30 minutes late with a group of 4 reservation that they accommodated for 5 people. We had called 10 minutes before the reservation to say that we'd be late and with an extra person and they were very good about accommodating. Service was excellent. Food ordered was delicious, with a lot of similar ingredients in each dish. My friend at the table had an airborne nut allergy and they were willing to remove all nut ingredients from the menu. (She did not have any allergic reaction which means they were attentive to the matter) atmosphere was lively and private, with enough music to add to the experience without hindering the ability to speak. Drinks were delicious with a good amount of alcohol. I would definitely recommend if you want to eat vegan. read more

Bar Verde NY MN NoHo 2021 September Five Stars This place has been the best plant based Mexican restaurant in the city. We made a reservation for 845pm on Open Table and we were promptly seated outside. First, we had the California Burrito and Blue Corn Tostada. The burrito was delicious but didn't have the trio of ingredients of classic Californian Burrito (Carne Asada, Guacamole, and French Fries). The tostada was crispy, creamy, and tasty AF but the avocado was not ripe. Second Course was Quinoa and Potato tacos; and Make-your-own-taco Jack Fruit Bowl with Cashew Queso. The tacos were packed with flavor and had a nice "meaty" texture. The bowl had everything you want in a meal: Rice, Bean, Corn, Brussels Sprouts, Bell Pepper, Salsa, Lettuce. This bowl was big and filling. Last we had Gluten Free Churros! They were slightly over-fried but the flavor was great and chocolate sauce was superb. Good service. Busy Restaurant. Went to Bar Verde for my birthday lunch last week and had a great experience. It was a weekday, so we were the only ones in the restaurant. Due to this, the service was great. We got the Patatas Fritas, Empanadas, and Spicy Cauliflower Enchiladas; every single item was delicious. We got basil lemonades too which were gigantic and refreshing. Bar Verde is an interesting restaurant to me because, as a vegetarian, I do value the cheese aspects to my meals especially considering how much mexican food I get. You can see from the images that the presentation is great, and I'd say the ingredients are fresh - I think there's just something a little left to be desired for taste. Also portions are small and service is slow but the ambience sitting on the patio is great - with some drinks it's easy to get distracted. Wouldn't go again but worth a try for vegans and non vegans alike, no regrets. read more

I like to explore vegan restaurants in Manhattan and this one was recommended by a friend. I seated outside. The outdoor seating is located on the second avenue. The avenue is loud, cars horns on you, it is just not a pleasant area to enjoy any kind of food or drink. I had the California burrito, empanadas and a spicy margarita. The California burrito was ok, it is big enough but lacks of flavor, they need to add some spices to it. Empanadas and the spicy margarita were fantastic. One word, NACHOS!!!!!! I came across this restaurant back when I was vegan for a few years. It is a vegan twist on Mexican Cuisine. I absolutely love the look of this little restaurant and the food that I've had the chance to try! Even now, I am no longer a vegan and still visit every so often for their great selections! But I started with saying nachos and now I have to explain. These nachos are loaded and everything on them make you want to keep grabbing until it's gone! The cashew cheese sauce, the beans, the vegan crema, guacamole, even the jalapeños, everything is perfect! I have actually ordered just the nachos to go, because they are that great! The food here is hands-down the most mouth-watering Mexican food in the city. TBH it's some of the best plant-based food I've had in a very long time. They also have a pretty lengthy list of organic and sustainable tequila and mezcal cocktails! I ordered the fajita bowl, a very colorful bowl of butternut queso, fundido, jackfruit, corn, avocado, tomatoes, jalapenos, black beans, red peppers, and chips. I also ordered nachos and empanadas for the table--so, so yummy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and keep all of their windows/doors open, so even if you sit inside, you kind of feel you're sitting outside. The service is excellent. First of all the nacho tower was art. I love how they later on the toppings so that there are some on every chip- not just the top ones! The sauce was heavy on the nutritional yeast if you don't like that kind of "cheese". Margaritas great as well. We were on a time crunch and the servers had no problem getting us in and out in exactly an hour. I do think jajaja slightly edges them out overall though on the vegan Mexican front. read more
