Finding this delicious, fully plant-based Mexican restaurant a 3 minute walk from our hotel was such an exciting way to end the night. It was hard to not order everything on the menu because it all sounded SO good. We started with the raspberry mojito (which was so refreshing!) and guava soda. We then ordered the chips and guac, which is probably meant for a table of 4 but you already know my Mom and I ate it all ourselves. We then split the chorizo tacos made with farro and they were just divine. Such a great combination of flavors and textures and very authentic. We got the flan for dessert which is made with three non-dairy milks and it's honestly so cool to see how chefs can truly make any dish vegan! I know this spot would make any vegans and non-vegans very happy and satisfied. I'll definitely be coming back to try out even more items on the menu! read more

I was looking for a place to have dinner with my mother who has a very strict vegan diet due to health issues and Bar Verde was exactly what we needed. Yes, everything is gluten free and vegan. And wow! The food is amazing and very delicious. We enjoyed the mushroom carnitas, quesadilla and churros, everything was exquisite. I also had the smoked pineapple mezcalito which could've been better, but it was still decent. I have so many friends in the past that had recommended it before. I decided today was the day. Well can I tell you that all three of us were highly disappointed . The food was horrible 100 dollars just for 4 tiny dishes not main courses . The nachos were so not put together it reminded me of Chipotle which I never eat. Aside from the food being horrible the glasses had food stuck on them. Spectacular! New favorite brunch spot. They have a great bottomless brunch option. I got the chorizo Enfrijoladas, it was delicious. Everything was plated so beautiful and was decadent and delicious. I usually don't enjoy vegan cheese, but I loved their cashew based "cheese" The enchilada was great, the servers were very attentive, and the ambiance of the place was very nice, would be perfect for a date night. Great, warm service for outdoor dining. Bar Verde abided by the covid precautions, keeping a safe durán a between tables outdoors. Food came in a timely fashion. It feels refreshing to open a menu and see tons of DIVERSE vegan options. I loved everything I ordered, from the guava margarita, to the enmolada. The mole was fabulous. It tastes good smothered with tortillas and dipped with plaintain chips. I also enjoyed the variety of sauces offered with the fried potatoes. It's nice to have options when one doesn't suffice! My favorite vegan restaurant! My friend and I came here on a cold Thursday night. It was nice and cozy and they had heaters on and they could also adjust the temperature, if needed. For covid precautions- staff were wearing masks, hand sanitizer was available and menus were via a QR code. I wish they had dividers between tables outside because they seemed to only be a couple feet apart. However, when we went we chose a table furthest away from everyone. The drinks were delicious! I got the smoked pineapple mezcalito - I love the combination of pineapple and mezcal! Sweetness of the pineapple and smokiness of mezcal is such a great combo. We started off with the blue corn tostadas (2 per order). It was a loaded tostada and filling, so this could've been an entree. Then we got the spicy cauliflower enchiladas, which was also amazing and filling. There were 3 enchiladas per order. The cauliflower was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The sauce on top was a mild salsa verde sauce. This restaurant did a great job with their portions because everything we ordered was definitely shareable between 2-3 people. Okay, why haven't I come here sooner!? We started with the Heart Of Palm Ceviche and then had the Wild Mushroom Tacos and Flautas. The heart of palm ceviche was a refreshing appetizer. The mushroom tacos were flavorful and I don't even know they just tasted really good haha. But the flautas... wow. I don't know what they used for the dressing for the kale salad served on top of the flautas, but everything just worked. It was crunchy, tangy, sweet, creamy and sooo good. The only thing that could be better, would be that service was really slow and there weren't even that many customers, so I'm not sure why it was so slow. But otherwise the food was delicious. I think I have a new fav vegan Mexican spot in the city! From the food to the service, this place is excellent. With a full vegan menu it was hard to choose what to order! The waiter was great in making a suggestion. It was a cold evening, but if you get a seat under the heaters you should be okay. Loved the Latin music playing and appreciate how hard the limited wait staff tried to tend to everyone in reasonable time. Wow! Amazing plant-based vegan Mexican fare in the East Village. Creative menu which really uses plant food to create delicious and aesthetically pleasing dishes, instead of relying on faux meat substitutes. I highly recommend the nachos. The butternut queso was addictive and I wish there was unlimited sauce! One of the best vegan nachos I've had. I enjoyed the cauliflower tacos on their fresh pressed organic tortillas. The tacos were definitely on the small side. The flautas were delicious- crunchy with a flavorful filling. On the pricey side however. Appetizers are $11-15 and entrees ~$17-20. 2 tacos are $12-14.. yikes!! FYI if you are a party of three they will make an order of 3 tacos for you. The portions aren't huge for the price but honestly the portion sizes are what you should be eating. Not those huge Tex mex portions from chipotle. Unless you're severely starving, an appetizer shared among 2-3 plus an entree each is plenty of food. I docked a star because of the dessert. The tres leche cake was pretty disappointing. After such an amazing savory meal, I was really expecting the dessert to seal the deal. But it was kinda a let down to the experience. The "leche" part just tasted like coconut yogurt that they slopped on top of a vanilla cake and it wasn't creamy like I expected. My friend said she had the churros another time and it wasn't good. So i would say don't get dessert here. Maybe I just picked the wrong one! Service was great and the restaurant itself is lovely. When it's warm out they open their patio for a nice open space concept. Overall I would come back for a splurge meal. What a great chance find. Loved it!!! I was looking for a restaurant for my bday that isn't too heavy on the pocket and at the same time we don't need to compromise on the taste and range of options. Bar verde caught my fancy on Yelp and the reviews helped a lot. It was exactly what I was looking for and more. To start with the place is slightly bigger than what it looks in the pictures but don't go there with more than party of 8. We were 9 of us and it was definitely tight. Even though we made a booking in advance, I'm not sure if they didn't account for it. The cocktails are amazing but what stands out is the food. We were 9 of and we ordered almost everything on the menu right from tacos, nachos, enchiladas, plantains, guac and the list can go on. I can't think of one dish that wasn't finger licking good. To think of it this vegan place used milk substitutes and some of my hard core meat eating friends loved it as well. Compliments to the chef. Would definitely come here again. read more

After enjoying a wonderful lunch a few weeks ago at sister restaurant Double Zero, I decided this time to try Bar Verde, which I had only been to once before, for brunch, about 3 years ago. My friend and I sat outside on this beautiful, slightly cool afternoon, and we ordered nachos (she) and a fajita bowl (me). Too early for alcohol for us today, my friend ordered a coke and I tried the spicy lemonade. The food was wonderful and the portions were huge! The seasoning was perfect (even the jalapeño spiced lemonade was yummy!) and I took half of my lunch home, along with the remaining tortilla, which was delicious. My friend would have liked to have taken home her remaining nachos but we agreed that the simply amazing chips would get way to mushy if she did that. I was glad I got to see the owner, who is charming, to compliment him on his restaurants and to brag to him that my photo of his raspberry cheese cake (next door at Double Zero) is featured here on Yelp, along with my review! I liked this place for an easy night out downtown with the friends. Vegan Mexican food doesn't initially sound like it's a hit for everyone, but the food is done well. Vibe is the best thing about this place, it's classy and casual all at the same time. Service is A++. Drinks are tequila based and definitely hit the spot. All of the food is good, and I'd really try splitting appetizers across the table. We drank a lot and paid about $75 each (tip was included with a party of 5). All of the flavors were Mexican reminiscent, and I didn't really crave meat, they seemed to imitate it well, and provide a guilt free feeling. Only real issue is that there was only one bathroom. Bar verde is a must. Came here after being recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. We started off with a classic spicy marg pitcher which had the perfect amount of tequila and spice. The food was vegan and I almost didn't even notice! And while the sauces were vegan, they completely made the dishes. Nachos and enchiladas were amazing, fajita bowl was good, esquites were nothing special and probably would not get again. For dessert, we got the churros and chocolate. I had dinner here on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of seating that night and we decided to sit indoors to escape the heat. I ordered the empanadas, flan for desert, and the Jalisco razor blade cocktail. The empanadas were delicious and full of flavor! I wasn't crazy about the flan. He took me a week later, and it did not disappoint! I LOVED all the flavors in the mushroom carnitas tacos I ordered, and their house hot sauce was incredible. My boyfriend got the fajita bowl, which used jackfruit as a meat substitute- I had no idea that existed, but it was delicious! As a drawback, the service could definitely be improved. Coming from CA, I have extremely high standards when it comes to Mexican food. I decided to give this place a shot after receiving so many enthusiastic recommendations from my friends. Also even though I'm not vegan, I love and appreciate vegan food, especially for the creativity and effort involved, so I was really intrigued by Bar Verde for its fully vegan menu. Since the weather was lovely outside, we opted for outdoor seating -- the tables and chairs were very clean and they gave 4 of us 2 bottles of hand sanitizer! While we were waiting for our friends to join us, my boyfriend and I ordered some cocktails -- I had the grapefruit Paloma and it was absolutely delicious and refreshing and the quantity was excellent! My boyfriend had a spicy jalapeño mezcal based cocktail which he really enjoyed as well. As there was 4 of us, we ate everything family style and ordered several dishes including the Tlayuda Mixta, Wild Mushroom Carnitas tacos, Jackfruit Pibil tacos, and Spicy Cauliflower Enchiladas. Everything was delicious and flavorful, especially the Tlayuda Mixta and the Spicy Cauliflower Enchiladas. There was such a delectable combination of textures, without anything being too spicy. The reason I gave the review 4/5 stars is because I felt that the tacos could have been more flavorful, perhaps with some salsa or sauces. The texture of the mushroom carnitas could also have preserved he texture of the mushrooms a bit more to leverage the qualities of the mushrooms a bit more. Besides that, the food, cocktails, and the dessert was all incredible! I loved the churros and the rich dipping chocolate! The churros also came with some strawberries and blueberries which we had fun dipping in the chocolate and enjoying as well! I'm always grateful for all-vegan establishments, and Bar Verde is no exception. Note that this review is based on just one visit so far, earlier today: a solid thumbs up. I had the Tacos de Huevos con Salsa Roja. The three tacos were tasty, fresh and nicely plated. This dish plus a margarita, pre-tip $34. The tortillas were supple and earthy, seemingly freshly made. What is described on the menu as "plant based eggs" seemed to be tofu scramble, and was incorporated into the tacos. I happen to really enjoy tofu scramble, so no issue there, but somehow the menu wording "plant based eggs" had me low key expecting a somewhat novel ersatz egg experience lol The sauce on these tacos was pretty spectacular. I can't really describe the flavor, as it subtly blended so well with the entirety of the tacos, but it was spot on in both flavor and texture. The "sausage" was very crumbled and blended in with the other ingredients; this is not a situation where one experiences biting into a sausage-like texture. The dish was served with a cute little side of home fries which were slightly chipotle-smoky. Service was chill and charming. My friend enjoyed a bottomless mimosa deal and recommended it. I loved the strawberry margarita; just the right strength, and bursting with bold berry. I did find myself wishing that we had access to just a dollop of sour cream.
