My husband and I ate breakfast here on Sunday. I had the vegetarian omelet with tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms and cheese and he had the Denver omelet. Both were delicious and it was a huge helping. It was kind of crowded and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, but well worth the wait. This may be my new favorite breakfast place. People very friendly. Seated quickly even though busy on a Sunday about 11am. The veggie omelet with egg whites was best one I've had. Full of vegetables including avocados and added jalapeños. And huge. Husband had eggs benefits also delicious. Hash browns not usual style and not crispy but still very good. Prices very reasonable. This is my favorite breakfast place in the East Bay! Great portions, fresh food and fruit, great coffee at affordable prices. If you're into egg benedicts, you'll love their crab benedict (call to check availability!). Absolutely delicious! Every bite made me want to simultaneously slow down and savor but hurry up and devour it! I had the Dungeness Crab and Avocado Benedict, my husband the Corned Beef Hash and eggs (served only on Thursdays) and we shared a fruit cup. Fresh-squeezed orange juice! I'm newer to the area and was looking for a good brunch place to start the day before moving on to all my errands. This place had decent reviews so I wanted to try it. When I got there the place was packed and they were just seating a couple in front of me. There was one table open and no one else waiting in line. Since I was by myself they didn't want to give me the table that was open even though they had it set up for just two people. I kind of understood but after 10 min of waiting with still no seat for me and no one behind me it didn't make sense not to seat me in the available booth. Eventually, more people were coming in behind me that they were willing to seat right away and I was still waiting for an acceptable table to open up for one person. Although, they came up to me several times saying they will have a table for me in the back I don't think it is acceptable customer service when you have a table open with no one waiting behind me. First of all, If they sat me as soon as I came in I would've known what I wanted to eat and my turn over would've been faster than any couple or 4 people they would've put in that booth. I wasn't there to socialize. I just wanted a good breakfast and to get on with my day. Secondly, if they are worried about making other people wait, they made me wait and wait and wait. Just because I came in by myself today doesn't make me any less valuable of a customer. My money is just as good as anyone's. I also have friends and family that I could be bringing in for future visits or send recommendations to. I had a friend that wanted me to go to brunch with her and her family of four but I declined because I wanted an earlier start on my day. She asked me to give her a review on this place so they may come in the future. I told her what happened and now they have no interest in trying the place out. Went there for breakfast. Was crowded and had to wait. After waiting for some time l was finally seated and ordered. Waited for some time again and the food finally arrives, but only half of it. Food was cold and toward the end of the meal the waitress asked, how was it? I told her it was cold and she passively apologized. She didn't even offer to fix it! The café is family run by Asians l guess they haven't adapted the American way of doing biz, the practice of making the customer happy. Great family owned place. I've tried many different things here. I LOVE the crab and avocado Benedict. I promise you won't regret getting it. Also love the country fried steak. This has been a favorite breakfast spot of mine for years. However, Last weekend I ate there, noticing new waitresses, & I ordering my "usual" crab omelet, rye toast, & fruit cup. I asked the waitress how the fruit was today & response was "Nobody has ever complained." I noticed a distinct difference in the quality & ripeness of the fruit. The toast had some odd spread on it that seemed more like a liquid than oil or butter. I couldn't eat the toast. When asked how my meal was as she dropped off the check & sped off,I mentioned good but let the waitress Know what fruit wasn't ripe & she seemed uninterested walking away, even though I was polite. I didn't dare question the toast. I went to the counter to pay & asked if there was new management or ownership & they said yess as of 2 months ago. The owner was nice & polite. Another time I hope to give the owner some helpful feedback, as I'd like to see them succeed. However, I do not think the waitress I had was interested in the truth so I'll go directly to management. On the good side, the waitress was friendly, the prices decent, and the service was relatively quick. Also, they used a lot of real crab in the avocado crab benedict - which was a surprise. However, it doesn't make up for the downsides: 1. Cash Only? Who has cash only? No credit cards when it's a storefront restaurant just says "we don't care about our customers". 2. Hollandaise Sauce from a package. I *know* other yelpers seem to like the sauce here, so I guess I'm picky, but I really expect a place that has a whole lineup of benedicts to make their own decent Hollandaise from scratch - this was the pasty stuff that tastes like flour. 3. The hashbrowns, as mentioned by others, were pretty weak. Not much flavor and no seasoning. 4. Cramped and hot. We were jammed into a table in a corner with no space to breath - they had 2 portable fans swirling the hot air around the place - it was probably 90 degrees inside. I have been here several times with my friends. We love the selection on the menu, there are lots of different items to choose from. I have had the pecan hot cakes and blueberry pancakes. Filled with delicious crunchy pecans or juicy blueberries. Their coffee cake is also delicious, warm and moist with a delicious topping! They are very generous portions with two huge pancakes and a cute small one on top! The service was very good, even though they were busy we were seated quickly. They are very flexible and if you have diet needs they will do their best to fulfill them. It's cozy even though there are alot of seats it didn't feel over crowded. My friend had a sandwich (I think it was the club) it was also quite large with enough to fill her up with some to take home. My chicken fried steak was perfectly prepared but it was swimming in a pool of watery flavorless gravy. The waitress couldn't tell me if that was the way it was normally served, which suggests to me that it is. I do like their hash browns, they were crispy on the outside and cooked well yet soft inside. My wife thought the pancakes were mediocre. My son thought his steak was okay. The main reason for the two stars was that after being seated (after a good delay, no deduction for that) it took in inordinately long time for our food to arrive after placing our order and it didn't come together. My chicken fried steak came ten minutes after the eggs, potatoes and toast. Maybe they were trying to thicken the gravy. The waitress didn't bring a check; I had to go up to the counter to get it and pay, and the cashier (owner?) was in no hurry to take my money. The business is cash only--we were prepared for that, having read the reviews. This business appears to be family-run, which is something I normally like, but in this case, the poor cook (other owner/spouse?) appeared to be overwhelmed by the amount of food she had to prepare in a kitchen area that is way too small for the demand. read more
