Waited forever and the service was horrible and the food was mid. I'm not sure it's worth the hype

On Valentine's Day, my girlfriend and I waited an hour and a half just to be denied a spot because of poor communication from staff. Earlier, I went up to ask how long the wait would be, and the only response I got from the lady with glasses was, "It'd be a wait," with no time estimate, no instructions, and no mention of any cutoff time. Nothing was said about needing to be present by 2:00 or about a "last call" for the waitlist. When I came back at 2:30, I was told, "The last call was at 2, you had to be here," which was the first time that information was ever mentioned. The tone was passive-aggressive and dismissive, which made the situation even more frustrating. Clear communication would've prevented all of this, and it completely ruined what was supposed to be a special day. read more

We ordered The Plow and the breakfast sandwich. The Plow: comes with two silver dollar sized lemon ricotta pancakes, a generous serving of crispy potatoes, eggs, and choice of meat. The pancakes were pretty good, I kind of wished there was one more because they're smaller but I left feeling full and had leftover sides. The potatoes though... I have no idea what they put in them but it's insane they're so good with the caramelized onions. The breakfast sandwich: acme bread bun with eggs and bacon and aioli. (Maybe a bit shorter if you come right when they open at 7-8am.) But PSA: they take names until 2 (they don't close right at 2). Food was so good but probably not worth the insane wait again. Thought the lemon ricotta pancakes were not worth the hype, but loved the french toast (perfectly sweet, not too soggy, and amazing caramelized apples!), potatoes (SO CRISPY), and house made pork sausage (very flavorful, although quite firm in texture -- would have liked it to be more tender). Although service is slow, the workers are all friendly. Liked the bar seating facing the open kitchen; it was fun seeing the chefs cook behind the scenes. Also they have a heated toilet! Big fan. I visited Plow for the first time a couple months ago and was absolutely amazed by the soft scramble I had. Since they often rotate their menu, I had to come here again to test if this place was a one-hit wonder. I'm happy to report that their food hit just as hard this time around. This time around they had the Custard French Toast, which I absolutely HAD to get because I love French toast with strawberries and cream. This dish was so so good. The custard was light and fluffy and the strawberries were fresh. The syrup was a nice addition, allowing me to adjust the level of sweetness. I would 1000% come back for this dish, but since they have a rotating menu it's hard to know when they will have something similar again. I also ordered the soft scramble this time around as I enjoyed it a lot during my previous trip. The key to this dish is pairing the goat cheese with the scrambled eggs. It's pretty unique and quite tasty. I have to say I didn't enjoy it as much as last time since it came with asparagus and beans this time versus spinach last time. But overall it was still a good dish, and they never miss with the potatoes. The main reason I docked a star is because of the long wait time. We had to wait 2+ hours to get a table and they only take walk-ins so you have to come in to put your name down. Maybe incorporating Yelp waitlist or something similar would make the restaurant more accessible, but nevertheless I would still come back. I would definitely choose to sit inside if possible, it's a pretty tight squeeze and you will probably have to sit next to someone you don't know, but it's San Francisco, there's not a lot of space anyways, so I assume you're used to that. Definitely would not recommend to sit outside because you won't eat your food fast enough before you and your food get cold. They do provide blankets, but I enjoy the experience/food that much more when I'm inside. They give you pretty solid portion size for the price, enough so that my significant other I order a plow and a side of either toast or pancakes and it's the perfect amount the food every time. The potatoes were soft on the inside, and crispy on the out with a bunch of fresh herbs. I'm particularly impressed with the scrambled eggs, they were silky, soft and cooked perfectly. The lemon ricotta pancakes were solid, I wish they had more citrus flavor tho. The homemade hot sauce was delicious, it almost reminded me of a red salsa, but it worked well with everything. We both got The Plow and I got the chicken sausage and my boyfriend got the house made pork sausage patties. For the meal, I preferred the sausage patties over the chicken sausage since they had more flavor but just on the dry side. The lemon ricotta pancakes were dense and tasty with a fragrant lemon flavor, but a little small. The scrambled eggs were one of the silkier and fluffier scrambled eggs I've had in a while. The potatoes were seasoned with rosemary which was pretty good, but nothing too special about it. They also gave about a tablespoon of syrup, it's not much but it reduces waste! Overall, the food was decent and tasty, but it was pretty pricey and I wouldn't wait over 30 minutes for it again. Not going to lie, I chose Plow because it is a favorite of a certain famous tiktoker who makes salmon bowls and I wanted to see if she has good taste irl. I'm not big on brunch but it is unfortunately the only way to convince friends to hang out before noon on a weekend. The food looked and smelled really good when we got there so I was willing to wait and went on a walk to a bakery nearby. I love brunch places that make a sweet and savory combo item so I ordered the Plow which comes with: - lemon ricotta pancakes: ricotta makes it very light but didn't affect taste and I don't even like ricotta. I wish they gave you more syrup though, they give you barely a tablespoon on the side. - potatoes: the best part of the meal. I liked the rosemary in there and how crispy the potatoes were, but they needed more seasoning. - pork sausage: house made but it was pretty dry - scrambled eggs: also dry, not light and fluffy, needed salt Also please look at the weather forecast if you're planning on sitting outside. Finally tried Plow for brunch last weekend. I've always walked by the restaurant and seen the long wait, and it was honestly worth it. When my group of 4 came on a Sunday, the wait was around 2 hours (and this is pretty normal for a weekend). If you're willing to wait, there's a couple of coffee shops in the area (I really like Farley's a couple blocks away), and little shops to explore. When we got seated, I ordered The Plow to split with my partner and a couple meat sides. If it's your first time, I think The Plow is a great option because you can try their breakfast sausage, eggs, potatoes, and lemon ricotta pancakes in one dish :) It was a great portion to split with another person too, and you can add some sides if you're hungrier. Plow is a favorite for weekday brunch because the line is shorter than on a weekend. Today we got seated in record time, 10 minutes. The host was so smiley and friendly! Unfortunately after we were seated we sat and sat and sat. Eventually a server appeared to take our order and she was icy, to be generous. I got a coffee, which was poured right away and then sat in the cup and got cold while I had to ask for cream 3 times. Our food came out 30-45 minutes later. It was a glacial pace for a day when they were not all that busy (by Plow standards). Maybe they were understaffed or something happened.
