I had a Mitsubishi heat pump mini-split system installed with 3-heads and it's been great in the summer and I was surprised to experience how great it is in the winter too for heating. Notably I really like and trust the team at Plum. Sam, the owner came and gave me a quote that was more competitive than 4 other companies plus his company is local and he was comfortable working with my city's difficult permitting company. Everything went smoothly with the install and I can say now after 1 summer and 1 winter that I'm really happy. Wonderful experience with Plum HVAC on a heat pump installation! I checked several companies, compared their recommendations, timelines, reputations and prices. Sam, the owner, was very professional and has almost 2 decades of experience in HVAC. When I asked dumb questions, he answered most graciously. And when I noted that some companies we queried said we could get away WITHOUT replacing our original ductwork from 1965, he gave us his honest opinion why that wasn't a good idea. (Hubby remembered later that people who worked in our attic adding insulation told us there were lots of duct leaks.) His workers showed up on time, were super friendly, and they were as quiet as possible except for when there was some required hammering to place the heat pump securely in our attic vs. the old furnace location. (Yay, we get another closet!) Sam also arranged for a licensed provider of asbestos removal to arrive first. That firm was likewise on-time, pleasant and quick. All the work was completed as promised with a half-day for asbestos removal and 3 days for furnace removal/disposal and heat pump installation w/ Mitsubishi system. Sam and Natalie went above and beyond to help me file my HEEHRA application just before the TechClean deadline for NorCal. Natalie proactively reminded me of the deadline, reviewed my application, and pointed out errors, showing their commitment to helping customers save money. Sam was straightforward, responsive, and open to my ideas--like installing the outdoor unit in the side yard instead of the backyard, which he got approved. The installation crew was meticulous, professional, and respectful, wearing N95 masks and protective suits when needed, and cleaning the work areas thoroughly after each day's work. Jake emphasized quality over speed, and I could see they took pride in their work. They even took care to hide electrical wiring behind the pipes, maintaining a clean and aesthetic look. Did I do something wrong? Plum HVAC came over to replace my thermostat and they did a great job. I called them, the communication was great, everything went well. Later on, I wanted to schedule a maintenance on my HVAC units. I tried calling a bunch of times to make an appointment, left messages each time over a course of weeks. I hired Plum HVAC to install a Mitsubishi Multi-Zone Ductless Mini-Split system. The crew came before the scheduled time and even waited in the car for me to give them a green light to start the job because I had requested a specific start time. The crew was super efficient and got to work in different areas of the house. Each day after the job was done, they made sure all areas were fully cleaned up. The job was estimated to be completed in 3 days but the crew finished everything in 2.5 days. I was super impressed at their professionalism and how fast and clean they did the job. I highly recommend Plum HVAC! I reached out to six companies for heat pump HVAC quotes through switchison.org. Sam was the first to respond, and we scheduled a visit the very next day. I immediately felt a rapport with him, and he was super low-pressure. I noticed that he was not taking notes, photos, or measurements when he was surveying the house. He said that he just remembers everything! We discussed both ducted and ductless (6-zone mini-split) systems for our house and he quoted both. But it was pretty clear that the mini-split would be a better choice if we were ok with the aesthetics. Sam came on Friday, and he sent me the quote on Saturday - less than 24 hours later. I had the other companies quote only the mini-split. I don't regret getting the other quotes because I learned something from each of them. But they all came in at higher costs (some more than 2x!), and I still felt like Plum would do the best job. Despite his quote being the lowest, Sam quoted the higher-end "FS" models of the Mitsubishi indoor units, and the others quoted the "GS" models. Sam and Natalie helped me reserve HEEHRA, TECH Clean CA, and SVCE rebates and answered many other questions before the installation. Jake, Ha, Andrew, and Alex did the installation. They were a highly competent, efficient, and courteous team and they completed the job in three days. I wanted someone that did this job of installing an outdoor AC for my rental unit with permit - wanted a quote that took care of all - Permit/HERS testing/ the whole 9 yards. I got a few other quotes that nickeled and dimed me for prepping the system for city inspection as well as HERS testing - which was totally BS BTW. I had told all that the Conduits were brand new and there would be no leaks. Even getting the installation going, I was sent reminders 3 days before to the day before - we were all prepared for the same. I would give 6 stars if I could. I found Plum HVAC from Peninsula Clean Energy's list of approved contractors for HVAC. I replaced my central heating with a heat pump. Sam, the owner, gave me a quote that almost matched two other companies quotes (one being a family member's client so that must have been a close to rock bottom price) but Sam's quote included a better quality Bryant heat pump and a slim line condenser. The first company quoted with a Day and Night and the second company offered a Gree and both would charge additional for a slim line condenser. Sam was always easy to reach if I had questions for my HOA architectural approval, permits from Foster City (the building department is very...particular), or Peninsula Clean Energy loan and rebates. I couldn't be happier with the entire process with Plum, the work, or the interaction with installers Jake and Han who were professional, polite, and very clean.
