Best poke option in Alameda in my opinion! Poke House is a chain and I've gone to their other locations pretty often so I was happy seeing this one open up! Quality is definitely consistent. Portions here are their selling point. It's always SO packed and they're extremely generous with the fish. Normally I get 3 scoops from other poke spots but with Poke House, I can get away with 2. Reason for 4 stars is mainly bc the fish quality is not the most top tier. The tuna can be stringy sometimes and the salmon can be overly fatty. Plenty of seating indoors. Nice and clean. I'm a fan of Poke House and was excited when I found out they were opening one in Alameda, especially since it's close to where I work. I stopped by once right at opening. I waited around for a bit and no one acknowledged me until I finally asked if they had any spicy tuna. They just said no, so I left. Even though that first experience was pretty disappointing, I decided to give them another try. This time they did have spicy tuna, but it wasn't what I expected. Instead of the typical minced spicy tuna you see at most poke spots, theirs was just big chunks tossed in a watery spicy sauce. It didn't look appetizing at all, so I skipped it and just went with regular ahi tuna. I ordered my usual combo of half zucchini noodles and half mixed greens as the base and went with their house chili sauce mixed with Sriracha mayo. Unfortunately, the quality of the fish here was nowhere near what I've had at other Poke House locations in San Jose and San Mateo. The tuna was stringy and dry, not the soft buttery texture you would expect. Each bite was tough and not enjoyable. I ended up leaving most of the tuna behind and just ate the crab salad and veggies. For $17 before tip, I expected better. Unless things improve, I don't think I'll be back. read more

A young man sweeping the floor welcomed me inside, and offered to answer my questions. I asked him what's the best item on the their menu. He confidently replied....."The House Salmon Bowl." BTW, a Poke Bowl is not sushi. It's a Hawaiian dish. It may have similar ingredients, but the preparation and presentation are different. Poke House offers both raw and cooked dishes. So, I ordered a medium House Salmon Bowl (takeout). Poke House has a assembly line style counter. There were two servers and one cashier. Everyone was super professional and listened carefully to customers. Your order includes a utensils packet with a napkin, chopsticks, and a spoon/fork. The House Salmon Bowl was really good. I asked for sesame oil and pickled ginger. The salmon was fresh, with no fishy smell. The taste was clean. The krab salad, seaweed, green onions, and ginger all came together to make a delicious dish. I took my order to go. The restaurant was a bit crowded as they only have five tables inside. Came on grand opening day! Such a clean place with a nice easy assembly line and friendly workers. We got the small poke bowl and crispy shoyu chicken bowl. Spicy salmon and Spicy tuna over a bed of salad, (you were able to choose from a variety of bases, white rice, brown rice, salad or zucchini noodles) You also got to personalize/pick your toppings along with a mixture of sauces. Seaweed salad was an extra charge but well worth it! Everything was super fresh and delicious. One of the only spots only during labor day weekend, this was a yummy option! The portions were amazing and it was cool that they had hot options too like spam musubi. We ordered the large with five protein options half and half sushi rice and mixed greens. We chose the salmon, yellowtail, and spicy tuna. I was craving seafood (what else is new), so we decided to try out the recently-opened Poke House in South Shore. I ordered a small build-your-own bowl with double Scottish salmon. RB also did a small bowl, with double garlic oyster tuna. A small bowl is $15 and comes with two proteins; avocado is a pricy upcharge of $2.50. They have bottled Coke and Sprite made without corn syrup, which is definitely a plus. If you like sake or beer with your poke - and who doesn't - you're out of luck, no alcohol here. Maybe they're still working on getting a license. Two small bowls with two beverages (Sprite and green tea) came to $48, which seems a bit steep. My bowl was pretty tasty and the fish was fresh. Everything was fresh but the sauces were too heavy and wet. It was a tab but spicy but the flavor was pretty good. The handrolls were a bit of a disappointment. Made to order but too mouth rice to fish ratio and it was pretty bland. Also not crazy about the idea of rolling it my self like unwrapping the onigiri. Poke House is the best new addition to the Alameda food scene! Def the best poke spot in the area! I especially love their spicy miso salmon and Scottish oyster tuna. The fish is always super fresh, which is not always the case with poke spots. And the portion size is great - not sure why others are complaining about that. I came here on grand opening day and surprisingly it was 40% off! Even though the line was long, it moved fairly quickly. I got two custom bowls, kids crab bowl and hand rolls to go. The staff are friendly and quick to prepare your order. The preparation station was clean and the fish and sides were constantly replenished when they were running low. I was nervous when I stood in line that they would run out of the fish I wanted since I came at dinner time, but they had everything stocked and prepped! I'm glad they were prepared for the crowds. The ambiance is bright and there are a few tables for customers to dine in but I decided to take my bowls home to eat. The custom bowls were fresh and the hand rolls were super tasty. The wait is finally over! We happened to walk by when they had their grand opening and there was a decent line out the door around 4pm. Ordering your food is like an assembly line where you start with a base and then move on to the next person to place your toppings and sauces. It's pretty streamlined and efficient. The restaurant was really clean and organized! We got the Large BYO which comes with 4 scoops of protein and we chose the miso spicy salmon and the oyster tuna. It's nice that each bowl comes with a free scoop of crab salad. The salmon was light in taste, I didn't taste any spice but I don't mind that, but the garlic oyster tuna was delicious! We also ordered 3 hand rolls: the salmon, spicy tuna, and California. They were all good and fresh but needed a little extra seasoning so I drizzled some soy sauce and it was chefs kiss. Would I order the hand rolls again? Definitely -- the size alone is worth it. We had to wait a bit for our hand rolls after we paid and the owner noticed and would check in on us and our order frequently and would make little conversations and even hand delivered us our order when it was ready. He was so sweet and we appreciate the attentiveness from him. All of the other staff were also amazing! 5/5 would recommend coming here and giving it a try! The new Poke House at South Shore Center is pretty darn good! We got the Tuna Lover and the House Salmon. They were both delicious. The crab salad--which comes standard but I nearly passed on because most crab salad is a waste of time--turned out to be delicious and thankfully not drenched in mayonnaise. The tuna itself was fresh and flavorful. The "very spicy" sauce was actually mid-level spice. The staff was still getting the kinks out, but they were kind enough. I'm giving 4 stars rather than 5 because the packaging plastic wasn't biodegradable. read more

This is my go to spot for Poke in Alameda, CA. There's plenty of parking in the lot in front. It is small on the inside with a few tables but there's plenty of seating outside. My favorite items to order here are the Garlic Oyster Tuna and Spicy Spicy Tuna for the Large bowl option. Adding in Sushi Rice as the base. Mix-Ins with Purple Cabbage, Sweet Onion, Corn, Edamame, and Green Onion. For sauces I went with just two - Sriracha Aioli and House Shoyu. And finally topping it off with Crispy Onions, Nori Strips, Pickled Ginger, and Sesame Seeds. It was a packed bowl. I'd say the proportions are a little off because they give so much rice compared to fish and toppings but the flavor was there. Unfortunately, there is an additional $2-$2.50 charge for avocado and seaweed salad. This was unusual to me as I've never been charged extra for those toppings at other poke places so I was disappointed by that. The poke's good but I'm not sure the value's there since the bowl wasn't as big as we had hoped too. They were generous only with the rice but the fish scoops were small. After ordering, we wanted to sit inside and eat but the dining area has about 4 small tables so we couldn't get a seat. We decided to go to Starbucks and eat there.
