I don't how I did it, but, I got my non-raw fish eating wife and daughter to to eat poke. Poki Ave has been the places that satisfies them so far. They are just like all the other Poke places that have popped up with a few minor differences in their offering. Like all other places, you pick your base of white rice, brown rice or salad. Then you have a choice of imitation crab, spicy imitation crab, seaweed, tomatoes, cilantro, edamame, jalapenos, pineapple, and a couple others to add to your bowl. Then you pick your proteins. This is where Poki Ave does better than other places for non-raw fish eating people. They have cooked shrimp and octopus. They also have your regular salmon, tuna, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and albacore. They have a multitude of sauces that your proteins can be mixed in. I always get their standard soy sauce and sesame oil. Lastly, you pick your toppings of nori, furikake, masago, or one of the many usual toppings that everyone else has. Their regular bowl is pretty good sized. Flavoring is pretty good. Good enough so that I don't have to add extra soy sauce. My wife and daughter like it. The only minor complaint is that they do not provide extra bowls for you to share food. My wife likes to order a large, so that she can share it with the daughter who doesn't much. Their bowl that they gave us is a small cardboard miso bowl. The growing daughter needs a bigger bowl. Service is good. The servers were patient with my wife who has never stood in line at an assembly line poke joint. Complimentary green tea ice cream if you eat there. 4 stars only because this is one of the few places that I can eat Poke with my wife and daughter, otherwise, I would only give them 3 stars. read more

So, my son told me that he loved poke. I had know idea what it was until a few weeks back. I was at another store and overheard the lady working at Poke Ave having a conversation with someone. She was so passionate about explaining why that person should try it. Yesterday, I tried it. WOW, delicious doesn't quite accurately describe how it tasted. Regret to say that my sisters and I came 30 minutes to closing (never wanted to be THAT customer..!) but nonetheless the service was amazing! Like other reviews have stated, the portions are LARGE. I rarely give out 5 stars unless I really think the business is superb in all aspects. This place really deserves it in my opinion. The food was honestly really great compared to the price and I love how customizable this place is. The other places I usually go for poki have a set menu, so I loved how personal you can make your own bowl here. The service was good here also. All the employees were very friendly even with a lot of people in the small restaurant. I just wish they had more seats because I had to be wait a while to find seats for my friend and I. At the end of our meal, one of the employees have both of us green tea ice cream which was really nice. Poke Ave is a poke place in a strip mall. It's located between Cartridge World and Dog Boutique and Spa. Their smallest size comes in a burrito which consists of white rice, seaweed wrap, and two scoops of your choice of fish. The bowl sizes include regular (three scoops) and large (five scoops). They have 3 bases (white rice, brown rice, salad). You can also combine rice and salad. They have 8 choices of fish including salmon, spicy salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, cooked shrimp, albacore, yellowtail, and octopus. They have 15 toppings including avocado, crab meat, seaweed salad, cucumber, green onions, ginger, tomatoes, pineapple, edamame, jalapeno, cilantro, furikake, nori, wasabi, and masago. There's 9 sauces including ponzu, sesame oil, loco 1, loco 2, loca, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, lemon creamy, and eel sauce. The food items that I saw here that I haven't seen at other poke places were spicy salmon, spicy crab meat, pineapple, edamame, and tomatoes. I usually get salmon as my choice of fish. The fish scoops are rather small and the fish cuts are also small. The salmon is very fresh. The spicy crab meat is definitely spicy. The regular crab meat is good as it had the right amount of mayo. The ponzu sauce and sesame oil combined is savory. The spicy mayo is creamy. The white rice is slightly cold and chewy which suits the poke perfectly. They use certified compostable boxes as containers for the poke. The downside is that some of the rice bits would stick to the container. There have been some visits where the music was overwhelmingly loud. Whatever acoustics they have in the building caused the music to amplify even more and echo all over the place. As a result, there would be some kind of miscommunication. For example, I said I didn't want onions but it was still added on and for another visit I wanted the spicy mayo mixed in but it ended up being added afterwards. They didn't have any loud-omg-I-can't-hear-anything-else-but-the-music for the previous visits but then again no one else was there. Aside from minor miscommunication, service has been pretty good. For all visits, I was greeted upon entry. All of the servers I've encountered thus far were friendly. The servers usually offer me extra crab meat since I don't really get any other toppings. The restaurant was very well-ventilated. I didn't smell any fish at all in the restaurant. The seating area indoors is a bit small. There's also some tables outside. Overall, pretty good poke. The salmon was fresh, the sauces were flavorful, and the rice texture was great. Will be back for more visits. read more

Another poke place opened up in Brea! They were giving away free 3 scoop poke bowls during their soft opening... How can I say no to free poke bowls...? Got there around 1pm, waited in line for about 40 min. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but didn't really explain much about how to order other than just handing out free food. A banana head like me of course asked all the questions and wasn't very satisfied with the answer I got. 1. Extra scoop of topping is $0.50, so how many toppings come with a regular order? I was told the first round I can order anything everything for no extra charge. I was a little confused because what if on the first round, I want 3 scoops of tomato? Do I get charged for $1 for it? (not to mention, who put tomato on poke anyway... Vomit) 2. Extra scoop of fish is $0.99. Now let's see here, 3 scoop is $8.99, 5 scoop is $11.99. I was told the size of the container doesn't change, the only difference is the amount of the scoops. Tell me my math is bad. 5 scoops = 3 scoop order + 2 extra scoops = 8.99 + 2 = 10.99, which is still cheaper than 11.99 as listed. Curiousty kills cats for sure. Overall, some concerns I have. The order line doesn't have any glass/plastic wall in between the food and the customer, which means, my saliva is now in your food as you read my review. It's OK, I was also having the pretty lady's saliva ahead of me. The scoop also looked mini to me. The fish chunk was cut pretty small already and even with that, I barely saw much fish in my bowl. I couldn't tell you how fresh the fish were, but I had this raw fish taste in my mouth for the remaining afternoon, no water was able to wash it off. Lastly, there was a bone in my fish that decided to poke through my skin inside my mouth as I chewed. I know, small bites for small portion, silly me for not paying attention and totally my fault. I could only hope all this happened because it was during soft opening. Without much poke options in the area, I might go... Even though this place has really high ratings, I tried not to have any expectations. Especially since there's poke places here and there. Plus, I've had poke in Hawaii (it's not supposed to be Chipotle-style). None the less, I give this place 4.5 stars for at least satisfying my cravings. First, the ingredients are fresh! From the veggies you add to your poke bowl to the fish. They even have spicy crab which most places do not have. It was actually pretty good too! There's a lot more toppings that I haven't seen around like edamame, pineapple, etc. When choosing a sauce, I tried to order spicy mayo but the guy making my poke bowl made a suggestion to add ponzu and sesame oil then to drizzle the spicy mayo on top. I allowed it and I'm glad because it was just perfect! It wasn't overly saucy and it was light enough. In terms of portions, I thought it was fine for me but it could be a little less compared to other places. At the end of the meal, we got complimentary green tea ice cream. Yumm! Checked out this Poke Joint before heading to the movies with some pals. One of the criterias I look for in a poke place is the freshness of their raw salmon meat. It starts out like any other poke places where you have a line to order your food step by step. They have a decent selection of food ingredients but their prices are a little more expensive than most poke places I've tried. Unlike most poke places with 3 serving size selections, this place only have 2. They serve a regular $10 for 3 scoops or a large $13 for 5 scoops. I usually order a regular so it didn't bother me but it did affect my friend who was hoping to get a smaller serving size since the regular size could be very filling. I am glad to say the salmon did not disappoint. I was really pleased with it and the other selections I had (spicy tuna & Scallop) were good too. What made it better was their complimentary miso soup with every bowl that we ordered. It was such a good pairing with my poke meal. The only unfortunate thing I could think about here was that they do not serve Yellow Tail. Yellow tail is my typical choice for poke but this place didn't offer any. First time eating Poke..this place surely did not disappoint! I paid about $9.25 for my bowl and was pretty filling. Everything was fresh, people working here are very friendly and helpful. You can choose up to 3 fish with the regular bowl. I had Tuna, shrimp and salmon with brown rice. Also had all the toppings except for avocado, ginger and jalapeño.
