This place isn't bad, per se. But the combination of being the most expensive poke restaurant I've ever been to (for the portion you receive) with the most mediocre quality food is why I'm giving it two stars. The fish doesn't taste bad. It tasted like it was fresh, but it was weird because it was flavorless. Another reviewer wrote that she left Poke Dot craving sushi & sashimi. That's exactly how I felt. The salmon was the most flavorless salmon -- without tasting bad -- that i've ever had. But if I were in a pinch, really craving poke or something, poke dot's salmon drenched in sauce and shrouded with rice would make do. Sometimes when eating out, it makes economic sense to upgrade your entree to a large. But at Poke Dot, it absolutely never makes any sense to upgrade to a large because the only difference is that you pay more for the same amount of food. In the tips section, I included a picture of the portion size for the large bowl I paid ~$13 for. Unless their medium is actually $9 for something even smaller than the portion size pictured, then a large is just the same size as a medium except you have to pay more for it. I came here on Friday night around 8pm. I had to pick up some friends at the airport and I was really early, so I figured I may as well check this place out. After all, I sure do love poke bowls! It wasn't busy at all, but then again its in a business center and it was a Friday night. I got a regular bowl with white rice, and I picked out spicy tuna, shrimp, and scallops. I decided to eat it there, and I took a few bites and it was pretty good! It was so tasty that I took out my phone to take a picture. But then... ...I bit into something really hard. I thought my tooth broke or something. I managed to take out what looks like a piece of a shell from my mouth. Ugh. I was still chewing but there were still fragments so I got up and discreetly spit up in a napkin. I examined this piece of shell for while but decided to bring it up to the staff's attention. They were by the register getting a lesson on I think counterfeit money. There was one guy not wearing a uniform so I assume he was the owner. I said "excuse me, but what is this?" and I held out the piece of shell. This guy asked if I got any tuna on my bowl and I said that yes, i got spicy tuna. His response was "Oh, it must be the sinew from when we scrape the tuna. Don't worry it's nothing bad." A few things: - Sinew is not a shell. - Sinew is like a tissue on a fish. - A piece of shell could easily be a choking hazard. - You're scraping tuna from shells or what? So, I highly doubt I'll be back. I took the rest of the bowl to go but threw it away because I have NEVER encountered broke pieces of shells in a poke bowl before. I LOVE POKE DOT. Let me start by saying that! I've never been disappointed and I've gone there for lunch/dinner more than 10x. It's my go-to Poke location now, I've recommended others to come here as well. The services is always great, every single person that works there actually enjoy their job even after the day after day lunch rush. The biggest thing is they do NOT skimp out on the protein to these tiny scoops. That's one thing I love about Poke Dot is the protein portions are perfect. Thank you Poke Dot! I literally have been here for than thirty times now. It's my favorite poke place due to the fact that they are generous with their portions. It was definitely worth the wait. I got a regular sized bowl with double salmon and albacore (seasonal protein), cucumbers, masago, seaweed, tempura, spicy sauce and sesame oil. And yet another poke place has opened up, and I was excited to try it! [ORDERING] I was eager to try this place out because the wraps looked incredibly good! I came here on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded and there was no line surprisingly. The concept is the same as any other poke place, choose your size (large = 5 scoops, regular = 3 scoops, small = 2 scoops, or a wrap, which is the same price as the regular). You then choose your base (salad, chips, white/brown), choose your sides (cilantro, cucumber, onion, crab meat, and avocado (none of these cost extra), and then choose your protein! (shrimp, tuna, salmon, yellow tail, octopus, scallop). Then you pick your sauces and toppings and you're good to go. [FOOD] I got a regular bowl with brown rice, two scoops of salmon, and one scoop of tuna. There was a plethora of sauces when I arrived at the seasoning and sauce station, but I chose the house sauce (spicy), and the spicy mayo. I didn't really like the spicy mayo as much as I did at Pokinometry. I was slightly disappointed in the scoops of salmon and tuna I got. The person making my bowl didn't fill the whole scooper up, and the scoops aren't that big. I work nearby and decided to come for a late lunch/early dinner so reported lines were not a problem For those who are new to poke, it's basically sashimi in a bowl of rice or salad (or half and half) and a whole bunch of fresh and healthy toppings. I opted for a large bowl with half brown rice and half salad. My protein choice was double salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp and scallops. I added every mix and topping including crab and avacado along with cilantro twist and volcano sauce. I did, however, pass on the spicy Cheetos. The staff were all friendly, kind and patient with me as a poke newbe. I enjoyed my meal and, since I work nearby, will likely return. read more

Onto another poke place for me. I left work late and I didn't know where else to eat or what's open. This place was close to work and it was healthy, so I went for it. I love poke, so it couldn't go wrong! I was a bit frazzled when I went in because I was rushing to go home. The process was pretty easy, but because it was my first time I was all over the place. You get 4 choices to choose from for you base, I made mine a poke salad. I got the 5 scoops because I thought I was hungry, which I was but it ended up to be too much for me. They give you a side of crab salad and I had ask for avocado, but not sure if they charged me for it. Most likely they did. Overall it was an easy process, just like subway or chipotle, point at what you want and what you don't want. The price is reasonable as well. I think this place is the best so far, since I've been to several poke places since I moved back. They have a few types of sauces like any other places, but the guy said I could mix it. I would have given them a higher rating but the people who served me this evening weren't the most friendliest.. I'm on a mission to try every poke place in Orange County and I can say that out of all the places I've tried poke dot is one of the best for its value. It's not the best tasting I've tried but for 10 bucks you get more food than almost any poke place I've been to and it's still tastes good and is good quality. Also one of the better ones in Irvine. Yes the line is insanely long, but that just means that people like it and you could always call in and order before hand and pick it up. I wouldn't recommend the spicy tuna but I do like the yellow tail there and the regular tuna and salmon. Almost all the toppings are included and I easily get full off a regular. This place sucks I go here every day for lunch kind you about 15$ per day. Not anymore. I made a mistake on my online order and asked for it to be changed I would pay no worries. They sent me to grub hub and then after me pointing out it could not be done someone else says no you have to do it through post mated and basically they spent my entire lunch being dumbfounded. Poke shops have been popping out everywhere it seems. I do love a good Poke spot so I decided to give this place a shot. The one thing they got going for them is the variety. They have way more options for toppings than your original places like "Pokinometry" but I feel the quality of the fish is lacking or maybe simply gets lost in all of the toppings. The portions for the bowls are pretty impressive here with a reasonable/ standard price. Friendly staff but lunch did take a while due to lines. The lunch rush here gets really hectic because this place is near so many businesses. I think this place has really good poke, just like all the other poke places popping up this place has a wide selection of toppings and fish, but this place is pretty generous with their amounts. And they don't give you so much rice that the toppings are spilling out of the bowl when you're trying to mix it together. Maybe it's just the other poke places I've gone, but generally they give out a lot of rice and not that much fish. In any case, this place is pretty cheap, is generally fast (even if the line seems long) and tastes great. The concept of Poke Dot is basically poke meets Chipotle. It's a great lunch spot, but if you arrive after 11am be prepared to wait in line for about 30 minutes (which is pretty good considering how long the line gets). I've seen some pretty rude people jumping line, but it tends to be the exception. The quality of the fish is pretty good and I like the variety of toppings (cucumbers, avocado, crab meat, etc), sauces and extras (ginger, masago, jalapeños, etc.). Not the best poke ever IMO, but it's a great lunch option because of the amount of customization you can do. I was starving after work and decided to give Poke Dot a try. I chose to go with three scoops of white rice which is the regular bowl. They have a decent selection of sides; I asked the server to top my bowl with chunks of cucumber/avocado, leaves of cilantro, and shreds of imitation crab meat. Now here comes the good part, the actual protein. I topped the rice and sides with some thick chunks of tuna, scallops, yellowtail, shrimp, and octopus. The seafood was fairly fresh in quality. The yellowtail was the seasonal fish and star of the show; it really stood out with its citrusy ponzu sauce layering. I went easy on the toppings, adding some simple green onion for a pungent flavor as well as masago on top of the leafy salad greens (capelin roe). The spicy mayo was good, not too spicy or sweet. Overall, pretty fair price considering it's close to price you'd pay for a bowl at Chipotle. I'm going to have to try their albacore next time since I forgot. 3.75 out of 5 for me. read more

I didn't get to write my review for Poke Dot earlier today, so I'm doing it now. Came to eat here for the first time with my coworker for lunch today and I fell in love with this place. I will say that if you are planning to have lunch here, come early around 11 am. We arrived at about 11:20 am and the line was out the door. Here's what you get! For a regular bowl $8.75 you can choose 3 scoops of protein and for a large bowl at $10.75 you can choose 5 scoops of protein. That's an awesome deal! I've been to other poke joints where they charge up to $13 bucks for a regular bowl and only 2 scoops of protein. Also, Avocado is included with your bowl and not an extra. The fish is fresh and the portions were pretty big. For your base you can choose from salad, brown rice, white rice or chips. Toppings you get to choose cucumber, onions, avocado, cilantro, or crab meat. Protein choices are Salmon, Albacore, Shrimp, Tuna, Spicy Tuna, Octopus, and Yellow Tail, I believe. I can't remember the rest of the toppings or sauces, sorry folks. All I know is that I love this place and I will be coming back for sure! read more
