High quality for the price, large portions, and friendly staff. It's hard to go wrong with poke, and the ingredients are very good ones, but the food has some issues. The minor issue is that I found the fish pieces to be a little bit too large to chew comfortably. The real problem is that raw fish is inherently bland, so the sauce and seasoning need to do the heavy lifting of either enhancing its flavor or compensating with strong flavors of its own. Neither the seasoning of the sushi rice (was it seasoned?) nor the wasabi mayo could quite pull it off. It's hard for me to give this place three stars since the fish really was excellent, and butchered exceptionally well, better than many sushi places'. Tried PokeDoke for 1st time last night, it was amazing, no place like it in StL. I don't write many yelp reviews, only in extreme good or bad scenarios, and this was extreme good. Good choice of bases (I did half greens half sobe noodles) and protein (ahi tuna excellent, octopus good, salmon average), with MANY different drizzles and flavoring options (seaweed salad excellent, crab excellent, I also sampled other yummy flavors like eel sauce, gojuguang, ginger, chili oili, kimchi) Definitely will return and definitely recommend everyone check it out. read more

My go to order is spicy tuna on a bed of white rice topped with edamame, imitation crab, fried onions, cucumbers, white onion, soy sauce and spicy mayo. The bowl is refreshing and literally always hits the spot. I've only ever gone in one time because I was in the immediate area, and the girls behind the counter were less than enthused to have a customer. I was sooo happy when a poke place finally opened in St. Louis. I've now eaten here at least a dozen times (because I get regular poke cravings). I'd say that overall the poke is pretty good. I usually get a regular, with a mix of brown rice and salad as a base, because they will fill 2/3 of the bowl with rice otherwise. The fish is good enough and I feel like three scoops is plenty filling. What really bothers me is that they can be really stingy with their toppings - though this seems to only be certain employees. If I'm paying $13 for my bowl, I would really appreciate a little more than a teaspoon-size serving of seaweed salad and edamame (not exaggerating). I understand they're probably trying to keep their costs own, but I would like this place so much more if they would stay consistent and slightly more generous with the toppings. read more

I usually get the salmon and the ahi tuna with white rice, seaweed salad, crab meat and masago topped with spicy mayo + eel sauce. Update: Were going to try the medium, but they raised their price to $10/small, $12/regular??? Update 2: Got a regular with spicy tuna. This time I actually had a lot of fish left over (and they were willing to give me a scoop of rice to help me eat it). I suspect the first time I went I was only given one of my two scoops. Regular size was enough to fill me. Awesome to see a poke place! Would give it like a 3.5, because not enough food for the price and their fish to rice ratio was unsatisfying. I may have only received one scoop of fish though... Environment: clean, good menu, and well-staffed so far. Choose your options at the counter style. Size: smaller than I was expecting. $8 for a small: like a cup and a half of rice or noodles and maybe 1.5-2 tablespoons of fish. Just seeing them scoop the fish with their tiny scoop is depressing, even if you get a decent amount of fish in the end. At least the toppings were plentiful. They fill about 2/3 their bowl size, which makes it easy to stir but sad to eat. Still kinda hungry after their small; think you need to order a medium at least for $10. Taste: yum! things taste good, nice and flavorful, and their spicy tuna had a pleasant afterburn. Can't say anything about the freshness of the fish because only ordered spicy tuna and shrimp. They also have tofu. Base poke sauce is a sweet soy. A tad oversauced for my soba noodles but about right for the rice. Options: Good selection of carbs, fish, and especially toppings and sauces. Toppings include fried onions (crunch!), mango, pineapple, crab (for more meat), fish eggs (masago), seaweed salad (yum), and avocado for extra $. One of my fave places to stop for lunch in the CWE. They have a good selection of protein and vegetable toppings, and I like that you can choose from rice, soba noodles, or salad. All toppings and protein are always fresh and flavorful, and their sauces are all great! I am not a huge fan of the rice and fish scene. Don't get me wrong, it's okay but I have never understood the passion. Keeping my promise to not review within 48 hours of a visit, I have given this some thought, over the last few days. I stopped in the first week they opened. It was clean and the staff were nice. They were pretty well prepared and reacted pretty well to my indecision and ignorance. If you like the SoCal stuff, then this will be a bit different for you and maybe not as familiar but I found it to be more "Hawaiian" and therefore more authentic and not "Americanized" as much... the rice was starchy, which shows it was not over processed. The fish was very fresh. I only did lunch there (twice), so I did not see shortfalls in inventory that some of the other people have mentioned but I am thinking that since this place is new, they are still getting a feel for how quickly the types of their product move. I think I would rather eat at a fish restaurant that runs out of things, rather than seeing them try to stretch the meats out for another two or three days. If I were in Kona, I might give this place a 4... you just can't beat the freshness and of course being in the Islands but the quality is excellent and I was pleasantly surprised. I might also be a little generous with my review after reading other reviews that seemed to "low-ball" their ratings over things that are not exactly specified. Bottom line, it is a solid 4 or 5.
