Generally when I order the large poke bowl option from any place, I'll be very full, if I even finish it. When I came here I was left wanting more, almost like it was the medium size bowl of any other spot. If they were to give bigger portions when scooping or 5 scoops on the large size then this would probably be the ideal poke spot for me. read more

Ingredients were very fresh from what I could tell, and there were a lot of toppings to choose from. Personally this is the first poke place I've been to that has mango as a topping. The service was good, I went early and didn't have to wait in line, just got straight to ordering. I also think it was clean and refreshing inside, not too cold or hot and they make good use of the small space. As for what I disliked, for three proteins or a large bowl, it is around $18, which for me seems like a little too much to spend on poke, especially since they only have a couple protein options. As an avid poke LOVER I've given multiple chances but every time I come they've become stingier and stingier with everything. Like they're literally using a teaspoon to scoop the toppings, and if you ask for extra they charge you. It's honestly comical at this point. First time at the brea location and the staff was so loud in the kitchen making random noises like singing and beatboxing that I couldn't hear the owner asking me questions while trying to put together the bowl. So I kept having to repeat myself. I thought the owner would at least tell them to calm down but they never did. It does seem weird to separate the toppings and to correct the customer you can't get the other toppings for the bowl until the fish is mixed. The customers after me thought the same thing too. That was... weird. We were the only ones in line, not busy at all, server Chloe didn't greet us when we walked in. She took an abnormally long time putting on her gloves. We started our order and asked if we could get jalapeños on the side (normal request imo). Chloe lets out a dramatic sigh and plops them aside and says "Anything else?" with so much attitude in her voice. We got to the sauce part and asked for Hawaiian salt sauce. Another sigh."Anything else?" looking visibly annoyed lol. We asked for Ponzu on the side. This is when she lets out the BIGGEST SIGH YET, puts her chin down to her chest... stops everything she's doing and freezes for a moment... then threw her head back, widened her eyes and SCOFFS at us, like... really?!? We asked for ONE topping and TWO sauces on the side. Relax... While I was ordering there were 2 times she couldn't hear me. Instead of politely asking me to repeat myself, she just gave me this wide eye, raised eyebrow, chin poking out look. I was confused why she was making this weird face at me and realized it's because she couldn't hear me... like just USE YOUR WORDS LIKE AN ADULT and ask me to repeat myself, stop making that weird face... Meanwhile there was a tiny line starting to build of maybe 4 people, and all of a sudden 3 extra staff magically appeared from the back to help. so clearly they weren't understaffed either. Then we asked about the garlic spam musubi promo we saw on the Pokeworks app. She says it'll take about 10 minutes. That's fine by us. Then another girl (manager? lead? named Marionn) comes out and says, "Oh you ordered the garlic musubi? Yeah that's gonna take a while... like 15 minutes." with this tone like they all reeeeally didn't wanna make it. Again we were cool with the wait and didn't mind at all. But the whole vibe was like we were inconveniencing them by... ordering something they advertise?? Oh and the funniest part is that Chloe had a pin that said "Positivity" on her shirt which was ironic... Food wise it was fine... the fish tasted like it was saturated in too much salt water though. Rice was fine, toppings were decent. The masago was a tiny scoop for 50 cents extra which I didn't mind paying more for but the portion/quality didn't match. Garlic musubi was way too garlicky, the garlic aftertaste on it lingers for a long time. Overall weird experience. Next time you're in this plaza just go to Cava. At least they don't scoff in your face for ordering food that they're literally paid to make. read more

Customer service brought us back! Don't get me wrong, the poke and hot plates were phenomenal but the service was another level! We went back twice in one week span for these reasons. First day we went we were greeted as soon as we walked in and encouraged to ask any questions. I got build a bowl with two proteins and my husband the chicken hot plate. The poke was fresh and portions were spot on. I consider myself a macaroni salad connoisseur and theirs had my mouth watering. So delicious! Both times we were served by the owners, who are husband and wife, and they both are the most inviting people, which made for a great dine in experience each time. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very clean, and can accommodate small or large groups. We thank your team for showing us such great hospitality and we will be visiting often! First time trying Pokeworks, and the food was pretty good (it's hard to go wrong with poke unless it's REALLY that bad imo). I got a medium with salmon and spicy salmon, and my husband got a large with salmon, shrimp, and lobster - the portions were filling but not overfilling, so it was good for a nice weekend lunch date. We came in on Sunday around 12:30, wasn't too crazy busy but Nick (owner) was super friendly and outgoing, and Marion (owner) was also nice and gave us a good amount of fish. I feel like as a franchise, the two owners are really putting in the work and you can tell they are passionate about running their business, which makes me feel like they really care about providing good service. I used to work at a poke spot, so I understand standard portions for protein, but this place was very stingy overall, especially with the veggies. I get that fish is expensive, but if you're going to skimp on protein, they definitely should give more veggies to balance it out. On top of that, the fish didn't taste fresh at all, which was disappointing. It's hard to justify spending around $40 for a bowl that felt both small and low quality. I love this poke store, and for a few reasons. It's probably the freshest poke selection I've seen so far in Brea. The proteins are all excellent and I appreciate that they have a lobster option. That and the tuna are really good. Along with that, there's a variety of toppings and add-ons that you can supplement your bowl with, and most of them are complimentary. The prices are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I usually share a large bowl with my family member and I haven't had a bad experience here yet- I've been here for about 6 months at least once a week at that. They're constantly in my takeout rotation because the food is healthy and affordable. The staff is all really friendly and I've had many conversations with the owner. More than anything, I hope Pokeworks can stay in Brea longterm because I'm a committed customer. There are plenty of poke places in Orange County, and I wouldn't recommend this one unless it's your only option. The food portions were small for the price, and I even found a salmon bone in my poke bowl -- almost swallowed it. The service was also disappointing, especially from a server whose name started with "M" (around 1:10-1:30 PM on Sunday, 10/5). The overall environment and vibe were fine, but nothing made up for the poor food quality and service. I definitely won't be recommending this place to any of my friends in the Brea area. read more

With the amount I paid for 2 - 2 protein bowls, it wasn't worth it. For $42, I had a good 6 bites. Wasn't worth finishing...... This spot is SO good. Tried the spicy salmon and tuna (charred)--game changer. Super flavorful and fresh. The dynamite shrimp plate also was amazing--crispy, flavorful, and just really well done. Also, two important add-ons that are MUST HAVES: the mac salad, surprisingly light and refreshing. Not too heavy or overly creamy like a lot of others I've had. And, their chili crisp. They make it in-house and it's sooo good! It was super busy when I went, but the staff was still really kind and attentive. Decided to try this place as my normal poke place is 15 minutes from my house and I wanted to try a closer place. I'm glad I did! It was fresh and delicious. It was a bit more pricey than the place I usually go, but the food was worth it. The staff were very kind and walked me through ordering. The only thing I would change--the poke rice is hot when they put it in your bowl, I prefer mine to be cold (although it didn't heat up the fish so that's good!).
