Abysmal quality of food. My wife and I are new to the OC area and saw the great reviews this place had and were excited to try it. We both ordered very simple bowls with Salmon, brown rice, cilantro, edamame, pineapple, and a side of the medium Sriracha Aioli. We got home, opened the bowls, and were immediately met with a foul odor that quickly filled up the room. The food looked really unappetizing and we noticed they also put white rice instead of brown for both bowls, but remembering the positives reviews, decided to give it a shot. Took 1 bite and immediately lost all appetite. The salmon was extremely bland while also being a strangely warm temperature, and the stench kept overpowering us. I want to hope this was a one off bad experience, but the fish genuinely looked, smelled, and tasted unsafe to eat. Immediately disposed it and I am still dealing with the lingering, putrid smell. Man this Pokeworks is GOATED. I was in Newport beach hungry and tired and just came from eating Prince Street Pizza. I was walking around the area and stumbled across Pokeworks with their bright sign that caught my attention. Even though I ate two pizzas already, I got a large bowl and man it healed my soul. This was my second visit to Pokeworks (first time was an yelp elite event right after they opened) and both visits have been great! I once again ordered the sweet sesame chicken bowl, though I slightly modified a couple items. It's $~16 for a regular sized bowl, but both times I've been able to make two meals out of them (if you're really hungry, though, it's not that big). Both of my dining companions built their own bowls and loved them. We also got a garlic spam musubi, and enjoyed that as well. The staff is always patient while deciding on what to order. All three of us ended up needing more sauce on our bowls once we tried them, and they had no problem giving us all little containers of extra sauce. There are plenty of tables and chairs inside, as well as a couple outside. The interior is fairly echo-y and the ambience is nothing to write home about, but it wasn't a problem for us. Clean bright shop in a nice plaza. Personally my husband and I didn't love it but it wasn't the worst poke we've ever had either. We've just had better poke at several other places compared to Pokeworks so this isn't my first choice for poke. The amount of food isn't worth it to us and there wasn't anything special about it to us. I could tell the person serving us was new cause he kept looking to see what was in our orders, but service was nice. I don't think I'd come back. read more

Pokeworks recently opened up in this plaza and I'm so happy! The new store is clean, the staff members are super friendly, and the quality remains the same. I love that this location offers a new protein choice, lobster, very on brand for Newport! The only downside is that this location does not have seaweed salad which was one of my favorite topping items. Fresh fish with fast service~ Highly recommend giving this place a shot for poke cravings. Poke works is located in a large plaza in Costa Mesa/Newport border. The interior is small with few table and outdoor seating. You can build your own bowl or pick from pre selected signature bowls. I got a small bowl with lobster/salmon with the gochujang sauce. For the base I got brown rice (can choose between greens, white rice, brown rice, and noodles ($1))) Portions are generous on the fish, they have various topping choices like edamame, hijiki, pineapple, cucumber, and many more. You can also customize the amount of sauce, medium was perfect for me. It cost extra if you add avocado or masago. My bf got the bowl with ramen noodles and noodles were surprisingly good quality for a poke place! Make sure to check in to get a complimentary garlic spam musubi. Musubi had lots of flavor with good level of garlic, rice was well cooked too. The small bowl cost around $15 with tax, not a bad deal for a healthy and filing meal. I was unsure what to order when I went in and the employees were so helpful! I asked their personal recommendation and it was AMAZING! They were all so nice and helpful throughout the entire ordering process. I got the lobster and white rice as my base and added the employees recommendations for the toppings and it was delicious! A great introduction to fresh and make-your-own poke! Right at the crest between Costa Mesa and Newport among other reputable establishments! Yums Me and my fellow Yelp partner had the opportunity to try the Yuzu Ponzu Salmon as well as the Umami Ahi. To say the least, the lean-to-fat ratio on these fish were adequate but, I would've liked more flavor which was surprising considering how saucy the food was especially soaking into the other ingredients like the rice, vegetables and fish itself. The crabmeat, seaweed salad, ginger and other add-ons were generous! That doesn't go to show that this place would be a perfect place to introduce poke to someone who hasn't tried it as the fish was fresh to par and there's customizations for anyone's liking. Easy Convenience Parking was no problem as this plaza has an easy in-out traffic and the shop is easy to find thanks to their bright logo and restaurant setting! Ordered 3 bowls for pick up, but two of the bowls had zero sauce and were missing seaweed salad, surimi salad, and masago which we paid extra for. Needless to say, it was very bland and dry.
