Wow. Just wow. From the beginning. Today I was feeling a bit low on life ie things aren't really working my way etc and went for getting something and couldn't find it so feeling not great. Then I decide to have dinner some where, Mexican went there, today's special Pork. I don't eat pork. Felling more let down. Then I search this place opposite, Peruvian food. Hmm never tried Peruvian. I put all South America under the same food ie burritos etc. prices not bad, ok I'll have that sandwich please. While I was waiting a guy with his son smiled at me as a friendly thing you would do in a Peruvian naibourhood. I obviously smiled back. Food came and I took it next to the window coz I just wanted to see no one and zone out for a while, not that it was crowded at all. I decided to have a bite first of the sandwich and then start my soup. I took a bite and Wow. I fell in love. It tasted like heaven. Wow. So well cooked, juicy, fresh, nice smokey, tasty. I was transported back to those times I had similar feelings, to Paris when I came out of subway and saw Eiffel Tower and when I first met my love an Estonian girl. This place is owned by the same people that run Pollo Inka . The first time I tried it I was not a fan. The chicken tasted like boiled hot dogs. My wife definetly did not like it. However, a couple of months ago, a friend of mine who is Peruvian, encouraged me to go there for lunch one day. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and let me tell you, it was awesome !! I like the option for a quick service Peruvian place that's closer to my office than any of the other sit-down Peruvian restaurants, and El Pollo Inka Express is that and more. I have only been through the drive-thru and haven't found it to be really any longer wait than most fast food restaurants as other reviewers have suggested. I went with the Tallarin Verde combo: roasted chicken leg/thigh quarter and spinach/cilantro/pesto sauce with spaghetti noddles. It came with a cup of soup, a roll, and plenty of their spicy green cilantro sauce. The chicken was juicy and seasoned great and the tallarin verde sauce was dressed generously on the spaghetti and tasted delicious. The combo was just $6.75 and the portion was good size. This spot is a delicious quick lunch that gives you more options that your run of the mill fast-food burger joint, and is very convenient. I will be returning again soon! read more

My wife came in to order our full family dinner and it was terrible. I blame this experience on the employees on duty bc we have been coming here for years now. Always great food and good service but today we spent around $100 on a family of 8. Soups broken inside bag bc of careless packaging . Their fire salsa was halved bc "it was free" says the cashier. So we ordered more "full container, full priced" salsas. Being talked down to, with windows being slammed in faces, after a hard day's work with a chunk of your order just thrown into bags nonchalantly half assed.. Eating here right now as I'm writing this review. Heard it's the same food as pollo inka, but cheaper. Once again, meh not so impressed. The tallarin verde is not al dente & not flavorful at all. Just imagine soggy bland noodles. The chicken was good tho. I also got the vainitas de pollo w/cilantro rice (extra $1). I loved the rice, but the chicken & green beans were real bland. They DO hook it up howevers.. and this is the cheapest peruvian food you could probably get. But I rather pay a little more & satisfy my tastebuds! Normally don't write too many reviews in terms of bad quality food, or service, but this time it was just unacceptable. If I could give no stars I truly would I've had issues ordering with a certain drive thru cashier multiple times. At first I thought "one mistake only? That's fine everyone makes mistakes!" Well I was wrong. One employee usually during 11-12PM, terrible attitude, not able to understand through speaker, also messed up my order on 5 different occasions some way or another. If I order my chicken with breast meat only (WHICH THEY CHARGE EXTRA FOR), I somehow end up with brown leg and thigh meat, not only that just recently I ordered 3 plates, only received two of them, called back multiple times, the manager on duty only offered me a credit for the same plate which keep in mind would've been my lunch for work, missing. Meaning that I would have had to waste my time, gas, and money just to be compensated when they were completely at fault, I also tried to leave comments on that cashier and the manager didn't really care (it seemed as they were trying to brush me off the phone). The most recent issue was with the food quality. My rice I ordered came out hard as if not enough water was used, white rice shouldn't be crunchy... beans I ordered smelled burnt, and tasted burnt as well, which every time I go back it just gets worse and worse.. way to win back a customer! So enough is enough. I am a regular customer, bringing more business to them especially when I spend my money and make bigger orders. I've never had issues here before these last 3 months, but after today I won't be going back, I'd rather take my business down the street to the actual restaurant. This is the drive thru/take out version of El Pollo Inka. My family has been coming to this chain of restaurants for quite literally years. This is one of the first places that comes to mind when I think of some of the best food in LA. If you've never tried it, try the saltado plates first. The chaufa plates are a good start too. This is more of a condensed version of the full service restaurant because they have more menu options. Why not five stars? Well to start, the place is called Pollo Inka "Express" but there's nothing "express" about it. I've waited over half an hour in that drive thru before and a lot of the time the line will go out into the street. It's not necessarily high volume but rather the speed of service is just very slow. I've experienced terrible customer service on multiple occasions but I'll tell you what, this really is some of the best food in LA! Absolutely love this place! Yes weekends tend to get busier and customers don't really always know what to order so that makes the lines even longer! But don't fret once place your order the food doesn't take to long to be ready and it always delicious. The family meal is the best deal $36 and some change and it's a full meal (2 liter Peruvian pineapple soda included). For us it feeds 5 adults and 2 kids. It's hearty! Definitely try to order online it's much quicker! My family and I come in all the time, we have yet to have a bad experience. The customer service it amazing they greet you with a smile (even if busy or tired), they take the time to explain dishes if need be and they are just awesome! I've had El Pollo Inka at least three times, but I haven't been back in over two years because I never understood what the big deal was about. I spontaneously decided to try Inka Express and revisit the Pollo Saltado. I remember that I didn't like the fact that the fries were limp and undercooked, so I asked for them well done. They came out normal. Overall, I liked the dish better than I remember. I only use the aji sauce a little if at all because I like the natural brown juice that comes from the outer layers of the chicken and is soaked up by the rice. So after my good experience I returned two weeks later and ordered the same thing. When I got home and opened up the box, and what do I find? Chicken fried rice! It was okay, but I didn't want a whole meal of rice, especially for seven dollars. It really irked me because the drive-thru line was moving extremely slow and then when I pulled up to the window the guy was busy taking orders at the counter and for the drive-thru and didn't even say, 'I'll be right with you" or "It'll be just a moment" or anything. He avoided eye contact and then gave me the wrong order. So I may lay off for awhile again, but I'll be back because you get decent food in large portions for reasonable prices. Not sure why this spot has such a low rating. I've been going here thoughout the years and the quality is still the same. This is the best Peruvian in west LA. My go-to's are the lomo saltado with beef (onions, tomatoes, fries and beef) and saltado de vainitas (green beans and roasted chicken). Ordered these 2 dishes during lunch time recently and the meat to veggie ratios were even and they didn't skimp on the meats. The beef isn't the highest quality cut but wasn't super dry. The chicken did have a pink glow but it was red meat so not sure if it was undercooked like some other recent reviews state but didn't have any stomach issues. The stir fry to rice ratio is also perfect. The flavoring for both dishes were on point and not too salty. The green soup is tasty and the rice in it is cooked down well. Would recommend asking for extra green sauce, you need about 3 for 2 dishes if you really enjoy the dishes with the green sauce. read more

I did not know this place existed until recently... a friend at work met me here for lunch during work. I was expecting the same Pollo Inka that you visit with table servers and menus... Instead it's their quick serve location that serves all of their most popular items off their full restaurant menus. They have a rotisserie oven that makes chicken too. I had the chaufa dish and it was massive. I think it was around $8? I had it for multiple meals leftover the next days. Great value and the flavors match what you eat at the restaurant. I've never eaten at the sit down regular Pollo Inka, but I heard this would do the trick. First of all, never do drive through. This was probably the slowest drive thru line I ever experienced. You may be better off ordering inside. I tried the basic and got the #1 with plantains and mixed vegetables. The chicken was great, super flavorful and comes off easily. The green sauce that comes with it is really good. Plantains were ok, they were a bit undercooked for me but the flavor was on point. As for the mixed vegetables...skip it. It seriously just tasted like those mixed vegetables in the frozen aisle: corn, peas, etc. All your meals come with a chicken soup and mine was eh and wasn't hot. read more

The soup was almost like it had gelatin like consistency and there was BARELY any chicken. You can get El Pollo Inka food without getting out of your car and the food taste just like you picked it up from the restaurant. That's worth 5 stars right there. I've been a loyal customer since this place opened, picking up takeout for lunch or dinner at least twice sometimes three times a week. For the past 2 years I've noticed a quality change. The rice is under cooked, it sometimes crunches. The meat and vegetables portions are getting smaller and smaller and the infamous green sauce appears to be watered down yet the prices keep going up. I usually only expect that kind of "value" at Asian restaurants (free tea and/or soup) in the San Gabriel Valley.
